Halloween subclass homebrew poll 2
The Druid Circle of Bones and the Artificer Necro-Crafter are both finished and on this blog.
I don't know how many more I will be able to finish before Halloween (which is my artificial cutoff for making these), but I'm guessing maybe two more.
So,
Remember, this poll only runs for a day. Please reblog for bigger sample size. If you can't decide which one you want to see, pick the class you're currently playing or roll a d8.

OC Reference sheet
there's a few of them so this'll go behind a read-more for my sanity and your dash
TTRPG OCs
Impetus - Tiefling Swashbuckler Rogue/Champion Fighter Twin of Patience, proud owner of a vorpal rapier, traveller of the planes, stabbed Commander Saturn from Pokémon non-fatally, lover of chaos, definitely killed a deva once
Samit - Vedalken Artillerist Artificer Quiet, well-read, enjoys working on his boat, cares deeply (platonically) for his work partner, works for an inter-planar society to avoid non-natives to any given plane causing trouble
Tommy May - Human (Hexblood) Wild Sorcerer His mama wished for a baby in earshot of a hag, he's a cobbler, the most average man in the world with 20 charisma, once exploded in the mouth of a big ice wyrm, thinks it's normal to pull your teeth out to act like walkie talkies with your friends
Roald Kromsson - Dwarf Battlemaster Fighter Used to be a cleric many decades ago, fell out of faith with his god while on a 'righteous' crusade, prioritises protecting his friends/party members to the point of putting himself in more danger than he should, ostensibly pacifist but once a fight starts his aim is to finish it as efficiently as possible
Achlys - Tiefling (Reborn) Wild Barbarian Contracted to work for the Witchlight Carnival, keeps dying in looney tunes esque accidents and being brought back to finish the length of her contract, isn't entirely aware that she's actually died a bunch of times and thinks she's just really lucky, WILL run head first into a situation
Chiara - Half-elf Necromancer (Dark Urge) Hates her own pain and gets faint at her own blood but doesn't extend this feeling to others, extremely trusting since she doesn't have the memory to shore up her own convictions, doesn't like getting her hands dirty directly, caffeine makes her a different person
Viscera - Human Swords Bard (Dark Urge) Worst woman you've ever met, loves to cause pain and chaos, will fuck your girlfriend, thinks everyone should do whatever they want forever
Alice Murray - Human Knowledge Cleric of the Raven Queen Blind, wanted to be a wizard when she was a kid, was told she wouldn't be able to maintain a spellbook without sight, was taught rituals by a traveling acolyte of the Raven Queen and entered her service in pursuit of knowledge of the arcane, has a raven familiar named Sealladh
Kakra - Khenra Zeal Cleric of Hazoret//Draconic Sorcerer//Beastmaster Ranger (not all at once) From a game where there are various AU versions of her at different times. The constant between them is her connection to her twin brother Atsu. As a cleric, she was one of the few remaining mortals alive on Amonkhet after Bolas' return. As a Sorcerer, she was a fervent follower of the God-Pharaoh. As a Ranger, she died and was Eternalised in lazotep and is discovering her ability to feel again with her soul inexplicably tied once more to her body (her beast companions are all also undead and embalmed).
Ragnarok - Human Scribes Wizard Incredibly dramatic emo boy who thinks he's a warlock. In actuality, his grandmother apprenticed to a tiefling archmage (@enecola's Eternal) and when he, as a child, approached the Cool Magic Fiend and asked her very seriously to grant him arcane power, she gave him a spellbook and a couple of basic lessons. So he thinks he has a book of shadows and a pact with a fiend. But he's in fact a nerdlord with negative charisma.
Sybil Susurrus Rowena Shadow Susu Terracot - Gnome Knowledge Cleric of Mystra/Gunslinger Fighter A very anxious and introverted gnome who ended up the keeper of the party gun and decided to spec into it. She's the kind of lawful neutral who prioritises the lives of her friends over the fate of the world, quietly, but intensely.
Kiaran [surname redacted] - Drow Draconic Sorcerer A daughter of a distant branch of a powerful drow family who prize their bloodline's draconic ancestry and the magic that arises from it. Only the main lines of the family manifest this draconic power, but Kiaran found a magical tome which had been used to seal away the magic of anyone deemed undesirable amongst the family, unlocking her own magic and painting a big target on her back, leading her to escape the underdark. She's a sweet girl but does find it hard not to apply drow morality in the overworld.
PKMN
Jeff Williams Half-Mewtwo half-human freak of science. He was working on the Mewtwo project with Team Rocket (initially my character for him was also Bill the PC guy, but I'm reworking him to be Fully OC Guy), and was one of the donors of human DNA to the project. Similarly to the Bill incident, Mewtwo was supposed to simply be transported, but instead got fused with this poor hapless scientist. He then got trapped in TR labs for some years and experimented on, before breaking free and starting his own Organisation, running it from the basement while refusing to show his face for fear of being seen as a monster.
Jason Mancarella World's soggiest Interpol agent. The child of two very powerful and high-flying Interpol agents who got him into the family business despite him having zero ambition or ability to take the initiative. His partner Pokémon is a Heatmor named Vanessa. He loves the Muppets.
Kelly McCuin Quartermaster with Team Rocket. Got recruited as a teenager. Not fully cackling evil, more the casual selfish kind of nasty that leads to a callousness and lack of introspection into whether her job is worth doing bad stuff in the world. Unabashedly Australian. Best friend is @kranberryjuice's oc Ted from Accounting.

Make a muse challenge
Haven't done one of these in a while~
This is Viridian Hexblood, a Draconic Ancestry Sorcerer with the Green Dragon bloodline. Human by birth, she was born with a long dark green tail with glowing acid-green spines, and as such ostracized by many in her community. Once she reached eight years of age, she began to call upon her more noxious Green Dragon traits—poison breath, natural camouflage—and the town finally had enough and attempted to burn down her family's hut with her and her parents inside. Her parents died helping her escape and she fled into the forest, running until the villagers stopped chasing. She eventually stumbled upon a Hag's hut in the forest, who took pity on her and started teaching her the arcane arts and helping her control her new draconic powers.

Hybrid Class Review: Bloodrager part 4
(art by LTF86 on DeviantArt)
Bloodlines and Mutations
Like it’s parent class, the bloodrager has a selection of bloodlines to pick from, informing the abilities and combat style they prefer, as well as informing some of their personal lore. After all, like sorcerers, the bloodline of a bloodrager suggests some connection to the source of that power, be it a distant (or not-so distant) intermingling of blood, being born under an auspicious sign, being exposed to strange energies during the neonatal or childhood periods of their lives, and so on. Whether some factor such as strong emotions or personal choice caused them to develop as a bloodrager instead of a sorcerer, their power is undeniable as they grow into it.
Of course, what vexes me the most is that relatively speaking, bloodrager is one of those hybrid classes that did not receive a lot of updates compared to others, so while their core set is nice, and we get an array of reflections of other sorcerer bloodlines and even a handful of new ones, the total list is woefully small, and lacks many counterparts to the multitude of sorcerer bloodlines.
I’m grateful for what we got, and I understand that the focus of the writers it to explore new territory, not necessarily flesh out already-established concepts, but it is frustrating to me, anyway.
With that being said, let’s get into some broad categories of these bloodlines.
Naturally, there’s the core set, which has such staples as draconic, demonic, infernal, and the other classic ones, but also less monstrous options like celestial and destined, or more primal ones like elemental or fey.
A few tap into the natural world, such as aquatic for those with the blood of the sea, or verdant for those tied to nature and plant life.
Some of the new ones tap into new sinister forcers, such as the Black Blood of Orv, the vindictive power of Hags, or even the shadowy powers of Kytons or the Shadow bloodline.
An interesting area that bloodragers tap into that sorcerers only partially followed them were “monstrous” bloodlines based on many classic monsters, ranging from more humanoids ones like Medusas and Salamanders, to more bestial creatures such as Nagas, Phoenixes, and Sphinxes, tapping into both their magical power and physical might.
There are also a few that are tied to more mortal heritages that nevertheless have mystical power associated with them, such as the Arcane bloodline. Others include the Martyred, who descend from someone who gave their life to a cause, or the Vestige bloodline, representing those coming from a long line of warriors whose legacy has imbued them with power.
Beyond bloodlines, there are also a handful of bloodline mutations that replace certain abilities. These are the same as those seen in Sorcerers, but I’ll list them again for posterity. With the power of a Blood Havoc, these bloodragers increase the baseline harm their damaging spells do. With Blood Intensity, they can surge with power to increase the potential damage. Finally, with Blood Piercing their magic is better equipped to pierce the resistances of foes.
That about does it for today, but as you can see, bloodlines have a lot of potential (and room for growth with homebrew), which help determine what sort of bloodrager you would like to play as, and there’s a few bloodlines I didn’t even get to mention! With than in mind, look forward to tomorrow’s entry and the final thoughts on the bloodrager class.

BG3 Nila lore as briefly as I can:
Nila is a half elf, her mother is a high elf, her father a human. Mela took her husband’s last name and adopted human naming conventions. They are known as house Maenroni in Baldur’s Gate.
Her mother comes from a clan of powerful elven sorcerers whose magic can be traced back to one ancestor who made a deal with a Night Hag, hexing her entire bloodline to become Dream Eaters - half-hag, half-elf. Their magic is wild but tamed, it focuses on charms, illusions and conjurations. They're master manipulators and are known for creating homes full of both enchanted and cursed items. Dream Eaters are treated similarly to their fiend ancestor and are often hunted by monster hunters, especially in areas where hag-activity has been recorded.
The mansion Nila and her mother live in is essentially alive - all furniture is enchanted to move freely (but every object answers to either Mela or Nila’s call) and there are mannequin servants, who are enchanted to work for the family and even have their own personalities.
Nila is a wild magic sorcerer who struggles to control her magic surges. She wears enchanted jewelry which looks like an upper-body covering brace. It is meant to channel the rampaging Weave evenly throughout her body, making her wild magic surges easier to control. Despite this, Nila will still experience surges of magic and unexpected effects of spellcasting.
One such unexpected side effect is her mannequin assistant, whom she tried to create by enchanting puppet parts.
Her name is Dorothy and she resembles a drider - a strange, centaur like creature with a many legged bottom half and a human torso. She is generally friendly, however, but only listens to Nila and even then can get agitated and violent if not dealt with delicately. Dorothy is the guardian of the Maenroni mausoleum, where the sarcophagus of Nila’s father rests.
Nila is about 60 - 70 years old at the beginning of Baldur’s Gate 3, her father died when she was very very young, she doesn’t even remember him, but her mother always speaks fondly of him.
Nila's closest friend is a wood elf named Magriel, whom Mela adopted as a child. Mag was orphaned and arrived to Baldur's Gate as a refugee, Mela took her in and raised as if she was her own daughter.
Mela has two old friends - both sorcerers - Eva and Beth. Eva is a drow exile who has escaped numerous assassination attempts and lives in hiding with her four children. Beth is a wood elf who lives a seemingly ordinary life in a cottage in the woods, with a druid apprentice helping her with her herbal majicks. Eva's daughter Ella and Beth's apprentice Caym are Nila's friends and confidants.
…
When Mela married her human husband, it caused her to be exiled from her clan. She moved with her husband to Baldur's Gate and adapted a simpler name to integrate within human society - her husband was a noble and this meant Mela would also have to adapt to Baldurian customs, putting aside her pride as an elf and as a sorcerer. She also had to be careful, as information about a Dream Eater "infiltrating" high Baldurian society might put her at risk, especially with rumors of her bewitching her husband to steal him from his homeland.
Despite the rough start to her new life, Mela soon found happiness in the birth of her daughter. That happiness, however, was short lived - Nila fell very ill and died in her infancy.
Mela was overwhelmed with grief and she sought out clerics and even necromancers in the hope her daughter could be brought back. This lead her to finding the Matriarch - the Night Hag who is the source of the Dream Eater clan's power.
The hag manipulated Mela, chastising her for selfishly choosing love over wellbeing or power, telling her she deserved her grief and that her daughter was better off dead. Mela persisted and struck a bargain with the hag. The hag brought Nila back to life but threatened Mela that this would come at the cost of another's and that the child would have to live with a hexed soul and would return to the hag once she died.
The life Mela had to trade for her daughter was none other than her husband's. He fell ill in very much a similar manner to Nila and passed away in the dead of winter. Mela was left with a hefty inheritance, but that also meant she had to take over noble duties. She was not as popular and well-liked as her husband and many of the patriars and dames were ready to backstab the Maenroni family for a chance of higher status in Baldurian society. The rumors of a Dream Eater killing her husband to absorb his soul became louder.
Mela had to reinvent herself. That is when she had to return to her roots and establish herself as a proud, unapproachable elven sorceress. She used her magic to enchant her mansion and to create an entourage of puppet servants, letting her human servants go. Her magic mansion attracted the attention of many a wizard and soon Mela gained the attention of the magic community of Baldur's Gate. However, this also signaled to her clan that she was very much still alive.
A failed assassination attempt against Nila caused Mela to become protective and essentially lock Nila in their mansion. Shortly after Mela took in a wood elf orphan, Magriel, with the hopes that an adoptive sister would distract Nila from her new circumstances.
Nila grew up surrounded by enchanted mannequins and books. She was educated and attended noble parties, however, her mother was always in close proximity and would often dissuade any potential romantic advances from eligible bachelors. This made her quite isolated, thus she would cling to Magriel for friendship.

A drawing of another Pathfinder character of mine, Rose! Yet another investigator (because I play so many of those, but hey, Devise a Stratagem is fun).
Anyways, Rose is a changeling and is also a Hag bloodline sorcerer. In game terms, she took the dedication feats for both Duelist and Sorcerer which honestly makes her fun to play.
Drawing Rose is always fun and it gives me a chance to draw actual human faces, which I honestly need practice with tbh. This still turned into "good enough to stick on my tumblr" though.
She usually wears a fedora but I forgot to draw it.
Also bonus Noire version.

Having started my 2nd DND campaign about two and a half months ago-I thought I'd share how it's going.
After finishing our curse of strahd campaign my players were more than excited to get started with our homebrew campaign (which I decided to throw together after wotc pulled that shit with the ogl a bit ago) but the world was nowhere near finished so my players actually helped me build the world. Making gods, lore, prominent NPCs and even helping me with the world's timeline to some extent. I honestly feel like I got away with dumping the majority of world building onto them! (Which isn't true in the slightest but they helped like so much omg)
We started our session 0 with boundaries and expectations as well as adding some safe words people can use if things are getting uncomfortable. Which so far hasn't been used but I check in regularly anyway.
Session 1-3 we introduced everyone
Ukko- the fallen aasmair cleric of Anaca(the matron of the wilds)
Jolene- the tiefling artificer sorcerer (who owns a shop and has split custody of their nibbling Archie)
Colt- the forest gnome druid (not a follower of Anaca strictly but is following behind Ukko on a Spiritual journey)
Cas- the changeling bard who accidentally stumbled I to the material plane and is now incredibly confused why they can see and talk to ghosts and is now disguised as a human
Iona- the tiefling bard who is currently being exploited by the internship they have at the local Athenaeum (it's like a library/magic school roll with it)
Anyway - through a series of weird events the party discovers that people are being turned into animals by some miracle elixir! They track down the source- a green hag in the woods disguised as an old lady- they take her down and bring her in for a reward and then they spend the evening celebrating at a fancy inn :)
Session 4-5 was a sort of interlude where I was feeling out the next adventure I kept tossing them plot hooks but nothing stuck so they spent this time running Jolene's shop (an antique store that's a cover for illegal gun sales)
Session 6-8
We began with a time skip of about a week to get to the weekend that Jolene's nibbling comes over. Archie is like 14 and going through teifling puberty ( they started out human and are slowly becoming a teifling cuz of a bloodline thing) and they are introduced to the party at ✨ fantasy Red Robin's ✨ where while having a wonderful time - Cas saw the ghost of a pirate -who immediately clocked that Cas can see him- and he began harassing them into helping him get back to his ship! After some Scooby Doo hijinks of trying to convince the party that there's a g-g-g-ghost everyone decides to help the ghost but unsure of how to find a ship in a landlocked city they wait till the next day so colt can cast "locate object". Eventually they find their way to the underground trolley system of the city and find an abandoned tunnel leading to a cave system that's just covered in spiders. They end up getting past the illusion puzzle meant to take up at least 10 minutes in 2 minutes and find a room filled with giant spiders!
After the spiders are epically dispatched the party debates what all these spiders down here mean- one of the players brings up the water that's on the floor and discovers it's salty which makes no fuckin sense under a land locked city and while discussing if they should go to the next room they hear a voice from above say "looks like it's dinner time" and they look up to see a Drider on the ceiling of the cave
Next session we'll be starting in combat with the Drider ready to kick some ass 🕸️🕷️🤗 the PC of Ukko has been absolutely enthralled with the meaning of the underdarks existence in tbe world -which hasn't been mentioned before - but he absolutely adores the underdark :) did i mention they're all lvl 3? I'm pretty sure they can handle it
#dnd story#dnd lore#dnd tumblr#dnd#dnd campaign#underdark#my players are batshit crazy#god help me#two bards#dungeons and dragons#dnd party#bards#cleric#druid#artificer#sorcerer#dungeon master

idk if you have any ocs but. free space if you do tell us about them go
Okay so I have a lot of OCs mainly because one of my prime hobbies is making D&D character sheets for characters I'm never gonna play + I used to (sometimes still do but not as often) imagine stories in my head to get myself to sleep. But I'm gonna stay on the most recent characters and universes so I can stay coherent. Anyway :
First D&D characters :
Hawthorn - Half-elf, Light Cleric 11/Revenge Paladin 3, he's a vampire hunter who's been cursed by a vampire who bit his tongue when he was young, which made it black and sickly. For this reason, a nickname he got is 'Black Tongue'. He's absolutely, brutally angry towards any vampire he crosses, and will try to kill them at any cost. Terrifyingly powerful, he can do like, 130 damage per turn in optimal conditions (without using spell slots every turn).
His personal arc would be to go against a Dark Lord vampire, Strahd-style, only to be revealed that the lord is a Scourge, a lich type from Pointy Hat that resurrects into the body of their most hated enemy whenever they die. After killing it once, it'd come back to life by using their mentor/friend/etc., and would have to try to kill the vampire once and for all, knowing he's the next on the list if he fails.
Phull - Half-orc/Hexblood, Archfey Warlock 3. He's an orc who was kidnapped by a hag in his early childhood, and raised to become a hag, but he escaped eventually and found his way to the Court of Summer, where a kind fey found him and kept him under their wing, and where he lived for most of his teenage years. He then entered a contract with Titania, archfey of the Court of Summer, in exchange for service (and also top surgery). He then went on to travel the world. He's not really accepted by either orcs or hags, because he's visibly too much hag or not enough, and people don't like either of those too much in general, so even if he tries to be nice and agreeable, he often gets the blame if something goes badly. He tries to stay optimistic, though. (Huge trans vibes, yeah)
Raphael d'Argazzo - Human, Swashbuckler Rogue 3. Your stereotypical prettyboy mercenary/duelist, he comes from a relatively minor noble family, so he's a baronet, but that's one of those titles you can just buy if you're well-off, like his grandparents were. He's one of many siblings and cousins, and while things are going well with his family, it's clear he's not the one they brag about or stuff, just... a good kid, who spreads their name sometimes when does cool stuff, but nothing more.
His arc would involve him in the underworld to find a too-soon dead lover of his (and he had many, so that's saying something). To gain access and stay in the underworld, however, he'd need to pay a price, a price made of his memories. He'd be given a deck of cards, and each card would be a part of his memories (friends, lovers, family, glories, losses, etc.). A twist would be that he already had given up the memory of his love's death, but that also removed all his memories of her. The whole theme would be "you have to remember your mistakes. It will hurt, it won't be worth it, it will feel horrible, for the rest of your life, but that's the only way you'll be able to go forward".
Next is Kasneon the Great (Kas for short), statistically Brass Dragonborn, Draconic sorcerer 5, but in reality, he's a very young (120) Brass dragon (he kinda looks like tiny Rak from Tower of God, if you got the ref). He's very full of himself, as most dragons are, but it's very funny cause his physique does not match that heightened view at all. He also curses a lot (except when his mom's listening), so when someone finds him cute, he answers "I'm 120, motherfucker!"
Achleïs, human, Shadow Sorcerer 3. One of, if not the most wet cat sad backstory characters I've made. He comes from a bloodline cursed by an evil goddess who has to give up their firstborn to her, and it happened to be him :D Since he was like 7, he was forced out of his home and left to fend for himself, under the ever watchful eye of the goddess. He's extremely frail and weak, with dark eyebags, because of constant malnourishment and sleeping in the cold (literally 8 in both Strength and Constitution). He's a very good spellcaster, however, and can scare the shit out of most normal people (a good example would be using shadow sorcerer Darkness (which he can see through), Deafness then Inflict Wounds from a distance with Distant spell).
I also have something that is more a persistent idea than finished OCs, but I have a cast of characters that are all black activist figures :
It would consist of a Bard of Eloquence (for the obvious MLK parallel), an Oath of Justice (custom subclass) paladin (for the people in frontlines in protest and direct action), an Celestial Warlock grandma, who uses her faith to conjure miracles (because I fucking love gospel music and a singing grandma conjuring an angel is fucking dope), and finally, the only one that has a name and an arc is Aaron, a Rogue-or-Fighter/Sorcerer, with fire magic, who beats up cops and brings his friends out of jail, and over the course of the story learns to be more 'heroic' (he helps out, protect people he doesn't know, and learn that beating up cops is cool but also community building and communal action is necessary).
That's all my recent D&D characters, the next characters are from a comic I wanna make called Harpy Story, a fantasy coming-of-age story at the edge between a magical forest and a village. I want the supernatural elements in there to be a bit about queerness but mainly about disability-
Evne, the protagonist, is a half-harpy, cast off from his people at a young age and left to die in the forest. He's rescued and adopted by a hag (the hag mother), and he lives under her wing all of his childhood. He has big wings (like, they go down to his feet) that he uses to fly- He's very nimble, energetic and gets attached quickly, but also prone to be judgemental or hold grudges.
Isaac, a human in the village nearby, is his love interest, and is the son of a priest that deals with the forest's supernatural inhabitants. Most people think that means chasing or banishing, but he simply talks with them and makes deals to keep his village safe. When Isaac gets older however, something happens (that I don't wanna get into detail because maybe some time I'll pull myself together and draw this).
I also have a custom D&D setting and a realistic world that I'm worldbuilding currently, but they're still pretty new and disparate, so I won't post them in there (maybe in another post, who knows).

Random character concepts I want to play one day, but no idea when that will be:
Wild Magic Barbarian Hexblood who was raised her whole life by a coven of Hags and was actually happy with that life until she found out her beloved “Aunties” weren’t actually her birth family (Shocker, I know), so now she’s on a personal quest of self-descovery and whatnot to find her biological family. Very, very hag-like, with her Barbarian class and big muscles coming from her Annis Hag side.
Trickster Cleric of Vhaeraun. No, actually a Vengeance Paladin of Vhaeraun. Actually, nevermind, class is secondary here, just a Drow who worships Vhaeraun becuase Vhaeraun rules and WotC did my boy dirty okay?
On that same note: Orc or Half-Orc girl who fiercely worships Luthic and will never miss the chance to infodump everyone and anyone about the Cave Mother and her greatness if given the opportunity to do so.
Drakewarden Ranger Githyanki. After a raid went horribly wrong, she had to watch as her raiding party left her to die and her beloved dragon companion sacrificed his own life to save her. Now stuck on this Material Plane, she has since then become accustomed to surviving on the wilds that are now her home, alongside the unexpected aid of her Drake Companion: The spirit of her late Red Dragon mount, coming back from the dead to fight alongside her once more.
Circle of Spores Druid/Pact of the Fiend Warlock multiclass Goblin who seem to believe herself to be some kind of Cleric: Ever since she was a child, she has been having visions of a being she refers to as “the Mushroom Lady”, whom she has come to believe to be a goddess and worships her as such (Kind of like how Critical Role’s Jester with The Traveler, except with not actual cleric levels to back it up with). Unbeknownst to her, this seemingly nice fungi lady is no Goddess, but a very evil and very dangerous Demon Lord: Zuggtmoy, the Lady of Rot and Decay.
A Gnome Artificer. Still thinking of what subclass to give her, but basically just your average Gnome artificer… Or is she? She acts like a normal gnome, feels like a nornal gnome and for all intents and purposes she is a normal gnome… except she’s not, as she’s actually a extremely lifelike Autognome, with clockwork mechanisms where her internal organs should be (Basically, a steampunkish homunculus). She would pretend to be a real Rock Gnome and hide her synthetic nature from the party for as long as possible, though probably the secret would be out as soon as the first combat encounter happened, as she wouldn’t have blood to bleed. Either way, it would be fun.
Eldritch Knight Yuan-Ti Pureblood. As with many “purebloods” born into a Yuan-Ti cultist society, he was raised from birth to act as a spy. The Merrshaulk’s cult he was born into had been nearly erradicated by a rival human village, and so he was sent there while he was still a child, with instructions of infiltrating the royal family. Pretending to be a human orphan, he was adopted by the family, and as he grew up he found himself growing attached to his loving foster father and brother, developing emotions and starting to question his loyalty to a cult that didn’t actually loved him. Then tragedy struck, he ended up confessing what he really was to his human brother and… It’s Kaeya guys, it is basically Kaeya Alberich from Genshin Impact except that he’s a snake person here.
Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer Goliath, kicked from her tribe because Giants and Dragons don’t mix and Goliaths are basically Giant Light™, as well as having self-esteem issues because of how weak she believes herself to be and yadda yadda, you know the deal by now. Probably the most bland and cookie-cutter idea out of these, but I still like her.
Wild Magic Sorcerer Drow. Malyk did it. Enough said.
Hobgoblin Wizard who used to be a gifted student at the Academy of Devastation until the day he dropped out after discovering that the Academy was not only corrupt to the core, but that they were not teaching him the Arcane arts to their full potential, since they only cared about magic as a tool for war. Excuse me, but there’s more to magic than just casting Fireball and exploding a bunch of people to smithereens like some scatterbrained terrorist! It is an art, Dad, an ART, and I am an A R T I S T!
Aberrant Mind Sorcerer gnoll, using the Reborn lineage from Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft for it since Gnolls aren’t a playable race as of me writing this because WotC are a bunch of idiots and cowards. Very canon-compliant, only reason this “gnoll” is not a feral fiend is that she was captured by a colony of Mind Flayers, and she has been so experimented on by them it is debatable how much of her is still Gnoll anymore. She was implanted with a mind flayer tadpole, but the ceremorphosis never completed (Aberrant Mind Sorc origin table), and as a side effect of her enhanced psionic mind she’s no longer an eternally hungry beast like all gnolls are supposed to be. But between her brain-eating “creators” that she miraculously escaped and Yeenoghu’s insidious lingering influence at the back of her mind, how much is this free will of hers going to last? Is she the gnoll she sees when she looks herself in the mirror, or is she actually the illithid tadpole still in her brain, controlling a gnoll body? And if she’s the latter, what would happen if she were to ever get too close to an Elder Brain? Who knows… 😈

Hi! I was wondering if you could explain to me (if you know) the difference between a mage and a cleric as El and Will are referred to as them in the show? :)
I am not an expert, but I have looked it up once.
If I remember right, a cleric derives most of their power by making a pact with a deity of some kind.
A mage I think is someone born talented in magic...?
And wizard is someone who studies magic endlessly to become powerful?
And a warlock... dunno.
BUT LET'S LOOK UP WHAT IT ACTUALLY SAYS
CLERIC : Clerics are intermediaries between the mortal world and the distant planes of the gods. As varied as the gods they serve, clerics strive to embody the handiwork of their deities. No ordinary priest, a cleric is imbued with divine magic.
In a round about way, you could think of Will as a cleric in season 2 as he got possessed by the Mind Flayer, did its bidding, and acted as a link between the real world and the Upside Down. But I'm pretty sure clerics are willing servants of the gods, not forced into it like a blood pact.
MAGE : Doesn't appear to exist, but Sorcerer does. Sorcerers carry a magical birthright conferred upon them by an exotic bloodline, some otherworldly influence, or exposure to unknown cosmic forces. One can’t study sorcery as one learns a language, any more than one can learn to live a legendary life. No one chooses sorcery; the power chooses the sorcerer.
I DO see it listed as a monster though? Here is its description : Mages spend their lives in the study and practice of magic. Good-aligned mages offer counsel to nobles and others in power, while evil mages dwell in isolated sites to perform unspeakable experiments without interference.
Somewhat fits El's description for sure, the sorcerer I mean. I think Mike made it up. Either way, the defining trait of a sorcerer seems to be that magic comes "naturally" to them.
WIZARD : Wizards are supreme magic-users, defined and united as a class by the spells they cast. Drawing on the subtle weave of magic that permeates the cosmos, wizards cast spells of explosive fire, arcing lightning, subtle deception, and brute-force mind control. Their magic conjures monsters from other planes of existence, glimpses the future, or turns slain foes into zombies. Their mightiest spells change one substance into another, call meteors down from the sky, or open portals to other worlds.
This is the class of Will the Wise and Vecna. The defining trait of a wizard I think is the fact that they study a LOT. They're like the old guys who live in a high tower and do nothing but read all day.
WARLOCK : Warlocks are seekers of the knowledge that lies hidden in the fabric of the multiverse. Through pacts made with mysterious beings of supernatural power, warlocks unlock magical effects both subtle and spectacular. Drawing on the ancient knowledge of beings such as fey nobles, demons, devils, hags, and alien entities of the Far Realm, warlocks piece together arcane secrets to bolster their own power. A warlock is defined by a pact with an otherworldly being. Sometimes the relationship between warlock and patron is like that of a cleric and a deity, though the beings that serve as patrons for warlocks are not gods.
This fits Will a whole lot now doesn't it? But I don't believe warlocks existed at the time Stranger Things is taking place.
Looking at the available list of classes back then :
Both El and Will the Wise fall under "Magic User" rather than wizard or mage.
In 1989, 2nd edition would come out which included more classes like wizard and mage. I see now that mage was a subclass of wizard apparently.
In this edition, the mage became an all-purpose wizard who could cast any wizardly spell, including many only available to illusionists in the first edition, like color spray and chromatic orb. The wizard spell list was unified, and illusionists became one of many specialist wizard types who focussed on a specific "school" of magic. The other specialists were abjurers, conjurers, diviners, enchanters, invokers, necromancers and transmuters. As a trade-off for various bonuses with magic from their chosen school, specialists became unable to cast spells from one or more "opposition" schools. Aside from school restrictions, all wizards could cast spells from up to 9th level, assuming they had the required intelligence.
So there we have it. The experts can correct me if I got anything wrong. It seems a mage and a wizard are actually the same thing with slight differences. At the time Stranger Things takes place, both Will the Wise and El are technically wizards or "magic users" as is Vecna.

Disney Villains in DnD
With the Disney Princesses and Princes, I put them into parties, but for the villains, I’m going to start by listing the ones powerful enough to be a Warlock Patron in descending order of power (by their base form). The rest are ordered by the release date of their film. I’m not going to cover all of the Disney villains in this one post, as there’s just too many, and not all of them map easily onto DnD.
CHERNABOG THE DARK MASTER
AS BIG BAD: Archfield Patron Warlock (Asmodeus)
As Playable Character:
Race: Asmodeus Tiefling Background: Courtier Class: Divine Soul Sorcerer (Evil) Skills: Insight, Deception, Intimidation, Persuasion
The Devil on Bald Mountain, Chernabog stands as Satan and Lucifer incarnate, the Disney-Canon equivalent to the Prince of Darkness, and the ruler of Hell. Like with Maleficent and Hades, Chernabog lacks a stat block, being a Greater Deity, and King of the Archfiends, Ruler of the Nine Hells. As a playable character, Chernabog doesn’t lend out his hellish powers or get them from an outside source. Instead he is a Tiefling with the infernal bloodline of Asmodeus (Lawful Evil) running through his veins. When he was an angel, Lucifer would have been a courtier, standing in the shining Court of Heaven before he was banished to Hell. His skills make him adept at lying to and manipulating people, as Insight lets him learn a person’s desires, and then use lies and honeyed words to lead them astray in his service. Consider this a free “how to play as satan” build.
MALEFICENT THE WICKED FAIRY
As Big Bad: The Raven Queen
As Playable Character:
Race: Hexblood Background: Noble (History, Persuasion Intimidation) Class: Wildfire Druid Skills: Arcana, History, Intimidation, Perception
Lore-wise, Maleficent uses “All the Powers of Hell”, but in terms of Dungeons and Dragons, the Wildfire Druid gives Maleficent the best parallels to her powers, as she’s able to grow a wall of thorns, call a bolt of lightning, Polymorph into a fire-breathing dragon, and spread fire. It also works lore-wise as the Wildfire Druid destroys the very forest they swore to protect. As a Hexblood, Maleficent becomes a fey hag, able to curse princesses and disguise herself as a racial ability. As the Big Bad, Maleficent maps perfectly onto the Raven Queen, ruling over the shadowfell, summoning the Heartless to do her biding, and loaning Diablo to those who worship or swear fealty to the Raven Queen.
HADES GOD OF THE UNDERWORLD
As Big Bad: Hades/Death God
As Playable Character:
Race: Mephistopheles Tiefling/Reborn Background: Charlatan Class: Death Cleric Skills: Deception, Insight, Persuasion, Sleight of Hand
For Hades, the God of the Dead, making him into a Cleric was a no-brainer. But Clerics have very limited options for fire magic. Sacred flame and Flame Strike both deal radiant damage, and their only other fire spell is Searing Smite which they got in the spell list expansion. But as a Mephistopheles Tiefling, Hades can also gain temporary access to Burning Hands and Flame Blade, along with Mage Hand. Mephistopheles is also the demon best known for making a deal with Faust, a trait shared by the deal-making Hades. If you’re not feeling the fire theme, or your DM doesn’t like the tiefling subraces, Hades can also work as a Reborn.
THE HORNED KING MASTER OF THE CAULDRON BORN
As Big Bad: Undead/Undying Warlock Patron (Lich)
As Playable Character:
Race: Reborn Background: Noble (History, Persuasion Intimidation) Class: Necromancy Wizard Skills: Arcana, History, Intimidation, Investigation
Ironically, there is a new magic item that maps perfectly onto the Black Cauldron, the Cauldron of Rebirth. But oddly, it can only be attuned by a Druid or Warlock, and the Necromancy Wizard creates the strongest undead thralls, as he adds his Proficiency Bonus to their attack and damage rolls. But if you’d rather have the Horned King be able to use the Cauldron of Rebirth, then make him a Spores Druid. If you absolutely must go warlock, make him an Undead Warlock. As a Warlock Patron, he would be a Lich. In the Chronicles of Prydain books, he served Arawn, God of Death. But the Horned King serves no such master in the Disney film.
JAFAR THE GRAND VIZIER
As Big Bad: Genie Warlock Patron (Efreeti)
Race: Human/Fire Genasi Background: Courtier (Insight, Persuasion) Class: Genie Warlock (Djinni)/Wild Magic Sorcerer Skills: Arcana, Deception, Insight, Persuasion
Jafar is the only one of the patron villains who themselves is a warlock to another patron. In his human form, Jafar has little to no powers. Everything Jafar is able to do is through either his magic snake staff or Genie’s magic. It’s only once he becomes a genie himself that Jafar has his own powers. So, Jafar here is split between two builds. As a human, he’s a warlock relying on a djinni. As a genie himself, he’s a wild magic sorcerer. Technically, he could be both. Play Jafar however you want. As a big bad, Jafar is stuck as one of the most subserviant types of warlock patron, which isn’t so surprising why he’s this low on the patron scale. Only Ursula is technically weaker than him, but that’s only true when she’s in her base form. Once she wields the trident, Ursula is even more powerful than The Horned King.
URSULA THE SEA WITCH
As Big Bad: Fathomless Warlock Patron (Sea Hag/Kraken)
As Playable Character:
Race: Triton Background: Courtier (Insight, Persuasion) Class: Glamour Bard Skills: Arcana, Deception, Insight, Performance, Persuasion Items: Circlet of Human Perfection (reskin as seashell necklace)
I built Ariel as a Fathomless Warlock because in order for her to be on land, she had to make a deal with Ursula. So, with Ursula on land, she can masquerade as Vanessa, using Ariel’s voice to charm and manipulate people. We even see Ursula do this when she charms Eric, so we know that as Vanessa, Ursula could easily run a successful criminal empire using Ariel’s voice to hypnotize and manipulate people into obeying her orders. The Circlet of Human Perfection allows Ursula to maintain a perfect beautiful human disguise without having to eat up spell slots. As a Fathomless Patron, Ursula in her base form is a simple Sea Hag, being much weaker. But once she gets a hold of Dekella, the Bident of Thassa from King Triton, she can grow in both size and power to rival the might of a Kraken. And with Thassa’s divine bident, Ursula can command the tides and all the beasts and monstrosities within it, puting her nearly on par with the powers of a goddess of the sea. But unlike Hades, Maleficent, and Chernabog, even at her near godlike power, Ursula still has a stat block, her bident can still be taken from her, and she can still be slain and defeated.
QUEEN GRIMHILDE THE EVIL QUEEN
Race: Human Background: Noble (History, Persuasion Intimidation) Class: Alchemist Artificer Skills: Arcana, History, Intimidation, Investigation
I really did consider the Transmutation Wizard for Grimhilde, as it has the power to cast polymorph for all of your Frog Prince needs, and a master transmuter can even Restore Youth. But then, the alchemist can brew a potion of transformation, and the chemistry set is clearly how we see Grimhilde using magic. The only magic she performs without the chemistry set is when she creates a gust of wind in front of her magic mirror. She doesn’t even create the lightning bolt for her transformation spell, it just happens to be storming outside, so she’s not controlling the weather either. Plus, the most powerful spell she has is the poisoned apple and she has to summon a bolt of lightning to cast Alter Self, a 2nd level spell. By DnD standards, Grimhilde’s not really that powerful. She doesn’t even fight the player herself in Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. If you want Grimhilde to be more magical, then go with Transmutation Wizard, but if you want to be more accurate, the Alchemist is how Grimhilde does her magic. Yzma from The Emperor’s New Groove shares a nearly identical build.
CAPTAIN HOOK THE GENTLEMAN THIEF
Race: Human Background: Pirate (Athletics, Perception) Class: Swashbuckler Rogue Skills: Athletics, Deception, Insight, Intimidation, Perception, Persuasion
While Hook’s still a putrid coward, he holds himself quite well, and is the epitome of Lawful Evil, maintaining a strict personal moral code to clash with Peter’s frankly Chaotic Neutral “heroism”. Hook’s not really good at the normal rogue skills like hiding or thieving, but he shines as a manipulative double-talking liar. Long John Silver from Treasure Planet has a similar build.
GASTON LEGUME THE HANSOME HUNTER
Race: Human Background: Folk Hero (Animal Handling Persuasion, Survival) Class: Monster Slayer Ranger Skills: Athletics, Perception, Persuasion Stealth, Survival
As the strapping hero of Belle’s Village, Gaston has the favor of his entire community, keeping them safe from any and all beasties that lurk beyond the city. Too bad he’s as rotten as they come. Likely one of the weakest villains in terms of pure power scale as little more than a local hero, he’s still an iconic enough villain I couldn’t resist adding him. Clayton from Tarzan shares a similar build.
SCAR THE USURPER OF PRIDE ROCK
Race: Leonin Background: Noble (History, Persuasion) Class: Oath of Treachery Paladin Fighting Style: Unarmed Skills: History, Insight, Intimidation, Persuasion
Simba was a druid because he was a wise king who could call upon his people to stand beside him. Scar is a paladin because he has devoted himself to a single goal: his own personal power. Scar shows little wisdom, but has a strong character and savvy charms about him that make him better suited as a CHA caster.
JUDGE CLAUDE FROLLO THE JUDGE OF PARIS
Race: Human Background: Investigator Class: Light Cleric Skills: Insight, Investigation, Persuasion, Religion
This was an easy villain to build. As a religious man worshipping God (who would def fall under Life, Light, and maybe Knowledge) Frollo would go for the one that lets him keep witches warm. His background was chosen as an investigator because he’s responsible for keeping the peace in Paris, and there wasn’t a background option for lawmaker. Noble or Courtier might have worked, but didn’t seem quite like the right fit as they deal more with aristocratic authority and royal court politics.
RIKU THE HEARTLESS KEYBLADE MASTER
Race: Human Background: Soldier (Athletics, Intimidation) Class: Raven Queen Warlock/Hexblade Warlock, Shadow Sorcerer Pact Boon: Blade Skills: Arcana, Athletics, Deception, Intimidation
In the first Kingdom Hearts game, Riku spends most of the game being manipulated by Maleficent. His DnD counterpart would surely be a warlock to her. But Maleficent oddly has not one but three possible warlock patron options. As the Raven Queen, she obviously has the Raven Queen Warlock, but the Raven Queen also created the Hexblade, which come from the Shadowfell, which she rules over. The third is unique to Maleficent, as she is a fairy, and a powerful one at that. Making her a valid choice for an Archfey Warlock. Archfey doesn’t quite fit Riku, but the other two do, and as a Sorcerer, Riku draws power from the Shadowfell which his patron rules over.
DR. FACILIER THE SHADOW MAN
Race: Human Background: Charlatan (Deception, Sleight of Hand) Class: Fiend Warlock Skills: Arcana, Deception, Persuasion, Sleight of Hand
It’s kind of hard to deny that Dr. Facilier is obviously a warlock, though his patron options don’t really come close to a neat fit. Among his choices though, fiend comes the closest to selling his soul to the Other Siders or Shadow Folk. It’s possible he could have sold his soul to the Raven Queen and his shadowy friends are the emissaries of the shadowfell, but as he has no raven or crow familiar, that’s a somewhat weak comparison.

Author's note: I decided itd be funny to make blanche's patron a fey hag specifically. Orlande has draconic sorcerer bloodline in her but was like Shit at magic so she kind of gave up on it/didnt care to really put an effort in it so she was a paladin. Poppy got her memories ransacked after an incident and is on her way to try and recover them/find a girl she thinks might be her daughter
They're also all 3 of them in their 60s. Or very near that age. Blanche is probably the oldest even beyond what she looks like, but with her contract being so fucky wucky who the hell knows how old she actually is
getting ideas for my 3-(wo)man fantasy-ish adventuring party of poppy, orlande and blanche vinaigrette because its fun to think about it. putting old masc women in situations

Hybrid Class Review: Bloodrager part 3
(art by Chetan Ranjan on Artstation)
Archetypes
Surprisingly, despite being a derivative class that came out later, the bloodrager actually has more archetypes than the sorcerer, which I suppose has to do with the fact that the sorcerer has always been more focused on customization through bloodlines rather than archetypes. In any case, let’s take a look, shall we?
One of the most common categories of bloodrager archetypes are those that modify their inherent magic, resulting in different expressions. The Ancestral Harbinger, for example, uses the connections to their heritage to summon mystical allies. Meanwhile, Crossblooded bloodragers have two bloodlines, representing a unique confluence of power from mixing heritages or a unique source that straddles the line between two. Blurring the lines between bloodrager and magus, the Enlightened Bloodrager studies their magic more deeply to unlock more mystical powers at the cost of their martial skill, while the Greenrager taps into primal nature magic. Hag-Riven tap into a changeling’s heritage with hags, while Id Ragers tap into a specific emotion. Metamagic Ragers have a knack for bending their spells through sheer force and will, while Prowlers at World’s End tap into the guidance of spirits. Meanwhile, Symbol Strikers master the art of utilizing runes.
While still ones that alter magic, of particular note are a pair of archetypes that focus on being the bane of spellcasters. Spelleaters do not directly interfere with casting, but their ability to slowly heal and even absorb their own magic to heal quickly makes it hard for them to be put down. Meanwhile, true to their name, the Untouchable Ragers forgo the ability to cast spells to gain a natural spell resistance, shrugging off spells like they weren’t there and relying on the other magical abilities of their bloodline.
Others utilize special fighting styles, such as the Blood Conduit, who channels touch spells through their bodies as they grapple foes, or the Bloody-Knuckled Rowdy, which specializes in unarmed combat. Bloodriders emulate certain mount-themed barbarian archetypes to channel their eldritch rage into their mounts, while Primalists emulate barbarians more directly by eschewing some of their mystical power for traditional rage powers. Polymorphing spells are fairly common on the bloodrager spell list, and Rageshapers specialize in utilizing such forms. Meanwhile, Steelbloods and Urban Bloodragers both call upon the trappings of civilization, the former by specializing in wearing heavy armor, and the latter by utilizing a weaker but more flexible bloodrage that is more acceptable and useful in civilization.
While still a short list, we can see that the bloodrager has a lot of decent options for recontextualizing the class. Admittedly, these options don’t deviate too much from “aggressive melee powerhouse with spells” too much, but if you’re looking for flavorful options, there’s plenty to pick from, especially when you remember that you still also need to pick a bloodline too.
Speaking of which, tomorrow we’ll do a look at the bloodlines and other mutations available to the class!
