on one hand i dislike the change to maria’s backstory in sonic 3 that she isn’t chronically ill— because lord knows how rarely we get actually good character rep as it is, and retconning the fact that she’s disabled at all just kinda irks me. on the other, i actually really like the change to have her cause of death be an explosion rather than a gunshot, because of the way it was handled. someone steps in to get another dude not to shoot at them, specifically saying “what are you doing, those are children.” children plural!! he’s talking about shadow too, and the way they used that to make it explicitly clear that they were both just kids broke my heart and stomped on it in the span of five seconds. because exactly one other person seems to actually see shadow as the child he is rather than an experiment or a monster, and he’s complicit in the accident that got his sister killed.
