Basically since 2019-2020, when anyone asked me my favorite band, I'd say The Scary Jokes. Sure, they're not as mainstream as some of my other favs like My Chemical Romance or The Beatles, but oh well. And if someone asked my fav album (either from TSJ or in general) I'd say this one; April Fools.
The balance of happy sounding vocals and instrumentals with deeper messages like drug use, heartbreak, liminality, and erm... icicles, drew me in the first time I heard it. But even not talking about the vocals or messages, the songs are just catchy. I commonly find myself going back to this album, whether the OG from 2019 or the 2021 remaster. When the remaster came out, I spent the whole day listening to it and marveling over how beautiful it sounded, how crisp it was. I tend to binge the 2019 version, sit in silence for a few minutes, and then binge the remaster just to experience that joy and awe I felt the first time I ever heard it.
I've even showed this album to my aunties, mum, and friends. It really is my favorite album, and my favorite songs are Catabolic Seed, Pink Smoke, A Mannequin Adrift, and Toynbee Tiles. But, unfortunately, the story of my affection for this album takes a turn for the melancholy here.
I always thought my life wasn't harsh enough for me to have a comfort album. Sure, I had songs that calmed me down, like Sandy Farina's version of Strawberry Fields Forever, but never a whole album that I could use to cope. Until now. My Nani passed away today. My first instinct is to say I wasn't that close to her, so I can push away that sadness and move on, but I can't do that. I literally started learning Spanish to make her proud, since she was Panamanian. I kinda don't wanna keep learning Spanish, since it reminds me of her. But, I can't stop now. Just a few days ago, my parents went to visit her in the hospital, and even though my brother and I were left in my grandparent's house, Nani told my parents to tell me that she was so proud of me for continuing to learn Spanish. I always hoped I could have a conversation with her in Spanish one day, but now I can't. Sure, I can talk with my godfather/her husband, but it just isn't the same. He's proud of me too, but it feels different, you know?
I can only end this post off with a lyric from the album;
"My world has turned so cold, but I won't cry... because icicles don't soften when they die, so why should I? Why should I...?"
I don’t understand how people put together character playlists so easily. I’m currently trying to make one for Simon Semblanceofsovereignty and the whole thing has just been me saying “this song would be perfect if Simon had the slightest bit more self-awareness” over and over again for half an hour.

I drew Nyo America, I still have to polish the tiny detail of not making her look like a scary mannequin lol
I have some time so here are some headcanons;
• She does see England as her mother, Alice, unlike Arthur, did not want to leave her colony adrift during her late childhood and adolescence. While Arthur let Alfred fend for himself from the time he was 8-10 years old, Alice was constantly with Amelia, she was a rough mother who wanted her daughter to be a refined lady but that formed a stronger bond between them.
•She tried for years to be a serious and tough woman, inspired by Alicia she learned from a very young age that she had to make an extra effort to be taken seriously. It was only after the World War II that she realized her position in the world and allowed herself to be more daring and "vulgar", wearing short skirts, more extravagant jewelry, makeup, etc.
• Amelia and Helena (Nyo Romano) have a friendship based on rivalry. Helena is vain and much more cutting than her male counterpart, so when she got involved with Amelia, a young and pretty woman she felt that need to compete. Far from being something harmful, this made them both closer. If Helena criticized how Amelia was dressed, she would ask why and Helena would explain
• She had an unrequited crush on Julchen (Prussia) this woman was the opposite of everything she knew, Julchen really fought and was not afraid to take a good punch, something completely opposite to Alicia and her teachings about not getting physically involved in fights and being more diplomatic, Amelia was nevertheless fascinated by this facet of Julchen. Unfortunately Julchen had no interest in Amelia, Amelia was a child in her eyes and saw her more as a younger sister.
• Amelia and Marguerite (Canada) have a complex relationship, Marguerite is passive aggressive and hides it under a cloak of false diplomacy, so unlike Alfred and Matthew, Marguerite drops many hints about what she dislikes about her sister and Amelia does the same, this does not mean that they do not love each other, they grew up as sisters under the tutelage of Alicia, there is a feeling of sisterhood and camaraderie but not much more.
• She actually has straight hair, very straight, but she thought that was flat and boring, instead she envied Marguerite's natural waves and did everything she could to achieve them, currently she has a perm
∆ Try to make sure there are no spelling mistakes.
Friends with You • Apple Pie • Feelin So Matryoshka • In a Bitter Syrup • Catabolic Seed • Icicles • A Mannequin Adrift • Blood from the Concrete • A Night at the Movies • Pink Smoke • Pleasure Cruise • Toynbee Tiles

OOOH THOSE QUESTIONS SEEM REALLY NICE thanks for sending me this! i just found a cd that my dad used to play all the time and it got me thinking about certain songs so it's really fitting :]
not sure if i'm supposed to choose some or do all. so i'm just going to do all of them, hope that's alright
"Dam ci ptaszka" by Artur Andrus! we used to laugh at the lyrics which were pretty nonsensical, especially paired with choir-like style it's recorded in
"Fire Fire" by Steam Powered Giraffe :]
i don't listen to one specific genre, but if i were to introduce someone to, let's say, Will Wood, i'd choose "Hand Me My Shovel, I'm Going In"
"A Mannequin Adrift" by The Scary Jokes. it's really nice with all the symphonies going there and can fit with a lot of stories
"Co Ty Tutaj Robisz" by Elektryczne Gitary. it's been stuck in my head for a past week and i don't think most of you have a chance to hear it
"Psycho Killer" by Talking Heads. it's one of my dad's favourites
hmmm. there's a lot. but i still remember the words for "Addio Pomidory" that i learnt as a kid for a school performance once
"Under a Technicolor Sky" by Will Wood from the Camp Here & There soundtrack
"Gardenia" by Malice Mizer
relaxed... "Cottonwood" by The Forgetmenauts
ironically enough, "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" by Scissor Sisters
"Twisting" by They Might Be Giants
"Make Room!!!" by My Chemical Romance
"Against the Kitchen Floor" by Will Wood. i might not have been that well lately. but IT IS a banger
i just know a toddler would go bonkers after hearing "Fart Patrol"
"Friends With You" by The Scary Jokes. really makes the nostalgia kick in
"Lay All Your Love On Me" by Brian David Gilbert. the vampire aspect really adds a lot
oughhhh honestly no idea what you're supossed to play on such occasions... "Careless Whisper" by Richard Cheese.
there's a lot, but the one that affects me the most is probably "Euthanasia" by Will Wood
