My roman empire right now is that Uenoyama completely understanding Mafuyu about his past about his trauma with knowing so little about it and never once felling jealous about it like when Mafuyu said that clock looks like Yuki's and when Uenoyama hugged him Mafuyu was about to apologize but then Uenoyama said don't look like you're going to cry alone when I'm with you he didn't even cared about Mafuyu bringing up Yuki all he cared was Mafuyu being okay and knowing he wasn't alone or when they were "fighting" and Mafuyu being scared that he was gonna lose Uenoyama too and saying if we don't talk something bad will happen again and Uenoyama going "I'm so idiot" and hugging Mafuyu tightly and trying to be there for him when things get rough trying to make things easier for him trying to help him heal even if that means completing Mafuyu's dead boyfriend's song and I love him for it Uenoyama deserves much more

given - lost in translation

we know that when the band was just uenoyama, haru and kaji the band was named "the seasons" because they all have the kanjis for the seasons in their names, but here's the breakdown :

uenoyama : 立夏 (rikka - given name) meaning first day of summer

haruki : 中山 (haruki) ; 中 (haru) meaning spring

kaji : 秋彦 (akihiko) ; 秋 (aki) meaning autumn

they could've kept "the seasons" with the inclusion of mafuyu, too, since

真冬 (mafuyu) -> 真 (ma) - true ; 冬 (fuyu) - winter

but did you also know that pain is endless 🥲 because

although yuki's name uses the kanji 由紀 (yu - reason, cause ; ki - chronicle) it is also a homophone for 雪 (yuuki - snow)

so

"just like the snow in the shade that hasn't completely melted, i continue on with these feelings inside me" (first line of fuyunohanashi / a winter story / mafuyu's song)

winter can exist without the snow but snow can't exist without winter ദ്ദി ꒦ິ꒳꒦ິ )

mafuyu felt lonely because he thought yuki, hiiragi and shizu were a trio due to their band.

but shizu felt lonely because he thought yuki, hiiragi and mafuyu were a trio because they got along better (and because he arrived a bit later in the group)

then if hiiragi started to feel lonely only after yuki's death, i come to the conclusion that hiiragi and yuki were the best besties best friends in the world and that makes things even more tragic regarding their relationship.

that explains why hiiragi is so confused about mafuyu and shizu's feeling of loneliness coming before all that.

that also explains why hiiragi feels so guilty after mafuyu cut them off, and after shizu told him he felt left alone all this time. hiiragi realises he's acted like an egoist along with yuki and didn't pay attention enough to mafuyu and shizu, even though he cared very much about them.

he also realises that his world revolved around yuki and he didn't see earlier that the two other's worlds did not. all what mafuyu and shizu ever wanted is to hang out as friends, as a quartet, and not only spend time with the one they love(d). they wanted to have the quartet back to what it seemed like when they were little, or to build a real one, but hiiragi kept that from happening because of his precious attachment to yuki.

after he understands his mistake, hiiragi softens to mafuyu and shizu and tries to make it up to them, by almost clinging onto them all the time to make sure that he'll never repeat the same fault. he doesn't want them to ever feel lonely again.
