Scientists believe that zebra stripes deter insects. To test this theory, researchers painted black and white stripes on cows. Their experiment showed that this pattern reduced the number of biting flies landing on the cows by more than 50%.

Four primroses blooming in containers right now: the red ones, first and fourth, are Primula eliator ‘Gold Lace’ aka bumblebee primrose and the other two which I grew from seed started in 2020 are Primula auricula, an alpine species. I feel like I could so easily become completely obsessed with growing as many kinds of these as possible. They are, as I’ve heard said of some kinds of food, more-ish!

I believe the bird is a greater blue-eared starling, and the zebras are definitely zebras.

Stripes are always the answer, whether you want to stand out or blend in! It’s International Zebra Day, and we’re celebrating one of planet Earth’s most iconic species: the zebra. Found in parts of Eastern and Southern Africa, these equids can run as fast as 40 mph (64.4 kph). A zebra’s stripes are also as distinct as human fingerprints—no two animals have the same pattern! But what purpose do they serve? The short answer is that we aren’t sure. Scientists have hypothesized that zebras’ bold patterns may confuse predators, creating an optical illusion that blurs each individual’s outline in a herd. Other research suggests that zebra stripes might repel disease-carrying flies or aid in thermoregulation.

Hey everyone! this is where the zebra is currently with the design.
It has knee braces!! I will most probably be drawing the zebra usually with them on, but it’s no requirement, for example if anyone else wants to draw the zebra :-]. I always like to make sure an animal design has official colors underneath any clothing and accessory anyway. I think this will be final! thank you everyone for your feedback!

As a reminder, aside from why the zebra was requested for this flag, this is also just a zebra with the disability pride flag on it. It’s just a deisgn to fit the flag, with input from other disabled people in our community. It doesn’t mean other animals can’t have designs with these colors, too! I don’t mean this design to be the only mascot for all disabled people. It’s just a silly series i do of pride animals, and at the time, during disability pride month, I wanted to see what everyone wanted me to start off with for this flag!
the goal with my pride animals is to take requests and make people feel happy and seen.. that’s all <:-)

Glad your phone didn't explode to get this video! I love watching spiders molt though, what a process. Wish I could do that. Please tell them they're beautiful now! And also they were before. And will always be in the future.
