(i don't think we've ever actually interacted before so kind of scared to send off anon but. it really resonated i would <3 to chat)

disclaimer to begin with that i will be he/himming anakin for most of this because that is how he is canonically referred to and i’m mainly talking about the text itself and public perception here. constant conundrum when i write these kinds of posts unfortunately

a huge part of why i wanna talk about this headcanon in excruciating detail all the time is that i feel like a lot of people love doing the “he’s a woman to me” shtick (and its many variations) without any actual interest in exploring how that character would feel about gender or how their transness would interact with their arc and the narrative and i just find that to be a bit of a bummer. especially with a character like anakin! because there’s nothing super obvious or intentional (that’s particularly interesting at least) about how these characters relate to gender in the movies but there’s this two-fold thing going on with anakin where so much of his arc is narrowly missing at getting what he wants (the most monumental miss being missing out on living publicly and happily with his wife who he’s not allowed to have because of his religion mind you) and on a meta level people responded to his character with visceral hatred bc of how he failed to live up to their expectations of masculinity for a male protagonist. a trans reading kind of writes itself honestly. and anakin is also a character with a pretty broken sense of self to boot, a character whose entire arc in the prequels culminates in him taking on a name he didn’t even choose and becoming unrecognizable to even himself and generally being completely hollowed out for the next two decades. but even before that he kinda lives entirely for other people and grounds who he is in relation to them and is afraid of himself and that’s what makes it so easy for him to be able to get to the point where he ends up to begin with. his one harbor that allows him to be truly fully himself is his relationship with padmé, and that’s a relationship that has to be repressed and can only flourish in the shadows and whose long-term survival rested on afters and maybes. and all-in-all this makes anakin feel like someone who never fully self-actualized because he never got the chance and when i see all that i just cannot help but relate it back to what it feels like to deny or repress your own queerness but way more specifically your own transness.

and like i said earlier it’s also very interesting in a meta way because of how much of the initial negative response to anakin as a character was weirdly informed by homophobia and misogyny despite this character being a Straight Dude. like, the clone wars’s whole approach to making him more likable was literally just making him more traditionally masculine (even superficially! the character model looks nothing like hayden christensen whose features are quite soft). so these movies aren’t trying to tell you that anakin is failing miserably at being a man but when the public perception was Like That for so long it’s really hard for that to be a non-factor in how he’s perceived. and it’s not thee reason for any headcanon or even an important one but it certainly becomes part of it. especially because just in general anakin in the films comes off as viscerally uncomfortable existing and why can’t gender be a part of that. we don’t know! she probably doesn’t know! she’s busy!

Undertale!Bros, Underfell!Bros, & Underswap!Bros with an insecure S/O

UT!Sans

Sans makes it his mission to make you laugh as much as possible every day. He's jumping on every opportunity to make stupid jokes to pick your mood up.

When you make a negative comment about yourself, he's complimenting an extremely specific and goofy aspect of you in rebuttal.

"I hate the way this shirt looks on me." "but your eyebrows are very even."

He would show you how much your organs go for on the black market and be like "see? you're pretty damn priceless."

He does little things to make sure you're taking care of yourself.

He always makes a double order of fries at restaurants even when you say you don't want anything. He helps pick outfits for you and reassures you that you look stunning when you protest. He kisses you up and down your body and reminds you that you are extremely beautiful.

If he catches you staring at the mirror for too long he starts making stupid faces at it. Anything to hear that laugh of yours.

Sans tries to convert that negative energy into lighthearted poking fun at yourself. Life is more whimsical when you can joke around and be silly.

If you can't find anything to wear, he'll suggest just wearing your pajamas out with 100% seriousness. That's how you find yourself in the grocery store with him, both in your pjs, at 2 in the afternoon.

Sans is a ridiculous man, but he's your ridiculous man.

UT!Papyrus

Papyrus takes your insecurity as a personal attack on his integrity.

He would never choose anyone less than great to be his partner, so he simply must help you to see that!

He is the most proactive of the group in helping you see yourself in a better light.

He's waking you up early in the morning to join him on his daily jog (he'll cut it down from 10 miles to just 1 for you).

If you get too tired, Papyrus will scoop you up like you weigh nothing and finish the run with you in his arms, recounting all the things he likes about you.

Each week, he'll find a new healthy recipe for the two of you to make together. Your weekly task is to find a new recipe for a sweet treat that the two of you can bake together.

Papyrus gets a lot more adamant about cooking for every meal. That way, he can make sure you're eating and drinking enough.

He also signs you and him up for lots of different activities around the city. Rollers skating lessons, pottery classes, cheap lectures at the community college, he's looking into everything.

Generally, Papyrus is doing the most to help you get out of the house and enjoy yourself, showing you how much more there is to life than obsessing over yourself and how you appear.

He wants to bring out the best of you, and show you that taking life by the horns and just having fun is way more satisfying than letting negative thoughts control you.

Fell!Sans (Red)

Red has a little bit of a Napoleon Complex, so he definitely gets the feeling of being uncomfortable in your own skin (bones?).

His way of helping you is talking about his own insecurities and showing you that you're not alone.

He'll show you all the scars on his bones, telling you how he got each one. Sometimes he'll put a funny spin on it just to make the mood more lighthearted.

The way you see yourself lowkey pisses him off because all he sees is a fine piece of ass that he wants to spend his life with.

He threatens to beat the bad thoughts up for you.

When you comment on an insecurity, Red starts shadowboxing and asking you if he knocked out the negativity yet.

You could be wearing a literal frumpy clown costume and Red would still drool and wolf whistle at you.

If you're fussing too much about your looks, he'll cave and throw his jacket on you, telling you there isn't a single version of you that wouldn't look good with it on.

Red jokes that you should be a critic. Then you'd at least get paid for being nit-picky about things.

Seriously though he loves you to death and wishes you would be more kind to yourself, even if that means he has to stay up all night whispering sweet nothings into your ear as you sleep about how perfect you are.

Fell!Papyrus (Edge)

It does catch Edge a little off guard that you feel this way about yourself. He's been so busy protecting you from outside threats that he doesn't think that there's an inside threat.

It doesn't worry him too much, however. There isn't an enemy that he can't defeat, after all.

Edge is going to brute force confidence into you. Exposure therapy to the max.

You can't find anything to wear that you think looks good on you? He's is taking you shopping for a full wardrobe reset.

He picks out some fits that match his own style (black leather and studs, very edgy, maybe a little revealing, too), and he takes you out to dinner.

He muses that people are probably very jealous of him when you're around (he usually tells you that people are jealous of you).

Edge will literally yell affirmations at you. He'll shake your shoulders and shout that you're amazing.

He'll also clamp his hand over your mouth when you're about to say something negative and give you a very stern look, almost like a parent scolding their child for swearing.

His romance game skyrockets. Lots of public displays of affection on his end. He wants to show you -- and everyone around you -- that you are desirable.

Believe this man when he tells you how perfect you are. Meeting his standards could be an Olympic-level sport, and you manage to fill every single one.

Swap!Sans (Blue)

If you start self-deprecating, Blue will shoot you with the most devastating set of puppy dog eyes you've ever seen.

He hates to see you beating yourself up about the most trivial of things.

Every day, Blue leaves a note with something he loves about you around the house where he knows you'll find it. You have a big jar in your room where you deposit them, and you can look through them whenever you're feeling down.

He will sit you down and go through his extensive library of photos of you and him and talk about how perfect you look in each of them.

Halfway through his gallery, Blue gets the idea to go do a professional photo shoot with you so he can "capture your present beauty."

He makes you start your day with positive affirmations, telling him one thing you like about yourself. He will nod vigorously and expand on it with stars in his eyes.

Much like Papyrus, Blue becomes your personal chef and whips up whatever you desire, ensuring you're getting enough food every day.

He very adamant about showing you off in public. He'll swoon on his feet and tell strangers that you're just the greatest.

He will pick you up and twirl you around just yapping about how great you are and how happy you make him.

Blue wishes with all his might that you could see yourself as he sees you, his star.

Swap!Papyrus (Stretch)

This man is so smitten with you that it shocks him to his core that you don't see yourself in the same light as he sees you.

Stretch silences your self-consciousness with kisses. As soon as you open your mouth to say something negative about yourself, you're cut short with his teeth pressed against your lips.

He buys you a pretty leather journal to write down your feelings in. It matches the one that he has for his own feelings.

When he notices you fretting over your outfits, he suddenly turns up holding a near-replica of his orange hoodie, just for you. Now you can match in style and comfort!

When you're hard on yourself, Stretch is hard on himself. He tells you that he won't be nice to himself if you aren't nice to yourself.

Sometimes he lays down on the floor and feigns dying when you're being negative. He says only a compliment to yourself (and a kiss to him) will bring him back to life.

When you are particularly hard on yourself, however, he hugs you tight and tells you that in a room full of models, you'd still outshine them all.

Stretch is a lot more clingy when he knows you're feeling down about yourself. You'd be full of self love if it transferred through skin-to-bone contact the way he's attached at the hip to you.

"Ugh, I look terrible." "yeah, and on the topic of saying things that are impossible, my skin is super dry."

He deflects a lot of your insecurities like this. He does his best to make you feel good with compliments towards you and silly jokes about himself.

I wanna say this about Hasegawa: I firmly believe it wasn’t just the fact that Kamimura died that impacted Hasegawa’s mental decline, but it was also the CIRCUMSTANCES and HOW he died that really fucked up Hasegawa.

That’s not to see he wouldn’t have been fucked up if Kamimura died via accident or by a mistake. Kamimura’s death would have caused Ken to spiral regardless, but I think the circumstances of how he died really made the mental decline fast and made the resentment really go outwards.

I think people kind of forget that Kamimura didn’t just die. He was TORTURED to death. He was alive and very much aware during his tongue getting cut out, the stabbing, the slicing, and potentially the disembowlment. Hopefully he wasn’t alive while getting his head sawed off. Hasegawa had to stand there and watch Okazaki gleefully explain that while she was COVERED in Kamimura’s blood: unrepentant and uncaring and joyfully declaring Kamimura’s death was for nothing. Hasegawa knows about almost everything because he’s interested in everything, so he was probably acutely aware of how much Kamimura suffered in his last moments. Especially when the dude has hemophilia. Knowing is the true horror here.

It doesn’t excuse what he did, but that combined with the other circumstances of the killing game, and his specific other circumstances (almost no support*, not close to anyone else, alone most of the time? meds are fucking gone, learning people are watching this for entertainment, seeing no escape in the blueprints, probably feeling like everyone just moved on like normal when his best friend died in such a horrific manner, etc.), add to the fact Okazaki specifically said she did it BECAUSE of Hasegawa? I’d probably go insane too. He and Watari needed to be on SUICIDE WATCH and that didn’t happen because the only people that would care are other SEVENTEEN YEAR OLDS who wouldn’t have known and that can’t be put on them.

He’d wouldn’t have handled Kamimura’s death well, but I think the extent of his mental decline could have possibly been different had Toshi not been butchered for shits and giggles and to stop Ken from investigating.

* I love Watari. I really do. But she was probably not the best person to reach out to Hasegawa first. Like, she did do everything right, but that doesn’t change the fact that she was Okazaki’s friend and then proceeded to still say she “also lost a friend” when that same friend was the one that took away Kamimura in the first place. Like she wasn’t wrong — they both lost their friends, (in Watari’s case, more ways than one). Watari is not a bad person. I love the fact that Watari tried to reach out and help Hasegawa. Watari is great. But she was not the best person to reach out to Hasegawa because sometimes when your bestie is the one who hurts someone, there’s negative association towards you. I don’t think Hasegawa would have thought killing Watari would give Kamimura vengeance, or that he hated Watari purely because of her friendship with Okazaki. I think if he mentally well he would have been able to see she was trying to help. But they’re in a killing game. Kamimura died. That’s a recipe for rapid decline mental health and a push to kill everyone around you because that’s what the killing game wants.

genuinely i think wolf 359 is a podcast that benefits from relistening to it. It has for me at least. These characters are all at odds with each other constantly but they all have their own compelling motivations, and i think its hard to be able to parse all that out on a first listen because you naturally gravitate toward one guy or a couple guys and then sort of have a natural defense against the characters antagonizing them in the series.

But because wolf 359 has so much going on behind these characters and their thought processes and their actions i think every character is incredibly compelling and being able to relisten to it with a new perspective and purposefully sitting back and taking in the other characters and how they fight against each other and what theyre doing and how theyre all getting in each other’s ways all the Time is so interesting.

I love how much conflict is in this podcast it’s sooo interesting. We put all these guys in space just to see the social implications of it all tbh.

Sometimes I get the urge to be like "Well, they can't live forever" when it comes to shitty situations with shitty people. But then I remember that A: shitty person dying might not be the result that someone wants, and B: it actually can take quite a while for people to die, in many cases

Idk I'm just so used to death being right around the corner that I'm like "Well maybe he'll die soon and that'll fix it" but he probably won't die that soon and it also might not fix it. Or be wanted.

Idk it's such a specific mentality that I have now. People can die with such short notice that you Never Know! The solution to all your problems may be short at hand. You never know.

just read a review of the lego movie from 2014 and it is genuinely a horrible piece of literature and through perusing the comments underneath the review, I have gained an intense dislike of the reviewer. it's not even that I liked the lego movie and he didn't it's just that a lot of the stuff he says is factually incorrect, really stupid-sounding, or he doesn't provide any real reason, and in the comments, he reacts to even the friendliest and politest constructive criticism as if it's a personal attack on him.
