favorite callbacks/foreshadowing payoff in A Power Unbound that made yell "oh goddammit" at my book

MY MOST SATISFYING "OH GODDAMMIT" MOMENT. FULL ON HAD ME PACING UP AND DOWN MY APARTMENT GOING "OH MY GOD THEY ACTUALLY DID IT, THE CRAZY SON OF A BITCH, THEY DID IT"

it wins #1 because this line always made me SO suspicious, but I also thought it was such a longshot. between the suspiciously specific phrasing of "blow up" and alan calling the lockroom easy to misuse in the same scene, my prediction was actually that the bad guys were going to do some fuckshit with the lockroom, because ART introduced us to the concept of "using hair to channel magic" and having a room full of everybody's hair seemed... uh, bad.

so I was just wrong enough to be delightfully shocked and just right enough to feel so satisfyingly smug. 10/10 felt terrific.

"adelaide tapping her ring" is SUCH a sneaky little detail. because she's tapping her ring all throughout a marvelleous light, and then sURPRISE it was the contract piece all along, beautiful bit of same-book foreshadowing, well done everyone go home

so when it showed up again in a power unbound, I was like "aw cute. I like that she's still got that little habit, even though it's not a Plot Relevant Foreshadowing Moment anymore, what a nice detail"

and then adelaide pseudo-flipped me off with her ring finger and went SURPRISE, GOT YOU TWICE, WHAT WAS THAT ABOUT MY PLOT RELEVANT RING?

this one didn't take me by surprise, but it's exactly what I love about reading a careful and deliberate writer.

this is in the same scene where we find out about jack's secretbind. so when I read it, I thought "okay well, we just found out he has A Mouth Thing. but he subconsciously touches his leg as well as his mouth, so probably he has A Leg Thing too." and then did a quick "probably from the war, right? seems most likely" and felt confident I knew that Jack had some kind of leg injury long before A Power Unbound even came out

and it's just SO FUN, because when you have a really good writer like this, you get the absolute joy as a reader of reading One Single Sentence and going "I see you, I know that means something." it's delightful, it's my favorite kind of puzzle, it's so rewarding

the way robin gets super uncomfortable with the penhallick crowd gossiping about what happened to jack and then changes the subject to magical people born into unmagical families who never discover their magic

the way jack and alan are linked together through this one worldbuilding-during-dinner conversation from two books ago. beautiful. profound.

and finally. my grand final of moments that made me go OH!! FUCK!!—

that's the first mention of jack by name, ever, at all, in the entire series.

that is the very first detail we ever learn about him.

AND THEN HE DID IT AGAIN, AFTER ALL THOSE YEARS OF NO MAGIC, AND I WAS SO PROUD, AND I LOVE HIM SO MUCH, AND ALSO I HUCKED MY BOOK ACROSS MY BED.

HIS FIRST MENTION AND HIS FIRST ACT OF MAGIC AFTER OVER A DECADE, crying, crying forever, we have come full circle

I had a long wait okay?#I had to savor every little crumb of detail #enough that these things were just emblazoned in my brain #and I was yelling oH!!!!!!! so goddamn much #and of course there's a milliondy other wonderful throwbacks because GOOD STORY STRUCTURE #but these are My Favorite and the ones that were the most satisfying to me personally

That ended exactly how I expected it to and, as expected, I am entirely neutral on it. Wasn't a satisfying ending or a super hype ending or anything like that, literally just the ending that may as well have happened. Not a single thing surprised me that whole conclusion, it felt unfortunately predictable. You can tell he's excited for it's end though so I'm happy for Horikoshi regardless, hope he can get proper rest now.

Long story.)#Fast forward to one and half hour later‚ it's 3am‚ I need to study‚ I need to sleep.#I ctrl+f Akutagawa's name. And it appears??? Three times????? For a total of two paragraphs only???????#I'm severely disappointed. I expected at least some talk about the ss/kk Fukuchi fight.#I go to the first paragraph. It's a paragraph talking about the Sigma / Atsushi / Oda parallels–#where Akutagawa is just tangentially mentioned. At this point I'm like. Okay. Probably should have picked a better way to spend the night #I go read the other passage‚ which is also the very last passage of the whole interview. Akutagawa's name is mentioned twice. It goes:#(Director Igarashi) “That's why I needed to show that Akutagawa had returned from being a vampire.#No matter how dramatic the battle between Fukuchi and Fukuzawa was‚ no matter how successful Dazai and Chuuya were‚#I wanted the story to end with Atsushi and Akutagawa. That's because they are the center of this world.#So‚ naturally‚ I thought it should be them who had to conclude the story.”#Which is. Well. Something extremely heartwarming and emotional to read if you're a ss/kk fan. Kinda made up for the initial disappointment #And I'm rambling‚ because I feel like this thing I went through really exemplifies what it's like to be a ss/kk fan...#Igarashi-san sir if you acknowledge Atsushi and Akutagawa “are the center of this world” (your words)‚ why not bring them up sooner.#This is **precisely** like that one time Asagiri was like “omg ss/kk are soooo important their relationship is ever changing they're soooo–#pivotal to the b/sd storyline and central themes. That's why I cant write any novel on them or include them in any of the extra content 😛”#Like. I did it. I finally beat this game.

In a way, Wilhelm was reminded of his own packing back in Ireland, his preparation for his travels to the States: He remembered walking around his room, his house, trying to think of what he wished to take with him the most. He tried to focus on the important things: Clothes, of course, a photo album, an Irish flag, his mother's tea set, but there were more personal, sentimental items he thought about taking-childhood toys, knickknacks and bric-a-brac, little things he still had an emotional investment in...he didn't have enough room in his suitcase to take it all with him, he knew, but it wasn't for a lack of trying.

June asked, trying to see the situation a touch practically: Given how much time Emily had spent at their home, her own home must've looked quite dark and uninhabited, and so a part of her feared some hooligans might want to break in and try to steal the silverware, so valuables were at the top of the list.

At the mention of valuables, Randall immediately thought of the veil: If there was anything that fit under that descriptor, his masterpiece would be it, and that would be the first thing he'd make sure to grab for Emily.

pac is actually kinda attractive, i wish i had more time to watch multiple qsmp creators

#or any qsmp creators for that matter #literally the only person i watch is charlie and its just because he streams so sporadically that i can catch up #(technically im still in the middle of his gegg died vod but i already watched the bday stream so im caught up)#i tried catching up with jaiden's qsmp journey especially after bobby died #but then she did those cucurucho missions and i havent had time to catch up since #anyone else i genuinely cant find the time to sit down and watch because no one streams for a regular two hours #no they're streaming for a fat six hours brother i don't have the time 😭#tazercraft vods are a couple of hours long though .... i could be persuaded just because i want an excuse to look at pac #although idk what lore qsmp is dishing out now ...#unfortunately qsmp creators stream at ungodly times for me so i can never catch them at a good time 🤒#or. okay a lot of times i actually can catch a stream because someone's streaming at 10am for me #the problem is i have work and i start too late to look forward to a stream and end too late to remember that someone streamed #waiting for the day asian creators with gmt+9 timezones get added to the server and i breathe a sigh of relief-#-of finally getting to catch a stream at a decent time. only to realise those streamers probably have shitty stream schedules #me when i thought pearlescentmoon was normal with her australian timezone and then she ends up streaming at fucking 5am 😭😭😭#im gonna speak the 'asian creators having shit schedules' into existence i just know its gonna happen
