Dreimal verfluchter schwarzer Rabe Entsetzlich, wie der Blick mich quält - Und wieder sehe die Augen Das eine starrt, das andere fehlt
- Fluchtversuch (ASP)
Decided it's time to redraw the many (many, many) Krabat (and Zaubererbruder) themed illustrations I made in the past. Started with this one because I'm low-key proud of the comic book vibe :)

When I say I'm feeling the Krabat (ASP) vibe its either the entirety of Zaubererbruder or that one line in Der Schnitter Tod going "Heut wetzt er sein Messer, es schneid' schon viel besser"

one of my favourite things when it comes to music is when a band makes a whole album that tells a connected story and i don't mean in a vague 'this album is about love/grief/etc' kind of way i mean it in the 'these two albums tell the story of a man who becomes a hotel janitor and then starts murdering guests to feed the horrifying otherwordly entity that inhabits the bowels of the building' kind of way

Can you tell us more about the Krabat rock opera 🥺
sure! :) it's a pretty small production by the Junge Bühne Sindelfingen and I would probably not have heard about it, if my friend wasn't starring in it (he was one of the miller men). it was loosely inspired by ASP's Zaubererbruder album but all the songs are completely new and written by the some of the actors. The mastermind behind the whole thing is the guy who plays the master!
they didn't really use any of the books as inspiration but the old sorbian tale itself. The rock opera was divided into two acts, the first one was how Krabat ended up at the mill, how he met the girl and how the master had her killed. full of rage he ended up stealing the masters book and running away. then there's a timeskip and in the second act we follow an adult Krabat going back to the mill. He was supposed to kill the master and take his place and then he has this internal struggle of wanting more power and wanting the people and the miller men to be safe and free
for such a small production it was so well done and the music and special effects were great! since it was so small though, there were very limited dates of when they are performing. but they plan on releasing all the songs on spotify around fall, so i'm looking forward to that. the guy behind it is also planning on selling the whole thing so it can be performed on bigger stages in the future!
they have a website with trailers and song snippets and all, but it's only in german. you can check out the trailer here!

2, 3, 14, 15, 22, 29 & 32? 🎧
[music asks]
2. an album you wish you could hear again for the first time
Tempted to say "Endlich!" by ASP, because it completely blew my mind when I listened to it last year, but actually I still remember that very clearly, so I'm actually saying "Zaubererbruder" by ASP, because I knew a lot of the songs before I got the album and I'd love to experience it as ONE, with every song being new and unexpected.
3. a song you really like by an artist you otherwise don’t listen to very much (whether that’s because you usually don’t like their music, or just because you haven’t listened to the rest yet)
"Slow Burn" by Kacey Musgraves. I have no idea what kind of music she makes usually, haven't heard a single other song by her, and I'm not exactly looking to change that, but I found "Slow Burn" in one of my fave playlists at work and I love it.
14. is there any band/musician who you really strongly dislike? if so, why?
Uuuh, I don't really keep track of what I don't like xD But I'll say FreiWild, but mostly because their fans really annoyed me that one time.
15. have you ever traveled outside of your area to see a concert? if not, would you want to?
Yup, I once travelled like four hours for a Powerwolf concert (because Erfurt was the furthest north they went on that tour???), and I actually planned a whole vacation around one ASP concert a couple years back. Also went to Bremen for PAIN once (roughly ~three hour drive at that time), and then of course the four hour drive for the DDF Live Show. And depending on the band I would absolutely do it again!
22. name a song that reminds you of one of your best memories
This is a little silly, and I don't even know the artist and I'm too lazy to look it up, but "Everybody Dance Now". Because it was on the radio a lot during my first year at drama club and the people two grades above me (the majority of the other actors) were always singing that and in the end we actually set a scene to that in our play.
29. is there any song that you mostly like, but there’s one specific part of it that you don’t like as much? if so, what is it?
Can't think of anything rn, sorry!
32. what is a band/artist you really wanted to start listening to, but you just really couldn’t get into it?
Amon Amarth. For uh crush reasons I really wanted to like them, and they do have a couple songs I enjoy (especially "Guardians of Asgaard" and "Where Is Your God?") but I never really got into them.

WIP GAME
@writingowl1985 tagged me in the one writing meme that was made for me:
RULES: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it.
WIP is relative, but this is the stuff I haven't completely given up on yet (not listed: the >100 documents in my "abandoned" folder :')):
ACAB
Der Teufel ist der erste Weg zur Besserung
Da, wo wir nicht sind
Es ist Mittwoch, meine Kerle
Jetzt laden die Vampire zum Tanz
Lights Will Guide You Home
Nessaja
Pokémon AU
Zaubererbruder
tagging, if you want: @hazelestelle (and everyone who suddenly remembered their 500 WIPs, lmao)

I hope I translated this right!
If I did not, I am so sorry, I am still learning!!!
This is one of my favourite songs, though.
Zaubererbruder
Sorcerer Brother
Sorceror brother, Where have you been all these dark years?
I do not know how long you have no longer been with us.
Have you visited foreign countries and navigated the oceans?
And stood seemingly close enough to touch stars in the night sky?
Sorceror brother, it seems far too long since we remembered the same incantation.
And the sign of brotherhood we painted on our foreheads.
With the voice of our wishes fulfilled and dreams are captured
The world in their hands and paid with words.
Have seen much
Have chased dreams
Had to withstand much
Have risked everything
I've loved too much
And taken all,
Have given everything and more
Have seen much
Have chased dreams
Sorceror brother, I was barely looking up and I waited beneath the thumb
We gave the power and the youth of our Lord
I also wanted to be free and I bled for the master;
I want so much to travel the world with you.
Sorceror brother, you have kept the secret to keep your head
Who could not find hope and help you?
Sorceror brother, much harder it is to lend a hand rather than just to fold.
Everywhere I went, there it was both better and worse than is here.
Have seen much
Have chased dreams
Had to withstand much
Have risked everything
I've loved too much
And taken all,
Have given everything and more
Have seen much
Have chased dreams
Sorceror brother, I fought for days with the dragon
And at night with werewolves
Saw blue cyclops
And ran with the Unicorn
Sorceror brother,
I've kissed mermaids
And seen the island of the Elves
I traveled to the world's end
and there I found a country
Where every man was free,
Willing to help each other
Where every man kept to his word
And was in labor and bread
Have seen much
Have chased dreams
Had to withstand much
Have risked everything
I've loved too much
And taken all,
Have given everything and more
Have seen much
Have chased dreams
It was all too beautiful,
And I have told the truth.

Went to another ASP concert and they performed "Denn ich bin der Meister" and the live-version slaps so hard. ASP had way too much fun playing the Master, it was great.
The song is 15 years old, I feel so lucky. Still haven't fully recovered haha 🙈

Bin ich der einzige, der "ich bin das, was ich esse" anstatt von "ich bin das, was ich spreche" in Verwandlungen I-III verstanden hat? Nein, nur ich? Okay.

The Oldest Game
If you enjoyed The Oldest Game in The Sandman, you might like this version of a similar battle. It’s a song by the German band ASP, from a concept album about the legend of Krabat, depicting a duel between a dark wizard and one of his enslaved students. The lyrics are translated in the video.
youtube
And if you are into dark mythology (you like Sandman, of course you are!) you should probably check out Krabat. It's a sorbian legend about a young man who makes a deal with a dark magician, becoming one of his 12 pupils. Unfortunately the magician has a deal with the devil and has to sacrifice one of the boys every year. It's a beautiful and dark tale, the most famous version is the one by Otfried Preußler, but there is also a beautiful old Czech cutout animation movie.
