#a weird blend of canon and fanon

Hi, I know you already addressed a lot of the mischaracterization of Kon and Clark's relationship, but I was under the impression that Kon actually means 'abomination' in Kryptonian, and that Clark giving him that name was a rejection in itself. I am not very well versed in comics, so I apologize if this is just a fanon concept.
Hello!
You're not alone in being misled, as this concept has stretched far and wide and it is a very common theme in fandom works like fanfic.
The concept of Kon-El meaning "abomination" is canon, not fanon, but its source is from the New 52 reboot.
Some fans have in an attempt to create more angst for Kon adopted the concept that Clark gave Kon this name knowing full well what it meant as a way of rejecting him - this is incorrect - and it is blending versions together to make something that just never actually happened with Clark.
There are two versions of Kon getting his name in a main continuity - one in the 1994 comics, and the other in the New 52 Superboy comics.
To best answer your question, I am going to talk about the New 52 version first where "Kon-El" means abomination.
Also, it is important to remember that this Kon-El, isn't even actually Conner Kent (that's another post for another day comics are weird).
Anyway, in the New 52 reboot Superboy is 'called' Kon-El not by Clark, but by Kara!
Superboy v.6 (2011-2014) #6
In this iteration, Kara has some extreme prejudiced bigotry towards "Kon" for being a clone due to the disastrous history Krypton had involving clones. It prompted her to attempt to kill "Kon" the moment she found out he was a clone after more or less calling him a slur.
Superboy v.6 (2011-2014) #6
You can blame Scott Lobdell for this particular evisceration of Kara's character and for the name Kon-El warping into 'abomination' henceforth.
This particular run and story is no longer relevant to main continuity and it is not attached to Conner Kent because this did not happen to Conner Kent, but it did in fact happen and Krypton's disastrous history involving clones is still canon as well. Kon is still facing varying degrees of discrimination from Kryptonian-based ideology (Eradicator) because he is a clone.
Now let's talk about Clark and Kon and where Kon-El first came from and put a stop to the slander.
Where the name "Kon-El" originally came from was from Conner's 1994 solo series where Clark offered it to him from a place of affection.
Superboy (1994) #59
The original moment of Kon obtaining his name from Clark was profound because up until this point he did not have a proper name. He was just "Superboy" or "Kid" or "Pup" (derogatory) so when Clark offers this Kon is so happy he starts crying.
Superboy (1994) #59
At this point in time in comic history Kon-El did not mean abomination, "Kon" was a real Kryptonian name, and in the original run Clark did not even have any resentment towards Kon or negative feelings about his existence at all. He trusted him, felt he was worthy of the S-shield as a representative of hope, and at this point he wanted him to be part of his family.
This is Clark adopting Kon into his family right here in this moment - because Superman is the tale of the immigrant, the refugee and of love in family where blood does not equal family. That is what he is saying right here in this issue.
It is also important to note that at this point Geoff Johns' making Kon a 'clone' of Lex AND Clark is not canon and Kon is not even supposed to be blood related to Clark.
In closing...
Clark's relationship to Kon/Conner Kent in the main comic continuity is not hostile or rejection-based.
In their comic origins they had a nebulous relationship which over time evolved to being firmly brothers with a huge age gap and now in current continuity they are again brothers but with a different perspective.
Action Comics #1028
Current continuity Clark who doesn't remember Kon at all knows him for less than a week and claims him and he is actually distraught he doesn't remember him.
Fandom is transformative and angst/hostility/rejection will always be a major theme people will love to create and consume - but it is also important to recognize that some details are simply not canon and should be regarded as transformative works to tell a story.
I hope this clears some things up from the comics side of DC.
#superfam#kon el#kon-el#conner kent#clark kent#kara#i am so sorry kara for the way scott did you wrong#dc comics#i feel like i am forgetting something else but tumblr ATE half of this post when i was typing it when i tried to erase something

I have so many thoughts for post series AU/Canon divergent fanon for Avatar that I have to write them all down and maybe get some feed back on them. Comics and TLOK are ignored/rewritten here. I haven't read the comics, so if there's anything in here that is at all similar to the comics, it's a coincidence. These will probably be referenced in the fanfics I'm working on. I'm slow I'm sorry
Putting under read more so people can scroll past if they don't care to read this because this got kinda long. TT^TT
Anyway, I just needed to organize my thoughts and get feedback. Please be courteous. Rude comments will get automatically blocked. These probably aren't that original haha but yeah...
Sozin, Azulon, and Ozai all kept detailed records of all the movement of the Fire Nation Army and Navy for the entirety of the Hundred Year War. For Sozin and Azulon, it was to track any signs of the new Avatar, whether it was an airbender or a waterbender if they had already killed the airbender avatar. For Ozai, however, it was less about the Avatar and more about Ursa. I doubt Ursa told him where she was going, and she was right not to. Through these detailed reports, Ozai found out where she was located a year or so after she left. He had his military attack the village she was hiding in with the pretense that there were traitors hiding in that village (and in his mind, there was). It was these records that Zuko finds out where his mother was last seen, and finds the destroyed village. Whether Ursa is still alive or not is up for debate (meaning: I haven't decided).
I also headcanon that Ozai and Ursa's relationship started out genuine. Ozai was genuinely charming, and she fell in love with him. As the years went by, however, his true controlling and abusive self started to leak out. After she left, Ozai took it out on Zuko. There's probably some weird jealousy shit going on in Ozai's head since she hadn't done what she had for him but for Zuko. So when he burned Zuko's face, it was definitely not about teaching Zuko a lesson. That was just an excuse/justification in his mind. Ozai was just looking for a reason to take out his anger about what happened with Ursa out on his son.
King Bumi reveals after Ozai is defeated that he and other members of the White Lotus had helped to hide the remaining airbenders both in Omashu and in Ba Sing Se. It just made no sense to me that Bumi, King Bumi of Omashu, one of Aang's closest friends, didn't help out the air nomads when they were under attack, offering Omashu as a place of refuge and let them blend in with his citizens. Like??? Hello?? And don't get my started on the White Lotus but anyway. Aang is thrilled, of course, but things aren't so simple. The Fire Nation colonies are designated as a New 'Air Country' temporarily in order to restore balance with a fourth nation to represent 'freedom' as the Air Nomads once had, but only until Aang and the other airbenders can establish their own nation indefinitely. After that, the colonies will become part of the Earth Kingdom again, but not under the Earth King's rule much like Omashu is in the Earth Kingdom and Kyoshi Island is considered part of the Earth Kingdom, but not beholden to the Earth King. Any Fire Nation loyalists in the colonies can decide to stay where they are or return to the Fire Nation.
Someone in Team Avatar (I personally pick Zuko, but it could be Katara or Aang. Whoever you think would come up with this.) comes up with an idea where one nation hosts a week long festival where people from the other three nations come together to celebrate their different cultures, bending philosophies, etc. It would be like what we have irl with the Olympics but instead of competition, it's just a way to teach citizens in each nation about other countries, and it would rotate every year, following the avatar's life cycle pattern (water, earth, fire, and air). Most of the money made during these week long festivals would go to any and all war refugees: airbenders, the southern water tribe, and earth kingdom refugees. Despite whoever comes up with the idea, it's Katara who takes over allocating funds to refugees. (I'm definitely interested in getting feedback for this one because idk if it's good or not so please let me know what you think. Again, I just ask that you be courteous please and thanks.)
The Fire Nation did have some resistence rising up in the later years of the war, mainly a group that was tired of the fighting and questioning the reasons for it. They were a small minority and were too scattered to collectively rebel against the Fire Lord, but they really rose in numbers after the day of Black Sun and the invasion.
Iroh left his tea shop in capable hands in Ba Sing Se so he could be Zuko's advisor back in the Fire Nation. In the finale, they were there just to celebrate their victory with the rest of Team Avatar before returning.
#avatar the last airbender#atla#aang#katara#zuko#team avatar#no ships involved in this one please leave them at the threshold thank you#well except Ozai/Ursa but other than that -shush- 🤫 lol#i might add more later but this should do for now.

Squid Memes Squidbeak Splatoon (part 2)
Part 1 Here
More Harbor because he gave me Brain Worms
Born and Raised in Littol Beeg Bluff (yes the same Littol Beeg Bluff from "The Ballad of Dusty Grumpton" in the Factory Reset AU. I'm allowed to re-use my own ideas if I damn well please)
Comes from a blended family, and his stepmom and younger siblings (twin boy and girl around eight) are actually Koopa Troopas of all things.
The only playable Agent to both know and like his parents
Seriously Habor's moms are fucking awesome. Everybody in the NSS loves Harbor's moms
About 80% Humboldt Squid (aka Jumbo Flying Squid), which is why he's so fucking tall. It also means that he's really fast in swim form, to the point that he could probably outswim someone who'd filled all the slots on a piece of gear with Swim Speed Up without any Swim Speed Up investment of his own. (this is inspired by Lucky, another, very different version of Agent 4 made by EikaPrime on Ao3)
Eight
Yes she just goes by Eight. She was a little self-conscious about it at first but then she found out about SMG4 and the other SM64 Blooper Youtubers and no longer gives a shit
If she remembers her old name yet she's not mentioned it
Obviously doesn't remember her parents, but given the Domes are the kind of place where you can Start Training to Become an Advanced Military Hardware Engineer and Elite Soldier at Fucking Nine Years Old, I imagine she wouldn't have many memories of them even without the Amnesia
Contrary to popular fanon, my version of Eight doesn't have a scar from the Test Failed Bomb. This is because Respawn Pads (as long as they're fully functional) completely erase whatever the fatal injury was, leaving no trace apart from maybe some phantom pains if it was particularly nasty
She does, however, have plenty of scars from all the other shit she went through in that hellhole
Managed to complete every single test before she escaped
My version of Eight is a single year younger than Marina canonically is when they meet so I'm not going the Off the Hook Adoption route for this one (maybe in another AU with a more lose interpretation of Canon, but given this AU is specifically meant to adhere to Splatoon Canon as much as possible we're out'a luck this time), though she does still become very close friends with them
She's got Craig literally right there for any potential adoption attempts anyway
Very rarely speaks, but is expressive enough that most people can tell what she means anyway (you know Ferb? It's the exact same thing as what Ferb does)
Doesn't have a weapon preference. She's comfortable with any weapon she gets her hands on
Except Splatanas
She fucking hates Splatanas and everything they stand for
Configuring Frye's Palette in the Memverse was legitimately harder than dealing with her own Palette's stupid "Hacks or Chips, you can't have both" Gimmick Bullshit
Andi Finn
Has no fucking idea who her parents were and does not care
Actual supergenius who could probably build a functioning replica of Grizz's rocket out of scrap metal from just her memory of fighting on top of it. Never learned how to read before the NSS got ahold of her because she lived alone in the desert
Swears more than Bob
Can't remember where she learned Salmonid from
Somehow even the homeless kid has better hygiene than Paige
Made up her last name on the spot when she was signing up for a Turfing License (if you're wondering how she managed to sign up for a Turfing License when she couldn't read; With Great Difficulty)
Figures she probably isn't a full Inkling given her weird beartrap beak but doesn't give enough of a shit to take a DNA test about it
Yet
Paige dragged her home to their apartment almost immediately after the final battle against Mr. Grizz and she never left. It's not an official adoption but that's only because Paige is a bit oblivious to their own feelings on the matter and Andi doesn't know that paperwork is supposed to be involved
Almost exclusively calls Paige "Cap" even when they're out of uniform. I mean, she can't very well call them "Mom" or "Dad" since they're nonbinary, now can she? Paige has no idea that's what she means by it and just thinks it's a nickname because Andi gives everybody nicknames. Usually as insults
It took her 333 tries to get through "Splitting Crosshairs" (I legitimately Cannot beat that stupid kettle no matter how hard I try and want her to share my frustration but also want all four agents to have 100%ed their respective adventures so I'm just having it take her a comically long time to do)
Mains Explosher because it's the closest she can get to a Turf-Legal grenade launcher (for now...)
The Eternal Hunger, Devourer of the Bear
Is fine with people using Crabcake instead
Uses It/Its exclusively
Officially designated Agent 5 I will die on that hill
Was "The Eternal Hunger, Stabber of Ankles" before going through Return of the Mammalians
Will stab anyone who points out that it didn't actually eat Mr. Gizz, he just exploded
Extremely eloquent, but most people can't speak Salmonid so it just sounds like it's making the same gurgley noises as every other Smallfry
Once looked Marie dead in the eyes and said "No one will ever believe you" in perfect Inklish while they were alone. Has never said anything else in anything other than Salmonid where someone can hear it
Andi and Crabcake fucking hated each-other for the first third of their adventure before bonding over kicking Frye's ass and now they're inseparable
Actually gets its own uniform after everything's said and done. It consists of a little high-rez safety vest (like the one on Paige's field uniform), an earpiece (suction-cupped in place since it doesn't have external ears) in the same style as Andi's headset, and a clean black-with-thin-yellow-racing-stripes-on-the-sides pants...wrap...thing
It also got a new switchblade from Sheldon (the old one got lost in the space battle after it turned into Hugefry) with the same kind of black-with-blue-LEDs aesthetic as Paige's gear and a blade made of Sardinium
Also thinks that it and Andi are already adopted by Paige but that's for Salmonid Culture Reasons instead of Not Having an Education Reasons
Got separated from its swarm during a Run a few months before Return of the Mammalians. It wasn't too fussed about it and figured it could handle itself in the desert for a while and then either reunite with that swarm if it ran into them or join a new one if it happened to come across one. Because Salmonid Culture
Considers the NSS its current swarm
#i wish squid memes were real au#octo expansion#side order#return of the mammalians#new squidbeak splatoon#agent 4#harbor current#agent 8#eight splatoon#neo agent 3#andi finn#little buddy#agent 5#crabcake the smallfry#freaks(affectionate). all of them#paige is kind of a dumbass when it comes to their own emotions#andi may not know how paperwork works YET but given they're now part of a goverment agency they'll unfortunately learn pretty quick#not sure what (if anything) i'll have harbor's dad be like#but i'm leaning towards “great guy who's unfortunately currently Fucking Dead”#i like the oth adopts eight fanon as much as the next guy (as seen in one or two of my oth-related posts) but it just doesn't work here

Hi I read your post about the bat boys dynamics, now how the fandom been handling it for years been pissing me off as someone in a blended family.
Now I have a step-turned adopted brother, him and I meet when he was 4 and I was 9. We’re currently estranged, but for the most part it took me….I want to say a year to see him as my brother properly. Not saying I hated him, but to form a bond.
Now the problem with the bat boys, well I want to say Damian histories with them in general. Is writers BARELY gives depth into their bonds and most of the time it seem meaningless. Vs how you and even Arabian batboy pointed out how their bonds with female characters seem more fleshed out as the writers put effort in making their bonds…for the most part…looking at you Williamson.
I am no eugenic, but there a difference between my bond with bio sister vs my bonds with adopted siblings
My issues is how the Batfamily fandom try to force a nuclear family dynamic into the Batclan…when writers clearly show that half of the time they see them as a militia vs a found family.
Oh and the writers personal bias, like in Gotham war where Tim told Damian he always saved Bruce vs the latter only fighting him….is there any goddamn archives at dc for writers to check up on characters lore?
Sorry I just want to air this out, because this bat brothers fanon been driving me up the wall. They are brothers on paper, but none of them are each other keepers if that make sense?
I think it makes sense. I'm sorry to hear about your estrangement.
And yeah a lot of time fandom wants to act as if the fact that they're all adopted (or biologically related) to Bruce on paper means that they'd have the exact same relationship people might have if they grew up together in the same house, but like... that's a drastically over-simplified thing. like i remember getting into an argument* with someone who was adamant that Damian should fanboy or look up to Tim b/c Tim is his older brother and people do that stuff IRL. But like... a) not everyone does b) Damian did not actually live in the same house as Tim, his dynamic was not the same as someone who grew up with an older brother, they clearly had many canon interactions indicating the opposite!
and also like: Obviously you shared your experience with how long it took you to form a bond, and realistically it would also take Damian time to form a bond. If his interactions are antagonistic, like they are with Tim, it would take work for them to get close, and panel time we do not see. This isn't to say they can't consider each other brothers, we see evidence at least Tim considers Damian his little brother and Damian's no longer antagonistic to him** and respects him some, but they definitely wouldn't have a super close bond like we see Damian have with Maya or Dick.
And yeah so many of the writers have personal bias its cringe to read. Except like. I have never seen Tim portrayed really negatively in Damian's comics. In general, it's to put Damian down. I analyzed it in general here (link)
And like. WRT personal experiences I'm sure there are some people who view their adopted siblings as similar to their bio siblings... but also WRT not simplifying everything -- that doesn't mean it's the same for everyone, and it definitely doesn't mean that that means every single Batfam member who is adopted by Bruce has the same relationship that people who are all raised in the same house in general at the same time, since they were babies might have. Like it'd be oversimplifying and trying to flatten out dynamics to act as if that's how it did happen.
Also if you are the same blended family anon as earlier, I do want to say I got a long anon ask from you ages ago but forgot to answer it sorry :C then I couldn't tell if too long had passed and it was weird to answer it
*act surprised, I was in an argument /j
**current canon shows more evidence for Tim being antagonistic to Damian than vice versa.

please get into your aa2 rant i beg
Oh thank god someone (idk if it’s rude to tag ? Or to not tag ?) reblogged that post from me saying some great stuff and also saying to go into my aa2 rant and I didn’t know how to reply, like do I reblog from them again, but then that might annoy the op, or do I make a post and tag them but then that might be weird— I don’t understand tumblr etiquette. Even though I’ve been here for years. But yeah whether you are that person in which case hi !! Or another person in which case also hi !! Thanks you solved my problem
How do I start. Basically, I don’t agree with a lot of the fanon surrounding Edgeworth’s "death", mostly in the way that it’s basically all about Phoenix. When the fandom talks about how evil and terrible Edgeworth was for that, I mostly just see Phoenix being brought up, when to me it’s a lost worse for Franziska. To her, her brother disappeared because of what her father did and after learning he used similar tactics as him (the tactics they must have been taught), deciding to kill the prosecutor in him (a major part of their identity and their relationship), abandoning her again, something that is a huge issue for her (aai2 spoilers under the cut)
Her world is in prosecution, their family is in prosecution, and as far as I remember she has issues over Edgeworth leaving her behind to pursue his career at 20, though I can’t remember when that’s discussed, I hope it’s not fanon blending into canon in my memory. What I’m trying to say is, Edgeworth’s fake death had a huge and deep impact on her, and is a very important step in her character
Anyway in short, I find it disappointing ig that most discussion of the repercussions of Edgeworth’s absence is about how Phoenix is so sad his boyfriend is gone and rarely ever about her. General issue across all fandoms to obsess over a male character and leave a female character behind. I go more into the Phoenix stuff under the cut bc I also have a rant about that and I’ve started and I can’t shut up now lol. Tldr Phoenix is deeply flawed and I love him for it and I wish we talked more about his flaws
I mean this is how she reacts when Edgeworth gives up his badge
I sound very negative of Phoenix’s part in this lol— I’m not, how it affects Phoenix is SO important, which is something I’m very passionate about and is… another thing I mostly disagree common fanon with sorry. Phoenix feels very much like the fandom golden boy in a way ? He’s our perfect little guy who has never done anything wrong. And yeah he is my perfect little guy who has never done anything wrong, but actually no he’s my really imperfect little guy who has definitely done wrong
Aa2 is the game that made me fall in love with him, because of how it goes into his flaws. He can be a dick who lashes out, he can be really bitter and angry, and his idea of justice is/was incredibly black and white. I find Phoenix’s character writing in aa2 just brilliant and it saddens me that it gets reduced to "he was really sad about edgeworth". I mean he was and it’s a massive part of his character writing but I don’t see much discussion on the character part beyond the saviour complex thing. Which is great but Justice for All is about, you know. Justice for all. It’s not perfect, I wish the concept of guilty clients was explored more afterwards beyond evilest man alive Matt engarde, the closest we get is aa4 with clients that are guilty of other crimes but still deserve proper defense instead of being dismissed, but I’m getting off topic. Phoenix’s black and white thinking being challenged and him learning he was wrong is so important, but I feel like we’re allergic to discussing the negative parts of Phoenix or something ? Like I said he’s the fandom golden boy. And I get why but the parts of him that suck are the parts that made me adore him and ig I’m disappointed it’s rarely acknowledged or analysed so he can remain our perfect little boy who’s just obsessed with his school crush. Sorry to be such a negative Nancy lol but yeah. Phoenix is such a well rounded deeply flawed character, aa2 has such great writing and so worth analysing, but like all fandoms we have "shipping first and foremost" on the brain
ALSO. Phoenix and Franziska’s arcs are so intertwined the Parallels how they’re both representative of different types of idealism and what loss can do to you and yet are also so similar. They’re soooo aahnnbgbgngcjkn. I’ll just put these here again. Thank you Acro for understanding them
For the record I’m not saying analysis through ship is bad, or that shipping is bad, if you’ve seen my blog at all you’ve seen lots of ship stuff— I just have a general tiredness of ships being the main focus of everything ig lol. I’m stopping now it’s 2am and I can tell this has gone into completely incoherent rambling, I hope this made sense and was fun to read !
#general my post tag#my bad for how it gets probably nonsensical towards the end#I just need to go to bed sorry 😔

Headcanons for BEN?
Okay so BEN is kinda tricky for me since I haven’t fully finished the BEN ARG but I do know some stuff by peaking around the Jadusable Wiki! So spoilers for the BEN ARG lol
(Also thank you for the asks and likes, I really appreciate it! :>)
My version of BEN is not fully finished/cemented yet which is why he’s kinda a toughy for me but I believe I have enough to answer this ask! Some stuff in here will likely either be incorrect or timed weirdly from his canon info so apologies in advance for that. My version of him is an attempt as blending fanon and canon:
BEN, if you know from the BEN ARG, is a collection of ghosts that got sacrificed by the Moon Children and “huddled” together (for a lack of a better term). In my AU, this is a type of ghost called a “Hivemind”
Ben (the kid who drowned) was the first to be sacrificed by the cult which is why the Hivemind is named after him (Yes I know that BEN stands for Behavioral Event Network)
He is the leader of the BEN Hivemind, it’s basically him that’s always in control and making decisions
He’s also the reason why the Hivemind looks like an edgy Link outside of the cartridge, he wanted to be like his favorite hero thus that’s how BEN’s appearance manifested
Later on (in a future event in my AU), Ben gets “kicked out” of BEN and gets basically locked inside the cartridge. He loses all contact with the Pastas and BEN’s appearance changes from the classic edgy Link to the weird green-haired kid
BEN has cuffs shackled on their wrists and its chains floated around them because Ben was chained down to the pool that he drowned in
Ben is quite good friends with a bunch of the Gamepastas, I see them as a group of chaotic friends not quite unlike a group of unruly teenagers sometimes
So I had made a fan-made backstory for him however I’m still not sure if I wanna add it for sure since I’m not sure if it will interfere with his canon info thus far. The backstory (in summary) goes that Ben grew up with only his dad and he was really into soccer. When Ben got really into Majora’s Mask, his dad was sad that he stopped playing soccer and encouraged to play outside again. Ben didn’t want to make his dad disappointed so he decided to go outside since a while to practice again. Being out in the open and alone in the park, the cult managed to kidnap him
In attachment to that fan-made backstory, some of the ghosts in BEN could’ve been his classmates. Some of the other ghosts were also either Ben’s age or slightly younger and/or older than him
I might’ve missed a few things but here’s what I have thus far as my memory goes, thanks for the ask! :D

The Sonic Series' kitchen sink elements are really... well, "kitchen sink" is a good way to put them. You got Shadow's backstory over here, characters stuck in particular eras or mediums, humans in some games but not others, etc, etc.
All that to ask this: how do you go about harmonizing the desperate elements of StH's various incarnations without doing what Frontiers did?
The short pithy funny answer is 'will it blend?'
The longer answer is. I think a lot of big long-running legacy franchises like Sonic, that have a zillion different branches and continuities and different this-and-thats that sometimes contradict each other and have about eighteen versions of the same story at any given time- think also most superhero media- are really, really fun to get into. People dread and fret if a particular incarnation is mediocre or too weird for their tastes, but I think the fun part of it is there's something worthwhile and interesting in almost all of these. Like I personally don't care for Sonic Chronicles very much at all, but I like Shade's visual design and I thought the alien designs were pretty neat, even if I don't think their lore fits well into the bigger Sonic universe and for the most part disregard them.
And there are zero consequences to me doing so! Basically, the franchise is your oyster. Take what you love and mix it up. This is why my personal longstanding Sonic AU has been what it is- it's not an exercise in me feeling like I'm "fixing the canon" because that's silly, it's not broken, but rather just making myself a fun smoothie out of the bits I really like.
It is so, so, so fun to me, to be in a world where stuff like Sonic Unleashed exists, that we can go, "yeah there was a whole game where Sonic was just a werewolf. yes he also had stretchy arms". The works both official and fannish that I've enjoyed the most tend to be ones that aren't afraid of being a little silly or digging into "worse" installments of the franchise to play with them.
I think it's very important that the Sonic series isn't afraid to be silly. At the end of the day it is a story about hedgehogs in running shoes fighting evil robot armies. This premise is never going to be stodgy and respectable and it doesn't need to be. It absolutely has it within itself to tell both serious and silly stories, and mix them together.
To also answer your question about reconciling, honestly, being willing to take a bunch of silly stuff from odd franchises and glue them together to make a more complete picture works wonders. Like, in pre-reboot archie comics- I'm talking back in the gag-a-day bizarre early stories- they just threw in a worldbuilding detail that Mobius has a colossal number of moons full of weird stuff; when the games have established Little Planet, Lost Hex, and Space Colony ARK as things floating around Mobius's general vicinity, taking that otherwise forgettable detail would line up a bunch of different things, and it lets me be cheeky about the thing where in the game canon, there's a blatant continuity error with the moon having a hole shot in it back in Adventure 2 and then in Shadow The Hedgehog, a game that heavily references the plot of Adventure 2, the full moon is very prominently featured.... with no missing chunk whatsoever. I can go, well, in my personal fanon, that's just a completely different moon!
#Sonic the Hedgehog#I firmly choose to interpret most media on a 'holy shit two cakes' model#I would rather mediocre and weird art exists than No Art in the same location#it's a lot easier to play with a lot of mediocre and/or weird stuff than it is to play with one or two Perfect Things that have nothing els#not that I do not respect art that has that kind of precision!#but it's a very different kind of fun to have#this franchise is a sandbox and I have brought my buckets and shovels and those fun little castle-shaped molds

in response to that comment on a03-
As someone who's been knee deep in the star wars fandom, and is currently in DC's chokehold, bloodletting is such a nice blend of the two universes and I really love it so much! O appreciate all the hard work you've put in to include the mando'a and the translations, and it's actually started to help me learn the language without needing the translations. thank you so much for a wonderfully written story that includes so much wonderful things from both universes, and for the work you do to make the world feel more rounded and real
Thank you so much! ❤️ I really love writing and learning the mando’a translations, to the point I’m kind of semi-fluent in the written language at this point. Or it certainly feels like it 😅
A lot of work has gone into making mando’a a functional fanon/canon language. There’s entire forums about conjugating and the creation of new words. It’s fascinating to me.
As I said, I know the translations aren’t everyone’s cup of tea! That’s okay, I don’t hold that against anyone. I wouldn’t ding someone for dropping a GOT book because the Dothraki was too weird to get into, for example.
But please be nice to authors who do extra html/css for fic functions or appearances (footnotes, endnotes, hover text, etc) because it’s hard! It takes extra work on top of writing the story!

MOBILE-FRIENDLY GUIDELINES
Do
Send ic asks and memes! You are never bothering me with these, no matter how many.
Talk to me about your ideas for ships, threads, plots, etc. You may come into my inbox or DMs at any time, day or night. I LOVE hearing from my rp partners :)
Write me starters and tag me in stuff if you’re compelled to (provided it doesn’t break one of the below rules).
Don’t
Ask me about my day, my life, or anything overtly personal. I make exceptions for good buddies of mine, but I can’t stand it when people I don’t know from Adam start prying. I am in a bad situation that I can’t get out of; it burns when I have to be reminded of that. I’d rather not have to lie, ignore, or make something up just to satisfy someone, you know?
Reblog memes from me if we haven’t interacted. Please use the source whenever possible.
Say ‘Hi’ or [insert generic greeting]. Again, this doesn’t apply to my close friends. You KNOW who you are.
Ask me if I want to rp with you. If you wish to start writing with me, I expect you to do the leg work. Also, I expect you to have read my rules beforehand.
Expect romantic ships with Harry Warden or Soldier Boy; Harry is single ship with @pasiphaedemetriadevil’s Isis, and Soldier Boy aka Ben is single ship with @lovelylostminds’s Charlotte as female muses go and selective with male muses.
Fetishise LGBTQA+, religiousness, children/youth, or animals.
Send me random pics of my muse(s) faceclaim(s) or give me updates on their activities. I am am aware of the fact that I’m weird for being this way, but actors as themselves ooc trigger me really badly.
Use imagery of spiders or spider-esque things in our interactions ic or ooc. Even stylized ones will not be tolerated.
Talk about abusing animals or use animal-abusing imagery ic or ooc.
Wincest or Destiel. I don’t ship it and I won’t rp it. Platonic is fine. Any pics of Destiel or Cockles will be tagged for shipping partners that play one of the faceclaims involved. I am not endorsing either of the aforementioned ships.
Approach with OCs who are said to be related to Sam or Dean unless heavily discussed and on the condition that I already know you.
Banned fc(s): Danneel Harris, Gen Padalecki, Jonas Brothers, Imogen Poots, K-Pop members, Jack Nicholson, Madelyn Cline
Asterisk roleplay, such as *walks over to the table*. Dialogue for roleplays must be contained within a parameter e.g. quotation marks, brackets, etc. I will not respond if your character is speaking and it blends into the general narrative.
about the mun
Older than 28, GNC, he/they pronouns. Not searching for anything remotely romantic or sexual with my writing partners; I have life-ruining celebrity crusheslike the best of us but in practice I am asexual. However, I do very much enjoy sexual themes and shipping in rps, and I can of course appreciate male and female beauty for what it is, both fictional and real. Unapologetic vegan. I have several disabilities, so please try to be patient with my speech, tone, and overall writing. I am battling SEVERE depression, and I ask you to please bear this in mind when interacting with me ooc. That said, I try my best to be a good friend and writer in the rp community.
While mun ≠ muse, Dean is somewhat of a vicarious character for me, and he and I will share similar views from time to time. This may periodically result in my portrayal not adhering to canon or popular fanon, but do not use this to attack either myself or my muse(s).
I don’t support the canon spn finale in any way, shape, or form.
If I feel I can’t read your replies, grammatically speaking, I’m just going to drop it. Hot potato-style. Same goes if I feel like you’re not giving equal effort to the thread. Oh, and I can’t see those wack formats well.
If I receive too many asks of the same nature, from the same muse, I will simply delete the/certain of the asks at my discretion.
For my own comfort, I will block any and all bloggers who are self-proclaimed ‘Satanists’ (don’t care what the suffix is).
My only hard ‘no’ with any ship is non-con. Obviously will not ship any minor characters.

On a similar note to the previous post, god some LGBT people are so fucking annoying. Like straight people are also annoying, but LGBT act like they’re entitled to it in a personal way while cis/straight people act like their entitled to it because that’s just how it is.
Honestly I don’t mind that LGBT people are annoying because they’ll never be heard if they don’t raise their voices, but it still annoys me. Like you do whatever you want to feel validated and relate to media you want, but also every time I see users call a male character “she/her” because they “headcanon” the character to be trans femme/trans female with absolutely no rational behind it completely unironically, I want to rip the post to shreds and shove a character analysis in their face. It’s one thing if the character has trans coding and the user wants to explore further possibilities. It’s another thing if you’re just shoving them into boxes just because you can. It’s just… at that point you’re just making an OC! Just make an OC! Fanon is so fucking annoying already with how fandoms twist the characters to more palatable versions. Your headcanons are already wrong, and then they toss headcanoning Gender into the mix. Headcanons should be based on canon! Otherwise it’s just an AU. Trans femme characters in an AU are fine, but don’t deluded yourself.
What’s worse is when this translates to real people and RPF fandoms start to “headcanon” real people. I’m not overly bothered by this when I’m purely fictional media, but SMP/MC/YT fandoms are the worst about this because fiction blends so closely into the real people it takes a lot of suspension of disbelief to draw the line. Like piss off and just make an OC. I’m really not telling you what to do, and I can acknowledge that I’m not supposed to criticize your coping mechanisms to your face, but Good God get a fucking life.
The point here is that some LGBT people, especially younger teens, seem to have an us vs them mentality that is just so weird compared to previous generations. Older LGBT were usually personally victimized, but some younger LGBT are straight up delusional and just don’t view straight people as real people sometimes I swear to god. Like, I know this isn’t a universal experience, but I see it frequently enough that it pisses me off.
ECHO CHAMBERS. FUCK SOCIAL MEDIA. GO OUTSIDE. TOUCH GRASS. TALK TO PEOPLE.
EVERYONE IS AN ASSHOLE AND ONCE YOU REALIZE THAT NOT EVERYTHING IS PERSONAL OR POLITICAL SLIGHT AGAINST YOU THE SOONER YOU CAN BE A FUNCTIONAL MEMBER OF SOCIETY, YOU UNDEVELOPED LGBT KAREN.

it’s very weird to me how people think fanon Tim is pathetic and useless when he has skills the canon one never had. (like yes he is a crybaby but he’s neurodivergent you guys be nice to him.)
fanon Tim completely blends into shadows and can practically teleport, is how fast he can disappear. canon Tim is only regular good at hiding, not even as good as Steph most of the time, let alone on par with Cass and better than Bruce.
fanon Tim has pinpoint accuracy with a camera which, I don’t know if you’ve taken distance or moving shots, implies he has some meta level deadeye skill. canon Tim does not seem to know how to use a camera at all anymore. he just uses his phone.
fanon Tim can eat or drink literally anything. I have not actually seen canon Tim try anything of the sort, but if he did, it definitely would not be the kind of garbage the rest of the Batfam feeds fanon Tim.
fanon Tim repeatedly got tied up and imprisoned in tiny boxes by his monster parents, and can Houdini out of practically anything. canon Tim tied up lots in ways that are plot convenient but like also reminiscent of excuses to tie up Wonder Woman you know. like he gets captured a lot is what I’m saying.
fanon Tim can build a car from scratch in three hours, although he usually uses that skill on computers. canon Tim was always a software guy primarily, but also, canon has completely fallen down on anyone building anything in recent memory
fanon Tim has the highest pain tolerance known to man, and is afraid of asking for help so he just works through it. canon Tim has a normal pain tolerance and is pretty good at asking for help, which is not nearly as impressive just because it’s healthier
fanon Tim stalked the streets of Gotham since before he had fully developed fine motor control, managing to hide from literal Batman. canon Tim can’t even stop his neighbors from noticing when Robin shows up next door
fanon Tim is even better at scrapbooking than canon Tim. also why don’t people talk about canon Tim’s canon scrapbooking I mean come on that’s actually a really cute hobby
most importantly, fanon Tim loves Luke but they won’t let canon Tim hang out with Luke because they’re mean

Okay, everyone explains Tim and Danny's likeness as twins separated at birth (after the clone theory had been debunked).
I raise you a: "The Fentons adopted an abandoned alternative universe version of Tim Drake during one of those times the Fentons stumbled into different dimensions during their early ghost hunting days".
Yeah, this theory is even more chaotic than usual, but here's the idea:
So, the Fentons were canonically really weird even before the ghost portal opened, and at least the fanon has latched onto the idea of Jack sending the house to another dimension at least once while Danny was in kindergarten. Which makes it quite likely that said Fentons ended up visiting several alternative universes during their early ghost hunting days (and probably didn't even realize they did).
-.-.-.-
Jack, Maddie and a tiny Jazz were investigating some old ruins rumored to be haunted. They weren't, but the place was a liminal area where several universes overlapped during the right phases of the moon.
Meanwhile we have this alternative universe where the Drakes somehow are both slightly better and much worse parent to tiny toddler Tim. For some reason they actually brought him with them on one of their archeological expeditions (going to those weird liminal ruins) but then promptly forgot that they had and left the kid to wander around on his own.
Tiny Tim toddles around and looks at interesting rocks, waiting for his parents to come back. He's used to waiting and doesn't find it unusual to be left on his own, but he's starting to get hungry now.
The sun sets, the moon rises, and universes overlap. The ruins being the subject of a daytime archaeologic excavation in the Drakes' universe now blend with the abandoned ruins being investigated by ghost hunter Fentons during the night.
The Fentons finds a tiny toddler curled up beneath a broken statue while silently crying. As far as they know the ruins are completely abandoned and in the middle of nowhere, and yet there's a child there. They obviously can't leave the kid in the ruins and takes him with them back to their camp (after making sure he isn't a ghost).
In the morning the Fentons try to find Alt!Tim's parents, but obviously can't since they're in another universe. Tiny Tim is too young to speak clearly and doesn't even know his name properly, so he's not much help. They end up calling him Danny since he answered to that (truthfully Alt!Tim just reacted to their tone of voice) and from now on he's known as Danny).
The hunt for his parents is nothing but dead ends, but the tiny quiet kid grows on the Fenton parents, plus Jazz is ecstatic about having a little brother, so in the end they adopt him.
Danny is a Fenton now, and his strange origin nothing but another quirky anecdote among the other weird things that have happened to the Fentons. No one thinks anything much about it, until Danny moves to Gotham and meets the local Tim...
How the heck will they untangle this extremely weird set of coincidences? Will the bats ever let go of the clone theory? Will an extremely exasperated Danny finally head over to Clockwork and ask him WTF is up with him sharing DNA with Tim Drake?
-.-.-.-

Edit: Dammit, this post has branched. Knew I read a longer version before. Check the reblog list for so much more content.
Is there any way to link together sprawling branched posts like this?
Short DPXDC Prompts #232
Danny starts as a low level intern in Wayne Industries and is very concerned when people keep referring to him as Tim and keep asking him to sign papers and attend meetings that aren’t remotely in his job description.

::: DO NOT REBLOG. Anyone who does will be hardblocked :::
[ While little attention is given to Mikoto’s feelings about the coup in canon, I headcanon her thoughts concerning it to be...complex.
First, concerning the clan’s history:
It’s made clear that, since the founding of Konoha, the Uchiha have been - at times slightly, at times majorly - ostracized by other parts of the village. The lingering distrust between them and the Senju - who, for as long as Konoha has existed, have maintained major power while the Uchiha have had near to none - meant that any chance of things ever completely settling were nearly nonexistent. All Hokage have either been of Senju blood, or had Senju teachings. Hashirama, Tobirama, and Tsunade belong to the clan. Hiruzen was taught by Tobirama, Minato taught by Hiruzen’s student Jiraiya, Kakashi taught by Minato, and Naruto taught by Kakashi (and fathered by Minato). The bias is...extremely evident.
While Hashirama had every intention of bettering the relationship between the clans, his rather early demise shattered that dream...and it only got worse when Tobirama was named Nidaime. Lacking his brother’s idealism and optimism, he tried a more hands-off approach to the Uchiha: he made them the village’s police...while keeping both their district and their new station tucked away in the rear of the village: a physical reminder of how they were very much the ‘others’ when it came to the clans of Konoha. They were also barred from positions of power: they were disallowed from becoming ANBU, the most trusted and highly-skilled warriors of the Hokage seat. Nor were they allowed to hold positions within the council of elders.
This was all in spite of the fact that not a single Uchiha defected to follow Madara in his rebellion against Konoha and Hashirama, choosing instead to remain loyal to the village. Tobirama’s trust could still not be earned.
Hiruzen, also tied to the Senju line as a student of Tobirama’s, was not nearly as anti-Uchiha as his teacher was...but his nevertheless slight bias was still present. Things remained mostly unchanged for the Uchiha for much of his time as Hokage...until the Kyūbi incident. When Obito attacked the birthing team assisting Kushina in delivering Naruto and unleashed Kurama, there was no doubt in anyone’s mind that an Uchiha had to have been involved. And while that was technically true, Obito acted of his own volition, and had no support or knowledge concerning his clan. They hadn’t even known he was still alive.
At the time, most KMPF officers - rather than confront the Kyūbi directly as the shinobi did - instead tasked themselves with the evacuation of the civilians, whom they were most responsible for as the village’s police. This left near to no shinobi witnesses outside the clan that could account for their whereabouts during the attack. Even as Mikoto’s sister Manami lost her leg protecting a family from the beast, and both Mikoto and her husband Fugaku assured Hiruzen that they had nothing to do with the attack, suspicion remained...and conditions for the Uchiha got worse.
Rights - slowly but surely - were squeezed and narrowed for them. A curfew was enacted for the entire clan, their communications outside the village were subject to search, and intelligence was kept from them. Talk began stirring within the Uchiha of a coup, and nearly the entire clan was for it from the beginning. Outliers included Manami - Mikoto’s older sister - and her son Shisui, as well as a few others (including Itachi, unspokenly)...but not nearly enough to halt the talks of rebellion.
Itachi, having shown great promise, was the clan’s first and only ANBU officer ever fully instated. (Canon says that Shisui, too, was ANBU...but he is never shown in their garb. And given Fugaku’s later suspicion of Itachi stemming from his position as ANBU, him asking Shisui of all people - as another ANBU officer - to keep an eye on him makes no sense. Therefore, this blog sees him reach tokubetsu jōnin rank only, not ANBU). This was done purposefully by Hiruzen as a means to offer an olive branch to the clan...but Fugaku immediately used it as a weapon, demanding his son become a double agent, which he agreed to...but in truth, he was a triple agent, working for the village over the clan.
Fugaku, up until that point, had been negotiating on and off with the village - more so in recent months - since the attack by Obito to try and stem the backlash from the village. But every offer and compromise he brought forward was shot down.
This was seen, at the time, as the continued prejudice against the Uchiha, and only served to stoke their fires of rebellion further the more time went on. In truth, nearly all of the extremism present in the proceedings from the attack onward came from Shimura Danzō, who - more than anyone, and at odds with Hiruzen - adopted Tobirama’s anti-Uchiha sentiments.
Those feelings were also coupled with greed over their eyes, having been making secret arrangements with Orochimaru to allow them to continue their research in return for any advancements deemed useful for the councilman, which would later revolve around Hashirama’s cells, and Uchiha eyes. His continued hardlining against the clan was in part due to his bias and belief they were a genuine threat...and a want to take their power for himself. By having the clan killed, he would both eliminate their threat, and receive their eyes for his own personal use. The massacre, from the beginning, was his idea, and his alone. The rest of the council - more partial to Tobirama as well, and therefore often siding with him over Hiruzen - were easily manipulated into following his lead, not knowing the true extent of his motives.
With all of this in mind, Mikoto’s feelings therefore mostly concerned three main factors: the overall well-being of her clan; the safety of her sons; and the circumstances surrounding her friend Kushina’s death.
For the clan, she knew that - given the unrelenting refusal from the village - if they were to have their freedom and their due respect, war was almost inevitable. If Konoha would not listen to reason and continue to treat them like second class citizens in a village they helped found, defend, and remained loyal to even when Madara himself turned his back...then they would resort to force.
On the other hand, she had seen the effect the last war had had on her eldest son. She herself knew the horrors of war. Subjecting Itachi and Sasuke to that was something that weighed heavily on her. As much as she wanted to fight back, she didn’t want their childhoods colored by civil war if they could in any way avoid it. ANBU or not, Itachi was still a child...and Sasuke was barely enrolled in the Academy. Though she gave Fugaku her support, she also begged that he keep trying to salvage the talks for as long as possible...if only for the sake of her boys.
But what had the most weight leaning her into war - a deeply personal feeling of betrayal and anger toward Konoha - came not by blood...but by friendship.
Uzumaki Kushina’s death rattled Mikoto to her very core. The pair had been best friends since their Academy days, and Mikoto trusted no one else as much as she did Kushina, save her sister and - in some regards - her husband. The loss was just as keen as if she’d lost a sister, and she mourned openly for weeks. During that time, having been in the hospital often to visit her sister Manami as she recovered from her amputation, Mikoto spotted baby Naruto within the maternity ward...and she immediately knew he was Kushina’s son. He looked too much like Minato to be mistaken, and the birthdate matched perfectly.
But what confirmed it more than anything was the angry red chakra Mikoto could practically feel calling to her Sharingan: the chakra of the Kyūbi...the demon that had attacked their village, disfigured her sister, killed her best friend...and had changed the lives of her kin forever.
Few had been allowed to know about Kushina’s status as a jinchūriki. Mikoto, even if not technically allowed, had been one of them. Once the secret was out, Kushina confided much in her best friend, including the Uzumaki preference for sealing the beast due to their chakra and sealing techniques.
...first Konoha had let someone steal the Kyūbi and thereby kill her best friend. Then they sealed the beast into her baby, and left him an orphan.
Mikoto wouldn’t stand for it.
She’d gone - after leaving her boys at home - straight to Hiruzen’s office, demanding to adopt the boy. Who else was more suitable than the best friend of his mother? Jiraiya, his godfather, was nowhere to be found, and was hardly in the position to care for a newborn. Mikoto was an experienced mother, and already loved the boy like a son as the child of her closest friend. He didn’t have to grow up alone and ostracized. He had her.
...but the council refused.
And she knew why.
It was their decision that he would remain parentless, alone, and kept ignorant of his past and lineage. There was a loving, familiar family just waiting for him...and the council refused.
It boiled her blood like few things had ever done in her nearly three decades of life. It was then that Mikoto truly realized there would be no overcoming the bias against them. There would be no justice - for them, for those like Naruto...none of it was fair.
So, it was with the weight of her clan’s and her best friend’s son’s lives on her back that Mikoto fully aligned herself with the coup, and saw it through until the end...when her own son cut her down for the sake of a village that would throw him, too, away when the time came. Danzō, Koharu, Homura, and Hiruzen: it was them she cursed just as Itachi’s blade swung.
...she refused to forgive them, even in death. ]
#not so secret anymore [ headcanons ]#the gentle smile [ uchiha mikoto ]#long post#very long post lmao#this is like#a weird blend of canon and fanon#and by now idek what's which xD#but uh#i guess either way this is how she works in ALAS by default#aus can see it change tho!#like verses where kushina lives#nonmass verses#etc etc

Ask and you shall receive! Lemme explain some reasonings- also this is going to get long so I'll put it under a cut!
Thank you for the asks anon, @sisididis, and @helian-skies! 💙
For 🇵🇹:
He didn't get enough screen time and I am mad about it, same applies to many characters!! But him especially!! Give me MORE PORT!! I quite enjoy his design a lot because more characters need long hair.. but I also need Hima to draw him with his fucking hair down please it's all I ask!!! But also his design is weird (mostly in the anime) because they twinked him up. Hima make up ur mind you drew this man so fucking beefy put more meet on him!! I would marry him if he was real no balls (if he's human.. nationverse is complicated and I would be terrified of an immortal hottie ok)
For 🇪🇸:
He's so fucking stoopid I love him but also I legit don't know how to feel about him yk? Like,, I've been in this fandom for years and he's basically been my fave for so long, but at the end of the day I cannot describe him crystal clear. He's strange and I want more content from Hima of him, tho he has more content than some characters I still wish for more in-depth stuff! Mooore!! I'd marry him if I could but also nationverse strikes again.
For both:
They're extremely complex characters in my mind, not only just from what we know in canon but also from peer and personal interpretation! I think these two can easily be made morally grey, and that's extremely important when exploring their history. Like I don't think they're awful individuals, but fiction is an endless space and people tend to have their own fun. I make them assholes here and little shits there, but I don't think they're downright evil. Humans are complex, and Nationverse is the last situation I would consider them NOT be difficult to pin down. Antonio is mentioned to be two-faced, which is something I enjoy exploring a lot because there is no way with his history his happiness and obliviousness isn't some sort of coping mechanism he chooses to use rather than a natural thing. Also, my views on these two are not superior to anybody else's btw I just thought it would be funny to put that since I do deal with my own interp the most! Other people's interps are so fucking good okay (I am looking at you two!!)
But at the same time, I also hate the majority of fanon's interp over the years. Making Port some weirdo with a victim complex confuses me a lot looking at how absolutely stubborn this poor fucker is in my mind, but I do believe he would have depression issues and some form of imposter syndrome. But he's not weak and he doesn't see himself as a poor sod, he can acknowledge in some situations he's helpless and in others he can solve them. Older nations are stubborn and hate asking for help, I don't doubt he hates it lmao. But yeah kinda over the whole "poor Port" thing he can be a dick when the situation calls for it! This can apply to Antonio too, he's not a pathetic little shit either but they both have their moments obviously
And with Spain.. don't get me started on him. Please. I know his obliviousness is canon, but obliviousness doesn't equate to stupid and they make him so ignorant like there's just no way in hell. I know he may not read social situations well, but he sure as fuck knows how to read people (all except Port from what I'm seeing haha but that's a different situation). Spanish people are relatively blunt, but he wouldn't say something so awfully rude it would hurt somebody unless he intended it to lol. And he seems like the kind of person to be extremely smart with the things he enjoys! Canon kinda supports that as well, but it's a very recent development with the trivia thing being a new strip reveal but hshdjc you get my point hopefully!
Also the idea that they're related gets on my nerves sometimes because over 3/4ths of the people I've seen headcanon that get ignorant with it (as in, they culture blend and don't actually differentiate between Spanish and Portuguese people and are SUPER disrespectful! Also the name Carriedo doesn't exist in Portuguese at least be a little bit accurate if ur giving them the same names lol) Those who do it and aren't wild with it tho? I adore seeing all dynamics between the two. Go ham! Just be more kind and try not to make Spanish and Portuguese people out to be a monolith and also listen to them pls they would know a thing or two!!
On a more personal note, the they're literally me thing is a complete joke because I have hazel green eyes and brown hair lmfao. Depending on when I cut my hair I can make myself resemble them relatively easy with the exception of glasses because I'm blind as fuck hahaha. I also project onto them a lot because I project on all of my characters. I make them both Bi and mentally complex in some sort of way!! They're both impulsive and stubborn like me, and Antonio in my heart has ADHD to the max. Port has my weird affinity with the sea and the color blue while Antonio my obsession with fire and the color red. Just little things, they're obviously not me in the slightest but I give them elements of myself because I am controlling them in a fictional environment, and because it helps me cope knowing they can be liked and have similarities with me (I have,, unfortunate self esteem issues lmao) so yeah I just really adore them and I also replicate their characters as well. I will be honest in saying I project more on Antonio than Port tho hdhrjf- If I'm kind like Antonio and calm like Port, maybe I'll be liked more ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Just like them, I am a complex individual as well. We all are, humans are fucking nuts and it's fun to think about- also as you can see I'm mentally ill as fuck about them so not much explanation needed there LMAOO
Sorry for the long rant but I was really happy to have answered this!! Thank you for the asks dears 💙💙💙
#Sincerely sorry if it @s you all multiple times 😭#I just want it to fucking woRk aa#Feel free to comment on my ideas n share your own!! Asks are always open and I like friendly discussions!!#I fear this hitting the main tags but I need to stay organized#So if any onlookers are from the tags also feel free to add ur thoughts but be nice about it pls n ty 😭#aph spain#aph portugal#hetalia#personal#ask game

what are ur thoughts... on helia's relationship with masculinity? his earlier wardrobe was softer colors and peasant blouses and his (beautiful, beautiful T^T) hair was kept long. obviously we know that shit slapped even if the show wont acknowledge it now. his look always made him super distinct from the rest of the guys, but i feel like that may have also been an alienizing factor? red fountain is a military school and i promise im not asking for your take on gender roles or toxic masculinity of the entire magic dimension or to write helia a planet and culture and backstory from scratch (unless? 👀, bc your takes are always fascinating), but do you think he was ever taken with that, or felt subject to other's opinions on that sort of thing? has he always been comfortable with his presentation, or did he have any clumsy teenage overcompensating? if the latter, would you say leaving red fountain helped him come to terms with that or reinvent himself to his tastes? or maybe had him overcorrecting in the opposite direction, to distance himself from the red fountain lifestyle as well as account for his two haircuts and more traditionally masculine style later on?
anon i'm in love with you.
I have so many thoughts about Helia's overall aesthetic (and some about his concept designs heheh) but I won't get into all of them since that would make this way too long. To be honest, within canon we don't know a lot about Helia's personal thoughts about Red Fountain or the culture surrounding it and other military/paramilitary establishments. While this does make it harder for people to give him a solid characterization, it actually makes a lot of sense considering how quiet he is in terms of his own thoughts on things. We have random tidbits and rumors from other characters but almost nothing from him.
When it comes to his looks in canon, honestly I don't think it would ever be an issue. While long hair on men is stigmatized in real life, in Winx Club it's not that big of a deal, in fact, it's pretty normal. We see multiple male characters with long hair and not typically considered masculine wardrobes. Saladin, Palladium, Avalon, Valtor, and even background Specialists are just a few examples. Longer hair on men is a normal thing throughout all of the planets and only seems to be weird on Earth (ie Sky and Helia cutting their hair to blend in). While I do have a lot of thoughts on Helia's hair, I really doubt it was ever an issue in canon. It's only an area of topic in the fandom due to a couple of things that don't factor into canon (such as men having long hair being stigmatized in real life or the rumors that Helia was originally a female character [with absolutely no proof of that besides his long hair and slightly more feminine looking face]).
I think when it comes to Helia feeling out of place, it would likely have more to do with his personal interests, aka art, and not necessarily wanting to be a Specialist. Contrary to fanon, Helia likes being a Specialist and we know he respects Saladin and Red Fountain as a whole. Him leaving was largely due to being more interested in art than the "family business" so to speak. It's shown multiple times in canon that Helia feels a lot of pressure from being related to Saladin and that his own actions and opinions affect both Saladin and the school (which says a lot about how the Magix Dimension feels about families and relations). His back and forth between being a Specialist and being an artist have to do with him not wanting to disappoint Saladin or affect his image in a negative way.
We do know that other Specialists and people outside of the school have opinions about him and what he does but we don't actually know how he feels about that or how he deals with it. It gets brought up quite a few times; random people who aren't close to him talking shit for no reason (Brandon in ep.8, Riven multiple times in the comics, other random specialists, etc), and yet, Helia's own feelings about the matter never get revealed. Again, I think this plays into how quiet he is about his own emotions, not wanting to start shit or get into a fight that could later damage Red Fountain's image.
In that way, you could say Helia deals with some amount of rejecting masculinity, but personally, I think his actions have more to do with feeling like he needs to have a "good" image because of his familial relations. Helia doesn't start conflict, he doesn't push things or engage in arguments, he's extremely conscious about how his actions affect Saladin and the school (he even uses this to his advantage in the Shaab Stone arc). We don't know the extent of how much people talk about him, behind his back or to his face, and we don't the extent of how much it affects him.
Personally, I think Helia is conscious enough to have dealt with toxic masculinity, specifically trying to get away with it, earlier in his life. While Red Fountain is a paramilitary school, it's shown explicitly that they don't tolerate that attitude and try to knock it out of any boy that enters (aka don't start dumb fights, don't insult your teammates, don't do dumb shit to prove your worth, etc). The only reason the main boys managed to stay in the school is that they're canonically the best students and Codatorta believed in them (also cause yknow,, they're the love interests).
While the Magix Dimension definitely has some degree of toxic masculinity, Helia in particular mostly battles with toxic perfectionism and family legacy. He's not consciously or subconsciously trying to be the ideal version of a man nor does he base his life or opinions of himself on that. Helia tries to be the perfect Specialist and the perfect grandson. He tries to be the perfect student in a school that's largely associated with the best soldiers in the universe and that's also run by his grandpa, while also dealing with his own actions and opinions affecting the image of said grandpa and school. So honestly, no, I don't think Helia particularly gets affected by masculinity, toxic or otherwise, and I don't think any of his actions in canon could be led by it. However, I do think he's in an awkward situation and tries too hard to live up to other people's (and his own) expectations of him and that some of those expectations can run into the "ideal" version of masculinity (such as Brandon saying "he doesn't like to get his hands dirty" as an insult).
While I do love the idea of Helia going through a little teenage rebellion and him going to art school being a result of that, in canon, it's partially implied that he really didn't change. Saladin sees him as the same person and the specialists recognize who he is. There is no "whomst the fuck are you" kind of moment with any of the characters. This is more implied by canon than directly shown but, I do think that Helia was one of those people who had to mature quickly as a kid. And that him leaving Red Fountain multiple times is mostly him trying to get away from those expectations. We see this theme with multiple characters so I don't think it's a wild conclusion.
When it comes to his haircuts and different aesthetics, I think that's mainly Rainbow mucking things up. His aesthetic change in S4 is so they can blend in, it's not him being himself. Even when their identities get revealed and everyone knows they aren't from Earth, they're still trying to fit in and live within that Earth culture. His changes in the later seasons are largely due to Nickelodeon not understanding the characters and just wanting a group of masculine soldier dudes.
Unpopular opinion but: I think a better way of showing how out of their element the specialists were in S4, would actually be to cut Helia's hair super short, not just the uneven shreds he got, and then have him grow it out through the season (maybe even magically like they did with Musa) to show that they're chill on Earth and people aren't scared of them. Is this an excuse for me to imagine him with a wolf cut? Yes.
