Shattered Dreams, Broken Nets: Cricket Academy of Peshawar in Crisis
The now-defunct Maazullah Khan Cricket Academy in Peshawar Cantt, a cricketing nursery where dreams were once nurtured, now rings with the sound of disappointment. Its nets, torn and frayed, dangle like spectres of a glorious past. Its pitches, punctured with holes, look more like an abandoned field than a practice ground. This harsh truth casts a long shadow over the dreams of aspiring young cricketers who hope to follow their idols.
It's ironic. Five coaches, in charge of turning raw talent, oversee this sorry state of neglect. Even Abbas Afridi, Pakistan's fast bowler and national star, practicing among the ruins, underlines the sorry state of neglect at the academy. How would aspiring players manage to thrive in such a godforsaken place when national stars are subjected to such dreadful conditions?
The question echoes: whose job is it to save this sinking ship? Are the coaches, apathetic to the academy's fate, remiss in their responsibility? Or has bureaucratic indifference clouded the sports authorities' eyes to the decaying infrastructure? The battered pitches, far removed from the smooth surfaces needed for developing batting and bowling techniques, tell a story of neglect.
This is not merely about torn nets and uneven pitches; it's about hope being eroded. The academy, a source of inspiration for cricket-loving children in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is now a symbol of institutional failure. How can Peshawar give birth to the next crop of cricketing heroes when the very foundation of their training is in tatters?
The crisis requires urgent action. The Cricket Board and the Directorate of Sports of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have to intervene, not only to restore the physical facilities, but to revive the spirit of the academy. The nets need to be repaired, the pitches needs to be levelled, and the administrative works closely watched. It's not about cricket alone; it's about cultivating hopes and making sure that the ardour for the game doesn't perish due to neglect.
