The Voyage So Far: Paramount War (Part One)
east blue (1 | 2) || alabasta (1 | 2) || skypiea || water 7 || enies lobby || thriller bark || paramount war (1 | 2) || fishman island || punk hazard || dressrosa (1 | 2) || whole cake island || wano (1 | 2)
the introduction of the celestial dragons really is just so brutally effective. this is the first time we see them, and before they even show up on page they immediately establish themselves as both absolutely powerful and absolutely despicable. everyone is watching them commit atrocities in broad daylight, and nobody dares say a word.
i mentioned it back in the enies lobby post, i think, with spandam, but oda is very, very good at creating villains who it just feels so good and so deeply satisfying to see them get annihilated, and the celestial dragons are maybe the crowning example of it.
i really like how none of the strawhats are really intimidated or impressed at all by the celestial dragons, in sharp contrast to how everyone else responds to them. some of that is ignorance, but you can’t tell me zoro would have acted any differently in this scene had he known charloss was a member of the world’s ruling class. all the power the celestial dragons have comes from fear; of course their greatest weakness is someone who just doesn’t care.
obviously this moment is just excellent, no qualifiers needed, but one thing i really love about it is how all the bad shit that results from this does not detract from the sheer satisfaction of what happens at the auction house at all. like, even though this leads directly to the strawhats getting crushed by the pacifista and kizaru and scattered by kuma, i’ve never once caught myself thinking luffy shouldn’t have done this.
i’m a huge fan of how rayleigh introduces himself. he knocks out the whole action house with conqueror’s haki, but luffy is completely unaffected, and the two of them just watch each other down the aisle for a moment as everyone else collapses around them.
i don’t know that i’ll ever get over the fact that oda created and designed the supernovas as he was writing sabaody. they’re all such distinct and memorable characters, and almost all of them have fit neatly into the post-timeskip story one way or another. they really feel like a part of the world that was always meant to be there.
i think the way roger as a character is handled is very, very cool, because we don’t really meet him as a person- when we first learn of him, on the very first page, he’s a myth, a story, a framing device. which is fitting, because that’s all the characters know him as. the rest of the world doesn’t know what roger was like as a person or why he did what he did, and so neither do our main characters and neither do we.
and then we learn, slowly, by following in roger’s steps and meeting the characters who did know him, like rayleigh and whitebeard and garp. and through their testimony and memories, over the course of the story, roger goes from being a faceless myth to being a proper character.
i think this panel, where luffy says he just wants to be the freest person on the seas, might be my favorite luffy panel. if nothing else, it’s definitely one of the ones i think about the most in terms of his characterization. luffy’s been defining himself by his dream since the very start of the story- he’s the man who’s going to be king of the pirates! but it’s only here that we learn what that goal actually means to him, and what he actually really wants. he just wants to be free.
the tone shift of sabaody really is impeccable. because up until a certain point, everything seems pretty par for the course. the strawhats make some new friends, get into trouble for their sakes, get into a hard fight where they all have to work together but eventually scrape out a win.
but then kizaru shows up, and another pacifista, and kuma himself, and for the first time in the story luffy says this is a fight they can’t win-
and then zoro disappears, and all of the audience’s expectations for how this is going to play out get thrown completely out the window.
it’s not that we haven’t seen luffy upset before this- his fight with usopp in water 7 and merry’s funeral are the two obvious examples that come to mind- but we’ve never, to this point, seen him as crushed as he is at the end of sabaody. it really drives the abrupt tone shift of sabaody home, because we’re used to seeing luffy be generally cheerful, and if not that, at stubbornly determined to power through. but here, he’s just wrecked- and the paramount war saga is just getting started.
every time i see hancock i’m reminded what a lesbian i am.
i’m talking a lot about character introductions this post, but a lot of really good characters get introduced in the first half of this saga, from the supernovas to rayleigh to jinbe. on that note, i really like hancock’s introduction, for reasons similar to what i said about roger earlier. she’s introduced as a cartoonishly evil one-dimensional bitch, and she leans hard into that characterization for the first half or so of amazon lily.
and then luffy narrowly keeps her and her sisters’ worst fear from being realized, and her facade starts to slip, and we get to know her as- still kind of a bitch, but also a deeply traumatized person who has very valid reasons for being the way she is, and someone who is overall a lot more complicated than she appears at first glance.
one of my favorite things about luffy is his ability to always, always defy expectations. hancock is dead certain he’ll take her offer of a ship and abandon marguerite and the others, but he doesn’t even hesitate before doing the exact opposite. luffy is always turning people’s worlds upside down.
i have a friend who coined the term “conflict of interest arc” to refer to the arcs where a crewmate is forced to choose between the crew and some obligation or baggage from their past- arlong park for nami, whole cake island for sanji, etc.
marineford is luffy’s conflict of interest arc- he has to make the choice, here, to prioritize saving ace over reuniting with his crew. where it differs from all other such arcs, then, is that nobody else can come to back him up. he’s well and truly on his own.
i love how thoroughly expectations get turned on their head with jinbe. for the longest time, all we know about him is that he’s a shichibukai and arlong’s former captain, so given what arlong was like and what the shichibukai encountered thus far have been like, it’s a fair guess to assume he’s pretty awful.
and then we meet him, and he’s ace’s friend, sitting bloody and beaten in the deepest dungeons of impel down for refusing to fight in an unjust war.
bon-chan is really one of the greatest examples of one piece’s stubborn refusal to treat any character as disposable, and oda’s endless ability to find new and interesting ways to fit them into the story. in pretty much any other manga, it would be all but guaranteed that we wouldn’t see a character like bon-chan again after the conclusion of the alabasta saga. here, luffy straight up would not have made it to marineford without him. this is true for mr. 3 too- who would’ve thought his ability to duplicate keys out of wax, established and promptly forgotten some three hundred chapters ago, would be the thing that let luffy free ace on the scaffold?
magellan is a good antagonist. i’m not saying i like him- i don’t particularly- but he’s a great antagonist for a couple reasons, and one of them is that his powers are terrifying. magellan is essentially what might be called in video game terminology an advancing wall of doom- the only viable strategy for dealing with him is to run.
i had more i wanted to say here but it literally kept turning into a rant about one piece’s take on morality no matter how many times i tried to keep it short, so i’ll settle for just saying that magellan is an antagonist but not a villain and i think that’s interesting.
the absolutely ridiculous, eclectic mix of people that luffy winds up gathering to escape impel down is possibly my favorite part of the whole arc. i just think it’s so fun and so characteristic of him that even when separated from his crew, he winds up attracting the weirdest, most powerful bunch of people around to break out of prison with.
the relationship between luffy and blackbeard is a really interesting one. it’s been plenty clear for some time that blackbeard is almost certainly going to be luffy’s final opponent to become pirate king, and yet they’ve been mostly running on parallel paths through the world, only occasionally coinciding (such as here and in jaya) and generally seeming pretty unconcerned with each other. it’s a really cool way to handle the built to an eventual showdown, and i really like it.
this is one of my favorite spreads just for sheer smile factor. i love it so much. i think we should get to see jinbe’s whale shark buddies more often, it’s a crime we haven’t seen them since this.

5, 11, 17 for anime asks :D
Anyone wondering, this is from here and I just realized when I looked at #5... omggggg why didn’t I read the asks more closely before reposting the list XD That’s impossible XDDD
5. list all anime you have ever watched
I genuinely don’t think I can accurately answer this XD I’ve watched way too many and I’m bound to forget some.
I have to figure out how I would even go about answering this... it would be dozens for sure but probably in the hundreds.
If you are actually curious about the answer and weren’t just jokingly trolling me, let me know in another anon ask XD I can do another reply and just list the ones I can remember, and see how far I get. I don’t mind doing so, I just don’t want to take up space if no one cares and it was just a joke because jesussss what a troll the OP was to put that as one of the asks at all XD
11. anime you didn’t expect to like but did
There’s a few in this category but the first one that comes to mind is Beyond the Boundary (Kyoukai no Kanata)... in some ways it’s not the sort of show I default to watching, or could be done in a way I don’t find interesting. Also some of the characters represent in some way tropes I don’t generally love.
But! It’s SO fucking good!!!!!!!!!
Especially since literally the only reason I first watched it was someone on my tumblr dashboard had some pretty and aesthetic animated gifs (I later realized were from the intro song) and it made me curious because it looked like it had nice animation... I really had low expectations on liking the actual series and thought it would be a pretty anime that didn’t really appeal to me.
I seriously love the hell out of that series. Highly recommend. 10/10.
Some others I ended up liking more than I expected:
Tokyo Ghoul I liked a lot (I’m not a fan of re: though), Noragami unexpectedly became one of my favorite series ever, I was surprised I liked some series like That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime, or Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon, or Guilty Crown or Oh!!! WAIT how can I forget??
Haikyuu!! Like. What the actual fuck, dude. I hate sports. Hate them. But Haikyuu!! is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD T____T I love it!!
I could probably keep going but I should stop lol
17. biggest anime crush
Gotta be Trafalgar Law from One Piece. JESUS FUCKING CHRIST I LOVE HIM
I can’t stop T_T LAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW MY LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE
He’s so fucking great XD He’s super badass, grumpy, but actually a really good guy instead of someone who’s an asshole and also problematic but somehow people think is a cinnamon bun. He’s not a cinnamon bun at all; he has a lot of edges. But his actions often show someone who isn’t heartless. I also really love all of his interactions with the Straw Hats because they (Luffy especially) are fucking chaos incarnate, and he’s someone who’s very methodical and who plans the fuck out of things before doing them. So it’s always a great joy having him around XD
Also! He’s a doctor who has DEATH tattooed on his knuckles which hits me right in the <3 for juxtaposition *_* And I love his ability - it’s really cool! Plus I love the voice they have for him. And his design. And literally just every fucking thing about him.
My god.. I started to write to this question “I’m not sure who it would be, hmm” and now I’m like - how the fuck could I ever think it would be anyone other than my greatest love of One Piece, Law?? And that’s saying a lot because I love the FUCK out of Luffy, Zoro, Shanks, Ace, Sabo - so many characters.
But yeah. When it comes down to who gives me the most joy when he unexpectedly pops up, gotta be Law <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 forever <333333

that Slytherin au
So remember that post a while back where I had a harry potter au for one piece where all the Strawhats were in slytherin due to their strong ambition present at an early age to achieve their dreams? No? well here it is anyway lol
Check out this post for some more reasoning behind the idea – note that I do headcanon some characters to not be slytherin, but for the sake of this au and the actual technicalities of the Sorting Hat theyre in Slytherin.
Here we go!
AU will start off with Luffy as a first year, and all canon age differences, meaning Usopp is in his grade, Nami’s one year older than them, Sanji and Zoro above her, and the rest Adults!
Save for Chopper – a special case, a mythical creature raised as human by Hiruluk in the northern mountain range. He looks somewhat more human than canon but is definitely a reindeer. When Hiruluk died and he was given to the care of Kureha, she sent him to Hogwarts (after a few years of learning from her) due to his wish to know more. He was accepted as a political ploy as an olive branch to other magical creatures – ‘ we accept you!’. He doesn’t care. He might be furry but he’s here to learn and be the best healer ever!!! Hence, Slytherin, the boys got ambition and needs some powerful families to back him up! He is in Luffy’s grade, even though he’s younger (technically)
The biggest reason for the Strawhats to be in this House is because of their ambition - but there are other reasons too!
Sanji is from a family of Gryffindors – heroes who are anything but. He wants to be the exact opposite of them in any way he can. When Zeff adopts him, he unlearns his family taught prejudices against Slytherins and when he goes to Hogwarts, tells the sorting hat in no uncertain terms that he wants to be in Slytherin.
Nami herself is cunning, and I would place her in Slytherin even if this wasn’t a Slytherin Au. She’s the perfect slytherin down to the T except for one thing – she doesn’t know her magical origin, as she was adopted at a young age. She gets a lot of shit for that, which she gives right back, as well as taking some money along the way! She also doesn’t fall in with the Magic is Superior ideology that many of her peers have – magic didn’t save her town, or Bell-mere, or her orange trees, magic isn’t superior. Magic is a tool to her, not a way of life, and science can help a lot! For instance, she made the Climatact Spell Set, with help from Usopp, which combines her knowledge of weather patterns, the environment, brief weather spells, and heat and cool manipulation spells, to create weather based attacks. For instance – it takes a lot of energy to summon and sustain/direct a storm… but if Nami can create one with use of low power cooling/heating spells and the environment – she can do a lot.
- More Below!
A zoro that is Cursed to always be lost is something that I’ve seen often and Im HERE FOR IT! If someone could direct me to the original creator of that headcanon I would love to credit them for it! To Be Clear AGAIN this idea is not mine, but I want to credit whoever’s it is because I love it.
That aside, Zoro is like Nami in that he doesn’t know his magical heritage. However, as a child he got the misguided idea that more wand equals more power, which he somehow manages to make actually work. Thus, Zoro has three wands, each with powerful beginnings. Im thinking powerful dragon heartstrings core for one wand, Thestral for Kitetsu, and Rougarou hair for the last sword – Zoro’s a bloodthirsty kid and he needs some bloodthirsty wands :/
Usopp’s a halfblood! He’s kinda scared of Hogwarts as his magical parent (Yasopp) has kinda been outta the picture for the most part, but he’s ready for this!! As soon as the kid practically vibrating with excitement to his left doesn’t explode. Usopp originally desired to be part of Gryffindor – house of the Brave, right? But after talking to Luffy, he’s not so sure. He wants to be his own hero – all on his own, not because he part of the hero, brave house. When Luffy is sorted before him into Slytherin, Usopp makes the descsion to follow him, and follow his goal. He’ll show the world he can be the best!!
He grows to be really good at herbology and potions – an odd mix, but you know whats odder? Mixing the two to chuck at people for pranks then turning it into your fighting style. Go Usopp!
Brook’s a cursed ghost – he’s bound to his living body, but the body’s just bones and bones lol. He makes it work – people know him first as the Soul King after all! He can barely remember his school days, but hes vaguely sure he was in slytherin – he remembers many parties held in dungeons, looking out to the lake for sightings of a curious aquatic beast (Laboon!)
Franky’s still a shipwright, but of ~magic~ ships. His brother’s ships are better known, but his are more sought after by… certain people (more on that later.) When he was a kid, he walked straight into Hogwarts, looked for the table that had the people who would buy his stuff, and told the sorting hat he wanted to go there. Later, he runs more with the Gryffindor crowd, regretting his choice, but when he makes friends with a first Year who tells him where to find some Adam Wood in the Forbidden Forest, he stops regretting it so much.
Robin has a very shady past, and she’s only at Hogwarts for a year before disappearing into the world. She has an odd type of magic, somewhat like pareseltoungue, that allows her to read coded and ancient languages with some studying (our girl still puts in a lot of effort though!) She reappears many years later during Luffy’s first (possibly second) year, and becomes the new history teacher (sorry professor Binns!) People find her scary and suspicious, but Luffy likes to talk to her after class, when she tells him history more like a story than a lesson! She’s very good at duplication magic.
LUFFY. This boy. Where to start – he’s from a pureblood family, not that he cares, and has some serious magic talent – which he plans on using to travel the world and find the mysterious One Piece – a fabled artifact said to have one’s wishes granted. Luffy wants it to be free (his home life with Garp isn’t very good.) He has a couple famous brothers who have been through Hogwarts – Ace and Sabo, both Gryffindors and pretty big shots around Campus. No one knew they were brothers til Luffy busted into Gryfindor Dorms one night and looked for them. Luffy is exetremly good with nonverbal magic (something in this universe that will be elaborated on, as it features into Nami’s magic as well), not so much with verbal as the pronunciation trips him up. Potions is also hard and if it were not a required class he’d have been kicked out.
Will touch on Jimbe later once I figure him out
Now. Perhaps you are wondering – why do a bunch of kids have developed fighting abilities? Well – take a look at the plot.
This takes place not only in a Harry Potter setting, but in Harry’s own world as well. Meaning – Voldemort is rising, Harry’s still the chosen one, yadda yadda yadda. But do you honestly think that Voldemort is the only magical evil? That there isn’t a magical underworld not involved with his horrible schemes?
Cause there is one – and Luffy and crew are neck deep in it. While Harry and co. are off fighting Voldemort, Luffy is ‘sneaking’ around fighting big time criminals.
Imagine – this eleven year old child comes up to you, a big mob boss, and absolutely destroys you. That’s Luffy.
Underage Magic? You think Garp, head of something or other in the Ministry of Magic, is going to stop that from training his criminal grandsons to be the best Aurors they can be? He knows how to undo the spell (there must be something at Hogwarts that blocks the ministry from being informed of spell use during the school year!) and Luffy has been casting magic like it was second nature since he was real young. He’s taught it to his friends too!
So plotwise, its basically the school reacting to the Straw Hats, who don’t seem to be friends but are, the odd noticings of what their doing while Canon plot goes on, and the inevitable suspicion from Harry.
But oh? What about the ship thing? What’s Franky Doing with that?
Luffy is forever a pirate – and the sea is one magical thing I have yet to be seen explored in the Harry Potter Universe. Therefore – free realestate!!! Luffy’s going to be a magic pirate when he grows up, he’s been telling everyone this since he first met Shanks, and maybe no one believes him now but it’ll happen! Magic Pirates!! Yay!!!
That’s all I have for now, so send me questions if you have any! I might make this into (another) drabble series, or maybe just one big one shot. We’ll see!!!

Mudblood pt.2 [One Piece Hogwarts!AU]
Most of the students couldn't sleep at all, that night.
When they took their first step in, Momonosuke and the other newbies looked uneasy at the dark underwater atmosphere of the dungeon.
«You'll get used to it.» you smiled at him and Sugar «The sound of water is actually quite relaxing, and a lot of interesting things appear beyond the windows. You'll see.»
Still stunned by the scoop of the Triwizard Tournament, Slytherin common room stayed crowded till late night, but you could bet the situation wasn't different in the other Houses.
Sensing the environment was about to heat up, Charlotte Katakuri sent the youngest students in their dorms. He had been Slytherin's prefect since you joined, but this year he was the Head Boy of the school.
«Those hot-headed Gryffindors are probably screaming and jumping around in excitement.» Perona huffed, claiming an armchair in the corner of the room.
«Who do you think will put the name in the Goblet of Fire?» Ginrummy asked, sitting on an arm.
You took the closest armchair. You girls wisely avoided the places nearby the fire, since they were considered the alpha positions and, well, Slytherin had quite a problem with those. Let's say Slytherin had a problem with red-haired alphas, being Eustass Kid and Vinsmoke Ichiji both self-proclaimed leader of their year. The last thing you wanted was getting in a fight for the leadership with those two.
«Well, Luffy, Ace and Sabo from Gryffindor are an easy guess.» you started «And I would be surprised if Sanji and Zoro didn't try as well.»
«Ugh. They're all really annoying.»
«What about the girls? The tall man said a guy and a gal for each House will be selected.»
You shrugged.
«I have no idea. Maybe Carrot?»
Perona frowned.
«Who's Carrot?»
«The rabbit girl.»
«Oh yeah.»
«I just hope the Goblet won't choose Edward.» Gin sighed.
Your expression widened with horror.
«I didn't think about it! No, we cannot be represented by that beast!»
After a while, Ginrummy reached her best friend Mikita and the two of them soon retired in the girls' bedroom.
«What's your problem, you shitty Vinsmoke?»
You buried your head in the chair's back.
«Oh please, no.»
Ichiji e Kid had started another of their fights, probably about who had more rights to put his name in the Goblet of Fire.
«A filthy mudblood like you shouldn't even be allowed to approach the Goblet!» Niji hissed beside his brother. Yonji sneered at Kid.
The scowl on the taller redhead deepened ad his expression became ice.
«You didn't just call me mudblood.»
«But that's what you are!» Yonji chimed «You're blood is dirty like the asshole of a Gryffind–»
«Stupeficium!»
The green-haired Vinsmoke was hit by the spell on his forehead, immediately going down. This caused Ichiji and Niji to reach for their wands, and for Killer, Heat and Wire to jump by Kid's side, ready to fight.
You jolted toward Perona, throwing you both behind the armchair while at the same time you extracted your wand.
«Protego.»
Luckily, Katakuri was the fastest and casted a barrier between the two groups.
«Stop acting like children.» he ordered from the entrance of the gallery that leaded to the male dorms «We're all Slytherin here. It's our duty to stick together and support whoever will be chosen.»
The redheads grit their teeth at his words but, amazingly, didn't protest. Relying on the House pride was always a guarantee, and Katakuri knew that.
«I swear I love that Charlotte dude.» you sighed in relief, getting back to your seat.
Perona did the same.
«I hope he'll be the one who runs for us.»
Ichiji and Kid exchanged a murderous glare, then each one of them turned in the opposite direction. Yonji was left on the floor.
«Hey, troublemaker.»
The hiss behind your back made you shiver. Perona, in front of you, widened her eyes and you knew nothing good was coming.
You slowly rotated to meet Cracker's sharp eyes.
«Charlotte. How can I help you?»
«Oh, there is something.» he viciously smiled, crossing his arms on his muscular chest. You blinked, confused.
Cracker leaned over until your gazes were only inches from one another.
«Don't put your name in the Goblet of Fire.» he commanded.
You frowned.
«What?»
«You heard me. Smoothie is the female champion of Slytherin. No one can compete with her. So save yourself some troubles and don't go anywhere near the Goblet.»
«I wasn't planning to.» you hissed back «You may have just made me change my mind.»
He narrowed his eyes.
«Excuse me?»
«Is there any problem?»
You suddenly felt another imposing figure to your side.
«Killer!» Perona gasped.
The student put himself between you and Cracker.
«I believe your brother just said we should stick together no matter what.»
The Charlotte faced Killer.
«Don't give me your shit, mudblood. You know Smoothie is the best choice for the House.»
«This is a matter for the Goblet of Fire. And, personally, I think Y/n could perfectly represent the House.»
Your cheeks heated up at Killer's statement.
Cracker lifted his eyebrows.
«Well, she's not as mudblood as you, that's for sure.»
The blond tensed his fists, but once again, Katakuri stepped in.
«Brother Cracker.» he called lowly, but it was enough to restrain the other Charlotte.
The purple-haired guy glared at Killer, then at you.
«This is not over.» he whispered before walking away.
You let out a small sigh of relief.
«Thanks Killer.» you smiled «You didn't have to do it, though. I have no intention of signing up for this madness.»
«You don't?» he shrugged «I think you should.»
«Whaaat? C'mon, Cracker might be an asshole, but he's right. Smoothie is the best witch we have.»
«She didn't cause half the troubles you did in your first year.»
«I'm pretty sure this is an asset.»
He chuckled.
«As you prefer, Y/n. But think about it. Goodnight, girls.»
Killer lazily waved at you before heading to the male dorm.
«You know, I can see why Cracker felt the need to threaten you.» Perona commented.
You turned to her, confused.
«The need? I guess he just thought I was going to enlist.»
She shook her head.
«Don't think so. Think about it, Y/n: what is it that you do when you have spare time?»
You huffed.
«Mostly, I try to take a nap.»
«Exactly!» she clapped her hands «And what does usually happen next?»
«Something tries to eat me. Or explodes. Or both, in one occasion.»
«Correct.»
She smiled.
«Y/n, if you put your name in the Goblet of Fire there is absolutely no chance it won't choose you.»
You stare at her in horror. Perona was right!
«But this is not a problem!» you uttered, standing a little too fast «Because I'm not gonna! And now I'm going to sleep, so tomorrow I can get up, start the classes and have an absolutely normal and boring year at Hogwarts! Goodnight!»
You stiffly turned and marched towards the female dorm.
Perona rolled her eyes.
«I'm pretty sure that won't be the case.»
