I just loved Aaron’s dynamic with everybody this episode and it made me realize I just love his relationships with everybody like - not that everybody else doesn’t - Tru just has such great chemistry with the entire cast.

Also, I really hope we get more Celina and Aaron content I love their dynamic. That combo does kind of feel like putting miscellaneous later-introduced characters together lol but it is WELCOMED because I really like these D&D buddies. And I love that they brought up the unsolved murder of a loved one connection because it is one of the first things I thought of when they became friends.

(this is another one that I love watching for in the background. Like in 5x16 when Grey pairs Tim and Lucy, Celina turns to talk to Aaron at the table in the background.)

First Day

The first day on the job as a rookie for Y/N at the Los Angeles Police Department was anything but ordinary. The sun was just beginning to rise over the city as she walked into the precinct, her heart pounding with a mix of nerves and excitement. She adjusted her new LAPD uniform, feeling the weight of the badge on her chest.

Roll call had a charged energy. It was the first day for three rookies—Y/N, Celina Juarez, and Aaron Thorsen. Each of them looked around the room with wide eyes, taking in the seasoned officers who exuded a confidence they could only hope to emulate someday.

"Alright, listen up!" Sergeant Grey's commanding voice cut through the chatter, bringing everyone to attention. "Today, we’ve got some fresh faces. Y/N, you’re with Detective Harper. Juarez, you’re with Officer Nolan. Thorsen, you’re riding with Officer Chen. Welcome to your first day. Try not to embarrass me."

Y/N gulped as she caught Nyla Harper’s gaze. Harper was known for being sharp, no-nonsense, and fiercely protective of her team. As the assignments wrapped up, Nyla walked over to Y/N.

“Rookie,” she said, her tone calm but firm. “Stick close, listen carefully, and don’t do anything reckless. Got it?”

“Yes, ma’am,” Y/N replied, her voice steady despite the butterflies in her stomach.

Out in the patrol car, the city stretched out before them. Y/N tried to focus on the radio chatter, but her mind raced. Nyla seemed to sense her nerves.

“Deep breath,” Nyla advised, glancing at her. “First days are overwhelming, but you’re here for a reason. Remember that.”

“Thanks,” Y/N said. “I’ll try to keep up.”

“You will,” Nyla assured her. “Just keep your head in the game.”

The moment of calm didn’t last long. A call came through about an armed robbery in progress at a nearby convenience store. Nyla grabbed the radio.

“7-Adam-15 responding,” she said, her voice steady.

The adrenaline surged as they sped to the scene. When they arrived, chaos was unfolding. Two masked robbers were inside, one waving a handgun while the other shouted at the terrified clerk. Nyla motioned for Y/N to follow her lead.

“Stay low, move quietly,” Nyla instructed.

Y/N nodded, gripping her sidearm tightly. They entered the store cautiously, taking cover behind shelves. Nyla called out, her voice commanding.

“LAPD! Drop your weapons and come out with your hands up!”

The robbers didn’t comply. Instead, one fired a warning shot, causing Nyla and Y/N to duck. A tense standoff began, with Nyla trying to negotiate.

Suddenly, one of the robbers made a move, and everything happened at once. Nyla engaged in a struggle with one of the suspects while Y/N focused on the other. Y/N’s heart pounded as she tackled her target, managing to disarm him.

Then she heard it—the faint scuffle of footsteps behind her. Turning quickly, Y/N saw a third robber aiming a gun at Nyla, who was too preoccupied to notice.

“Detective Harper!” Y/N shouted, moving without thinking. She lunged in front of Nyla just as the gun went off. Pain exploded in her side as she fell to the ground. Nyla turned, dispatching the threat with precision before dropping to Y/N’s side.

“Officer down! I need backup and an ambulance, now!” Nyla shouted into her radio, her voice tinged with urgency.

Within minutes, Aaron  and Lucy Chen arrived on the scene. Lucy rushed to Y/N while Aaron secured the area.

“Hey, stay with us,” Lucy said, her voice gentle but firm as she applied pressure to the wound. “You’re going to be okay.”

Y/N blinked up at her, trying to manage a weak smile. “This... wasn’t how I imagined my first day going.”

Lucy chuckled lightly, though her eyes remained worried. “Yeah, well, maybe aim for less drama tomorrow, rookie.”

Nyla knelt beside her, her expression a mix of anger and concern. “Why the hell did you do that?” she demanded. “You could’ve been killed.”

“You’re welcome,” Y/N muttered, wincing. “Thought you’d appreciate the save.”

Nyla shook her head, her jaw tight. “Don’t ever do that again. Do you hear me? You’re my responsibility out here.”

At the hospital, Y/N’s condition stabilized. Nyla stayed by her side, her stern demeanor softening slightly. When Y/N woke up, Nyla crossed her arms, giving her a look.

“You scared the hell out of me today, rookie,” Nyla admitted. “But you’ve got guts. Stupid, reckless guts, but guts nonetheless.”

Y/N smiled weakly. “Thanks, I think.”

Nyla’s lips twitched in the faintest hint of a smile. “Rest up. We’ve got work to do, and I’m not letting you get out of it that easily.”

A bond had formed between them, forged in the heat of a chaotic first day. Y/N knew it wouldn’t be easy, but she felt a newfound confidence knowing she had a mentor like Nyla Harper watching her back.

The next day, Celina and Aaron arrived at the hospital to check on Y/N. The three rookies had already bonded over their shared experiences at the precinct, and now they were eager to spend some downtime together. Y/N was sitting up in bed, looking far better than she had the day before.

“Finally, you’re awake,” Celina teased as they entered. “You know, some of us like to actually finish a shift without getting shot.”

“Yeah, try being normal for one day,” Aaron added, grinning. “First day and already taking a bullet for your TO. Show-off.”

Y/N rolled her eyes, though her smile betrayed her amusement. “What can I say? I aim to impress.”

The trio laughed, the tension from the previous day melting away. They were just about to leave the hospital together when Nyla entered the room, accompanied by Angela Lopez.

“Not so fast,” Nyla said, her voice sharp as she crossed her arms. “Rookie, we need to talk.”

Y/N froze, her friends exchanging amused glances as they stepped back to give Nyla space.

“You pulled a stunt yesterday that could have gotten you killed,” Nyla began, her tone firm but not unkind. “I’ve seen a lot of rookies, but you’re the first one who decided to throw themselves in front of a bullet for me. I’m still mad at you for it, but…” She paused, her expression softening. “Thank you.”

Angela stepped forward, a warm smile on her face. “I’m Detective Lopez. First time meeting, but I’ve heard a lot about you already.” She extended a hand. “Thanks for keeping Harper safe. She’s not easy to impress.”

Y/N’s face turned red as she shook Angela’s hand. “Uh, just doing my job, ma’am,” she stammered, her nerves kicking in. Angela’s beauty caught her off guard, and she could feel her friends watching her intently.

As Nyla and Angela left, Celina smirked. “Oh, someone’s got a little crush.”

“What?” Y/N protested, her voice rising slightly. “No, I don’t!”

Aaron laughed. “Yeah, sure. You were totally smooth back there.”

“Shut up,” Y/N muttered, her cheeks burning.

The three of them burst into laughter as they exited the hospital, ready to hang out and unwind after a long day

this was super fun to make, and a rare occurance for me to be involved in fandom activities (i haven't participated or been active in a fandom since middle school) but the predictions were so fun to come up with!

let's see which one of them comes true!

Ok so I spent the last hour trying to figure out the rookie timeline. When you look at dates given it just doesn’t work at all but if you ignore that and go by amount of time we are told passes, like 6 month exams, time cards aka “3 months later” or “1 month later” stuff and births of children then it makes more sense so here it is:

Timeline:

S1-S4 ep1: 14 months. (Nolan extra month of rookie year, promoted to P2 4x1)

S1: 6 months, midterm exams s1 ep20.

S2 ep 1: 2 weeks after s1 finale

S3 ep 9: 5 1/2 months later, Lucy and Jackson become p2s

S3x9 - S4x1: all in 1 month, Angela kidnapped, Jackson dies, Nolan is a P2

S4 ep1: end of ep is 3 months later (time card is given, Angela rescued and skip to baby coming home after birth)

S4 ep2: We meet new rookie Aaron Thorsen

S5 ep2- S5 ep3: confirmed 1 month time jump. Lucy finished uc school, Nolan finishes FTO school, Aaron has been promoted to P2

S4 ep2-s5 ep3: about 13 months

S5 ep2: Leah is born

S5 ep3: New rookie celina introduced, we know she will graduate to p2 in 13 months.

S5 ep9: “a few months” into Celina’s rookie year she is implicated in the death of a suspect in her custody

S5 ep10: Chenford first date. Leah is confirmed 5 months

S5 ep12: Tim tells Grey him and Lucy started dating “a few weeks ago”. Angela finds out she is pregnant

S5 ep20: Tim confirms him and Lucy have been dating for “a few months”

S5 ep:22: Angela gives birth. Probably been about 6-7 months if she is about 10 weeks pregnant when she takes the test.

In simple terms:

So start of S1 - end of S4 ep 1: 17 months.

Start of S4 ep2 - S5 ep3: 13 months.

S5 ep2- S5 ep10: 5 months

End of S5 ep 9 - S5 ep12: 3-4 weeks

S5 ep12 - s5 ep22: 6-7 months

So the events of the rookie has taken place in about 3 1/2 years
