(I mean, I can imitate him a little if I try hard enough. But actually acting as him is a high hurdle…) (I’m an actor though. I’ve played roles that are far removed from myself before.) Tsuzuru: Director… I like you. Marry me. If it’s for you, I can do my best. I love you.

Friend A: Hey, you okay there, bud?

Tsuzuru: Sorry, I know you’re busy and all.

Tsuzuru: No… it’s about that assignment we got from Director and Yukio-san. I have to act as Masumi.

Chikage: Oh, yes. The one where we’re supposed to play our roommates?

Tsuzuru: Whenever I think about how I should go about playing Masumi, the way he expresses his feelings straight to Director comes to mind… I think that’s Masumi’s character, for better or for worse. Although… he’s calmed down quite a bit these days.

Chikage: That’s true.

Tsuzuru: So, I thought I’d act as Masumi when he interacts with Director… But it’d be a bit tough acting like that on stage, let alone in front of the guy himself. That being said, I thought if I put some effort in, I could show how Masumi works to hard to show magic tricks to Director…

Chikage: Is that why you asked me for a favour?

Tsuzuru: You’re Masumi’s magic teacher, after all.

Chikage: If that’s how it is, I’ll help you.

Tsuzuru: Thank you very much!

Tsuzuru: I-I think I got it…

Chikage: Now all you need is practise. That trick I just showed you was one of the very first ones I taught Masumi.

Tsuzuru: You mean during our Oz play?

Chikage: Before I joined the company, I only knew how Masumi was on stage. It was a little surprising and unexpected when I saw how he was towards Director. I got the strong impression that Masumi was a skillful and cool young man. Of course, I wasn’t mistaken about that Masumi either. Both are different aspects of Masumi.

Tsuzuru: —. I thought I knew that, but when it comes to Masumi, how he keeps confessing to Director isn’t all there is to him…

Chikage: …Why don’t you think it over some more? If it’s you, then I’m sure you know a Masumi that you can play best.

Tsuzuru: I think you’re right. I’ll give it some thought!

Chikage: Since we’re here, I’ll give this sponge to you. You might be able to find some use for it.

#A3: Girl who sees ghosts meets poor shinigami. Comedy ensues.

Sakura Mamiya is a schoolgirl who has the ability to see ghosts. One day she meets a shinigami (a spirit guide), Rinne Rokudo, who happens to be a classmate of hers. Rinne is part human and part shinigami, who has been left in poverty due to his father stealing money from him.

The world is beset by alien creatures known as the Noise. Nothing can touch them, and if they touch a human being, both turn into carbon dust. But, with the symphogear system-magitech battle armor powered by music and singing, humanity has a chance to fight back.

This is one of Rumiko Takahashi’s underrated works (mostly getting overshadowed by Inuyasha due to her releasing this series after the fact), and I don’t see a lot of people talk about it often. While it’s not my favorite of her works, it’s one that I still like because of the way she portrays the characters. Plus, it still has that classic Rumic comedy and feel to it and I really love the animation with her artstyle. Anyways, if you like supernatural comedies (with a hint of romance) then vote for Rin-ne!

This is the best example of music fights I’ve ever seen. They sing WHILE fighting. It’s amazing. The fight choreography, how the music plays into it, and let’s not forget the incredible character development. The entire cast is full of characters that would be the highlight of any other show. And last but not least, it is off the walls insane fun. You think it reaches its heights at the end of season 1, but no. It keeps climbing, and you are along for the ride.

speaking of the stranger half of the mankai stage autumn play; when they encounter ryo and shinmake want to follow ryo (and izumi), but banri actually Thinks and is the good leader in this situation and tells juza to stay with omi and Juza Actually Listens To Him Without A Second Thought despite them only ever arguing showing that they really just bicker for fun and completely drop the act when the situation requires them to

all of the zombie run night performance but especially banri doing a backflip and sumi showing up and like totally crushing it with his acrobatics and banri just clapping with a genuine smile like!!!!! god, and also banri doing the sankaku pose after he tricks sumi into being captured

The Hydraulic Dogs - "Shake It for Me" Turbo Sampler (Vol. 2) 2000 House

Boy, do I have an absolute fuckin' underrated y2k-era banger for you all today. I really have no idea how the UK house music duo of Hydraulic Dogs ever first came about, but let's just say that it was definitely a good idea for these two guys to team up. Dominic Dawson aka DJD had been a veteran house DJ and producer since the 80s and Jonny Delafons aka L B Dope was a drummer for country-blues-acid house-trip hop band Alabama 3 (A3 in the States), whose biggest claim to fame would undoubtedly become "Woke Up This Morning," which would go on to serve as the theme song to The Sopranos.

But in the year 2000, with what seemed to be something of a side project for both of these blokes, Dawson and Delafons released their first single together, a funky piece of filtery and bonging house music called "Shake It for Me," which on top of a pretty standard four-on-the-floor house backbeat that added some hand drumming, incorporated samples from two extremely popular songs:

One, "(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty," by KC & The Sunshine Band,

And two, "California Love," by 2Pac, Dr. Dre, & Roger Troutman from 80s electro-funk band Zapp.

Released on UK label Influence—a sublabel of UK label Defender—"Shake It for Me" would find its way onto a small handful of mixes in 2000, including two that were released by the biblical UK electronic music monthly, Mixmag, but another mix the song ended up on was DJ Laflèche's Montreal Mix, which was put out on the Montreal-based Turbo Recordings label; and because of the song's inclusion on that mix, a fuller-length version of it also appeared on a Turbo sampler that year too, even though Turbo never actually released the song themselves.

Anyway, "Shake It for Me" is pure gold, man. The samples it employs are obviously not obscure by any means, but the idea of marrying the opening moments of "Shake Your Booty" to some of Roger Troutman's own talk-box vocals from "California Love" really ends up generating a track that, to this day, still feels fit for unleashing in pretty much any party setting. And when Dawson and Delafons kill the Troutman loop(s) in order to instead let his voice wander freely and way offbeat, those are the times when this song reaches its most satisfying points 😌.

So if you adore "California Love," it's probably best that you give this house jam from the early 2000s a listen too, 'cuz you're probably gonna end up digging how this British pair implemented it for their own tune as well.

A 2002 single put out on UK Sony sublabel Direction would feature remixes of "Shake It for Me" by Italy's Junior Jack and the UK's TBC (Matt Schwartz), and it would end up charting successfully, reaching #56 on the UK Singles chart and #2 on the UK Dance Singles chart. The Hydraulic Dogs would also end up releasing a handful of more singles between '02 and '03—mostly promos—a digital single in '08, and they'd also do some remixes too, including a couple for Alabama 3, and another one in 2012 for Orbital's "New France," which featured Zola Jesus on it. And that Orbital remix appears to be the last time that we'd ever hear from them as a pair.

But their debut sure was a nice gem!

Summary:

This series takes place after the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Serufu and her childhood friend Miku/“Purin” both applied to an elite school, where advanced technologies are incorporated into the curriculum. The tech-savvy Purin is accepted into the school, but accident-prone Serufu is rejected and enters a traditional school instead, driving a wedge into their friendship.

On her way to class one day, Serufu encounters Rei, who has a passion for old-fashioned crafts and is the head of the school’s Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Club—which is in danger of closing due to a lack of members. Realizing that this may be her chance to repair her relationship with Purin, Serufu joins the club in hopes of creating projects that could bring them together once more.

Propaganda:

It’s just a really feel-good series with some great characters. I adore all of them and their dynamics with each other, especially the main dynamic between Serufu and Purin as it develops. I’m a really big fan of the show’s angle on stuff such as do-it-yourself crafts following another industrial revolution, just because it does frequently bring up the question of “What’s the point of DIY if in a year or two/maybe even now a robot could recreate the exact same result?” through characters like Purin (who is the major character with the lowest opinion on these kinds of crafts at the start, since she’s in the technologically advanced school and has beliefs more in line with the efficacy of technology rather than the joy of human creation), with the short answer largely being because it’s just fun!

I first watched this show before I saw a lot of AI stuff intruding upon art and rewatching it after sure was fun, because I love its ideas on the worth of doing stuff that machinery could do much faster. It’s not super complex or emotional, but that largely goes in its favor, because it really doesn’t need to be those. It’s just a fun little anime about a bunch of girls having fun together through one shared hobby that some of them had from the start and some of them adopted. I also love the opening, and the ending is a massive comfort song for me. The series can also be very funny at points, and is usually super heartwarming.

Summary:

Rinne Rokudou has bigger problems than going to school—namely, helping spirits pass over to the next life. Because of this responsibility, he often finds himself short on money and struggles to buy his necessities: food, clothes, and exorcism tools.

Sakura Mamiya has been able to see ghosts since she was little. She hoped she would outgrow it, but even after starting high school, nothing has changed. To make matters worse, the first time her ever-absent classmate, Rinne, shows up for school, only Sakura can see him. She assumes, as anyone would, that he is a ghost. However, to Sakura's surprise, Rinne proceeds to attend school like normal the next day.
