Just finished reading Jade Dynasty and oh god, I can't with how the novel ended, like wtf
First of all, I'd like to point out the beautiful writing the author has; he has a cool way of describing and decorating the paragraphs and making them fluent at the same time. Fan of his writing and I'm going to read his next shared universe novel, for sure.
Poor zxf, his life was full of sorrows, but the novel made it quite clear that mortal life is that, the peril, the existence of many tones of grey and grivances (it's not entirely that but, anyway), and I'm glad he lived up to what the novel set.
And then, I loved how by the end he was so ethereal. As if he had transcended matters of heaven and earth. Calming to a certain extent.
Now, lxq loves him so much it hurts (she was with him and let him know he wasn't alone 😭😭). The author played with us a lot because each time she was in danger and someone saved her, it was never zxf.
I'm glad they didn't officiate anything, not even in the epilogue (tho deep down that was what I wanted the most), cause zxf needed to let go of the last shadow of Bi Yao embracing him, not forget her (in fact, I liked that detail of the green robe waving near him), but rather idk, his love for her and xq changing.
I like how they both (zxf and lxq) could live well without each other and were at ease with their reunion.
It was (literally) like the last chapter of a book and the end of the story, but with a new beginning full of possibilities and a new book ready to be written.
⭐⭐⭐⭐/⭐
(Is there an extra?)

My thoughts on Jade Dynasty
This could contain spoilers.
The movie is not that bad, but not great.
So I finished watching Jade Dynasty and omg... So many thoughts. It lasts 1:40:54 and wow, that ending saved almost the whole movie, because I'm gonna be honest, it felt during everything like a silly little cheap comedy movie I couldn't take it seriously but I wanted to keep on watching obviously for Xiao Zhan.
What made it kinda bad was the plot being treated poorly, and for a movie that its reaching two hours, in two hours it could have gone fantastic but the story/plot was made, developed very lazy, no flavor at all. I give points due to the ending because it did took a whole interesting point that I loved it, if they make a sequel, I will watch bc that cliffhanging was really well done, and sadly the whole movie didn't had that greatness of the last 30 minutes.
Now I'm going into my actress mode, the special effects deserve a lot of praise, I think they were really well done and had that mystical beauty that made it visually stunning, the waters, the flying swords made me want to fly, the skies and the clouds, it was very pretty and HAD the EFFORT , the general scenery of nature was also really nice and pleasant, the structure of the sanctuaries and this whole thing that screamed that everything was big and colossal left me wowed lol, I think all of this held well the movie.
Onto the characters and the relationships, my main focus was Xiao Zhan character, poor kitten Zhang Xiaofan deserves better and I hope he gets it! He was portrayed as a silly little guy with no tast, lets please not forget who he truly is; a good person, someone who is kind, respectful and helpful, and that was what made others walk over him, because his shufu instead of instructing him with the other guys, kept him as some kind househusband that had to do the fucking chores, they didn't help him with anything, didn't gave him in 10 years good clothes, literally slept with his dog and monkey in the place/kitchen/wherever they kept the food, 10 damn years he wasn't teached once how to fly, get his own sword and all the other things he didnt got like the others. Even the Qingyun Sect dared to "punish whoever does KungFu outside of the classes" Zhang Xiaofan HAD to do what he could because he wasn't given the option, so he had to MADE IT himself. The man was BULLIED by his peers, his brother didn't do enough for him either way. The only one who truly saw him and kinda recognized him was Biyao, and even if she mocked him, she held some respect for him alongside Tian Ling Er, but at the end what undone him, was that people didnt took him seriously, and he somehow had that accumulated in his heart. And its that what will change him from the sweet guy he was. He wasnt respected nor being truly considered.
I hope to see more regarding his relationship with the three main girls and how it develops, his "friends" and brother. I would love for Zhang Xiaofan to be respected and recognized, maybe as a supposed future villain, because being the joke of the others he was for too long, and my god, my heart ached when he could fly for the first time, sweet baby💔

I’m going to be talking a lot more about Thousand Autumns in the future. But before I move down the whole rabbit hole, I kind of want to talk about the Three Teachings.
In a nutshell, Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism were known as the Three Teachings and they complimented one another. So yes, this aspect of Thousand Autumns was kind of based on history. In Chapter 1, Yi Bichen represents Taoism, Xueting’s the Buddhist monk, and Ruyan Kehui’s Confucian expert. Shen Qiao himself, falls under the Taoism path.
There are some novels that play on this idea. For example, Jade Dynasty 诛仙‘s main character, Zhang Xiaofan cultivates the Taoist, Buddhist and Demonic path. (Confucianism wasn’t invited to the party oh well lmao). Shisi’s Pretty Boy on the Immortal Path attends a school that teaches all three cultivations and more.
This video below does a very job in explanation how the three religions were linked.

got a 21draw subscription since it was on a huge discount and a friend recommended it to me a while back... rly like xiaofan zhangs character design course so far it matches up pretty closely to the approach i already had so i can treat it as extra practice but i rly appreciate the advice she gives on more horror/dark fantasy oriented aspects of it and the atmospheric perspective talk, which is specifically something i vaguely recognized in my head but haven't seen properly discussed much when talking about art perspective...

Xiao Zhan - Elle China September 2024

Now it has been 8 years since Xiao Zhan's first acting career. Looking at his resume, he has played the leading role in various TV dramas. But he still feels that he is a newcomer and hopes to work with more experienced production teams in the future. He doesn't think too much. He doesn't actually know the work plan divided by year. He only cares about what the next stage of work will be, rather than "asking about things that are too far away." #肖战ELLE Light and Shadow Blockbuster##肖战maintains curiosity and desire to explore##肖战ELLE Golden September Cover#

Two black curtains reach the top of the studio, neatly isolating the shooting area from the surroundings. You have to go through the maze-like curtains to get to the core of the small space. Pure white, too much air conditioning, and the high-frequency and continuous camera shutter sounds. Xiao Zhan wears all black clothes and rarely makes unnecessary movements. For a while, the lights broke and the shooting was suspended, so he stood in the dark with one foot on a wooden box; when the staff and photographer discussed the photos and adjusted the shape, he also stood in front of the display screen, with the faint screen light covering him… We recorded Xiao Zhan from another angle.

Halfway through the interview, Xiao Zhan suddenly said that he had a conflicting feeling about long interviews. On the one hand, he was worried about not growing enough and showing his timidity in the conversation. On the other hand, he wanted to explore some subtle feelings through the conversation because he thought he was not good at recording them in words. Observation, feeling, understanding, and expression are the essence of an actor's creativity. "Dialogue is also muscle memory." Xiao Zhan said, "Although I am very i, I am not autistic. Because I think actors need to learn to express, express your inner thoughts, and digest the content handed to you by the other party.

Some Random Thoughts
Okay.
After watching Blood of Youth and spying some TikToks, I noticed many people comparing Li Hongyi to Cheng Yi in Mysterious Lotus Casebook. I decided to give the show a try. MLC doesn't connect with me so far and I'm fifteen episodes in. The cases aren't really interesting, they don't captivate me. I've yet to see one that makes me want to scream "who did it". As far as Li Lianhua backstory, meh at this point. I don't care. Anyway, I'll attempt to watch more (in an effort to find some interest) because I still have IQIYI and it isn't time for me to watch Ace of Troops yet.
It kills me to have to say this next part. I watched Jade Dynasty and I'm not a fan. I really wanted to like this movie for Xiao Zhan. Normally, I'm hardly the person to complain about plot, but I swear there's only a beginning and end to JD. Where's the plot? There's too many holes. I figuratively scratched my head multiple times. The worst part is I found Zhang Xiaofan to be one note. There's no character development. I nearly stopped watching in the beginning after the voice actor (I really hope it's not XZ. I know he did the one in DC and I had zero complaints after watching it.) over reacted to the bugs. His voice was annoying verging on animated where they exaggerate and during a couple fight scenes.
To have all the awesome special effects, there was no excitement for me. The bad guy's are literally in this movie for five to ten minutes during which there's little resolution to any question.
Blood stone? Soul sucking club? Who attacked his village? He supposedly had a teacher before? He knows three forms of martial arts but we see nothing? After doing research I found out this movie is based on a novel which has both a drama and donghua version so maybe the problem lies with narrowing down a massive plot into two hours and it just doesn't connect.
Last, but not least, the love interest part. I didn't see any chemistry between ZX and and Biyao. I resonated more with the energy between ZX and Xueqi despite them having minimal scenes together of all three love interest. It could be my preference though.
I'm so happy I watched XZ's SBMS drama. I would've been a tad worried if I watched this after disliking TLP. The only difference being I actually liked Shi Ying and I still want to force myself to finish the show for him.
Til next time...
