The Minyard hcs?

So, all these hcs started because I asked my friend this — so Nicky is a Hemmick but Aaron and Andrew are Minyards. Again, Luther is a Hemmick but Tilda is a Minyard. They're maternal cousins so it means Tilda married and changed her surname to Minyard but where's Mr. Minyard? (Nora we need answers)

Hence, these hcs:

What if Tilda was the black sheep of the family, then she met Mr. JM/MJ Minyard, he shows interest in the mess that is Tilda Hemmick. He sometimes goes to church when he’s in town (even though he's an atheist) because of his grandad. Luther hates his guts and that’s good enough in Tilda’s book. Technically, she only started dating him because her brother hates him, and it helps that he's cute with a smartass mouth so it’s a win.

Mr. M’s a good man, a soldier, and most importantly he's serious about Tilda (he helped her get off drugs, leave her toxic family, cut off her 'friends'). Entertaining his advances and finally falling for him was the best dumb thing that Tilda Hemmick did in her gray dull life. Eventually, they marry.

Too bad they didn’t get to enjoy their honeymoon, too soon Mr. M gets called because hello? he’s in the military. He gets deployed somewhere, only for Tilda to find out she's pregnant a few days after she got the letter saying condolences because Mr. M died (or is he?) after protecting someone from his squad.

Tilda was devastated, she didn't know what to do. She really wanted to keep their baby, their twins, because they're the remaining connection she has with Mr. M but how? Should she keep them? Can she keep them? She already tried that, hold onto someone, and what happened she lost him anyway.

She's a dumb self-sabotaging bitch, but she decided she didn't want to abort them. She wanted them to live, in her grief she wanted a part of him and her to exist in this goddamned world – the twins are a part of him as much as they are a part of her. Selfishly, she thought they were the only proof that someone did love her, truly.

But after she gave birth, when she saw the twins, she couldn’t, oh no – she wouldn’t look at them – they look so much like him. Realization hit her; the twins will be nothing but a remainder of the love she wanted so badly to deserve but still lost.

So, she gave them up and left the hospital.

But when she got home, he’s everywhere, they’re everywhere. (His jacket, his car, their photos, the baby clothes, the unfinished crib). The guilt wouldn’t leave her, she didn’t know any better, so she went back and got one baby and never looked back.

AU where the twinyards’ dad finds out about them and fights to get them back

TW: Andrew’s past (before the Spears), Aaron’s abuse (mentioned), Nicky’s treatment by Luther

He finds Andrew first.

Michael is just an ordinary guy, in his mid-thirties working a boring office job. He doesn’t hate it, but it’s definitely not what he sees himself doing for his entire life. He has a solid group of friends, he’s single but he doesn’t mind and he has a nice little appartement in Oakland. Sure sometimes money is tight, but he manages.

Until one day his world crashes upside down.

One person in his group of friends is a social worker. It’s a Thursday when he gets her text. It’s just a “can I call you?” but he immediately knows there is something amiss. Sarah never asks to call him, she usually just does regardless of what time it is. He calls her and she tells him she wants to see him the same evening. He agrees. They meet up at their usual restaurant and she tells him about this kid in Oakland who just got thrown out of his foster home. Michael asks her why she’s telling her that. The woman takes a deep breath. She digs into her bag, gets a file out and lays it in front of him. Michael frowns, wondering what the heck is going on. But then he sees the name.

Andrew Joseph Doe.

“What is this?”

Sarah gestures at him to open the file. He does. He does and when he sees the photo pinned on top of all the papers, his stomach drops. Because staring back at him is a younger version of himself. Well, it’s him but it’s also not. Michael doesn’t say a word, he just stares at the photo of this ten year old boy staring back at him with eyes devoid of any joy. His throat squeezes.

Sarah talks before he can. “Michael we’ve known each other since we were seven years old. This boy is you.”

Michael gulps. He knows it. He sees it. The boy—Andrew—has his face. He even has the same faint beauty mark at the corner of his mouth. Michael’s eyes are darker, the boy’s are hazel, their hair is the same shade of blond.

His mind spins and spins and spins, until he remembers an evening in San Jose ten-ish years ago. He doesn’t remember the details, but he remembers a woman, one too many glasses of alcohol and a night spent in a hotel in her company. “Jesus fucking Christ. Sarah I don’t… I didn’t… Are you sure?”

“We could do a DNA test, I don’t know maybe I’m imagining things but you are seeing it too, yes?”

Michael takes a moment to answer. “Are you allowed to let me take this home?”

“Technically no. But no one will know.”

Michael doesn’t sleep that night. He reads the file from beginning to end, reads about how Andrew has been tossed around foster homes without ever being allowed to settle in one. He learns that he is deemed difficult, angry for his young age. All Michael sees is a lost kid who needs help. He texts Sarah the next morning that he wants to meet him. It takes a week to organize a meeting. Sarah can’t be there for it because she has to take care of another kid but Michael goes with his friend Phil Higgins, whom he has known for a couple years now.

They meet Andrew’s caseworker first. Michael has a long discussion with him, then they meet Andrew. Andrew looks like he wants to be anywhere but here except when he meets Michael’s eyes, there is something that clicks. There is very little doubt they are related and Michael sees just how much intelligence there is in the boy’s eyes when he stares at him. Michael doesn’t know what to tell him, this child whose existence he didn’t know about until barely a few days ago. Michael immediately wants to bring him back home with him. He knows the process is going to be long but he wants to pull some strings, and Higgins is here to help.

It takes weeks to get the paperworks in order, but after an excruciatingly long wait, it’s done. He gets to take Andrew, his son—the DNA tests came back—home. Adjusting to this new life is strange. Andrew doesn’t talk to him. Higgins helps with enrolling him to school, Sarah gives him precious advice, but Andrew is a closed book.

Until one night where Michael decides to take him to the ice cream parlor after school. It’s been three weeks since they’ve been living under the same roof, three weeks of silence, but this time Andrew speaks. “Why did you do this?”

It takes Michael a second to register Andrew asked him a question. “Do what?”

“Decided to take me with you?”

“Andrew you’re my son.”

“It didn’t matter until now.”

“I didn’t know about you. If I did, I would never have let this happen. I swear.”

Andrew frowns. He eats more of his ice cream (a chocolatey monster. It’s fine, Michael will make him eat veggies for dinner). “I don’t know you. Your words mean nothing.”

Michael can hardly comprehend this boy is just ten. “Andrew, I’m going to need you to listen to me very carefully. If I had known, I promise I would never have let any of this happen. You’re my son, and I swear you’ll never need to worry about anything again. On my life. Understood?” Andrew frowns, but he nods. Things start to get better from there.

Until a year later when Higgins, who had been sent to talk at a school in San Jose and calls him freaking out because he swears he saw Andrew there. It’s impossible, Andrew has spent the entire day at the zoo with Michael because they decided to take a day away from everything. Higgins sends him a photo of a boy who looks like the carbon copy of his son.

This is the second time Michael’s world crashes down.

Higgins helps him find out about this child—Aaron—and when he learns the way he is treated by his mom, Michael fights the courts to get custody and protect him. It works.

The twins have a hard time getting along, but slowly they make progress. The three of them learn to become a family no matter how strange it is but Higgins suggests signing them up to the school’s exy team.

It helps.

They make some friends, including a troublemaking redhead, and things get better from there.

Until one day another boy shows up at Michael’s doorstep. He recognizes him from his fight against Tilda. His name is Nicky, he’s sixteen, and he looks like an absolute mess. Nicky tells him everything he’s been going through.

Michael cannot let this broken boy alone, he cannot allow that.

So he goes back in front of the courts to get custody. He gives them evidence of conversion therapy and with Higgins again on his side, Nicky ends up joining the house and his cousins where none of them ever need to worry about anything again.

Meu headcannos sobre os MONSTROS (AFTG)

Nicky não é tão amigável assim. Ele realmente não se importa com outras pessoas além daquelas que são importantes pra ele. Ele não sai fazendo maldades gratuitamente ou sendo mal educado, mas a família dele(Wymack, Abby, Bee, as Raposas, principalmente os monstros, Ketlyn e Erick) sempre vem em primeiro e ele não se sente realmente mal por nada do que Andrew faz (ele sempre ajuda os outros, mas só até onde não prejudica a família dele). Ele só voltou pra cuidar dos gêmeos pq ele amava Aaron e não queria que ele parasse na casa dos pais dele, ele passou a amar Andrew depois.

Aaron não é realmente homofóbico, é apenas algo que foi imposto nele desde bebê e ele acaba fazendo comentários sem perceber, mas é principalmente pq ele não gosta de ver afeto romântico, então ele faz um barulho enojado. Ele só se importa com a opinião da família dele (Raposas, Wymack, Abby, Bee, Erick e Katlyn ), mas até mesmo pra família ele não faz questão de se explicar, então ele deixa eles pensarem o que quiserem sobre ele.

Way better concept: Kevin only thought he was attracted to Andrew cause he likes aaron but thinks he is unattainable (straight/taken/just rude and unsocial cause he is aaron). So he does not let himself to look at aaron but he can look at a Andrew without it being suspicious and can still “see” aaron. Aaron thinks Kevin really likes Andrew and is heartbroken. They miscommunicate until Neil has enough with their sh*t and gets Renee to help him get them together.

kevaaron is so unreal in my head like im just headcanoning the fact that kevin had a crush on andrew but couldn’t have him because andrew gets with neil so kevin found himself attracted to aaron to cope because andrew and aaron look the same and he’s like “if i cant have you then I might as well have someone who looks like you” so kevin’s like gaslighting himself to dating andrew when really he’s dating aaron and using him as a replacement of andrew

i reworked my original timeline because something was bugging me about it and now it SHOULD be correct

NOTE: some of these dates are approximated from generalizations made in the book– for example, nicky says andrew's letter to aaron arrives two weeks after cass calls tilda. i assume this is an general use of 'two weeks', but i've taken it literally as 14 days, which is why the letter is dated to arrive november 29th. approximated/assumed dates are marked with a *

november 4th, 1986: aaron michael and andrew joseph minyard are born to tilda minyard in san jose, california

november 7th¹*, 1986: tilda gives the twins away to foster care

november 14th*, 1986: tilda returns to the hospital and takes aaron home with her, leaving andrew behind.

november 4th, 1999: aaron and andrew turn 13 years old. aaron lives in san jose with his mother, and andrew lives in oakland with his foster parents cass and richard spear. they are unaware of each other

november 14th², 1999: oakland raiders vs san diego chargers football game at ring central stadium in oakland. aaron and tilda go with one of tilda's boyfriends, and whilst there, aaron is mistaken for andrew by officer phil higgins, who takes tilda's contact information to pass onto andrew's foster mother, hoping to reunite the brothers

november 15th, 1999: cass spear calls tilda to arrange a meet up for aaron and andrew, but tilda refuses, telling cass she wants nothing to do with andrew and to not call her again. aaron hears all of this by listening in on the upstairs phone line, and he and tilda argue.

november 29th* 1999: aaron recieves a letter from andrew that basically says "fuck you, go away."

december 1999: cass writes aaron a letter asking him to try contacting andrew again in the spring, and that holidays are a difficult time at their house

march 2000: andrew goes to juvie for an unspecified offense

may 2000: tilda and aaron move to columbia, south carolina, and aaron meets his cousin nicky hemmick for presumably the first time.

*unspecified time in early-ish 2001³: luther hemmick finds out about andrew and begins a 'years-long' campaign to reunite him with tilda and aaron. i am choosing to place this around april 2001

six months later, approx. october 2001: luther flies to california to meet andrew and his foster family

one month later, november 2001: aaron flies out to 'meet' andrew for the first time at juvie. they have probably just turned 15

march⁴ 2003: andrew makes early parole and is released from juvie. luther makes tilda take him home, and then aaron, andrew, and tilda, finally all live together in columbia

→ nicky hemmick moves back from germany on the day of tilda's funeral, presumably about a week after the crash. he gets a job at sweetie's diner to provide for the twins, eventually becoming their legal guardian⁶

→ not long after, andrew locks aaron in the bathroom to get him clean from the drugs tilda got him addicted to

october* 2003: nicky and the twins start working at eden's twilight

november 4th, 2003: the twins turn 17, their first birthday together

december 2003: nicky is attacked by four homophobes outside eden's. andrew saves him, almost killing the men in the process, and he is arrested

may⁷ 2004: andrew, 17, finishing his junior year of high school, is put on trial for what he did and sentenced. his parole agreement includes court-mandated therapy and mood altering drugs that he is scheduled to be on for 3 years

august 2004: andrew and aaron begin their senior year at macon high school

february⁸ 2005: kevin day and riko moriyama offer andrew a contract to play with the edgar allan ravens, which he refuses. kevin and riko travel to south carolina to find out why, where andrew refuses again and he and aaron play a scrimmage with kevin on the court

march 2005: david wymack meets with the twins and nicky at subway, and gives the three of them contracts to sign with the palmetto state foxes, which they do

june 2005: aaron, andrew, and nicky finally join the lineup for the PSU foxes

notes/citations under the cut

1) guesstimate based on when i think it's legal to give children to foster care. i assume its not that long after birth, and i believe the twins had to spend time in the ICU beforehand as well. the 14th is an approximation based on the fact that nicky says tilda went back for aaron after a week

2) raiders v chargers was an actual football game that took place in oakland 10 days after aaron's 13th birthday and therefore works out perfectly for the timeline thank youu nora

3) nicky says this in the start of the raven king, october 2006:

I agree that these things should be discussed and explored, because even though we don’t exactly agree with Nora about these topics, she did write them.

The one thing I will never understand though is Andrew’s misogyny.

How could Andrew Minyard, whose close friend is Renee Walker, a woman, a STRONG woman, whom I don’t believe would ever associate with a misogynist, hate women and think that they’re inferior.

I’m aware that Nora said that he is a misogynist in her extra content, but the way she wrote him and especially his friendship with Renee shows the contrary.

Moving on to some of Nicky’s creepiness (and I do believe he was a bit creepy)

Some of the things that Nicky said COULD potentially be seen as him being confidant in his sexuality—him constantly hitting on Neil even though Neil wasn’t interested and appreciating Neil’s looks—but there are many things that could only possibly be viewed as creepy and predatory.

Nicky saying he wanted to get Kevin “too drunk to be straight” was simply creepy and can’t be viewed any other way.

Nicky kissing Neil can only be viewed that way as well. And while I am CERTAINLY not excusing his actions, we should take into account that he was drunk, high, and everything that happened that night was horrible.

Moving on to Aaron, many of the things he said could be viewed as homophobic. (I’m not sure if Nora said anything about him being homophobic in the extra content, so I’ll only be talking about things from the books)

While the things he says could be viewed as homophobic, I don’t view it that way. The times he seems “homophobic” are mostly when Nicky is being CREEPY towards Neil. Yes the way he tells Nicky to stop is him basically calling Nicky disgusting, but Aaron (and almost all of the characters) are assholes. He said it in an asshole way.

He also said that he would tell Erik on Nicky, which shows that he recognizes Erik as someone important to Nicky. I personally don’t think someone who was truly homophobic would really associate himself with his cousins boyfriend.

Neil was definitely selfish in the beginning, but he develops throughout the story.

Kevin is bitchy, and the way he was written didn’t really show much improvement, but I think that the farther away he gets from the nest the less bitchy he becomes.

And while he was certainly bitchy, he showed a softer side a few times in the story (VERY RARELY) like when he got the chess piece tattoo and when he spoke to wymack at the last game.

(Also I don’t really know enough about Jack to talk about him)

All of these characters have flaws, but that is perfectly normal, and the flaws I covered CERTAINLY aren’t all of them, but all of these characters grew throughout the story.

Everyone can have their own opinions about these characters and these things I went over, but these are just mine. (I’m sorry I just really don’t see Andrew as misogynistic or Aaron as homophobic.)

Anyways i think we should explore Andrew’s misogyny and we should explore Nicky kissing Neil without the latter’s consent and we should explore Aaron and Jack’s homophobia and we should explore Neil’s selfishness and we should explore Kevin’s bitchiness and we, actually, should explore all these negative trauma responses instead of screaming and wailing and erasing them. Fruit.
