Archaeologists Discovered Medieval Silver Communion Set and 70 Silver Coins in Hungary
A 14th-century silver communion set (chalice and wafer holder) and a treasure trove of 70 silver coins coins were discovered in a research project by the Hungarian National Archaeological Institute (Nemzeti Régészeti Intézet) near Lake Tisza.
The discovery was announced on the Institute’s Facebook page. In 2023, experts from the National Archaeological Institute of the Public Collection Centre of the Hungarian National Museum discovered the remains of a medieval Benedictine abbey founded by a clan during their microregional research near Lake Tisza, a unique cultural heritage.
The main purpose of the ten-year research plan of the National Archaeological Institute is to identify all the sites in the country within the framework of the “Archaeological Topography Programme”. To this end, micro-regional pilot projects have been launched, one of which can also provide the basis for developing tourism in the southeastern region of Lake Tisza based on its historical and cultural heritage.
In October 2023, in the village of Tomajmonostora, the remains of the former Benedictine abbey church were revealed during a trial excavation of the archaeological work carried out by archaeologists on the site of the former monastery.
“Last year the layers of the three-nave monastic basilica and the early round church were also clarified. So we have found the medieval Benedictine abbey and the church of the settlement that preceded it,” he said. Excavation leader Gábor Virágos, archaeologist, deputy director general of the Public Collection Centre of the Hungarian National Museum, and president of the National Archaeological Institute.
A special discovery made during this year’s excavation was a communion set that was in the deceased person’s hand at the time of burial. The ceremonial vessels are thought to be from the 13th or 14th century and include a wafer holder and a silver chalice. They were put into the hands of a deceased individual. Although more excavation is required to determine the precise findings, it is most likely a burial component.
The micro-regional research, including the excavation at Tomajmonostora, also produced other outstanding results. The National Archaeological Institute of the Public Collections Centre of the Hungarian National Museum also pays special attention to the sites of key, fate-transforming events in Hungarian history.
One of the milestones of this work is the identification of key sites of the battle of 1596 near Mezőkeresztes, and the collection and interpretation of artefactual material related to the battle. Here, archaeologists have found a treasure trove of 70 silver coins coins of the Viennese penny (denar). The hidden treasure, dating back to the 13th-14th centuries, was uncovered during a search by volunteers from the Community Archaeology Programme, led by archaeologist Gábor Bakos.
The Viennese denarii that make up the treasure were issued by the Austrian princes, contrary to their common summary name, not only from the Viennese mints but also from the Enns and Bécsujhely mints. Due to the intensive trade relations, their traffic also extended to the territory of the Kingdom of Hungary in the 1200s and 1300s.
“Their presence is attested by the presence of coins such as the one just discovered, mainly from the western part of the country and along the trade route through Kassia to Cracow. The latter includes the medal material found in the Mezőkeresztes area,” said Enikő Kovács, numismatist and research associate.
Research continues with the participation of volunteers and local people.

I wasn’t going to tell you, but I’m breaking the group up. It feels good. It feels like a divorce.
- John Lennon on quitting the Beatles, 20 Sept 1969.
Officially, the breakup of the Beatles never happened.
None of the Fab Four ever said they’d never work together again. In reality, though, the breakup took place on 10th April 1970, the day after Paul McCartney released a statement saying he didn’t miss the band and had no plans to record with John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.
The long and winding road to that point began several years earlier. The Beatles were originally Lennon’s band, but McCartney took an increasingly dominant role as time went on. Retrospectively, the scene is often depicted as a man standing up for something he loved while his bandmates failed to act the same way, for a variety of personal reasons (in Lennon’s case, it was supposedly self-doubt). But at the time, McCartney was cast as the villain. Even though it was actually Lennon who left the group first, McCartney was the only member to ever officially quit.
But on 8th August 1969, the Beatles walked back and forth across a street they knew well: Abbey Road. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr lined up and crossed a few times, while a cop held up traffic, right outside the studio where they were already booked to show up for work that day. The whole photo session took only 10 minutes.
Yet this became their most iconic image: sky of blue, trees of green. It sums up the sunny confidence of the most popular album the Beatles ever made - which also turned out to be the last. Abbey Road turned a zebra-stripe crosswalk on an ordinary London street into holy ground.
It would also be the last record they would ever record together.
With their last Abbey Road studio session having taken place two days earlier, and a successful performance in Canada with the Plastic Ono Band five days before that, Lennon appeared to have decided that it was time to act on a feeling he’d had for some time. He later said he started thinking about the end of the band when the Beatles stopped playing live: “That’s when the seed was planted that I had to somehow get out … without being thrown out by the others. But I could never step out of the palace because it was too frightening.”
Lennon delivered the news at a group meeting that also included Ono and Klein, right after McCartney tried, once again, to persuade his bandmates to consider playing live. Lennon was asked to keep his decision quiet, because business deals including a new record contract could be compromised. He agreed.
Ono later told writer Philip Norman of the journey home from the meeting: “He turned to me and said, ‘That’s it with the Beatles. From now on, it’s just you - okay?’ I thought, ‘My God, those three guys were the ones entertaining him for so long. Now I have to be the one to take the load.'”

"i am hungry,
i have been hungry,
i was born hungry,"
- abbey by mitski
my first SAKURA FIC woooo!!! not much yet but i have a lot of plans and thoughts... i reworked the entire chakra system for this fic.. :))
its an AU where sakura was born with the ability to see chakra(not tenketsu points, simply the general shape), or what she refers to as people's "auras" due to a conversation with her mom. the way chakra is seen is different from the anime, kind of closer to the manga but still tweaked a little..
i have a pinterest board for the fic here (as well as a playlist linked on ao3) :
there's an in-depth explanation of how chakra appears in the AU under the cut if you're interested ;D
CHAKRA AU:
the way your chakra appears is dependent on two things; your personality or "soul", and your chakra affinity(s).
THE COLOUR - dependant on personality/soul
RED: people who are well-grounded, energetic, strong-willed and fiery
ORANGE: people who are adventurous, thoughtful, considerate, creative, action-orientated, and positive
YELLOW: people who are relaxed, friendly, sunny, confident, charismatic, and creative
GREEN: people who are social, communicative, nurturing, loving, compassionate, and nurturing
BLUE: people who are intuitive, spiritual, freethinkers, powerful, insightful, and flowing
INDIGO: people who are curious, spiritually connected, gentle, sensitive and empathic
PURPLE: people who are wise, intellectual, independent, intuitive and empathic
PINK: people who are kind, caring, and loving
BLACK: people who are tired and low
WHITE: people who are pure, wise, and spiritually connected
TAN/BROWN: people who are logical, strategic, down-to-earth, and analytical
**this system isn't absolute and holy correct, it just gives a general idea of the kind of person someone is. it's very common for people to have multiple colours and some people's chakra is darker or lighter
THE MOVEMENT - dependent on chakra affinity
EARTH AFFINITIES: their chakra is more rigid and strict as it flows around the person; it moves less than any other affinity, and can be described as more stable.
WIND AFFINITIES: their chakra is more akin to the movement of wind itself, like a breeze, it moves faster than most affinities, though some people's wind chakra can appear more turbulent than others.
WATER AFFINITIES: their chakra is flowing and methodical, it is fluid, and often times rhythmic in its movements, however just like wind chakra it can vary from steady and graceful movements to jerky and sporadic ones due to varying factors.
FIRE AFFINITIES: their chakra is wild and intense, it is crackling and sporadic. it is always fierce in its movements; blazing.
LIGHTNING AFFINITIES: their chakra is unpredictable and inconsistent; it moves more than any other affinity, with flickering and buzzing movements.
**once again it is possible for people to have multiple affinities and therefore some movement patterns mix or overrule one another.
i wont spoil other peoples chakras, but seeing as sakura cant see her own; this is what hers would look like using these "rules".
SAKURA HARUNO: has an earth affinity, as well as a water and fire affinity; her chakra movement is full of contradictions, sometimes steady, but more often it is jerky and wild. her chakra appears primarily as a pink-tinted red, with hints of blue throughout.
phew that was a yap session, but i had thoughts alr gang. you don't need to know these to read the fic, but it is the underlying guide i am using!
