We Are Family, Chapter 16: Victory and Defeat

By the time Zarc came back to the set to pick his brothers up, the day’s filming was almost over. It was almost time for the winner of tonight’s challenge to be announced and the elimination of the worst chef.

The quadruplets were munching on the leftovers. Yuya was on his third helping of Mieru’s apple curry, much to her delight. It really was some of the best curry he’d ever eaten. He smacked Yugo’s hand away when the blunana tried to swipe some of his curry from his plate as Zarc walked in.

“Zarc! Zarc there’s steak! There’s steak, Zarc!” Yugo called out as he and his brothers waved their older brother over. Zarc lit up at the mention of steak, and walked over to the quadruplets. “It better not be shoe leather!”

“Nah, this is good steak!” Yuto said. “It’s your favorite! Medium-rare! And tonight’s challenge was all about spice and heat, so it was made with a spicy marinade!”

“Ah, nice!” Zarc said, sitting down with his brothers to try the leftover steak. Yoko chuckled and spoke to the cameras, which were still rolling to get extra footage. “That’s my eldest. He just loves steak. He was spamming me with angry texts after the first night, complaining about the shoe leather steak one of the auditioners made. Called it an ‘affront to steak lovers everywhere’!”

“It was!” Zarc protested. “I’d like to see that guy actually eat that steak, just to understand what an atrocity he made! You should’ve made him eat it!”

Mieru came over to the boys, smiling at Yuya. “I’m glad you like my apple curry!” she said. Yuya blushed and looked down at his half-eaten third helping. “Yeah, it was really good. I love apples!”

Mieru was about to reply when the host of the show called out, “Alright, time for the elimination ceremony! All contestants and judges to the center of the room!”

Mieru went to join her fellow contestants in the middle of the room, and the ceremony began. The Sakaki boys all watched in anticipation, listening to the judges discuss the best chefs of the night.

“—The winner of tonight’s challenge is…” Yoko said, pausing for dramatic effect. Her boys leaned a little closer, waiting with bated breath. Then, Yoko revealed the name, “Mieru!”

“I knew it!” Yuya exclaimed as everyone cheered for Mieru’s victory. “That curry was too good for her not to win!”

“And now, the elimination,” said one of Yoko’s fellow judges. “Unfortunately, not all dishes were up to par. The person going home tonight is…”

After a dramatic pause, the person eliminated was named, a boy named Haruto. Honestly, the quadruplets weren’t too surprised with the reveal. Haruto had used way too much spice in his dish, to the point where even Yuri had trouble stomaching it. And he loved spicy food! But that dish was simply too spicy with not enough actual flavor.

Review: Go Ho’s Starry Night (KDrama)

I HEARD THERE WAS AN LEE JUNG SUK CAMEO AND I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO WATCH THIS DRAMA. I also liked the idea of the plot it was very intriguing. Scorned by a previous lover, but wasn’t out to seek revenge, she was going to find a new one. There were some great actors in this one also. The episodes weren’t very long so I jumped in.

Cast:  Kwon Yuri, Kim Young Kwang (I think I like him more as a bully), Lee Ji Hoon, Shin Jae Ha (precious little baby...not), Kim Ji Hoon, and Choi Duk Moon.

My Thoughts: This drama was actually decent. The first couple of episodes had me worried that I was in for a long and annoyed ride. However, it was actually a lot of fun. The drama was formatted in a way that we always saw what Yuri was thinking when she saw all her options of guys. It was a little weird that she had this many options, but maybe I was just jealous of three of them. She actually handled most of the situation as a person with morals. There was no, “maybe I should just play all of them!” She actually narrowed down who she liked and who she didn’t like. GO FEMALE LEAD!!!!!

There were so many cameos from the actors that were in Pinocchio. Maybe it was because the same creators from Pinocchio were working on this, but I enjoyed all the fun little stabs at Kim Young Kwang. What I didn’t like was Yuri ’s ex-boyfriend, Lee Joon Hi. He was a fine actor, but I hated his character. So first he breaks her heart without a word and comes back to just ruin her heart all over again. His reason for breaking up with her was so dumb I wanted to punch him in the face.  The young guy was interesting and he turned out to be, sadly, what everyone had thought, a player. The old guy was just creepy. I’m mean I get that he was lonely, but try blind dating or internet dating, don’t hit on your young subordinate. The fat guy, I didn’t really know his purpose. They just kind of shoved him in for no reason. I felt bad that he never stood a chance.

I might not have loved Kim Young Kwang in Pinocchio, but HOT DAMN was he awesome in this. At first, I thought he was just going to be the conventional boss that makes it their goal to ruin someone’s life because their’s sucks. However, it was one of those weird “he shows you he loves you through bullying thing” which was at least a little toned down in this drama. When ex-husband comes flying back in, he turns on his flirty mode and he became the top pick to win Yuri’s heart. I mean the young guy was not so bad either. I just liked Young Kwang’s character a lot. When he was mean, it was for a good reason and he didn’t make it like an ultimate choice on whether Yuri chose him or not. Even though he had waited for so long. They just made me really happy every time I saw them on screen together

This was a surprisingly good drama. All the actors were great at their roles. We had fun cameos everywhere. I also got to see for the first time a SNSD member in the main role. It was a light happy fun drama that took my mind off my busy workload!!

Skip Rate: I’m pretty sure I just skipped the episode about the fat guy like it was that unexpected for me.

Praetor Nikiforov, duh, because he’s gonna bring victory everywhere as the descendant of the goddes of victory

but he then got bored because he’s gonna win anyway so he is constantly looking for competition

he doesn’t ask to be a praetor but with 7 lines on his arm and Victoria backing him up, he doesn’t have much choice

doesn’t get why Katsuki don’t care about winning a game and enjoying a game instead

sulks cause he can’t have his own pet dogs (Argentum and Aurum is not his)

Yuuri Katsuki still a probatio (but is actually Mars’ legacy, Greek form: Ares)

very VERY late to join the camp, Fifth cohort, of course

no one knows how he survived Lupa’s training

but he’s in the camp anyway, waiting to be claimed by his godly grandparent

let’s face it, Yuri has to work  really, really, REALLY hard to make his presence known

but people just take him as scary, or like, talented. they don’t know the hard work behind it

the first time he shadow traveled, he ended up in the bath house, face to face with a -very much naked but super chill about it- Otabek

was amazed at how chill Otabek can be, but was afraid to approach him because…..

PERSONALITY: Charming, generous, sensual, fun-loving – she is the Norse goddess of Love Fertility, whose beauty easily wins favour with all the deities and grace effortlessly collecting hearts. Having an insatiable passion for the finer things in life, Freya usually indulged in tasty food, pleasant music, magnificent arts, and luxurious surroundings, and sometimes, steamy times between the bed sheets. Loving people and always welcoming fun time, the goddess has never seen herself fail to be the life of every party blessed with her presence. Wherever she is, whatever she does, Freya has never stopped exuding an absolute self-confidence and superiority.

Hardly anyone would doubt her endless love for family, friends and the brave souls, as she was always ready to take them under her wing, until it was totally safe for them to soar up again. She treasured honesty and integrity in both gods and humans, and even though she was really tolerant towards incompetence, Freya despises arrogance and laziness. Even though she was known as a benevolent goddess, Freya still got her darker side. It was a certainty for those who underestimated her seriousness to eventually shed their repentant tears, and those who caused agony to her beloved would receive tenfold the damage. Vengeful and merciless, the goddess was the epitome of a nightmare towards her enemies. “Better not get on a goddess’ bad side” would be her favorite advice to give.  

HISTORY: Daughter of Njord, sister of Freyr, wife of Odin, leader of the valkyries, an honorary member of the Aesir gods, and the darling of all the Norse deities, it sounded the goddess of Beauty, Love, Fertility and Death had it all. Presiding over Folkvang – the Afterlife realm, she had the right to claim half of the souls of the bravest warriors died in battle, allowing them, also their wives and lovers, to live a happy after-life in her home. The goddess was also called upon to comfort the other half of souls and guiding them to Valhalla – The Otherworld.

When there was no war and only peaceful life to indulge, she was happy and passionate to carry out her duty as a teacher. The goddess chose learning as one of her favorite leisure-time activities, so by the time she noticed it, Freya had already called the völva, a master practitioner of seidr, the most organized form of Norse magic. With her profound knowledge, the goddess was the first to introduce the magic art to the Norse deities and the mortal, guiding them how to practice seidr in the best, most effective ways.

Despite being seen gleeful and sociable all the time, Freya preferred to keep her marriage with Odin far away from the limelight. Their union wasn’t formed from true love, yet Freya’s admiration and respect for her husband was as bright as the daylight. She had wished to be a faithful wife to him, but Odin got so many different interests to plunge into, so many different foreign lands to land his feet on, and probably a debt to pay. There was barely any time for them after the wedding before Odin disappeared, leaving his newly-wedded wife in tears and distraught. Freya, in her falcon-feathered cloak, roamed all over the seven worlds for the sign of her husband, and finally heard the news of Odin being banished to the sea and turned into a monster. She stayed faithful to him, and even after his tragic death under the sword of an ignorant soul, Freya had done whatever it took Odin’s soul back to Valhalla, where he was allowed to have an after-death life, and where she could continue paying him visits as if they had never separated.

But no Norse gods and goddess could escape their destiny in Ragnarok. Freya was the “lucky one” to stay a decent distance away from the epic battle, understanding thoroughly that she would have to, once again, welcome the news of her husband’s and her beloved fellows’ heroic demises. After the final battle, when Odin’s and all the casualties’ souls came to Valhalla, Freya and the other deities who survived Ragnarok rebuilt the realms, and waiting for Odin, their king’s resurrection.

Thousands and thousands of years had passed since the Ragnarok, Freya somehow found herself roaming everywhere in the mortal world, each time in different appearance, bringing back different stories about the “modern life” happening on the Earth. In the latest time she left Folkvang to experience the mortal life, destiny guided her to Mount Phoenix, where deities from different pantheons and their half-blooded children could call home. Was this a sign that she finally found her final destination on earth? Freya could only hope for the best to come.
