As is the general consensus, my expectations for the Zelda movie are in the earth's crust and I'm not hoping for much. But one thing I think will genuinely devastate me is if they take a Mario Movie route with the soundtrack. As in, we are going to give you orchestrated Zelda music, but half of the movie will be original compositions.
And like I understand why they did this for Mario. Bc the franchise is known for its upbeat, happy-scene-suited music far more than songs for big dramatic moments (of which the movie had plenty). But iconic Zelda music can range from "Lalalala I'm having a fun time in the woods" to "Fighting Satan". If they can our beloved tunes for generic Marvel sounding crap I'll kill someone fr

"I saw in the dark. Two floors below me, two women of the same soul spoke about the fate of the world."
Anyway i decided to combine the text posts with image posts so now uhh have this stupid image at the beginning.
So, today's text post is going to be about a completely unrelated to YIIK's lore bug that for sure will be fixed in later versions but i just want to share it cause it's pretty fun imo. First of all the backstory of how i found about this bug, there's this youtube channel called "Year of Chen Official YouTube" which seems like perfectly normal youtube yiik themed channel except their last 2 video which have no text or voice in them and it's just really long footage of gameplay, so they can either be a paid actor or they just went insane or something and decided to do their last 2 videos like that.
The first of these 2 videos ("YIIK 2022 05 17 18 29 21 BIT?") is nearly 30 minutes long and most of these is either just main menu or Alex falling into the void, the most interesting part of this video is author acitvating some weird bug or something and getting the background of Factory Hotel room to be blue and also enemies that weren't there before spawning, fighting them and then running/winning results in Alex falling in endless void. And uh, the bug is real! Btw before i talk about the bug i want to note how the video's description is encrypted and upon translation says:"I am uncertain But my mind is telling me We must BACK IN TIME https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8au3gdSu8Y" with the link redirecting you to a link only Zelda video about back in time glitch, this video link makes me somewhat believe that if at least not the bug itself but this video description could be somehow a hint by the devs. Anyway back to the bug, first of all you need to go back to Factory Hotel after visiting it for the first time, which you can do after getting key from Mancer's gate.Specifically you need to get to this room:
Then after going to the Fire Escape room and going through windows you need to get to this window:
Enter it and then comes to most important part. In this place there is a water fountain, currently there is a bug where if you interact with a water fountain and then press exit button youwill then be able to walk while still being in exit menu.
After that in this state go back to the window with ladder and interact with it, while having NO as chosen option.
It will result in game freezing for a bit after you climb the ladder aaaand
You bugged the game! The most notable effect of this is the blue fog appearing on background, however there are also few more effects of this bug i managed to notice: 1.All monsters in this room will respawn, including even one that aren't supposed to spawn there yet. 2. The lever and the barrier it turns off will be reset to default. 3.All sound will be echoed like in the fire escape room. And the main, fourth one is that making game re load you into this room you will instead spawn back in the fire escape room falling endlessly in the void, from which you can't escape except closing the game.
This can be achieved by 3 ways: fighting a monster and then running away or winning, saving in such state and then loading this save, entering and exiting mind dungeon. You can easily cancel this state by going to either back to Fire Escape room or using the elevator to any other floor. The coordinates in which you spawn in Fire Escape room seem to be somewhat connected to spawning coordinates in room which you were in before falling in the void, if you go to Mind Dungeon, enter the halls zone, then leave it and leave Mind Dungeon you will still spawn in Fire Escape room, however you will spawn on walkable collider and can escape back.
Uh, that's it. Thanks for reading.

If someone was to start getting into asau, which order would you recommend? (Asking for a friend) (Definitely not for me) (Not at all) (Nope) (Nu uh)
I recently reordered the ao3 series, so it should be accurate now! Counterpart, Confidential, and Altars are the only ones you need to read for the main au (in that order) (and even then you could probably skip Counterpart but it's a short read so it's up to you. The series doesn't really start until Con). If you want to read the nsfw (P&C), some of it relies on plot things and some of it doesn't. It's different per chapter since Peaches & Cream is a catch-all.
If you wanna read the spinoff stuff, we have a separate au series for that! It's also linked in the pinned post. Faction is its own thing which receives semi regular updates, and the Lifeblood series is also separate (porn with plot, solely written by me). I need to go back and edit the fic Lifeblood since I wrote that first and then wrote the prequel. I'm kind of working on the third installment but it's slow going.
We're actively updating Altars and Faction, with an Altars chapter lined up for tomorrow (Sunday, Sept 1). Reading the main series is not required to read the spinoffs, though the characterization slightly differs between mainline, Faction, and Lifeblood.
A Condensed Guide to ASAU Fics:
Do you want to read slowburn romance that takes 30+ chapters to resolve? Confidential. Legend and Warriors spend that fic picking up (almost) every hero and having several miscommunications while learning about each other and falling in love. They deal with ✨traumaaaa✨ (and sexuality and gender) with kind of a B plot of the Quest Setup.
In The Stolen Altars, it picks up right where Con left off. With pretty much everyone assembled, it's time to get started on The Quest finally... After almost 300k words... They encounter dungeons and monsters and talk to deities, all while being toyed with by the main antagonist! A few more heroes join the cast! Be forewarned that this fic includes temporary death of major characters. It's tied in with the plot, you'll understand when you get there. This fic has surpassed Con's word count and we still have two more eras to go. It will be followed by a sequel. The main fics will maybe turn out to be a trilogy?????? But if it stretched to a 4th fic I wouldn't be surprised. The timeline on this is years lmao, I can't predict how wordy we'll get.
Faction is a political drama dealing with international relations and war, with a side of romance. It's got all the characters you know and love, but some slightly to the left! General fantasy setting with a bit of Zelda lore mixed in. It'll most likely be completed in one fic! WAOW!!!
The Lifeblood series is vampires and smut. What else do you need to hear? (Real talk tho, The Copper Kettle is higher quality/more cohesive in theme than Lifeblood the fic, gimme a little bit to fix the inconsistencies hxhdbsbsn)
Hope this helps! Happy reading! And don't forget to COMMENT!!!!! (probably with some context bc in some cases it's been years since we wrote this hxhxhsjs)

Round 1, Side B: Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky (2009) vs Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (2011)
Mystery Dungeon | Skyward Sword
Campaigns under the cut!
Campaign for Mystery Dungeon:
I played this game when I was like 7 years old and I still think it has the best soundtrack I’ve ever heard. Hearing just a few seconds off of the main theme, or the music that would play while you take the quiz to see which Pokémon you would be, or On the Beach at Dusk makes me emotional and rekindles that sense of anticipation for a great story of adventure that was first sparked all those years ago. You’d be hard pressed to find a single mediocre track in this soundtrack. Also shoutout to Waterfall Cave even if you have never played this game PLEASE listen to Waterfall Cave
Campaign for Skyward Sword:
Zelda games have some of the best soundtracks ever and you can fight me on that BUT. Skyward Sword is both very dear to my heart AND the best one (of the games I've played, at least). So many of the overworld songs are great (Faron Woods, Lanayru Sand Sea, Isle of Songs), and the dungeon ones (Lanayru Mining Facility, the Sand Ship), and the quest exclusive ones (all the harp songs, whatever plays during the Wing Ceremony), and the cutscene ones (Follow Fi, Fi's Farewell, Romance in the Air, Zelda's Lullaby (or whatever it's called in this game)). Like literally it could not be better. Banger after banger after banger.
It's the first Zelda game I played and the music swept me away. :)

An aspect of totk that I've come to realise really bothers me is its tendancy to take bits and pieces of elements from lots of places and slap them into a game. Don't get me wrong- im aware the zelda games constantly include Easter eggs and call backs to reference older titles, and Totk is jam-packed with it. You search the depths to find a bunch of classic armours and shit from like every single game, the paragliding fabrics, and so much more.
But this game ALSO has a lot of story related or basic game structure that is tied to other zelda games.
1. Wind temple for example is practically oozing with reminants of wind waker-- you're climbing up to this MAGIC BOAT with the RITO (a prominent species in ww) by controlling and managing your wind powers all to make it to a boss with a name and theme song screaming out the most iconic parts of ww (God bless colgeras theme music we will never forget the music).
2. Lots of people found that the main aesthetics and storyline of this game was similar to skyward sword: you wake up on an ancient sky island that is the biggest one in hyrule before finding your way to the surface and descending down to start a search for zelda. I remember it was so similar some even started questioning if totk takes place before ss?? (I do not have the brain capacity to discuss that rn lol). Ganondorf looks extremely reminant of demise with his hair, main sacrifice of the game centres zelda giving up her body for a long long time so she can fight the evil that will come in a long long time, etc, etc.
3. As we all know, this game is a sequel to botw (omg rlly?? Who would have guessed) and it definaltly shows by the amount of game structure taken from botw to put in here. The four tutorial area shrines, the memories, the four main dilemmas for each reason, and ya know, the whole entire map. Totk makes changes to this map but essentially, it is a better version of the map we got in botw. Now it's obvious that nintendo would do this, but sometimes it feels like... they didn't have to?? The main one for this is the memories. The thing is, breath centred around our hero losing his memories and exploring unknown lands to receive bits and pieces that tell him what life could have been like pre-disaster. Totk, however, centres around zelda being in the past and showing link episodes of heavy plot driven cutscenes with every geoglyph he finds. Botw are little fragments of info that you can pieces together in any order to imagine what the main story was. Totk shoves a bunch of plot down your throat in any order because they don't give a shit if your spoil the story for yourself. Both games are non-linear. See where I'm getting at? One set of memories strengthen the nonlinearity of the game and rewards you for finding them. One... doesn't. There have been countless arguments made about this glaring issue that discuss it further, but my main point here is that maybe we didn't have to follow botw's structure to a tea if it doesn't work out for us sometimes.
Zelda games constantly reinvent themselves. Notice how no matter what nintendo does, some people always complaining about a new addition to the series while others love it? Wind wakers cartoonish artsyle, skywards motion controls, major's masks 3 day cycle, botw's open world gameplay? It seems like tears of the kingdom doesn't do that. I'd argue that its main purpose is taking breath of the wild and fixing major complaints made about the game, most of them usually about how untraditional to zelda botw was. That's why this game feels like a weird combination of the two. Nintendo tried to marry open world zelda with elements of older zelda games. It tries to have an episodic plot with major twists and emotion... but forgets that I'm allowed to watch each episode in any order I want and can end up screwing myself over. It tries to have traditional looking dungeons... but doesn't have any linearity to it and gets rid of the mechanics these used in botw, so it ends up being short aesthetically pleasing 4-part puzzles. It tries to have a LINEAR STORY in a NON-LINEAR GAME by making us constantly on our toes about finding zelda and understanding why she's trying to scare the locals shitless by commiting felonies like attacking the zora king, telling the gorons to do drugs, and appearing and disappearing every 5 seconds... but again, it forgets that I can spoil myself and know what the fuck is going on WAY before I'm supposed to.
This is turning into a little hater rant but. What I'm saying is, totk is trying to mix little parts of every game to make all of us happy, but it ends up becoming a confusing soup of unoriginality and "what the fuck in going on with this story". Its trying to make a traditional zelda game in an open world format. The most insulting part is that it tries to honour past games with taking all of their ideas, but totk's main purpose clashes with what those games are about (especially wind waker and botw) which is reinventing yourself to fit with the new generation and not holding onto the past/not obsessing over games that you got really big for (cough cough ocarina of time cough cough).
Anyway it's late and this is literally my first time trying to write out a critique about something on tumblr, so if this makes no sense pls tell me haha :)

A small handful of songs I associate with A Glint, a Spark. (Spoilers for both that fic and Memory, Heavy in My Heart.)
youtube
Arms Outstretched - Griffin McElroy
As I alluded to in the MHIMH playlist, Arms Outstretched was the song I had all but set AGAS to, for the animatic in my head. The progression of it from being kind of downtrodden, to this moment of hope, and then a happy epilogue was pretty perfect, both for the idea I actually went with, and the one I may still write.
Chapters 1 & 2
youtube
Place to Start - Mike Shinoda
Do I even have a decision? Feeling like I'm living in a story already written. Am I part of a vision made by somebody else? / Am I out of conviction with no wind in the sail, too focused on the end and simply ready to fail?
Cause I'm tired of feeling like I can't control this; tired of feeling like every next step's hopeless. Tired of feeling like what I build might break apart, I don't want to know the end, all I want is a place to start.
I don't have a ton to elaborate on with the lyrics. The first part just meshes really nicely with the theme of being unable to influence events that have already happened, and having to take them as they come. The second part resonates particularly well with the first chapter, in my opinion. I also like having a song from the same artist in both halves of the main story, and the contrasting tones.
Chapters 3-9:
youtube
The Heart of a Graveyard - Demon Hunter
Tell me that your final home is not a shot in the dark; tell me that your hopes and dreams don't end in the heart of a graveyard.
Tonally, it doesn't fit perfectly with the rest of this list, but the subject matter is pretty on the mark. There's a sense of preparing for the worst while still hoping for the best that I like, particularly in this context.
Chapter 10:
youtube
Final Battle: Malladus (From "The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks") - The Noble Demon
(The portion up to 0:46 is an intro, and not the most relevant to this list; the actual battle theme starts warming up after that.) A friend unintentionally reminded me that I love this track, and since that conversation happened smack at the climax of MHIMH, I naturally connected the dots. This would correspond to the recorded battle with Arceus, because the track for it in canon PLA just does not fit this version. I chose this remix in particular because it really emphasized the woodwind notes in parts-- which made sense re: the Azure Flute-- and because it has that underlying, train-chugging percussion. It's always struck me as a very triumphant battle theme, which fit beautifully.
Chapter 11:
youtube
Welcome to the World of Pokemon - Super Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
It's wondrous and mysterious, but gentle and a bit low-key at the same time, which I think makes it work very well for the build up this chapter, and most of the time spent in the Hall of Origin.
youtube
Mysterious Rainbow Girl - Wandersong
The same goes for this track; I was pretty torn as to which one I liked better, so I ended up keeping both for a little bit of variation.
Chapter 12:
youtube
On the Beach at Dusk - Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness & Sky
I had this one set aside specifically for the scene at the top of Dragonspiral Tower, where the reality of the situation is beginning to sink in. If you're familiar with Explorers, there... might be something of a parallel to be read into the situations they 'play' over.
Misc:
youtube
The yet untitled song from The Dreadful Demise of the Dinosaurs - Puppet History
A lonely life among the stars, my destination veiled and far away, but I knew one day we'd find each other. Then in the dark, a glint, a spark, the greens and blues, be still my heart-- and once I hit, that's it, I'm here forever.
While I'm here, I should probably include the fic's namesake. It's really only the one verse (~0:25-0:47), because this song has a very specific subject matter and thesis, but that one passage really stuck with me in this context. The first half definitely resonates most strongly with chapter 11, but I was also aiming to match the second to 12-- specifically "the greens and blues, be still my heart" to the scene on Dragonspiral, and to end with the promise of "I'm here forever"

Main OCs (Original Characters)
Tiffany - originally a D&D NPC in my first homebrew campaign (Heart of Atlantis my beloved), then I grew to love her too much to leave her alone.
Tiffany Mereign, ie Tiff, ie Theophania Athaliah Wilhelmina Fen’U-darah Mereign the Third, Queen of Atlantis, formerly Empress of the Atlantean Empire. Sea elf royalty, born on December 27th, took the throne with her father as Regent after the assassination of her mother Larethire II. She fully took the crown and throne in 1139-1140ce after killing her father Elias for his numerous crimes including the discovery that he was responsible for her mother's death.
The D&D campaign Tiff first appeared in took place in 1139-40ce where the player character party helped Tiff revive a dead goddess and use her power to kill the usurper king Elias and end a war that threatened their people. Said goddess cursed Tiff to die a thousand deaths (not by her own hand) before she can finally rest, all because Tiff rejected the offer of ascension to godhood.
Tiff handled her immortality curse... badly, to say the least. At least she met and married her loving supportive wives Cassie and Anya who help her with her chronic pain and substance addictions. Tiff is addicted to a substance known as heartstone, which is magically radioactive, which means Tiff has to wear protective clothing so that she doesn't irradiate everyone around her.
Rana - Ranarox La'Rouge, originally started as a Haunted One Bard/Rogue in a Curse of Strahd campaign, then got repurposed and fleshed out as my Dark Urge/Durge OC for Baldur's Gate 3. Raised in a circus and wooed by every pretty face they see, Rana does everything in their power to fend off the Red that swirls around their vision that brings the Urge to kill. If their eyes turn red and you are within melee range, it is already too late for you to run away.
Rana's 'canon' storyline has them falling in love with Shadowheart and Lae'Zel, finding a way to spare Minthara despite being tortured by her, rediscovering their past as the leader of the Bhaalist cult, and saving their daughter Mala from being sacrificed by Orin the Red. They found Mala (instead of Yenna) wandering around Rivington. Jaheira recognized her first as she had been acting as Mala's foster mother, since Rana had smuggled Mala away years prior to protect her from the cult (Rana was a victim of familial abuse and SA and Mala is a result of said abuse whom Rana vowed to protect from repeating the cycle of abuse). Rediscovering their progeny put them both in danger as Orin stalked the party and stole that which Rana only just got back.
Rana resorted to killing Orin to protect their child, and renounced Bhaal within the heart of his temple. Bhaal stole back their very blood and life force, disowning them. Rana only lives on because Jergal claimed them as his champion, and while the Red is never fully gone, they finally see clearly for the first time. Before disowning their murder god father, Rana's blood was black deathly ichor of the unholy god, but after Jergal claimed them, their blood became red full of life and vigor.
Ina - (Belongs to my friend Poe, I just happen to be obsessed with her and am the leader of Ina's fanclub) Ina the Kobold is a chaos entity, a zealous oath of glory paladin devoted to a deified Hatsune Miku. She came into existence after my friend rolled up a completely randomized character for a D&D game, and quickly speared her way into my heart with her wacky antics and hilarious zeal for murder.
A little known tidbit about Ina is that she's a sleeper agent, Ina is not her full name. Her true name is Ignition, which is the trigger word to temporarily switch her from chaotic stupid kobold to calculated smart dragonborn. Her Ignition alter ego is scarily competent compared to Ina. She was created in a secret magical experiment and hatched from a magically irradiated dragonborn egg. Ignition voluntarily switches back into Ina the minute whatever mission or danger she was dealing with is complete, as Ina takes far less mental energy to exist.
She is made as a contingency plan for Tiffany, so that in the case she as the queen ever goes off the rails and goes against her own morals, Ina will be there to kill her and bring her back to her senses.
Erinyes - My demonsona as it were, a self insert that morphed kind of into their own entity. They're a cheese-loving fury demon called Erin-yes. I often use them as a chaotic mini-me, and a personification of my silliness and rage. Sometimes I'll shove them into things with varied success. In D&D they'd be a tiefling or cambion as a player character, but as an NPC they've appeared as a literal erinyes devil that tried to sell cheese to the players and tormented them at various points.
Claire - My rage-filled mixed-drow religiously traumatized pyromaniac death cleric. She was raised in a cult to a goddess that stole the name of other gods - Adrestia Andraste, the Lady in White, a homebrew drow goddess of death and war and motherly retribution. Claire's drow mother was the high priestess of the Lady, and in order to become the next high priestess, Claire had to kill her mother in a ritual battle.
Claire walked over enchanted coals, was baptized in holy fire, and slayed a dragon to become the next high priestess of the cult; doing so made her fireproof to everything but her own goddess's flames. On her back they etched an intricate tattoo that brands her as her goddess's chosen, which also allows her goddess to cause her searing pain when she does something she doesn't like. A proverbial shock collar.
Claire is bitter and jaded and tries to escape the cult many times, and eventually discovers the truth of her goddess's identity theft and devotes herself to the goddess's sister Lotte (the victim of the identity theft) instead. Lotte is a drow goddess of fate, death, craftsmanship, and magic, and gives Claire the power to mend and tear the weave of magic itself. Claire is a chosen of both goddesses, one willingly, one unwillingly, and her mission is to break her ties to the Lady in White for good.
Frownless - Ah my favorite eldritch edgelord. Frownless, also called The Frownless or Freddie the Frownless or even Thotarella/Thot by my dnd group (an inside joke), is a shapeshifter known as a shadowless - he doesn't cast a shadow on the ground. Shadowless are akin to eldritch changelings that are descendants of fey celestials exiled to a demiplane. They appear as orange-tinged red haired elven people with four yellow eyes.
Frownless in particular is a notable specimen as he got exiled for killing his cousin in a fit of rage, then made a name for himself as an assassin and overall nuisance. He was hired by Tiff's father to kill her but failed miserably and ended up working for her in a weird toxic relationship instead. He tried dropping a chandelier on her and missed. He loves catfishing people since he's a shapeshifter. I love using him as a punching bag. He ends up Tiff's drug dealer at various points and brings out the worst in her.
OT - My old self insert that morphed into their own entity. This one in particular is tied to their dragon age dalish elf iteration as my main Inquisitor Lavellan. OT is a dalish mage Inquisitor and lover of Josephine Montilyet. Originally named Overtaker as a funny play on Undertaker, and then shortened it to OT for brevity, and even made it stand for different names involving the initials O and T. I even used them the first time I ever played D&D in a oneshot where they ended up dying via magic item enchanted to cast power word kill!
I have a lot of OCs but only a few I routinely use, which as of making this post consist of the above. Other OCs include Lyn, Vrei'Dara, Billie, Domi, Inanna, Dela, Johanna, Jorster, Francis, Lotte, Minaeve, Jamboree, Riff, Kestrel, Grimshaw, Veronica, Atlantea, Styx, Judith, and many others.
Others TBA
[edit 11/13/2024] - {I have streamlined this pinned post slightly, added some stuff, removed a few things}
Anyways enjoy my blog I guess? I'm so wordy at times, I know this is a whole ass wall of text to scroll through. You get an appreciative pat on the shoulder for reading through all this.

The Beauty of Tears of the Kingdom's Music
Soundtracks are always the one aspect of a game I most look forward to with a new game release. Tears of the Kingdom was no exception and it really exceeded my expectations, especially with how perfectly it was utilized. Yes, some songs were reused from Breath of the Wild, but most of the soundtrack is new. The new songs were utilized perfectly within the main story of the game and helped make it, in my opinion, the best story in the franchise. SPOILERS DOWN BELOW. But basically, I think this game definitely deserved its nomination for Best Score/Music in the Game Awards because it helps make the game hit harder.
Okay, so starting with the Temple themes. These themes really help set the overall feel of the Temple they're in. They also build up as you're going through the dungeon, providing a sense of progression. The later phases even include the Champion themes and Divine Beast fight themes of the area you're in. The Construct Factory theme gives off a feeling of mystery, building up to a version of Mineru's theme. Also, while technically not a dungeon, the Gloom's Approach theme is THE perfect endgame area theme. It progressively gets more ominous the deeper you go into the Zonai Castle Ruins. It gets really intense once you reach the area you started the game in: Beneath Hyrule Castle, or rather the Forgotten Foundation.
The town themes before doing the Temples also really help create a sense of urgency that I haven't felt with any other Zelda game before. They scream "Please, save us from the horrible events happening right now... We're not going to last much longer without your help."
The boss themes are also really, really well done. Mucktorok's theme is crazy which fits the boss, Queen Gibdo and Marbled Gohma's themes really fit their overall segments of the game, Colgera's theme is incredible and part of why is due to how it utilizes Dragon Roost Island's theme. My favorite of the Temple boss themes has to be Seized Construct's theme. The way it utilizes Mineru's theme because its still a Construct she made, but its corrupted because its possessed by Gloom is incredible. Kohga's theme is a more intense version of the theme from Breath of the Wild/Age of Calamity and it really shows how he's more pissed off than before because Link sent him to the Depths in Breath of the Wild. Right before you reach Ganondorf, a very intense version of the battle theme plays as you fight waves of enemies trying to prevent you from proceeding. The Sages help Link fight back though if you defeat the Temples. Once you're done with that, you proceed to Ganondorf and his battle themes are INCREDIBLE for a final battle. Phase 1's theme is a really intense build up, then Phase 2 kicks in and parts of BotW's main theme pop in at the beginning then the trailer 3 theme shows up, and then for the final part of the fight a more intense version of the Calamity Ganon theme plays. Once Ganondorf is defeated, he turns himself into a dragon because he is willing to do whatever it takes to conceal the world in darkness. The Demon Dragon Appears is a genuinely incredible transition theme. It starts with a more intense version of the opening of trailer 3's theme, then goes into Ganondorf's theme, then becomes more hopeful as soon as the Light Dragon appears, it ends with an Erhu version of the memory theme from BotW. Then the Demon Dragon theme plays, and its mostly Erhu and god this song is just immaculate in general. The end of the fight has a key change as you descend to deal the final blow.
The songs used in the cutscenes are PERFECTLY used and give the scenes more emotion. Remember This Name is so good, especially when it plays the series main theme when Rauru tells Ganondorf to remember the name Link. The music of the cutscene where Zelda becomes the Light Dragon also helps make this scene hit extremely hard (to the point where I have shed a tear to it all four playthroughs). The use of the Erhu version of Zelda's Lullaby also makes this moment really hit hard, Zelda sacrificed herself thinking she would never turn back all to save her home and people, which Rauru told her is what a good leader would do before the Imprisoning War happened. Oh also the Final Catch theme that plays while you control Link to catch Zelda at the end of the game really helps make this ending a masterpiece. The True Ending theme also brings me to tears and makes watching Mineru move on hurt me even harder than it already did.
The ambient music in this game is INCREDIBLE. Everything from Dragonhead to Spirit Temple really helps make the entire segment feel mysterious yet calming. The Depths theme is really mysterious and eerie feeling, which is fitting considering the atmosphere. The Sky theme on the other hand (pun not intended), is peaceful and heavenly. The theme that plays as you dive down to the surface really makes diving down to the surface more satisfying. Diving down into the Depths also feels satisfying, but evokes a more ominous feeling.
Thank you for reading this dumb essay I wrote because I was bored and wanted to put my thoughts on the soundtrack out there.

i just beat the legend of zelda: the sealed palace (it was fucking fantastic) and i wanna rank all the dungeons because somebody’s gotta lol
11. fire temple
easily the weakest dungeon in the game. it was weirdly small for an adult dungeon and its position in the game (it was the second to last dungeon before ganon for me), and the stuff we got in it was really underwhelming. rooms ranged from bland to obtuse to frustrating. the only dungeon i didn’t like.
10. dodongo’s cavern
not a bad dungeon at all! i was actually really impressed by it the first time through cuz it was only the second dungeon i did. but it really isn’t all that special compared to the rest of the dungeons in the game, and it’s VERY similar to OG dodongo’s cavern which is unfortunate.
9. forest grotto
great first dungeon. it was a visual delight and actually had a pretty interesting layout. of course it was very simplistic being the first dungeon in the game but that’s not a bad thing. just means other dungeons could expand upon it.
8. forest temple
this one was solid, it just doesn’t hold up well compared to the og forest temple which is one of the best in ocarina of time. the main highlight for me was the one room in the basement that was blue and glowy, otherwise it was just fine. this is one where i really was yearning for minimaps lol
7. ice cavern
i love that the mini dungeons in this game feel worth a damn. i probably spent more time in here than the fire temple honestly. it functions mostly as a bridge between the second and third main child dungeons but i still greatly enjoyed my time here. loved the music, the visuals, and the layout.
6. sunken alcove
another mini dungeon that was really damn good! this one felt appropriately watery as it was the place where you get the iron boots and right before the water temple proper. it felt plenty substantial, was really well themed, and super satisfying to finish since i was dying to get the iron boots at this point.
5. ganon’s castle
really awesome final dungeon. using the layout of hyrule castle from the start of the game as the final dungeon was brilliant, and made traversing this area a treat. really not a lot to complain about here, it was just super fun and a great way to end off the game (unlike the og ganon’s castle lmao)
4. church catacombs
for some reason this is the only adult temple that didn’t follow the naming scheme, with this functionally being the shadow temple. either way, this dungeon ruled. it was super goddamn tough, had a confusing layout with a lot of confusing rooms, and required a hell of a lot of thought, especially considering when i did it (it was my second adult dungeon). just an awesome time all around, plus it was cool having both the lens of truth and hover boots as dungeon items in the same dungeon.
3. water temple
i was shocked that they managed to successfully incorporate the og water temple’s gimmick into this dungeon, and make a dungeon bigger and more confusing than said og. it was a joy to decipher the ins and outs of this dungeon, i love a good puzzle box dungeon and this was that and so much more. definitely lived up to the original which is probably my favorite in ocarina of time.
2. spirit temple
i’m surprised they managed to make this work honestly. having the dungeon change depending on whether it was day or night was fucking awesome, and it made traversing this dungeon require a lot of thought. plus it was a visual delight, having an entirely different desert temple vibe compared to the og spirit temple, and even getting some variety thanks to the time of day changing up how the dungeon worked. just very impressive all around, especially considering this is a rom hack.
1. link’s nightmare
wow. i can’t believe they managed to take elements from jabu jabu’s belly, the worst dungeon in og ocarina of time, and change them into something incredible. the entrance to the dungeon being inside a mansion at the top of a snowy mountain, the aesthetic starting off as adjacent to ganon’s castle and then morphing into jabu jabu partway through, the music, the fact that you’re a child for all of it, just the fact that it’s called link’s goddamn nightmare is cool. it definitely wasn’t as tough or mind bending as the previous three on this list, but it absolutely wins on creativity alone for me. this is honestly the biggest reason to play this hack imo, it was really something special (also, barinade being the best boss in ocarina of time and it being the boss here is just a nice bonus).
#zelda#the legend of zelda#ocarina of time#the sealed palace#it’s so funny cuz i played this right after i dropped another hack called master of time#that hack was fucking terrible#and it had me assuming that it was way harder than you’d think to make a good hack of ocarina of time#then this game slapped me across the face with its quality#every fan of n64 zelda needs to give this a shot#it was an absolute delight

Dungeon Appreciation Post #1 - Inside The Great Deku Tree (TLoZ: Ocarina of Time)
I want to take time to highlight individual dungeons that have something worth learning from, or maybe just to highlight the art of the dungeon itself, and have a place to record my thoughts when I come across something cool in a game, or a TTRPG mag.
I though that the best place to start, for me, would be to take a look at the first dungeon I ever laid eyes on, and that's the first dungeon in the first video game I ever played, The Great Deku Tree from Ocarina of Time.
My general way of thinking of dungeons is yes, they are designed, and will have mechanics specific to the game they exist in, so a dungeon from one game wouldn't just work in another. However, I want to look at, I don't know, vibes?
What are the aesthetics of the dungeon, and how does it sell it's premise? I could imagine by divorcing the dungeon design itself from game-specific lore and mechanics, one could even use those conceptual elements to inspire dungeons in their own TTRPG campaigns and indie games. Of course I'm interested in game mechanics, but also I appreciate the fantasy that a dungeon conveys in a vaccum, and I wanted to highlight them. I'm not making a Zelda game, and Zelda doesn't implement dungeons like a DRPG, but dungeons are important to Zelda, so how did it's dungeons make me feel?
Premise: A giant sentient tree, a guardian of a forest community of secretive, child-like fairy people (and actual fairies) is cursed, threatening the forest folk, and you must enter the great tree itself to end the curse.
Design: You start at the base of the tree, entering at ground level. The general progression of the dungeon is to climb all the way up (a natural thing to do with a tree), in order to be able to jump down and break through the webbing in the floor to reach the underground. I think an initial smaller dungeon that expands like this is great for the early game, and the theme (a tree) naturally suggests what direction you should head (up).
You'll notice that each floor in the main chamber extends only in a straight progression, imitating tree branches, and I love when the interior of the dungeon matches the exterior, and strong theming that implies a purpose or shape. The branches are quite thick and few in number, admittedly, but I love that the upper floors limit themselves to this design.
The lower floors are allowed to expand a bit more, as the player is more comfortable at this point, and I originally thought everything below ground may have been the insides of roots, but while some texture look like knotted wood and roots, others look like stone, so it appears you emerge in a cavernous space with running water beneath ground, possibly a disused old dungeon or sewer judging by the torches and grates in the water. Using the torches to burn away more webbing was also particularly evocative.
The pillars in the corners of some rooms appear to be wood, and the chamber directly beneath the tree has clear grey roots spreading out. This color is matched by the pillars in the boss room, which make me think they are actually large roots, and while the cursed monster isn't then inside the tree itself, it's climbing right along the roots.
Monsters: The dungeon is mostly populated by giant cursed spiders with skull patterns, and stationary man-eating plants. Neither gives chase or attacks unless you get close, giving the impression of being overrun with cursed insect and plant life that's sucking the guardian tree's life force, if not exactly intelligent life. There are also intelligent bush-covered plant men who speak riddles and spit seeds, but they're actually helpful, and seem to exist separately from the monster infestation. The boss and source of the curse is a massive arachnid(?) covered in a carapace that's reminiscent of a crustacean, and you also fight it's larva in a few rooms, selling the idea that it's a spreading infection.
Treasure: Like all dungeons in the game, there's a dungeon map and compass, and some extra life in it for the adventurer, but those are OoT's game mechanics. The real treasure is a slingshot (implied magical by the name Fairy Slingshot, though seem pretty normal).
So that's it, and I think like a ton of people, The Great Deku Tree made a lasting impression on me. This was an easy one, lots of people know this dungeon already. I think one major thing it teaches is that dungeons don't have to be castles, caves, or keeps, but that units of space can be made out of natural environments.

Back again, sorry op (I put a tldr at the end this time lol)
Anyways, now that depends on what exactly "complex" means here!
If it’s "how many knots will open if I cut a single string on this conspiracy board”, yea no that’s still fnaf, by a mile. Exact same reasons as to why fnaf got the more confusing lore of the two.
But if complex means "how much is there and how does it fan out”, that’s a bit trickier. Fnaf still has its interwoven-ness going for it (not a word but pls pretend it is one), while Zelda’s simply got its setting and sheer size of the world on its side. Not so much long strings going through the whole series, but instead a lot of shorter connections forming a whole thing.
Basically, Fnaf lore is like a pile of necklaces after they’ve been jumbled for 10 years straight, while Zelda lore is a very, very big Venn diagram with lots of circles everywhere, if that makes sense?
But! By changing it from "confusing” to "complex”, you can now throw the world building of these games into the mix. Neither of them have are that confusing imo, it’s usually pretty clear what any given part of details in the environment is trying to say. It’s just how that something connects with everything else that makes the difference.
Fnaf’s world building and stuff is always there to further the one big underlying main story that’s been told throughout the games. Like how most of fnaf 1’s lore comes from the posters on the walls of the surroundings you’re playing in, the custom mode golden freddy scares, the iv drop at your bed in Fnaf 4, etc. It’s very clear what all those say, it’s just how it connects with everything else that it gets messy. That TV screen saying 1983 makes it clear that the crying child got bite of 83’d by golden freddy, but what the heck does it mean when the gf jumpscares happen by typing 1987. What does it mean, Scott. Are you just doing this to torture us and Matpat, Scott. (And the thing is, the way fnaf lore is written there’s always a low chance that it might genuinely be the reason)
Meanwhile Zelda’s environmental storytelling is there to flesh out the world you’re playing in. Just going "hey this random ice cave behind a blocked wall looks different than regular caves. There’s canons and wall decor similar to that one dungeon heavily implied to be a former military base. Yea this was probably a smaller outpost or bunker from back then, and was left there after that war against the Gerudo or maybe even had to be evacuated after the cold suddenly dropped in, and the lack of use might be why it was blocked off.” Also that part about the Gerudo is it’s own whole thing involving the implied story telling of 1.5 dungeons that kinda ties into that particular games’ theme of light and shadow and it mixing and the "sins of the father" and such, but also if you took that part out from the thing about the bunker-cave it. Wouldn’t change anything in regard to the cave. If this were like fnaf, you’d have taken 5 theories with you by doing that.
And now do that but like. For every single semi-important location of every single game in the past 40 years, without fail.
Fnaf lore exists to tell you the long intertwined story of one single pizza chain and it’s murderous founder, while Zelda has little impact on the story itself but makes the world feel more like an actual, well, world, with its own history and people to care about at every corner.
So imo, if going by the second definition of complex, the lore of these games is not even comparable to begin with because they’re set out to to the exact opposite?
TLDR really depends on what you count as complex and if can even compare them, ig.
once again for educational purposes
He got mad and said "complex" and "confusing" are way different
Other poll: this

@aureateart ok. My favourite parts of twilight princess (and some other random thoughts about TP sprinkled in there) taken from my monster TP word vomit google doc :
Link lmao
Ok but for real, I like this incarnation of Link :)
I love Ordon (it just seems like such a chill and cozy village)
ALSO love how easy it is to interpret Link as being a sort of older brother figure to the Ordon kiddos. It’s just,, super cute? AND GHHH nice nice good thanks nintendo for giving me characters to care about/characters that I can imagine Link caring about
He didn’t sign up for any of this (tbh, none of the Links really signed up for this jshdjsd). But I mean like, dude was just going to take a trip to castle town, drop a gift off for the royal family, and come back. But haHA oopsies he did get to castle town eventually but definitely not the way he expected hsjdhsd
He’s just a little dude?
AND FUCK. HE REALLY HAD NEVER BEEN OUTSIDE OF ORDON UNTIL ALL OF THAT
everything is new for the player AND Link
Midna
She’s cool :)
she really just
*teleports into your jail cell* hello whore.
I am no master at writing but AYYYY she do got a character arc!!!
She was actually pretty helpful sometimes, I ALWAYS checked in with her before turning to a game guide
Other NPCs
NICE
Love all of the TP character designs (ASHEI’S ARMOUR??? AOWOAOAOOAO)
Saving Zelda and all of Hyrule was important yea but thinking back maybe it was more like, the Ordonians and the kids were what was pushing Link to keep on going
I like the Resistance members :) Very video gamey of them to have one NPC assigned to each dungeon but hey!!! Kinda cool getting to see a little glimpse of each of em
Idk, it’s just fun to imagine Link popping into Telma’s bar after each dungeon and taking a little rest :) (or to celebrate? maybe just chat, idk, give this man some downtime!!)
Honestly it was just kind of nice that Link wasn’t entirely alone. I mean, I know Midna was there the whole time, but I am always for giving Link a big group of friends (see my love for hyrule warriors, age of calamity, and LU LMAO)
Hero’s shade, very very cool, kinda sad he died with regrets but HEY. He got to pass on his knowledge eventually
AND the connection to OoT?? AND assumed to be related by blood too????? GOOD SHIT
Ilia, I REALLY really wanted to like her (er, it’s not like I dislike her, she’s just,,, kinda there for me).
It definitely seems like Nintendo was pushing to make her the romantic interest, but GHHHHH they really threw that out of the window for me by having her lose her memories
I saw a text post a while ago that said it would have been interesting if Ilia was Link’s sister instead and YES!! That would have been cool too :0
Wish we got to know Zelda a little more
I feel like we barely know anything about her
Idk man, like I said earlier, I never really had any sort of drive to save Zelda during my playthroughs
She obviously knows Midna, so maybe if they gave us just a little bit more of that relationship I’d be more interested in her?
TP WORLD BUILDINGGGG
Botw has good world building too, but each race felt kinda,,, isolated? I absolutely love the different architecture and vibe each town has (and all the the weapons too) but ghhh yea everyone felt so separated. As far as I can remember, we don’t see tooo much of the races interacting with each other? Now that I’m typing that out maybe that’s to be expected because of the calamity but KLSJDKJFD ANYWAYS THIS IS ABOUT TP
The world feels nice and alive, love how populated everything is
Castle town I like castle town a lot, it feels dense and busy and I really like how you can’t talk to every NPC you see
Very cool very fun that we got to see the Gorons hanging out in multiple spots
kinda wish we got to see the Zoras a little more (I guess they are a bit limited since they need water but GHHHH the tp zoras are so prebby,,)
BUT HEY, I do remember seeing a zora or two hanging out in the hot springs around death mountain after beating the lakebed temple (I think, might have been a different dungeon)
but aaaa would have been nice to see them in at least a couple of other places. I think it would have really added to the “congrats Link!! You’re restoring peace to Hyrule” feeling you get from seeing the Gorons hanging out in Kakariko and Castle Town
ORDON
Love how chill it is and how it’s kind of separate from Hyrule proper
They really do seem to be doing their own thing apart from the rest of Hyrule
Just kinda adds onto the “he’s just a regular dude minding his own business” kind of vibes I get from TP Link
Also I like Ordona :)
THE LIGHT SPIRITS,,
Love their design
And love how they’re not exactly like a pure white?
Different spirit representing each aspect of the triforce my beloved
But yes hi I think Ordona is very cool
Who are you, how did you get here, which goddess do you represent? Do you even represent one of the three golden goddesses? Do the Ordonians know about you? Have any of them ever SEEN you??? Do they worship you? Does anybody even know about the existence of the light spirits?? FUCK so many questions but ghhh I like how they broke the status quo a bit by throwing in a fourth spirit :)
I feel like this one is kinda weird but I like that voice sample they used in the light spirit music. It’s spooky and pretty at the same time :)
cutscenes mmmmm
Ok ok, the spooky lanayru cutscene is very good
BUT THE “Link, Chosen Hero! Lend us the last of your power!” CUTSCENE MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM LOVE IT SO MUCH
IT just
Idk man
It just hit different
I like the music
And seeing the light spirits swimming around in the light juice water whatever it is
Summoning the light arrows?
AND HHHHH “Lend us the last of your power!” THIS IS IT. This is the final battle.
Seeing Zelda bow down, and then Link putting his hand out 👌👌👌
Link: ok bud, let’s do this together :)
Connection to OoT (did I already mention this? Maybe., Whatever)
Very cool nintendo :)
I love seeing connections between all the diff zelda games.
Because like, on one hand, they’re all separate from each other because of yknow, individual hero stuff. BUT ALSO, they’re all connected because of the reincarnation stuff
Grrrr walking through the sacred grove and going “The Hero of Time walked around here a long time ago” FUCK THATS SO COOL
Is the Hero’s Shade watching me? What does he think of me? DIsappointed? Proud? The Hero of Time went through HELL so this timeline didn’t have to deal with any of the shit Ganon was gonna pull with the triforce, better not fuck this UP Link!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Midlink is cute
Kinda hurts that she smashed the mirror but that was probably so Nintendo didn’t have to worry about people going “but what about the twili??????” for any of the other games LMAO
BUT ALSO LIKE SKJDKLJFJ There are some pretty massive plot holes in TP anyway so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ whatever it’s fine we’ll just use this for angst because GOD do y’all like angst
So is Shadlink
Honestly don’t know where this ship came from but it’s cute so whatever
THE MUSIC??
Love Midna’s theme and how they referenced the dark world theme from ALttP (I remember trying to learn the dark world theme on the piano and doing the Leonardo DiCaprio point meme at the little jingle I recognized from Midna’s theme)
Hyrule field theme SLAPS.
Apparently references a couple of the other over-world themes from the previous zelda games (I got this from 8-bit Music theory’s video on the over-world zelda themes, he talks about TP at around 11:40 but def recommend watching the whole video if you’re into music analysis stuff)
So there’s this bit of the Hyrule Field theme, I don’t know the official name for it but I remember seeing somewhere it being called the “at an advantage theme” since yeah, you hear it during the boss music whenever you expose their weak points. FUCKINGGG LOVE THAT. Didn’t notice it during my first playthrough, but hearing it during my second was like a little easter egg for my ears every time :)
Midna’s lament is very pretty (and fun to play on the piano)
COURAGE THEME.
I didn’t care for it too much when I started playing the game but hearing it in ZREO’s arrangement of the Hyrule Field theme literally makes me turn into a puddle of emotions. Also hearing it around and of the Ordon kids (I think it plays after Link saves Colin) AAAAAAAAAAAAA
Orchestra piece #1 and #2 HOLY SHIT????????????????
Literally, the first time I listened to those I just,,,, plugged in my headphones, volume 100, layed on the floor/against my desk and silently vibed. I don’t know what the hell it is, but those two just fit so well with TP?? I still avoid listening to them nowadays cause if I DO I definitely will get overwhelmed with the “god I love this game so FUCKING MUCH” kind of feels.
Wolf link sucks at singing
the first time I heard him howling Zelda’s Lullaby I lost my shit because LKSJLDKSGLKJFSKG god that was.,, Bad. Anyways, hearing him howl some of the songs from OoT was cute :)
TP STAFF ROLL???
VERY GOOD. IT’s like 10 minutes long and GOD do I love every single second of it. It doesn’t have the same energy as the skyward sword staff roll or the orchestra pieces but GOD does it hit good??
Nice and calm after that big exciting adventure. Maybe it would have been more fun or emotional to have a higher energy piece but it was really nice getting to sit back and watch the camera fly around Hyrule. Seeing like, the Gorons and the Zoras having a good time, the kids returning to Ordon? GOOD SHIT.
and AAAAA that end, when you hear the main Zelda theme and see Link riding off out of Faron woods on Epona… good shit. It gets you thinking, where the hell is he going? What is he doing? Off ot do more adventuring? Going to help out the resistance or something? Going to help Zelda? Or maybe he’s trying to figure out a way to restore the mirror of twilight? Whoooo knows.
hhHHHHhhh it’s just that final reminder that YES!!! YOU JUST PLAYED A ZELDA GAME. JUST ANOTHER STORY APART OF THE WHOLE EPIC OF THE ZELDA SERIES AS A WHOLE
I also want to acknowledge the instrument/samples they used for all the twili stuff.
They’re all just so unique and contrast SO well with the rest of the TP OST. LIKE FUCK!! Anytime I hear the screech from the Twilit Kargarok? Sends a shiver down my spine. I associate those sounds SO strongly with the twili realm. (Like, the same way you associate the BSHEWW VVWWMMM sounds with light sabers)
I love it so god damn much
literally any time there’s a certain sound or motif associated with something I lose my shit
Sacred grove sacred grove sacred gro-
lovely lovely lovely so much fun playing that on the piano. AND again, I did the Leonardo DiCaprio pointing meme when I heard the theme from the lost woods come in GHHHHHHHH
shoutout to TP Faron Woods for helping me study and get through all of my schoolwork
BLEGUUHHH can you tell that I really love music?
and also yea I guess TP is kinda cool too :\
IF YOU READ ALL OF THAT THANKS I GUESS
