Studio Ghibli | 1995 | Whisper of the Heart
Beautifully made and a masterpiece with a lot of great advice for anyone who's feeling a bit lost or confused in life. The entire film progresses at a steady, calm pace, but every so often a gem is thrown in that makes you really stop and wonder.
Here are some great advices from the movie:
"You see that rough surrounding stone? You can polish it all you want, but it'll still be worthless. But there might be something much more valuable inside that you can't yet see." - Shirou Nishi
"Not everyone has to follow the same path." - Seiya Tsukishima
"You're wonderful. There's no need to rush. Please take your time to polish your talent." - Shirou Nishi
"Being left alone has its hard parts too." - Shizuku Tsukishima
"One person stays the same and the other keeps getting farther and farther ahead." - Shizuku Tsukishima
"Can't you be in love without determining your future first?" - Yuuko Harada
"It's not easy to live your own way. You can't blame anyone but yourself." - Seiya Tsukishima
"Don't expect perfection at first." - Shirou Nishi

Day 1 - Bandai Myu
Let’s celebrate @sera-myu-week by watching the musical that started it all!
1993 Summer - Spin-off - The Dark Kingdom Resurrection Chapter
You can also download this musical along with all 25 recorded Bandai Musicals at Seaofserenity.net.
This musical acts as an alternate sequel to the first season of the original 1990′s anime. This is the show that started it all debuting actors and actresses who would go on to be involved in the Bandai produced Sailor Moon musicals for many years. This show also features the only BanMyu which includes Luna and Artemis in the cast.
This musical is the first Sera Myu show to debut in 1993. It is also the first musical for Anza Ohyama as Sailor Moon, as well as the popular first Sailor Mercury actress, Ayako Morino. This is the show that starts it all and many of the cast go one to be involved in later Bandai produced Sailor moon musicals. This musical acts as a direct sequel to the first season of the original anime, being the only musical to directly relate to the anime series and have direct references to it. This is also the only musical where Luna and Artemis were characters in the story.  Neither of the cats are cast in a Sailor Moon musical until 25 years later with the Nogizaka 46 x Sailor Moon musical project, which has Luna in the form of a puppet.
It's kaiteiban (revision) was unfortunately never released on VHS or DVD, so this is the only version of the musical that is available to watch.
Usagi and her friends are looking forward to their upcoming summer vacation, hoping it to be filled with lots of fun and romance. However, Usagi has a dream where Queen Beryl declares the revival of the Dark Kingdom. Luna is rightful upset, as Usagi's dreams and premonitions come true. Ami, Rei, Mako and Minako are skeptical but soon the resurrection of the Dark Kingdom becomes apparent. Once again, the Sailor Soldiers much return to D Point in order to save Tuxedo Mask from Queen Beryl and the Four Heavenly Kings.
Can Usagi and her friends save Mamoru and the Earth or will the Dark Kingdom’s plans actually come to fruition...?
Starring:
Anza Ohyama as Usagi Tsukino / Sailor Moon Ayako Morino as Ami Mizuno / Sailor Mercury Hiroko Nakayama as Rei Hino/Sailor Mars Kanoko as Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter Nana Suzuki as Minako Aino/Sailor Venus Mizuki Sano as Mamoru Chiba/Tuxedo Mask

META / REFERENCES / LORE IN THE CHILDISH DARKNESS or let me scream about Tsukumojuku again
the names Kandai, Seijitsu and Shoujiki repeatedly show up, though as a set of adjectives (generous/benevolent, loyal and honest) rather than character names. Saburou considers these three traits to be of utmost importance, or at least claims that he thinks of them as important, much like Ms. Suzuki.
This in particular floored me:
正直/誠実/寛大な男を探せと常々猿江楓には言ってきたが、そう言う俺は全くその三つの条件を満たしてはいなかった。と言うか、その三つのうちの、どれ一つとして持っていなかった。俺は正直でも誠実でも寛大でもなかった。それどころではなかった。そんなこととは百万光年も離れていたって言うか、全然別次元で生きていた。
I’d kept telling Sarue Kaede to search for an honest, loyal and benevolent man, but I didn’t really fulfill these three criteria myself. Actually, I didn’t have even one of the three. I wasn’t honest or loyal or benevolent. That was just out of the question. I was separated by a million light years away from those, or should I say, was living on a completely different level from them [alt.transl.: in a completely different dimension].
When Saburou finds Yurio’s very teenage writings, aside from an obvious fanwork for his Runbaba books there’s also something called Daibakusho Curry’s Shocking Life, so either there’s a Daibakusho in Natsukawa-verse or this is also Yurio’s fanfic for Saburou’s books. This doesn’t mean Saburou must have already written Tsukumojuku at this point, as Maijo actually released an obscure story in 2000, 魅惑のミステリア, in which a Daibakusho Curry and a Runbaba 12 (and interestingly a ‘Neptune D’) have already showed up. We can assume Daibakusho and Runbaba may be just kinda hanging out in Saburou’s books too I guess?
Yurio has Seiryoin on her bookshelf.
Apparently neither Saburou can have an appendicitis surgery without it getting weird and involving something that really shouldn’t be there in a person’s abdomen. This time, it ties in with the case of someone cutting people open and putting different amount of money into them. The same case that is referenced in the First Story of Tsukumojuku.
Saburou briefly considers the option that a complicated serial killing was committed solely to hide a single murder, but obviously that ‘hide the tree in a forest’ type of crime is just a stupid concept from ridiculous mystery novels. ...It’s also exactly what happened in the First Story of Tsukumojuku with Ueda Yuuko.
Similarly, at one point Saburou considers that a person might have hollowed out the books on the bookcase leaving just the spines and have hidden behind them, but he quickly thinks that would be a stupid trick that can’t work in this real situation. This exact ‘stupid trick’ is what Daibakusho Curry mentions in the Second Story. I feel like half of Saburou’s creative process is going ‘that’s stupid, I’m gonna put this in”
Near the end, Saburou gets tied down by a guy with very bad intentions and an electric saw, and wonders if his older brother (that for all he knows may want to kill him) is going to come and save him. That’s pretty much the climax of the Third Story.
A set of balls for different sports is found nearby a victim’s body, which in itself reminds me of the Seventh Story. But these balls are also fashioned to look similar to the Solar System objects, a bit like it was with the chandelier in Disco.
Somebody in Nishi Akatsuki owns an unnamed dog that’s described in the same terms as Moppy, and the Fujitas have a dog with a similar name, Makki.
Something something a childish guy who the narrator describes as looking monstrous is living locked up by his father in an underground room something something
All those trapdoors and hidden underground rooms reminded me about the Arrow Cross House
Just like pilot Jorge, Saburou ends up having a phrase carved into his body (this time it’s LOVE ME TENDER)
At one point Saburou thinks that Jirou might have kidnapped a set of twins similar to him in looks so he could use one for a body switch trick in case he had to fake death. A similar theory is posed in Disco about Mitamura’s body possibly being Ichirou’s or Jirou’s
Some named characters that show up here and in other books: Araki Kazuo, a Mitamura, Kato Satoshi, Shirai Masami, a bunch of the Angel Bunnies (Fukushima, Kawai, Hoshino, Furutaka, Kamimura, Hayashi...)
A part near the very end had a similar vibe of ‘gaining something by losing something’ as Disco, as well as a slight Tsukumojuku vibe of ‘this may not be the true truth but it’s the truth I want to believe in’. Also, the chapters tend to contradict one another, some even ending with highly weird events that are never mentioned again
Watch out when walking alone in the mountains of Nishi Akatsuki, there are bears. And possibly a family of cannibals. But mostly bears.
