☾⁺˖ – i go by Sydney or Lyth! i'm 23, queer, and canadian! my favourite dinosaur is yutyrannus, my favourite Colour is Purple, and in my extra downtime i love playing d&d, drawing stuff like character designs and self portraits, being a dino online, and observing nature because it is just so cool !!!

☾⁺˖ – i used to be a super huge arachnophobe, like my legs would shake at the sight of a vacant spiderweb, but one day i had to share my shower with a bitty little false widow male and found him so cute and fascinating that i realized i wanted to observe more of them. i let him go free, but a day later found a false widow female in my bed, and then a week later a little wolf spider on my curtains, and so on... so here i am !!

☾⁺˖ – at the time of this post, i have 4 true spiders!! Zarra and Crocotta are my steatoda (borealis). i found both of them around my bed. Crocotta seems a bit younger, and Zarra is my OG spood, and still fucking gravid and making eggsacs. Sybaris is my pardosa wolf spider, god knows anything more specific than that, they're active and spunky but very small. i found them with 7 legs but they grew it back in their first molt with me!! and last but certainly not least is Karkinos, the ground crab spider (xysticus something or other?) i found just a couple days ago! all pictured below respectively 🕺

i'm looking forward to learning more and more about these 8-legged backyard friends and maybe even help to spread the love for them with my own little beasties !! 💜🕷️🪻 (i'll be attending an expo mid aug for a jumper or two!)

Jysgo moved through the empty landscape, almost graceful in his execution.

3 o'clock. Pew. his silenced pistol directed a bullet at the target with casual ease

10 o'clock. Pew. he knew to adjust for the slight disruption from the gloves.

6 o'clock. Pew. it was pretty soothing going through such a familiar routine

2 o'clock, close range. pistol away garrote out and choke him out

9 o'clock 3 o'clock. flick one end of the garrote around 3's wrist, dodge 9's swing and wrap up their wrist as they over shoot, gun out. Pew. straight through both hearts

7 o'clock, projectile inbound. Pew. shoot away the knife before flicking back with his own

4 o'clock. BANG! Jysgo looked at his gun. this wasn't the gun he did his work with, too loud, too easily traced, and where are his gloves? he looks at the target

"Jysgy" the familiar figure said, a trickle of blood dripping from a single expertly placed hole in her forehead

Jysgo jolted out of his trance. his breathing heavy. he reached into his coat and took out his gun. safety on, too cool to have been shot recently, all bullets accounted for. he had to make sure.

he got out of his chair and left his office heading for the master bedroom. and silently cracked open the door and peeked in, the bright early evening light filtering in through the window onto a form lying motionless on the bed, blank eyes slowly blinking up at the ceiling in trance, a raccoon curled up on her chest.

he breathed a small sigh of relief, just a bad dream. Jysgo headed back to his office and his rest. he was just about to slip back in when the door opened

"Jysgy?" Zarra stood in the doorway, Grabby Hands dangling annoyed from being awoken from her arms, the right one of which she unconsciously held. "I had a bad dream, could I trance in here with you?"

Jysgo sighed "I have some cushions in the drawers over there you can use. the possum better stay out of my stuff"

"Grabby Hands is a raccoon"

"whatever"

"and thanks Jysgy"

"yeah yeah, now set up a seat and trance already, i got some work tonight"

Zarra got to work setting up a makeshift trance spot with a faint smile, she knew Jysgo cared, you nervously don't check in on someone like he did if you didn't

Back in 2022 the EBU was originally gonna allow Russia to participate on the basis that the Eurovision "Is not a political contest" even though it very much is.

Ukraine initially protested this but they, still, didn't budge.

Only after Finland, Estonia and Iceland threatened to withdraw (I think it was these three) and only then did the EBU decide to suspend Russia on the basis that their broadcaster was spreading misinformation and propaganda regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The official statement given was not that they had an issue with one of the contestants actively invading another, rather that they weren't being honest about it.

It's worth noting that each country has to pay a participation fee based on their population. In other words, a country like Poland is not paying the same amount of money as a country like San Marino. You can therefore see why the EBU did not want to lose Russia. If one country with large population leaves that means the participation cost for the remaining ones will rise. In fact, Russia's expulsion has inadvertently caused Bulgaria's, North Macedonia's and Montenegro's withdrawal as they could no longer afford the participation fee. This year, Romania, a country with a large population but facing financial difficulties is possibly also withdrawing. Their participation is still up in the air, well after the period to announce their participation has ended, and Australia also took quite a well to finalize negotiations for their participation.

Just like they did with Russia, the EBU has already announced that they do not intend to ban Israel and unless no other countries complain about it and threaten to withdraw, like Estonia, Finland and Iceland did before for Russia, they're gonna keep Israel around.

I'm not here to discuss who should be allowed in and who not, because if we start with Israel then we should also take Azerbaijan, Serbia and every single northwestern European country that retains colonies around the world out too, but my point is, if the EBU's official reasoning for expelling Belarus was that they were trying to send a propaganda song and for Russia was that their broadcaster was spreading propaganda, I don't see how Israel's broadcaster isn't doing the exact same thing about the ongoing situation in Palestine.

didn't make it to zarra's eggs on time this time. they grew legs. they are groovin. i cannot care for two hundred steatoda babies. so they will be feral little spiderlings. farewell to the spider who taught me how to love. by invading my bedsheets. on just the right evening. o7
