Process of an illustration I made for risograph printing, based on popular chilean tableware of the 80s. I'm hoping to print these in a couple of weeks. Added a little step-by-step under read-more for those who might be interested.
So I started with the digital idea first, then I drew each of the cups on paper and scanned them individually. Then I did a digital collage to fix the size of each item and figure out the placement since I wanted them to be proportional to their real size. I also did the border in illustrator.
Once that was done I printed the final sketch with the right sizes and used an ink pen to draw the final lines on translucent paper, scanned it, and did the colors on three separate layers (one for each color) and added the dotted effect. All of this on ClipStudio.
My scanner is not A3 so I had to divide the drawing into 2 and join them digitally, that's why you can see a split on the border.

Apologies about the line. The original is painted on A3 size paper and my new scanner is for size A4. Acrylics on paper, and I'm rapidly running out of white paint. A few close-ups behind the cut :)

Hello Risunsky,
I've been following your big traditional art project with great interest and so much enjoyment (the PAIN when the spillage happened in Version 1; big flashbacks to when i poured the brush cleaning water over an almost finished painting...) - almost every update leaves me in awe, truly! I'd totally frame the pencil stage of it already! (the level of detail in your work!! 👌🏽)
As a traditional artist who's always struggling with the restrictions of the scanner, I was wondering how you are going to digitise it? Are you putting it on an A3 scanner bit by bit with turning (and loud cursing) and then putting it together digitally? Or using something like a BookEye Scanner? Or a camera?
This has been on my mind since you presented the new massive sized sheet of paper "HOW is Risunsky gonna scan this monster??"
Anyway, apologies for my curiosity and thank you so much for taking us on this journey, its incredibly interesting, inspiring and helpful to see!!
Have a great evening!
Hello Delullu,
First of all, thank you so much for your kind words, they make me very happy! Your support in sharing and on ko-fi encourages me a lot to keep going!
It's a good question and your curiosity doesn't bother me at all! I still don't know how I'm going to do it, I knew it might be a problem when I started this format but I didn't want it to be a hindrance.
For the moment I have two options: either I find a professional in this field near me and pay for the service, or I use the same method as when I work on A2 format, I scan piece by piece (I only have an A4 scanner) and assemble digitally. It's a rather painful step and I'm apprehensive, but I'll do my best as always.
For this kind of project I tend to jump into the void without a net or elastic and have to improvise at the last minute haha!

Hi ☺️ How are you?
I absolutely adore your art. It’s got a certain sensitivity to it. 💜
I’d like to ask you a question concerning your art. I’ve read that you’re looking to opening an art shop (that’s wonderful btw, congrats!) and are scanning your art for it. Would you tell me how and with what you scan your pictures? I’ve been thinking about doing the same thing. But I don’t know how to start and how to get the best quality pictures scanning my art.
All the best 💜
Aziralock
Hello!
Actually, I'm still asking myself soooo many questions! Because, I have a big problem... since I love to paint with golden paint, I'd like my print to have some golden highlights...
At first, I wanted to go with an online print shop like ArtPal, but can I ask for Golden Highlights? I don't know. I just ordered a print from the website to see how is the paper and the print quality.
If I'm not satisfied, I'll ask my hubby, he's got a very good A3 scanner for his work, and go via an artist printer, and send all the prints all by myself^^
At first I wanted to scan my art with my own scanner but it doesn't like watercolor very much...
I hope I answered your question!

Do you start your drawings on paper, or start fully digital?
I love your work btw <3
99% of the stuff I post is entirely digital! But if I had an A3 scanner and light table I would probably do more combined stuff because I love how it looks, as you can see ^^
#I super love the hint of blue guidelines and thin pencil lineart it’s just ❤️❤️#especially in backgrounds#I prefer drawing on A3 instead if A4 because I can get more detail in and it just looks a little neater once scaled down#and it’s the size we use at work so it’s what I’m used to#only problem is that I can’t find the prismacolor colerase pencils in sweden!! they have to be imported from denmark boo#and you kind of need an electrical pencil sharpener but the normal ones are baaaaad so I need to import a professional one from the factory#even more boo

I have a respectable collection of vintage fashion magazines, pattern drafting books and pattern catalogues.
I also have just acquired an A3 scanner that has been named “Roxscann” by suggestion of a friend of mine.
Roxscann is being put to use and will make digitising my collection so much easier, what with all the bigger than A4 papers I’ve got (some I suspect are bigger than A3).
My life for the next I don’t know how long will be place paper, click two spots of a screen, wait approx 60 seconds, open scanner, turn page, repeat. Then I get to do all the post-processing. At least with most of what I’ve got it’s just a matter of straightening a rectangle and cropping/masking out the non-document bits.

hey, i was wondering what's the size of the paper you use 👀 your art is so beautiful and so detailed and i thought it was digital but just saw it's paper, also do you scan it to post here or is there other way? it looks really flawless, and sorry if these are silly questions but idk much about technology 😅 i love your art ❤️🩹
this is so sweet, thank u so much for liking my art and all the nice things u said 🥺🥺 no those questions arent silly!!
the size of the paper i use really depends on the subject i want to paint, it varies from an A3 type of format/size to sometimes smaller than A4! usually to paint the smallest details in my paintings i use 10/0 brushes ☺️
i think what makes the difference is my scanner.. i scan my paintings in order to post them and the files i obtain from the process have 600 dpi which gives them incredibly high quality and resolution, so that even if the painting itself isnt very big in size the scanner still captures every little detail and i get a file that can be zoomed in extremely close 😚

My art is the most important part of my spiritual work – if there is a reason why I have put so much effort in becoming a skilled artist, it is because I want my works to be worthy of the entities and experiences I depict. This week, since we have the Guardian Angel service coming on Friday 25, I have finished this piece.
This is 100% personal gnosis, so the specific meaning of each detail and entity is completely private. I would like this kind of work to be reinterpreted by the viewer as they please, just as you would do with abstract art; it is made to generate a feeling in you, to inspire you.
Please notice that this is just a picture made with my phone, because the piece is too large for my scanner, so there is a slight distortion of colour and perspective. Colour pencil and ink on paper, A3 size.
Join me on April 25 for the Guardian Angel group ritual!

A Quick Overview of Flatbed Scanners
When there is space-crunch, looking for devices that can assist in daily work-needs, without adding up to the place, is the need of the hour. Flatbed scanners, unlike sheet-fed scanners, don’t require movement of pages or documents but need the documents to be laid on the flat surface. They are super compact for both home and office use, and are known to be swift in scanning, with great precision and clarity. Some flatbed scanners come with impressive features, like fast multiple page scans and innovative lids that allow fast-scanning of thicker books, magazines or document stacks, making it a must-have scanning device for the millennials.
Scanning on-the-go
The flatbed scanners are sleek and compact by design. They can easily sit on shelves at homes and offices. Some scanners with upright scanning option can help you scan almost every document in an upright position. This adds to the versatility of flatbeds even in extreme space crunch making it a perfect fit for all kinds of offices.
Impressive Time-Saving Qualities
Some flatbed scanners have impressive scan speed and can support multiple page PDF scanning. One-touch access to frequently used operations makes the procedure less time-consuming. To add, pictures and documents can be scanned quickly with a touch of a button. Features like auto scan mode and auto document fix have further added to the high-speed and good resolution scanning that flatbeds are known for.
Effortless Scanning in Good Resolution
Flatbed scanners do not compromise with the quality of outcome they generate. Some of them come with advanced image correction features that allow instant, good-quality PDF and media scanning. With grain and scratch-reduction qualities, flatbed scanners can create good quality photos. Reverse side show-through is common with scanning thin papers and gutter shadow is also a real issue with flatbeds. However, the unique technology present in some flatbed scanners help eliminate dark shadows that occur due to lack of penetration of light along the mid-part of the book. The advanced Z-lid technology further adds to efficient scanning of thick books and magazines by reducing the chances of gutter shadows.
Flatbed scanners are a viable option if one is looking for instant, effortless, good-quality scanning. With hi-speed scanning and space-friendly features, flatbed scanners are becoming the office-favourite that could also double as a personal-scanner anytime, anywhere.

Stimming Sherlock - Part 2
Sherlock’s nervous energy seeks relief in stimming. John notices and takes a moment to figure out what is going on.
2B mechanical pencil and white colour pencil on brown paper, A3
-
Yay, finished my first art after coming back from rehab in January.
I have done most of my fanart on A4 because my scanner is A4 but I have started to feel kind of caged by the small format. A3 is a bit tricky because I need to scan it in two parts and merge it digitally but it’s great to work on a bigger sheet of paper.
Feel free to reblog here on tumblr, but do not repost, edit, use or upload it anywhere else without my written permission!

Magic's descent comic
This is a postmortem of my first long-form comic, Magic’s Descent. I’m doing this as a way to grow and improve and hopefully someone else will find this information helpful.
Intro
I began this comic at the end of summer 2020 and finished it November 2021. I stared this project partly to improve my comic skills and partly to work as a portfolio piece for future work. It’s about 55 pages in total which I’ve written and drawn by myself. I started this project by creating a loose outline for the story, using the screenwriting book ‘Save the cat’ as a partial guide. Then I’d do thumbnails for about 3-7 pages at a time with some notes on dialogue before drawing them traditionally on A3 Canson comic paper. I didn’t have a finished manuscript before jumping into drawing the pages.
What worked
I actually managed to finish it!
I don’t think the story is overly complex, predictable or boring either and working from an outline instead of a finished manuscript helped me be flexible and change things as I worked on it. I really like the idea that everything that happens should either progress the story or develop character. I managed to get rid of an entire page because it didn’t actively contribute to the story.
I think there are some really cool panels and I managed to keep the composition and flow varied, avoiding the easy route of having similar or bland angles in the panels.
What should be improved
Story
It’s hard to tell how the story should be improved without feedback, which I’ll try to get. Overall I think that the characters could be more interesting. It’s my job as a storyteller to show how a character is as effectively as possible, to quickly get to their core personality.
Art
I don’t remember who said this but I like the idea; a comic book artist should strive to use 80% of their art capacity when drawing comics, but make sure that 80% quality is as high as possible. Comic art really is a balance between quality and speed. I think I didn’t put enough time and effort into a lot of these panels, which is the main reason the quality isn’t as high as I’d like. Some backgrounds are painfully boring and some of the costumes/armor aren’t well constructed or rendered. But it’s hard to justify that effort for a project that I never intended to sell.
Other
I was hoping that using a camera would replace scanning since I didn’t want to buy an entire A3 scanner, but I was not happy with the quality that got me.
Moving on
I’ve got some ideas on how to improve my comics!
Try to have a manuscript with dialogue done before drawing, or at least more notes
Study comics I like, both the art and the writing
Use 3D models when needed
Aim for 80% art or higher, if I feel annoyed or restless with a panel I’ll try to take a break and come back to it later
Give entirely digital a try
Try to break in professionally
Thanks for reading!
