Designers try to steer the industry toward a more ethical, sustainable future, materials are often front of mind, including for Zena Holloway, who recently released a collection of garments and objects grown from grass roots.
Inspired by the sprawling, delicate shape of coral, Holloway creates soft, textured dresses, collars, lamps, and mobiles from wheatgrass seed. The plant sprouts over the course of about two weeks in beeswax molds. As it grows, it produces its intricately woven root structure, which the designer guides into specific spaces or allows to expand into large, sheet-like forms. Entirely compostable, the material is “both reality and metaphor, aiming to expose the beauty and vulnerability of coral and to champion ocean conservation,” and has the potential to be sewn into clothing or shaped into other functional goods.
The project, known as Rootfull, is ongoing, and Holloway shares a glimpse of her process in the video below. Follow her latest designs on Instagram.

Im pretty sure you watched the strip? Because Cohen holloway was also in that lmao
hahaha you are correct, he was in an episode of The Strip! (along with recurring actors David Fane and Craig Hall, who was in Boy and Eagle vs Shark) I do not remember his character at all, but also I "watched" The Strip while feverish after getting my covid and flu shots, so that's not too surprising.
@emi--rose and I have been playing around with a Venn diagram of Aotearoan actors, with the overlapping circles of "Taika projects", "Zena and Hercules", and "Peter Jackson projects" - the center spot is occupied by exactly two people, as far as we can tell: Craig Hall and Karl Urban.
we do always refer to Craig Hall as "Clint the Himbo Stripper", unfortunately

Zena Holloway
Zena Holloway, a British photographer known for her underwater portraiture. I really like her series "Angles." This collection is shoot in an environment like darkroom studio but is submerged underwater. It showcases her mastery in freezing motion. The meticulous use of cloth materials adds a dynamic sense of movement, creating an immersive experience for viewers. Despite the simple elements, executing this series demands a high level of skill and effort. Additionaly, since water and camera equements does not get alone with each other, I think she might use specialized lighting equipments designed specifically for underwater conditions. However, even with specialized equiments, achieving this kind of stunning lighting underwater is still far more challenging than normal.
