new yugioh stars thing, this time the general look of their duel disks! still a wip but i got the general shape down for it.

Behold, the DM Academy Duel Disk V9 (why version 9? dont think about it)!

Inspiration was obviously the academy duel disk, with D-Pad from ZeXal and the ones from Arc-V thrown in. specifically, the D-Pad's screen and more general look compared to AV's general slab, and the 'energy blade' from Arc-V. this one, only most of it was energy, distributed by the edge letting you insert cards and such. Colors denote what branch youre in, and the stripe on the bottom shows your year.

Functions like a d-pad and arc-v duel disk but uuuuuuhm more. dont know yet, its a duel disk what else you need?

can easily be modified for looks, with three examples shown to the right side, mainly the left handed version for kenta, Yuji's second version, and Kyoji's verison.

Vega - my Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal OC Vega is a Numbers hunter working for Mr. Heartland. His carefree and fun attitude is a sharp contrast to the more serious Number Hunters in Heartland's employ, as he seems to annoy most of them with his constant trouble remembering names. Vega is friendly and outgoing, but can be quite ruthless, especially when he is after the Number Cards. Vega is secretly a steward of the Numeron code and hopes to collect the Numbers himself so that no one can have access to its universe warping power. Vega's initial interactions with Yuma are antagonistic. He frequently disrupts Yuma's activities to challenge him for Utopia. Using his ace monster, Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon, Vega can deal massive damage to his opponents even if they have a Number card. With his deck of Constellar monsters, Vega has no trouble manipulating the levels of his monsters to bring out Dark Rebellion quickly against an opponent with a Number card. He later develops a playful crush on Luna (Manga-only character) though it is very unrequited. Thanks for reading and checking out my character!

Your Yugioh Six Legends thing sounds cool af, mind giving some more info about the setting and general plot?

First off: Thank you so much for being my first ask! It means a lot.

Second: Thank you for asking. The only ones I've had to rant about this to were my family, who know nothing about Yu-Gi-Oh.

Onto the actual question.

The setting of Six Legends takes place in a world several centuries after an apocalyptic event referred to in story as The Awakening. No one knows exactly what happened or how, but the results were that duel spirits suddenly became a lot more easily noticed by people, and humans have dropped from billions to only a couple dozen million.

Most cities are abandoned and overgrown, while spirits explore and humans try to survive.

The spirits are seen as forces of nature or wild animals; they have a similar role as the Fae in our folklore, having their own rules and powers over any human that breaks them. Many are bound to their cards but can still affect their immediate environment. This has created a phenomenon known as Duel Domains. Similar to a Fairy Ring, one should never enter these carelessly, though, many brave souls try to enter these domains in hopes of claiming the card creating them, either by force or negotiation. Few ever succeded.

Duelists were the majority of humans to survive since they could more easily align with duel spirits and thrive. Even those who can't speak with the spirits, like Asahi, have loyal spirits on their side since battling in duels is their nature. Some of these duelists travel in nomadic tribes, but most create permanent strongholds and settlements. Regardless, neither group has ever reached more than a few hundred humans. Except for one.

These groups are so few and far between that there is little to no contact between groups. Hence the Settlement is just the Settlement; there's no one else for miles. Occasionally there is a lone vagabond or nomadic tribe, but those can be months or years apart.

There is one thing that unites all these disparate groups together. That being the Legends of the Six Duel Kings.

These legends are essentially just the show from Duel Monsters and up to Vrains that have gone through several dozen generations of mythologization, with the protags reenvisioned as heroes and kings. Most people know all six but personally focus on one or two kings as personal guides and patrons.

A few groups have taken their devotion to cultish levels.

That's the setting and here's what I've got for the plot without being too spoiler-y.

Yukyoki is the main protag and the story will focus on xyr relationship with xyr Manic Melody deck. The group is inseparable, not hard to understand as Yukyoki has had the deck for xyr whole life, even before the Settlement. But there is a rather sinister reason why that deck is one-of-a-kind. And why Yukyoki was so badly injured when the Settlement found xem.

The plot will have xem and xyr friends going on expeditions to find the remaining Manic Melody Extra Deck monsters, which are incredibly well hidden, dueling gangs and cultists along the way. These locations are significant to the previous protags in some way.

Yukyoki's friends also go on hunts of their own to add to their decks and maybe find more truths about the Six Duel Kings and gain allies among the Badland beyond the Settlement.

Throughout all of this, it becomes increasingly clear that something is hunting down the Manic Melodies and anyone even vaguely connected to them. And they don't seem to realize that Yukyoki didn't die from xyr injuries the first time around.

Zexal Month, Week 4 Day 3: O for Originality

Last year, I made a post dedicated to my first Zexal OC, Hoshiko, and gave a bit of her personality and backstory. I jokingly called a ragdoll, because I kept changing her story... and, well, that hasn't changed. She has existed ever since I was 14/15 (honestly can't recall), so her story was beginning to feel boring and her design too plain.

So I decided to take both matters into my hands and rework everything. As for the design, it's not a big overhaul (never was a fan of over-complicated stuff), but I'm really satisfied!

For today's entry, I broke down the reasoning behind the redesign choices I made. I always like when creators share their thought process, so it's only fair for me to do the same. I hope you'll enjoy my girl's new look and the reasons behind it!

So, how has her story changed? I've just started plotting it down (for study reasons), so here's some bullet points on what to expect:

The WIP is titled Controvento (Upwind) and ties to the catalyst of the whole story, a rebellion. Might change in the future.

What would Zexal be without some family issues? Expect a good deal of it, although they're centered around grandparents in this case.

You might have noticed Hoshiko's undergone a surname change. It's something I want to include and yes, it'll be relevant to character development.

The story should be set during the first season, so the WDC will be important. I'd like to include some Dueling, but I've never played the card game and I'd like some help.

Our protagonist will meet Yuma and, inevitably, it will change her life.

Your girlie likes a bit of romance in her books, and Hoshiko has always been paired up with Michael. Will this be kept in the new story? I'm not fully sure. I'd like to, but I feel both of them have bigger fish to fry...
