Got myself inspired by one short on YT and wrote a story.

Then friends becomes enemies...

Tangle thinks that incapacitated zombots must be burned before they could recover or else soon safehouse will be swarmed.

Whisper thinks that incapacitated zombots must be stored somewhere where they can't hurt anyone until the cure will be developed

After the especially huge horde and heavy casualties they can't keep avoiding the final resolution, noone of them wants to step back as well as losing anyone else.

First outcome: Whisper upperhands Tangle.

The last discharge knocks Tangle off her feet onto the cold ground, her offender lowers the weapon and finally exhales the air heated by the confrontation. Exhausted and stunned by what happened, they do not see how a metal monster crawls out of the seemingly immobile pile of bodies flickering in the setting sun. With its sharp fingers, it tries to grab the limur by the head, but only painfully cuts the flesh from which Whisper, who has not had time to recover, watches in horror as deep wounds appear on the familiar expression over and over again. Moments later, the head of the tearing creature flies apart into sparkling glitters and it wriggles and falls to the ground, slowly restoring the lost part of the body. However, the she-wolf does not pay attention to this, all that worries her is her friend wheezing on trembling hands. Through the blood pouring into her eyes and the infectious liquid that is spreading, Tangle looks at the sky in aimless inconstancy, not seeing the drops falling on top that involuntarily ooze from Whisper's closed eyelids. With each passing second, the limur's legs, quickly bending and unbending in agony, slow down their pace, the previously chaotically compressed chest inhales insufficient oxygen with increasing difficulty, the larynx contracts more and more quietly until it finally dies down. Despite the obviousness that is denied, the she-wolf continues to sit with a quiet body on her now shimmering arms. Soon, the lonely quiet sobs are joined by the growling of the newly converted creature that, opening its red eyes, pounces on the single target nearby.

But now there is nothing to be done, Whisper stood her ground and paid the price.

Here's a fun one.. 1. Whisper, how did you feel after hearing about tangle becoming infected by the zombot virus and seeing zombot tangle yourself? 2. How clingy were you with tangle after she was cured?

“i felt like i lost everything all over again, losing someone i cared deeply for again... seeing zombot tangle hurt me a lot but i knew sonic and silver would fix everything so i held on to that small amount of hope...”

“as for the second question, i was very clingy. i wouldn't leave her side. uh.. separation anxiety.. m'still afraid to leave her side.”

But, it's proof that you are a survivor, tried and true.

tangle is so fun because she is a juxtaposition of something collected and contained with something loose and free and in motion

she’s a rough brawler but she has a stance and a style. she’s impulsive and thrillseeking, but she wraps her arms in sports tape to protect them, a precaution. she longs for adventure and action but she will always need to come to rest at home with friends. she’s bouncy and restless, but she’s an intent listener and considerate. she’s got months of off-and-on experience fighting badniks, but is still so new to real Adventure.

and while there’s plenty of traits sonic and tangle share, you can’t reduce her to ‘girl sonic’ without neglecting something of her own characterization. she fundamentally wants something different out of life than sonic does, because she doesn’t need to be anchorless; she isn’t a backpacker, sleeping somewhere new every night. she’s more like a goose, or a frigate bird; flying free for ages and ages, knowing she wants to go somewhere, until time comes to call her back to her origin.

A tainted lemur notices her, trying to be sneaky so the wolf doesn't notice her.

The red dot was clearly right between her eyes--- Whisper had no reservations about shooting the Zombot. It wasn't her Tangle after all plus in a way she felt like it was putting her out of her misery. She switched over to the orange Wisp--- that should blast her with enough energy to incinerate her body to dust.

Her rifle began to hum loudly!

do you have any tangle system headcanons i must know

as a whole i'm a believer of singlet tangle with 4 billion problems but she says no fank u to them and pretends shes the normalest woman on planet earth.

but i can think of anything, so here's mine:

tangle, the host. the one you think of. excitable, seems to be without a single care in the world. allowed to be as happy-go-lucky as she is through the absolute blessing that is three out of four of the others. [she/her, not out of any particular attachment to the pronouns. what she's been called and so what she uses]

locke. the traumakeeper. has only ever spoken to one person before, and that's jewel. tangle recalls this interaction with confusion, and doesn't quite understand it. everyone else is trying to keep her from figuring out that she's a system. pretty scared of most things, but easy to calm with just a hot chocolate. upon fronting, most things get shoved to the side so that locke can take a nap. enjoys the drowsy feeling of sleeping while in front. [any, but mostly it/its]

chain, the protector. holds most of the more negative emotions for tangle. sadness, anger, all that bitchiness that tangle usually doesn't have? all chain. took it from tangle, and now tangle's all that sunshine and rainbows. in situations where tangle is unsure what to do or be, chain steps up to be the serious one. serious tangle generally comes across as. meaner than anyone would expect. [she/her]

phobia, who comes with the claustrophobia. if tangle was in a dark room for long enough to have a full panic attack, phobia would appear. phobia doesn't talk, and is ruthless. will do anything to get to freedom, and doesn't care about other people, as phobia doesn't know anybody. cares an immense amount about tangle and almost no one else, but is also the cause of tangle's panic, as phobia appears due to the panic, and makes it worse the closer to front phobia is. [no pronouns]

mercury. formed the moment jewel jumped them during the zombot saga. thinks sonic is sick as fuck, but only really cares about two people: jewel and whisper. feels an immense amount of guilt about both of them, and often lounges around or on them when fronting. he's made of metal, in his mind, but only holds fear of infecting for a half second after fronting. has completely taken tangle's memory of still being conscious after jewel infected them. tangle thinks that jewel jumped them and that was the end of that until she woke up on angel island. BOY OH BOY I'M SURE TANGLE, WHISPER, AND LANOLIN WILL BE TOTALLY OKAY WITH THIS ONCE THEY LEARN ABOUT IT!

It's not like Tangle was turned into a zombot, Whisper had her life DESTROYED, or Lanolin had her town attacked plus some kind of unresolved trauma.

It's also not like those three are part of a team dedicated to stopping him.

I'm sleep-deprived and yapping about zombot arc! Shadow

Wouldn't it have been really cool if, like, Shadow turning was ultimately Sonic's fault in some way? Or in a way that he would blame himself for it in the future when Eggman is rubbing in his face how his inaction at taking the Doctor out is what led to this in the first place?

Like, I really like this. How Shadow immediately sees the gravity of the situation and doesn't appreciate Sonic's jokes, how he tells him its HIS fault for what occurred, and how Sonic after can't retort anything he says because he's not incorrect. It's harsh, and I think it's fitting for it to be so. Sonic is whimsy and a jokester, always trying to keep the situation light, but that's not what the situation needs.

I think everyone generally agrees that the way Shadow went out in this arc stinks. It was reckless and ooc, as well as just generally boring for a zombie story. He literally grabs the zombot of his own accord for no reason and gets infected, and then refuses to run. Like... what are we doing LMFAO

Instead, what if we make a situation where Shadow has to save someone? I think sacrificing himself to save Rouge AND Sonic as well as the survivors in the truck is the play. Sonic's demonstrated at this point in the story to be winded from all the running he has to do, so make HIM fuck up here. Make him get hit from behind, momentarily stunned and for once not fast enough to stop the zombots from attacking the truck. Make Shadow see this, pause, and then at the last second he chooses to save Sonic and the survivors inside the truck, ordering Sonic to go. We could have Omega also be ripped apart a bit before this to really push Shadow's decision. He could tell them all to run, Sonic reluctantly has to follow, and Shadow's fate should be left a bit ambiguous here. Make the reader think on whether or not he's infected or not, whether or not he can actually survive the infection. Shadow's comms are dead afterwards, we have no clue. Imagine the suspense and the drama + Sonic having to live with the fact that despite that argument Shadow still saved him.

(With this you can also have it be a hope that maybe Shadow IS immune, that they can find him and solve this, but in the meantime they'll have Sonic do the tests.... just for the drama... They hit a lot of zombie tropes in this arc we can't miss THIS one!!)

Then, maybe around when Zavok and his posse start taking control, you finally have a moment where they use zombot Shadow. I think having this happen around Sonic's conversation with Eggman would be HUGE, because Shadow would be the representation of how much he fucked up.

Shadow was the one who wanted to kill Eggman, Shadow was the one who gave them more time despite that, Shadow is forced to be a weapon once more, and Shadow is the representation of what would occur if Sonic turned. Sonic DOES mention in the comic that Shadow is "faster than the average zombot" even without his shoes, which implies what it needs to, but I think it would've been awesome to have this moment happen later in the story, after many bad things occur (like Charmy, Vanilla, the loss of HQ, Tangle, etc.)

Shadow is very useful as a reflection of Sonic in general, and while I don't NEED him to be a main character in this arc, I feel it would've been more impactful to Sonic's story to have him be one of the final threats/moral dilemmas. Sonic is so close to turning as his running is getting less effective at this point. He'd think about how Eggman tried blaming him for helping to spread the virus unknowingly, and then he'd consider how zombot! Shadow has likely been doing just that. All because HE messed up in Sunset City.

I do love this arc regardless because I'm a sucker for zombie stories. I think my only criticism overall is Shadow, which I know a lot of people can relate on. With a little reconstruction though we can make this REALLY good, or at the very least avoid the issue of Shadow going out like a total jobber.

...At least we got that one panel of zombot!Shadow chasing after the truck and it was really funny so bonus points IDW you win I'm wrong frfrfr--
