It was a quiet night with everyone still recovering from Christmas.  Black and Purple arrived at the advertised 7pm, soon followed by Lime and then Pink, Blue and Pine.  After a bit of chatter about Christmas and the “To Let” sign outside the pub, the group eventually settled down to play the “Feature Game“, Zuuli.  This is a light, family friendly, card drafting game that is a bit like Sushi Go!…

WH Staffer: Why so frowny, Mr President?

Mr. President: Get out of here, I said I want to be alone.

Staffer: But I brought you these.

Mr. President: These what?

Staffer: Why these are your clemency orders awaiting your signature.

Mr. President: I don’t want to now. I’m not in the mood.

Staffer: Oh, Mr. President, don’t you remember these? What you called them in the past?

Mr. President: Well, no. What did I call them?

Staffer: You called them your Fun Coupons. Remember?

Mr. President: Yeah...

Staffer: Didn’t you?

Mr. President: Yes, yes I did.

Staffer: Alright then, I’ll just leave these here on your desk. There are over a hundred of them. There’s your pen. Just start signing, do as much as you can, and I promise by the time you stop you will feel right as rain again.

Mr. President: Alright, Zuulie, alright. Thank you.

Staffer: And I might suggest later a shower, a shave and an actual fresh pair of clothes.

Mr. President: Oh, Zuulie, you nut. Get outta here, let me do this.

[I’m not jumping on the pile who will roast a president for their clemency orders. Even if any such order is nearly wholly lilted in one direction and shamelessly executed for political purpose. Mercy itself is not political, mercy is divine and should be held above and out of reach of poltical strife. Unquestioned, and for knowing that for any injustice one perceives in the “clemency game”, what goes around always does come around.

It’s also the end of one presidency today and the beginning of the other. So I refuse to go hard as a lion on the outgoing president, I’ll give him the lamb today and save the lion for this new administration.

My clemency to this president who I actually allowed myself to hate—I give him a gentle outro on his last actions, just a cute little mildly sardonic story that is but a quizzical end note to the 5 year tumult that “decorates” my facebook wall which I should probably sometime soon delete and cleanse for the fresh start.

Blessed are the Peace Keepers and the Merciful. Clemency is divine and so then must be immune from poltical scrutiny.
