I’m taking a styling class this semester! For our first project, I had to choose one garment that I could turn into 20 different garments. I choose this elephant print wrap skirt that I've had in my closet since high school, it’s a very large piece of fabric so I knew I could work with it in all different ways. After choosing the 9 best creations, I turned them into complete outfits and added accessories! **All outfits inspired by Tahliah Barnett // fka Twigs**

A love note to Chanterelle Grover. Bask in the construction and problem solving genius that is she! I did not want to spoil the surprise of how we drowned Ophelia before Hamlet opened(and closed) because this dress unfurling was omg so bonkers good. There are 25 yards of fabric in this motherfucker that I designed and she brought to life. This is what a partnership is about. #hamlet #costumedesigner #3dartist #drapergoddess. Final shout out to Clarkie Kabler for knocking out a killer hat at the last moment that absolutely slayed the look. And PS- these two graduated from AAU school of fashion as costume designers. #aau #aaufashion #aaucostumes

5 Break-out Designers from #AAUFASHIONSHOW
It is officially graduation season out here in San Francisco and that means only one thing - AAU Graduation Fashion show! Graduating seniors show off their collections to fellow students, industry big wigs and proud teachers + parents. After two semesters of hard work, 30 students majoring in fashion design, costume design, knitwear design, jewelry + metal arts and textile design, present 20 collaborative lines including women and menswear.
From those 20 collections, 5 stood above the rest with their bold use of color and eccentric shape play - something that the Academy of Art design department is known for. Next up are 5 break-out designers that went above and beyond expectations, serving fierce looks down the runway!
Scroll down to see the 5 best lines from the Academy of Art Fashion Show!

Bowen Tian’s collection was surrounded around the idea of sleep in your garment, as art students pull all-nighters Tian brings the idea of take your bed with you! The collection brought forth unique silhouettes and an unusual choice of fabric - but one that worked perfectly for her inspiration. The way she brought together a useful outfit and stand out designs, there is no wonder she is a CFDA and Teen Vogue scholar!
Aastha Shah

Aastha Shah’s collection was based of Holi, a festival of colors and love in Inda, Madhubani Painting, painting done with fingers, twings, matchsticks, ect, and Mehndi, a form of body art. Offering up bright printed garments against the all white fabric paired with asymmetrical pieces created quite the eyesight, bopping up and down the runway! The ties to her heritage and homage to the cultural of India creates a celebratory collection earning Shah a harty Bravo!

Jessica Wijaya names her collection "Distortion”, this line comes to life through her inspirations about her childhood. Two key ideas about her childhood are where she attend her primary schooling and the game rubberbands, both involved high creativity and allowed her imagine run. These past memories led into her neon pink collection with detailed beading that are visually striking, creating a fun and funky mood for the runway.
Jeanne Marie Sanguinetti
BFA Fashion Design

Jeanne Marie Sanguinetti collection stems inspiration directly from the game pac man, including all the the characters, symbols and colors of the original game. It was a shake up on the runway, straying away from more abstract concepts while being widely forward, something that paid off for Sanguinetti. The structured designs versus the playfulness of the garments harmonized beautifully, a fun twist of excitement from this collection!
Jiran Xia
BFA Fashion Design

Jiran Xia explored the the contrast between the lightness of air against the gravity of earth, wanting to capture the 3D aspect of vision in the silhouette and the earths ground in the embroidery. Using feathers in several looks to show the connection of animals to humans and having a prints represent plants to bring the whole concept of nature together in a soft pallet. A combination that was implemented effortlessly and garments that gracefully glided down the runway.
These standout stars all brought their own passion and creativity to the runway, excelling past expectations! To watch the full runway show click here and be sure to let us know which collection was your favorite in the comments!

If you guys didn't already know I am a fashion student at the Academy of Arts University. My school has a huge fashion department and hosts a fashion show every year to show off the designers best collections. But not any fashion student is allowed to show at the spring show only the ones that are chosen from the department heads are allowed to be able to participate in it. There a lot of blood sweat and tears that go into preparing for this collection. Last year actually my best friend she was chosen as a final designer for the fashion show and she always mentioned how time consuming and stressful it was.
When I first arrived to the show it was in a unexpected and random location in the mission area in down town San Francisco. It was being held at a location that was similar to a storage house you could say. As I walked in I noticed many of the students were dressed well as expected. There was a long hallway where students had their own work on display to be featured after the show. Once I walked passed that I entered into the actual fashion show. It was a geometric inspired layout with strong detailed lighting being dropped from the ceilings. As I got my seat the show started soon after. The next designer had a different feeling completely . There was a large use of bright colors such as oranges bright blues, purples, pinks. These garments also had very bold silhouettes. The shoulders were emphasized for a more striking look. There was also a strong use of heavy jewelry in this designers look as well. The next designer had a greek themes design with lapels and grey, and beige as its main colors. It was very bold and striking, but looked almost impossible to wear outside. A lot of the woman and mens were oversized, yet it was cohesive due to its color and shapes. The next designer started off with a show of blue garments with interesting necking. the following looks after were a mix of muted dark blues, and grey. All the garments had interesting cutouts and were asymmetrical. The next designer had a very funky feeling. They started with a mix of purples and oranges with a street wear inspired.
Now for my personal opinion on the fashion show. Now I like to keep things 200%.. I was not that impressed with this years fashion show. And heres why. 1st. The location wasn't impressive.. It was in some hard to find warehouse. When I walked in it didn't look like a location for a fashion show to be held it looked like a storage room that was emptied out. Compared to the last fashion show I saw that was in a gorgeous building with beautiful interior. It gave it a presence that was memorable. 2nd. The designers didn't all have the same amount of designs in their looks. It felt as if some of them were unfinished almost. Like they didn't have enough time to complete their garments. The show seemed like it ended so suddenly because of that. 3rd the quality was lacking. I myself take pride in things with fine detail. As I was observing the garments up close I saw that the material they chose looked very cheap.. It did not look like people would want to pay money for them because the designs were so avant garde and yet the materials used were cheap so it wouldn't be appealing for the customer. Overall I felt like there was room for improvement hopefully next years show will be much better! Click here to check out more about it and let me know what you think about it,

Hey! Everyone long week no see. This week I had a thought “I really need to be more creative with my life!! Yea, unfortunately I hit a slump this semester but with summer close on the way were are in the midst of graduation season, and being a fashion student at the Academy of Art University, what better way to kick off the end of the semester, get out of my slump, beginning of summer, and the beginning of our Alumni’s growing career than to attend the 2016 Academy of Art University Graduation Fashion Show, to view some of the new upcoming fashion designers as they show there final collections as student and step forward into the industry of fashion design. Also being that we have a focus on style here at the headquarters that we also go to get a first-hand look at some of the summer beauty trends from the runway, to keep our creative juices flowing with new and upcoming inspirations.
So where do we start, getting up to the venue that Wednesday was a train wreck and a half, with traffic, opposing schedules, not getting off work on time(ranting!), being friendly-stared down by the many AAU staff, and on top let me just add that gravel and heels definitely never mix, but once inside the venue all of that no longer mattered, From the verticality of the warehouse and the darkly light room, to the mile-long spotlight running down the click route of the runway. Many of the chairs where already filled with the hustle and bustle of eager fashion students and non-fashion students alike anticipating the beginning of the show. The atmosphere in the room is so enticing that if the world stopped that moment in time, a fashion stylist such as myself could live in bliss for the rest of my days. This is also the moment I as a like to stand afar form the crowd to do some observing, not only to the main stage but to the audience as well, people watching is a favorite pastime, and added bonus to doing so you can scope new outfit ideas, trends to try, or just some all-around fabulous outfits that make you say YASSS. (I also got some footage of some of the audience leaving the venue, that i will post another time due to lag issues. ugh)
The moment everyone starts to settle, the models hit the runway showing beautiful garments from slick neutral tones jumpsuits to in electric purple tulle garments, painting beauty pictures and storylines with the fabrics, drapery, details and silhouettes selected, with a wonderful eye pleasing mixture of menswear, high-end womenswear, and some androgynous vibe-filled outfits as well. so one my favorite designers that night was Karin Kate Wong, a Macanese BFA Fashion Design student/soon-to-be graduate. To me here pieces had the perfect vibe of soft and edgy, the massive amount of detail and hard work that was put into to coming up with this collection, form the concept all the way down to the final stiches, was pure genius in my eyes and can be seen from the runway. Having her main concept being “Bed” is a tricky thing to pull off, I say that as a stylist who works mainly with concepts because it’s can be interpreted and executed many different ways, and the variables from it being a success to being a flop can be really risky, but Wong came out on top for me that night. Hidden inside her edgy laid back vibe in her collection I see this string of pure elegance, the mix of beautiful and the not so beautiful is the epitome of romance in style for me. Wong’s lineup consists of intricately detailed, dramatically draped silver garments showcasing a variety of different neck lines, pant lengths, and silhouettes with my favorite (and possibly most of everyone’s) being the Robe styled garment. The theatricality of the drapery, movement and rhythm the garment has with the beautiful model cascading down the runway sporting the look of the show a dark pout, white-out eyebrows, and gold threaded hair, is pure love! I’m pretty sure I held my breath and blank out the rest of the show thing about that garment, and needing it I’m closet! Could you even imagine!
Designher Karin Kate Wong
All in in all, every single designer who had their collection shown on Wednesday deserved every single moment of celebration and earned all the respect I had in my possession that night. “The determination to do what you do best” is honestly what strives me and all of us here at the femme headquarters to keep going, and push all in all aspects of life, as should all of you! the beautiful design work present to me and the audience on May 11 was everything I looked forward to and many more and I can’t wait to see next years graduation show! if you were able to watch or watched it stream live let me know what you favorite outfits were, and of you happened to miss out and want to get some info and insight to the hard work and dedication from the Graduates www.fashionschooldaily.com, for the interviews and some Q&A from the designers them selves
Remember no matter where you are in your life if it’s always best to remember who you are,
“do as you can, not as you could’
