i think that childe has developed a fear of the dark after he got out of the abyss, he can't stand staying in a dark, silent room alone cause it reminds him of the things he had to deal with all alone in the abyss before foul legacy came along, and even then since FL would only come out for a fight/battle, they got closer later, imo they weren't too happy in each others company till childe got closer to getting out of the abyss. so when childe and you get close, FL sees you as the light and warmth he never got in the abyss.

whenever you and childe travel or have to stay in the wild during the night, he always holds ur hand for comfort and when FL comes out he never lets go, constantly holding you and if he's feeling particularly needy, he'll carry you wherever you guys are headed

i also think the tips of foul legacy's hair has a slight glow to it, so it isn't noticeable in the day or afternoon, only at night

and this isn't related to the above buTt- i hc that foul legacy is camra shy, straight up refuses to let you take any pictures of him so u gotta be sneaky about it, leter shoing childe a pic of foul legacy looking at a firefly curiously in the wild and seeing the tips of his hair have a slight glow <3

Childe definitely has a fear of the dark- the only reason nobody knows is because he always covers it up with his love for battle- but if he's ever left alone in a dark room he starts breathing erratically, clutching at his chest and head because he can't stop remembers the things he saw in the Abyss- Archons, sometimes he wishes he could just stop thinking. sometimes it gets so bad that Foul Legacy instinctively takes over to save his sanity, but the Abyss monster despises the darkness just as much if not more than Childe, and he ends up breaking down, curling into himself and sobbing horribly

once you happened to enter the room by chance, and were immediately tackled by an overwhelmed Foul Legacy, clinging to you and crying into your shoulder. it took a good hour of your soothing words and gentle touch to help him calm down, voice quieting from sobs to soft whines

Childe holding your hand is for comfort- but not just because of his hatred of the dark; it's also to reassure himself that you're still here, you haven't disappeared or gotten injured or anything. Foul Legacy in particular clings a lot, curling his claws around your wrist and burying his face into the crook of your neck with little chirps and trills- if you try to dislodge yourself, he starts whimpering and looking at you imploringly, begging you not to leave. he'll pull you against his chest with a contented purr, carefully preening your hair and occasionally nibbling on your fingers- no wonder it always takes a while when you and Childe want to travel!!

OHHH THAT LAST BIT IS MAKING ME THINK- the first photo you ever happen to snap of Foul Legacy is at dusk, his head craned upwards to look at a firefly on his mask. he looks so awed, not quite sure what to do with the tiny creature, but you're more in awe of him and the way the tip of his hair and his gauzy wings shimmer. he knows you've taken a picture when he hears the kamera click and he lets out a yelp, hiding his face in his hands and whining. but you only laugh kindly, sitting beside him and leaning against his knee, and gradually he unwinds and melts into your pets with a purr. if he opens his eye, he only sees the adoration and love in yours
