The red dot was clearly right between her eyes--- Whisper had no reservations about shooting the Zombot. It wasn't her Tangle after all plus in a way she felt like it was putting her out of her misery. She switched over to the orange Wisp--- that should blast her with enough energy to incinerate her body to dust.

Her rifle began to hum loudly!

ϟ Tangle

For every ϟ in my inbox I'll tell you a random thought my muse has about yours.

Just how far do Tangle's and Carol's similarities go? Where do they end? What would be Tangle's tipping point?

She... doesn't think this often about her. Most of the time her thoughts are not shrouded in depression--sierra, normally she'd probably think ''WHAT'S THE FASTEST SHE CAN EAT A PIZZA, CAN CAROL BEAT HER TIME'' or something.

But.

Seeing that lemur so fucked up, and knowing that she's been through hell and back...

The cat would be lying if she said that those things didn't permeate her mind lately, when thinking about her.

She's almost curious to ask what that zombot thing was like. How she even survived--from the way Sony described it, it didn't sound like it'd be pleasant. Not even fucking slightly.

And then, she had a fight with this... Metal Sonic. And lived to see another day, but not without some broken ribs and looking stone awful.

And yet, she still smiled. Only thing that really hurt her was laughing too hard.

So, of course, she can't help but compare herself to her.

This isn't to say Carol isn't strong--of course she is. She beat up Merga and that crazy Bakunawa thing. She's way stronger than most people she knows.

But hell, would Carol survive half the shit Tangie's been through?

Physically, probably. If Tangle could then Carol could.

But, thanks to Neera, her mental has been in her mind more than it ever has. Hell, in order to control the gemerald she needs to get her mental up, right? So says scary lady.

So then, she can't help but wonder.

Could she actually mentally survive that kind of shit? The kind that rips and tears at your core. The kind that undeniably leaves you a different person at the end.

She... didn't know, ultimately.

She didn't have to know, of course. The chances of her going through some of that awful shit were next to none.

But, hell.

Her mind wandered.

And wondered on just how strong Tangle really is.

It took time, slowly closing and locking all the windows and external doors. The locks were busted on some so she used large boulders inside the museum or heavy display cases to block the entrances. Whatever those things were outside, they made Matilda VERY uneasy... after all they reminded her a little too much of Robians. Only...these things still had voices and looked WAY too mobian for comfort. Creepy.... The armadillo shook her head and then went to move further into the museum. Okay okay, there had to be some thing in here she could use to figure out what was going on. Then she'd leave and never have to come back here again. Looked like this world was pretty far gone... she'd call Blaze and she could relay it to Zonic who could mark it unsafe.....or erase it. Perish the thought.

The Museum sat near the center of town, siting close to city hall and was the towns pride and joy. Many signs along the city walkways denoted it as a point of interest. It had good funding resulting in some decent security measures, including steel shudders that blocked the windows. Yet seemed one of them had malfunctioned and refused to close. The window now busted and damaged from forced entry. The floor was littered with glass and broken furniture as if a battle took place here. Crystals dotted the floor, some rare and beautiful others more mundane yet nothing taken it was all left by the creatures outside.

Matilda's only saving grace was that they seemed not to regard her as a threat. Ignoring her entirely, as if she didn't exist. She could walk among them and they didn't seem to acknowledge her, some would look at her as if she did not exist. Others seemed to gaze at her with a look that seemed almost sorrowful yet none of them seemed hostile, none of them seemed hostile toward her. They just stood around, staring at the ground as if waiting for something that might never come.

Nothing out front gave a hint as to what had happened, the computer consoles trashed. Yet the door at the back was closed, and sealed shut. A heavy duty vault door, though scratched and damaged it didn't appear the creatures could get through it. A simple keypad sat on the right of the door as if waiting for some input, though a keen eye might find a bit of paper behind the main desk with the code scrawled on it in hasty hand writing.

Well that at least would get her in the back, with out tearing the door off its hinges. The door would simply slide open with a hiss and the turning of a bolt, it seemed the museum had a backup power system that was still online. The lights flickered once the door was open and a low moan rumbled through the building--- the last of the reserves exhausted to open the vault door. Inside, was Geo-Laboratory, many sensitive bits of equipment now lay in a heap on the floor. A scuffle had occurred here leaving the lab in disarray.

But Matilda had other problems, the moment the door opened up two bright red eyes met her own. Unlike the others who seemed to ignore her---this one didn't. It's eyes flaring to life at her entry and it turned toward her its great spiked tail slamming into the concreate floor! It let out a wild howl of fury and--- it charged forward at her at full speed! It was fast, nothing like the others and it seemed to not care for friend or foe! as it crossed the room like a bolt of lightning!

BOY OH BOY I'M SURE TANGLE, WHISPER, AND LANOLIN WILL BE TOTALLY OKAY WITH THIS ONCE THEY LEARN ABOUT IT!

It's not like Tangle was turned into a zombot, Whisper had her life DESTROYED, or Lanolin had her town attacked plus some kind of unresolved trauma.

It's also not like those three are part of a team dedicated to stopping him.

Tangle, how waa being a Zombot like?

“Oh.. you wouldn’t understand, Anon. It was horrible, I couldn’t do anything and.. I-I hurt my friends especially Whisper during the out break…”

God, for the IDW writers, the Metal Virus Saga must have been such a have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too storyline.

Like they got to have a zillion different characters turn into zombots in as many ways. Half the time it was people doing really stupid things that make everything worse for themselves and everyone around them. A character voluntarily bringing a zombot-in-a-box into a safe house was somehow not the thing that resulted in that safe house getting compromised. We got basically every possible reaction to a realizing that a particular character was infected. Everything gets worse and worse at every turn, with apocalyptic stakes from beginning to end. It managed to have Sonic the Hedgehog just about succumb to the virus with a POV shot from his own perspective, for Gaia's sake! Plus, even better than most zombie stories, the protagonists can't actually kill the zombots -- they're durable enough to take a point-blank shot from Omega and a direct hit from Amy's hammer, meaning the numbers are always going up and up!

... And the story could get away with all that because it was all temporary. A "cure" is always on the table, basically from the beginning, and in true Sonic fashion, the solution involves getting all the Chaos Emeralds. Cool action sequence leading up to it with Giant Zavok where Sonic teams up with Metal Sonic and Silver puts up an A.T. field. And then, right before Sonic succumbs completely, he goes Super Sonic alongside Super Silver. Poof, the Metal Virus gets physically pulled out of everyone, and they use the Warp Topaz to dump it into the goddamn sun, because fuck you, we're Super Sonic and Super Silver with the Warp Topaz. Hooray, wholesale victory, tearful reunions, and Whisper going +_+ before pouncehugging Tangle. And it's not even a reset-button ending, because the zombots did a lot of damage, and also sets up a number of plot points going forward!

Like I need to stress that I'm not even criticizing it. It Just Works! Plot devices like that are actually pretty great, when used in moderation.

About Winter: (by @sonicrewrittenau; art by @star-critter) Born two years before the first infections of the Metal Virus, Winter didn't have the best start to life. He was sadly converted into a Zombot and sent far away from his home while the Deadly Six reigned over the Zombots, and when he was cured, he had no memory of his home, nor his original family. Winter was left to fend for himself in Spiral Hill Village and suffered humilation at the hands of bullies, which led to him developing life-long trust issues and troubles making friends. Thankfully, local heroes Tangle and Whisper took him in as their own and raised him in a loving home. Winter now is still cold and distant, careful not to trust others in fear of reprecussions. However, he has learned to be caring and is exceptionally protective of his friends and families at the Restoration and Spiral Hill alike. Nowadays, whenever he can, Winter is building on his treasure-hunting skills, and as he continues on his quests to find ancient artifacts.
