Rebekah had been stubbornly ignoring the sight of Caroline's judgemental eyes on the periphery of her vision for the past three minutes. The younger vampire didn't say anything, and yet the eyes seemed to be getting louder with each passing moment anyway. "What?" she finally snapped, once it became clear that unless she chose to acknowledge it, this might very well continue for the rest of the night. "You're doing it wrong," Caroline informed her. Rebekah tried to remind herself that she actually rather liked the blonde baby-vampire now. Unfortunately, after forty-eight hours of getting subjected to Caroline actively micromanaging every single, last aspect of this particular day... it was rather hard to remember why. She took in a fortifying breath and made herself remember how much she was looking forward to the sight of Bonnie lying beside her on some European beach in that new dark blue bikini Rebekah had seen her packing into a suitcase - an evening with cooling sand beneath them, still-warm light from the sunset playing across the lines and dips of Bonnie's relaxed form; the feeling of Bonnie's hand in her own as Rebekah pulled her into the frothy waves for a midnight swim - and that any new murder attempts on Rebekah's part would instead certainly result in a rather sad and lonely trip through Europe. Killing Caroline wouldn't be worth losing that. Plus Nik would probably bitch about it from now until Earth got swallowed by the expanding hunger of their sun. On the other hand... "It's a marshmallow, how exactly can I be burning it wrong?"

So i just got the food truck event in roadtrip with cal and aravii and i chose the love potion option, because fuck it why not, and i was sitting there as i get blindfolded and spun thinking like "oh lets see how this goes wrong im gonna end up fallin in love with a rock lol"

And i was not fuckin prepared for the game to hit me with the genuinely sweet "hey dude we noticed you're like, unhealthily fixated on getting a date and collectively think you need some more self love in your life so we faced you at a mirror" like! What the fuck! Just stab me in the heart why dont you im genuinely touched!

I love how you can tell if someone is a new sfth fan or not by looking at their reaction to the kiss scenes.

If they're shocked and making gay jokes, they're probably a new fan.

If they're pointing out that it's Sam and Luke kissing again, they're definitely an older fan.

I can't get over how well Skyjacks: Courier's Call manages to capture the feeling of really, really good children's literature. Listening to it seriously does make me feel like a bookish eleven year old all over again, all the sedimentary layers of my adult cynicism and ennui about the fantasy genre washed away for a moment to lay my heart as bare and excitable as it was back then haha.

This podcast also has what I think might be my favourite moment out of all podcasts of all time, full stop... and it's just a snowball fight with no real narrative stakes at all, only a dwelling on the joy and the characters in that particular moment. To this day, thinking about it feels like a big smile in my chest. (To be clear it's not like the show doesn't have powerful narrative stakes or High Drama overall! But I have rarely found a story so willing to and so skillfull at lingering in delight and discovery just for the sake of it. There's such an immense generosity in that which I think is an underappreciated aspect of storytelling, and that I am really grateful for.)

It also carries over and builds on a lot of really amazing worldbuilding from Campaign Skyjacks, part of which is a deeply queernorm approach, so that's another level on which people might connect with it. And if all of this weren't enough: absolute banger music at every turn, as with Skyjacks itself. Season 3 is just starting now, so it's a good time to get caught up!)

Thank you for tagging me @lilacella !! It took me awhile to get this ready because I've been a bit of a slacker 🫣

But here she is! A snippet of A Night to Remember! As usual, Remus is overthinking :)

She’s still trying to decide how excited she’s allowed to be for tonight. She knows this isn’t going to be the most glamorous event of her life by far, and she may even hate it.

It’ll be loud, stuffy, full of annoying classmates that think she’s quiet-but-odd at best, making out with each other and getting way too handsy in front of the school faculty. She knows she'll want to take off her pinchy flats approximately half an hour after arriving, and there’s a good chance she won’t know any of the songs playing, and she can’t stop thinking about how fucking loud it will be.

Deep down, she still wants it to be special. 

Even if everything sucks, I’ll still be with Sirius.

That one little thought is the sole thing keeping her from asking Mr. Evans to turn around and drop her back home so she can curl up on the couch with her mom and her cat, watching Pride and Prejudice.

She switches from picking at the beading of her dress to flattening her hands over the fabric of the skirt, over and over, smoothing out imaginary wrinkles. Slowly the anxiety she feels over not knowing how to dance or fit in with her peers transforms into the usual band of anxiety she gets when thinking about Sirius. 

She doesn’t know what to expect from Sirius tonight. The whole prom thing had been mostly a joke—a way to appease their friends and maybe spend some time together—but now Remus has built it up to be some sort of defining event in her mind; the night that maybe, maybe, Sirius might look at Remus with something more than friendly admiration or fondness. She wants Sirius to look at her, and want. The kind of want Remus sees on Sirius's face as she eyes the cheerleaders—the two of them freezing to death in the stands, James somewhere running around on the field while Pete sits with the rest of the marching band.

Remus is tired of just being the weird girl that Sirius sits in exile with; banished from the student section by idiots who snicker at Remus’s homemade pom poms, and cool girls who glare at Sirius as if she'll pounce on them at any moment. 

They should be so lucky.
