peeped here out of curiosity (i know u have good takes and rb good/interesting takes + filtered words don’t work when viewing blogs and i’ve filtered every single om tag ever) and uknow what? while there’s aspects of the (supposedly) satan-focused i greatly enjoyed (mostly as writing inspo and just the enjoyment of the moment itself more than its part in the overall narrative tbh) i was endlessly frustrated by the fact that diavolo got the true highlight. i couldn’t place why the hell it made me so annoyed but you’re right—the real main character of the story was diavolo and it annoys the hell out of me that satan was painted as more of the bad guy. despite having the most screen time, satan felt like he was simply a means to an end, with the end being some way to show/remind the audience all of diavolo’s princely qualities that often get sidelines in favor of his usual behavior in events.

like. i greatly enjoyed seeing satan lose his shit to the point of terrifying crowds of demons. i liked seeing him lock himself away after to try and process everything by himself. the bits of vulnerability when mc finally manages to speak to him? love. (not that much of it is actually new info but i do enjoy that it’s there)

but the rest of everything else has me pulling at my hair. especially the ending… i wanted mc to ask for something that would be primarily to satan’s benefit after all the bullshit that happened. (and also satan thanking diavolo for giving mc his stars felt… idk. it felt like it encapsulated how a lot of the story key part felt; reminding us that diavolo’s the actual ‘hero’ here and not satan.)

to validate what you mentioned, i also only enjoyed snippets of that event (though as we know, it's been like this for most obey me events for a long time); diavolo aside, witnessing satan compose himself with such sincerity and generousity felt like a blessing tbh. he knows his limits, he knows what upsets him and he should be listened to, even if he gets emotional about it. so what! most of us become emotional when defending something we hold close to our hearts, and satan was no different.

i've said this in the other ask you sent, but you came back right on time as the new lore-focused obm game has been announced! satan was one of their focal points that they mentioned, as well as lore surrounding the (pre & post) celestial realm, solomon, and the attic. it's gotten the entire fandom riled up including myself, and everything looks promising so far :)

i was wondering why the spacing between events in-game have been getting longer and longer, and i'm glad to know it's because they're putting importance on quality over quantity. they began making baby steps in the previous "single character-focused" events, but i'd like to mention that i am very satisfied with the release of simeon's new birthday event, especially when you compare it to the first one for symbolism reasons.

i won't go in-depth about it now unless someone asks me to share my thoughts, but it was the right amount of promising writing i needed to give me hope. for you specifically, satan didn't delve into any cat shenanegains and when he confronted lucifer & brought up a good point, he was acknowleged and listened to. everyone did such a good job...aaaa <3

Somnus was (and still is) obsessed with bugs, biology, zoology, and anatomy. He would absolutely freak Dream and Nightmare out by trying to show them the “super cool spider I just found”.

Somnus doesn’t have good magic control or stats. He sometimes wishes he didn’t have it at all, rather than being weak. Because of this, he took up a lot of material arts, such as medicinal practices and potion making.

Somnus is a *serious* insomniac. Like, the hardly sleeps insomnia with night terrors and daydreams attached (realizing the irony in that).

Somnus only started becoming interested in science because he was looking for a way to create and sustain artificial magic. His hope was that by using natural elements, he could find a way to enhance his magic. Heeee has yet to find that solution.

Somnus’ Dream was a very oblivious child. Not in the “dumb blonde” stereotype way, but in the way that if he wasn’t told something, it didn’t happen in his mind. He was, however, very observant.

Each of the brother’s gained something from their mother tree: Dream’s cape from the banner sigil, Nightmare’s powers from the blackened apple, and Somnus’ talisman carved from the wood of a branch that fell in a storm.

I've read up until chapter 3 of 'You Can Sun if You Want To' AND JUST JFKHJFGKSJHGAGJFGEIJRFIERHRJVIEUHNVR it is so toe-curling (you knew what you were doing when you made Gintoki say wife) and the interactions between Gintoki and reader are so adorable and wholesome.

It makes me so happy to know that you enjoy how I characterise Gintoki, but aaaa please don't feel self-conscious!! Gintoki IS a poopy man (I say this affectionately <3) and your story has so much charm to it. For one, you write the silly parts of the characters so well and at the right time such that it doesn't make the more serious parts feel undermined.

Sometimes I actually feel like I'm writing a little too seriously,,, in regards to both the story and Gintoki's character and I feel like maybe I have to loosen up otherwise he'd end up too ooc HAHA. so first off, the first few works i read of yours, i actually didn’t realize they were all written by the same author (aka youuu) :o surprisingly, i don’t think it’s actually the “in which” series that prompted me to check your masterlist of works, but your piece winter rush! you actually inspired me to download cats & soup and i still have the game on my phone to this day 🤭 (even tho i have a hard time committing to it these days)

as for your “in which” series, these are some of your works that stood out to me most vividly before i took the chance to read the entirety of the “in which” series!

in no particular order:

in which jungkook won’t tell you what’s wrong and you get emotional motion sickness - this one just really hit home for me in the way i deal with conflict and arguments, and how i tend to get quiet when i’m really upset and i always try my hardest to cry silently

in which jungkook comes home drunk but bam can’t speak - this one always makes me giggle! it’s just so domestic but truly so jungkook-coded, ya know? and i always love imagining owning a pet w/ a partner, it’s just peak domesticity for me

in which your period cramps bring you to tears but jungkook’s gentle hand is warm - as a girly who always needs attention (but even more so on her period) just reading about oc waking up and having jungkook tend to her as soon as he senses something wrong just makes me feel so warm, safe & loved 😭 and imagining his big, warm hands giving oc a much needed massage (i aspire to have this love one day 🥺)

and lastly, in which jungkook wants you all for himself and you buy him flowers - just something about buying jungkook flowers and him being like “for me??” and it just makes me hope that whoever he ends up with buys him flowers regularly :((( & ofc i’m always weak for a bam appearance!!

y/n's at the airport, waiting for her bestfriend, taehyun to pick her up. she had went to the UK for her studies for almost 2 years, only now coming back to her home country, after working her ass off on part time jobs for the flight tickets. she's shifting her weight from one foot to the other, feeling a bit nervous, thinking about meeting taehyun. sure, they are bestfriends, but y/n hadnt seen him for more than a year, what if he had changed? will things get awkward? she cant help thinking to herself.

she was suddenly pulled out from her thoughts by a loud honk from the car in front of her, causing her to stumble on her own feet. she heard footsteps approaching her, knowing it was taehyun.

"oh my god, im so sorry, i forgot you're such a clumsy ass person," he said, holding out his hand to get her up.

y/n's worries seemed to dissipate entirely when she saw taehyun biting back laugh, but his smile still escaped.

"you did that on purpose, didnt you!" she glared at him.

just like that, they were back to being theirselves, just bestfriends teasing each others endlessly. well at least that's what y/n convinced herself.

taehyun took her luggage into the boot and went into the car, followed by y/n. they were still parked in the airport's parking area, just catching up with each other. y/n was trying her best to engage into the conversation, but she was too distracted. it's like her eyes were pulled to look somewhere, and that specific somewhere was taehyun's lips. he was wearing lip rings on both ends of his bottom lip and the way they caught in light when he's talking was definitely not helping.

"what do you think, y/n?", taehyun looked at her.

that was when y/n realised she was staring.

shit, what did he say?

"um, sorry, what did you say again?"

"you were busy staring at me, arent you. you miss my face that much, huh?" he teased, smirking.

he suddenly inched closer to y/n's seat, pushing up both of their carseats' armrests in the process, his face almost too close to her liking. more like her heart's liking, cause it's going really wild in her chest.

"here, look at it as much as you want,"

he cracked a smile. it's a genuine one, the one where his eyes almost close completely, teeth full on display. she knows it cause she saw this countless times before.

oh god, he's beautiful.

before y/n could stop herself, her thumb went to his lower lip, slowly tracing it from the left end to the other. his lips were warm and soft, contrary to the piercings that were cold to her touch, sending shivers down her spine. y/n didnt know where did her boldness come from, but she kinda likes it.

she heard him gasped, lips partly opening. her eyes were still trained on his lips when she asked,

"when did you get these?" her thumb was still tracing the outlines of his lip, putting a little bit more pressure this time, completely addicted to the feeling of the metals against her thumb.

"a-a few months back, i think," he stuttered, a lil bit overwhelmed by y/n's touches.

"oh, so, it doesnt hurt anymore, right?" her eyes flickered to his half-lidded eyes for a moment, hoping that he'd understand her intention of asking the question. her gaze was met with taehyun's expectant one, y/n swear she could see him wanting the same thing.

taehyun just hummed a yes in response, unintentionally making his mouth close around part of y/n's thumb. it was y/n's turn to gasp, and that's when she decided to just go for it, the hesitance in her long gone.

their faces were just a matter of a few inches from each other when taehyun shut his eyes tightly, letting out a shaky breath before stopping her lips from meeting his by placing two fingers gently on her lips.

“ if you kiss me now, i don't think either of us are going home tonight. “ he quietly warned y/n, before he felt like he could lose control.

"and what if i dont wanna go home tonight," she looked straight into his eyes, tone almost daring.

after what felt like years to y/n, she heard him shifted in his seat.

"you're gonna be the end of me, y/n," he stated, before swiftly pulling y/n onto his laps in one motion, making her straddle him.

"now, where were we again?"

Tbh I'm still learning myself so I probably can't expand on areas like messing around with perspective etc. etc., but I can definitely give you a few things that helped me start out.

1. Study images, photos, screenshots, etc.

2. Rule of 3rds

3. Study color

When I started to dip my toe into painting bgs more seriously, I heavily relied on Genshin Impact screenshots. At around that same time, I became a Genshin content creator, so I wanted to learn how to draw places in Teyvat! The more I practiced, the less I needed to rely on screenshots. I still do use screenshots and Pinterest photos of rooms and stuff for inspiration tho.

All in all, if you're focusing on a more realistic style, it's mostly recommended to study from real life stuff when you're learning fundamentals.

When it comes to the composition itself, I usually like to apply something I learned in a photography course I took when I was still an art undergrad called the 'Rule of Thirds'. It's a great general rule of thumb so your backgrounds look nice and well planned!

I'm terrible at explaining these sorts of things well, so I pulled this explanation from the Adobe website. (lol)

"What is the rule of thirds?

The rule of thirds is a composition guideline that places your subject in the left or right third of an image, leaving the other two thirds more open. While there are other forms of composition, the rule of thirds generally leads to compelling and well-composed shots.

If you imagine dividing a photo, or even your camera’s viewfinder, into nine equal zones using horizontal and vertical lines, that forms your rule-of-thirds grid — a setting you can select on most cameras and even on your phone.

“This might be a generational thing, but if you think of The Brady Bunch intro where you have the nine identical rectangles,” Ingersoll explains, “they’re all the same size and it’s three by three — three rows, three columns.”

That means the corners of the central square are the intersection points in your grid where you want to place the focal point of your shot. It’s called the rule of thirds, but you can think of it as giving you four crosshairs with which to target a shot’s important elements. This will help you balance your main subject with negative space in your shot to nail an effective photographic composition that will draw the viewer’s eye."

Personally, when I'm dealing with my backgrounds, as you've probably noticed before, I'm absolutely OBSESSED with painting skies, landscapes, and all that good stuff. My professor who introduced us to the rule of thirds had us practice this by taking picture of a tree, and wanted us to have 2/3rds of the grid rows with sky, 1/3rd with the ground and vice versa. He also advised against taking pictures where there's half sky and half land (i.e. directly in the middle of the grid), because it could look boring!

Of course this doesn't have to be followed religiously, but it's a good way to avoid stressing about how you want to arrange your background. After a while of practicing that, it's something that unconsciously becomes a part of your workflow.

Color is.... a really gray area tbh (lol). If you don't understand how to work with it, it can be one of the reasons why painting backgrounds could be very painful. I couldn't really grasp how to color well until I took a painting course (also when I was still an undergrad student), and I was forced to face coloring head on with acrylic paints. My prof taught us some great tips to jump off from that I kept applying even after I dropped out of the program.

I'm sure you're probably familiar with color schemes! (complimentary, triadic, and analogous), and if not, here's a great resource on it https://www.canva.com/colors/color-wheel/

But the tip that helped me the most was 'depth by color"! Here's some slides from the ppt to give you an idea (I'd send the whole color theory ppt. cuz it's really useful, but I don't think I should since it was class material, so here's the three slides.

So yeah! When I wasn't sure which colors to pick for my acrylic paintings, I referred to this method of creating space through colors, and was able to get a better understanding of how to use them in my bgs. I don't follow this method as often anymore cuz after a while of using set palettes, you're able to know what feels right and what doesn't.

This is also kind of unrelated, but if you use Clip Studio Paint, it has this really useful menu called 'approximate color', which is also pretty great for picking colors as well.

I usually have it set to "red" and "saturation", but toy around with the settings to get some color options you prefer!
