Photography from Poland is generally not very well known in Germany, although one of the most exciting photo scenes in Europe has developed in the country. The book accompanying the exhibition of Polish photographic art at Berlin's ZAK – Center for Contemporary Art in the Zitadelle Spandau aims to close this gap in knowledge and shows works by young and middle-aged artists. In addition to many forms of aesthetically and formally fresh documentary photography, the spectrum of what is shown ranges from portrait and self-portrait photography to still life and landscape photography to free artistic approaches in abstraction. On the basis of extensive research and in-depth knowledge, the curators have selected positions that allow a look at all aspects of contemporary life in Poland, while also not ignoring the downsides.

FUTURE PERFECT - Zosia Prominska

Models are supposed to be 16 before they can work in fashion but in Poland children who have the potential to become models are picked up before that by agencies. Zosia Prominska is an ex-model who decided to document this by dressing children in designer clothes and taking photos of them in their child bedrooms.

THE COLOR OF MONEY AND TREES - Tony Dočekal

Dočekal has been volunteering for an association helping homeless people in the USA since 2018. She's been taking analog photos of them and their surroundings for 6 years. The title of her work refers to the other side of the American dream.

Opinion : exactly the type of photography that I love, halfway between art and photojournalism. The video with the woman explaining how she was fucked because her parents never taught her what a credit score was while a man recited America by Allen Ginsberg made me wanna angry-cry. Plus it was exposed in the perfect place.

Zosia Promińska (b. 1985 in Poznań) is a visual artist and photographer.

At the age of 15 she started her sixteen year long experience as an international fashion model.

Later Zosia studied ethnolinguistics at Adam Mickiewicz University.

In 2019 Promińska won Krakow Photomonth ShowOff competition. She was also nominated for ReGeneration5 at Museé l’Elysée.
