How Youth Employment Job Boards Empower Vulnerable Youth in Canada
Canada's future hinges on its youth. Yet, many young people, particularly those facing vulnerabilities, encounter significant barriers when entering the workforce.  Youth Employment Job Boards (YEJBs) are stepping up to bridge this gap, creating a crucial bridge between vulnerable youth and meaningful employment opportunities.
Tumblr media
Understanding Vulnerable Youth:
The term "vulnerable youth" encompasses a diverse group facing challenges that hinder their smooth transition into the workforce.  These challenges can include:
Socioeconomic Background: Youth from low-income families might lack access to education, technology, or professional networks, hindering their job prospects.
Disability: Young people with disabilities often face discrimination in the hiring process.
Newcomer Status: Newcomers to Canada might struggle with language barriers, cultural differences, and lack of relevant Canadian work experience.
Indigenous Background: Indigenous youth may confront unique challenges related to systemic barriers and historical disadvantages.
How YEJBs Empower Young People:
Youth Employment Job Board is an online platform that specifically designed to connect vulnerable youth with employers seeking skilled and motivated young talent. Here is how they make a difference:
Targeted Job Postings: They cater to employers who actively seek to hire and support vulnerable youth. This creates a targeted pool of opportunities catering to their specific skill sets and needs.
Focus on Inclusion: These boards promote diversity and inclusion within the workforce. Employers seeking diverse teams can connect with talented youth from a wider range of backgrounds.
Skill Development Resources: Many Youth Job Board offer resources to help youth develop essential job search skills, including resume writing, interview preparation, and networking tips.
Mentorship Programs: Some of them connect youth with mentors who can provide guidance and support throughout the job search process.
Benefits for Employers:
YEJBs aren't just beneficial for vulnerable youth; they offer significant advantages to employers as well:
Access to Diverse Talent Pool: These portals provide access to a pool of motivated and eager young talent who might be overlooked through traditional channels.
Socially Responsible Hiring: Recruiting from diverse backgrounds demonstrates a commitment to social responsibility and can enhance employer branding.
Government Incentives: Some government programs offer incentives to employers who hire vulnerable youth.
The Road to a Brighter Future:
YEJBs are playing a critical role in empowering vulnerable youth in Canada. By offering targeted job opportunities, skill development resources, and mentorship programs, these platforms are paving the way for a more inclusive and successful future for young Canadians.  If you are a young person facing challenges entering the workforce, explore Canada Youth Employment Program in your area.  Employers seeking diverse and motivated talent should consider utilizing these valuable resources.  Together, we can create a brighter future where every young person in Canada has the opportunity to thrive.

"I'm in a bad place and need to get out, what can I do?"
I figured I'd make a post with all the resources/tips I've collected to help people get out of shitty situations so far, since it's easier than linking to a bunch of posts each time.
Seek out appropriate resources. This can include support groups (online or offline), helplines, and the like.
If you're in the US, you can call 211 to help you find resources.
Crisis Text Line offers services to the US, Ireland, Canada, and the UK.
RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is a US service offers a lot of information for sexual abuse survivors.
The Trevor Lifeline is a service for queer youth in the US.
If you're a minor, you may wish to read How To Escape Abusive Parents: A Guide For Minors.
If you're an adult, you may wish to read How To Escape Abusive Parents: A Guide For Adults.
You might search on Qwant for like something like "resources for people in abuse" or "abuse resources help" or "domestic violence survivors resources".
Ask people for help in finding resources. If you can't find anything on your own, there are other people who know where to direct you. It might take awhile to find what you're looking for, but keep asking.
A WORD OF CAUTION: there are many predatory spiritual groups and conspiracy theorists out there who prey on abuse survivors and mentally ill people. You will often see these people claiming that channeling or hypnosis can help you remember past life memories or repressed traumatic memories. This is nonsense and quackery.
Relevant posts of mine:
Hypnosis is unreliable for memory recovery, and this is one way we know.
False past life memories among the starseed movement
Here’s the trouble with hypnotic regression…
If you're on a website that claims to support cult survivors and you see any of these names in the citations (and make sure you check the citations!), leave immediately - all of these people are far right conspiracy theorists. (Unfortunately, many people today are unwittingly perpetuating the BS of Fritz Springmeier in particular. See this and this for more info on that.)
Change who and what you surround yourself with. Start associating with different people/groups as much as you can. Get hobbies to fill your time. Unfollow blogs that reinforce the beliefs you're trying to get away from, and follow blogs that provide a healthier alternative.
You might follow blogs like:
A Kind Place
Trauma Survivors Helping Trauma Survivors
Compassionate Reminders
Trauma Survivors Activities
Reasons For Hope
Bluest Fluff
If you're trying to rebuild your worldview without conspiratorial/culty elements, go take a look at my Resources page.
Remember that your first job is looking after yourself. You don't owe the group. You aren't responsible for the group, or for anyone in it. It might feel that way, but it's vitally important to acknowledge when you're unqualified or suffering burnout. You might feel like bad things will happen if you leave, but that's a fear, not a fact.
You also don't have to justify your departure to the group. You can just leave. If you feel that you must give a reason, you can offer something as simple as "I need to take some time to focus on my mental health" or "I'm really busy lately and don't have time to spend here." If they throw a fit over this, that's honestly just more proof that you need to get out.
If any practices the group taught you actually helped, you can keep doing them. If doing affirmations helped you, keep doing affirmations. If listening to so-called healing frequencies actually made you feel better, you don't have to stop listening to them. If you were practicing something like the Law of Assumption, you can carry on with a lot of that under a psychological model rather than Neville Goddard's wacky metaphysical model. (See this video for an example.) If it genuinely helps you and doesn't hurt anyone else, by all means, keep doing it.
You might look at my Manifestation Without Woo posts:
Manifestation Without Woo: Changing Your Brain
Manifestation Without Woo: People React To Your Projections, & Your Projections Affect Your Perceptions
Manifestation Without Woo: Setting Reasonable Goals
Manifestation Without Woo: Make It Fun!
Manifestation Without Woo: What If It's Not Working?
Get some critical thinking skills. In order to keep yourself from falling into another bad group, it's important to develop your critical thinking skills.
Learn to apply the Five W's (who, what, when, where, and why) when encountering any information.
Learn common logical fallacies.
Learn the difference between fact, opinion, belief, and prejudice.
Don't equate emotional reactions with some kind of innate or higher moral guidance.
Ask yourself if you're "thinking for yourself" or being led to believe you're thinking for yourself.
Know what emotional manipulation tactics look like.
Watch out for these behaviors in any new group you join.
Yes, there are ways to confirm the age of an old text without having the original text itself.
Learn how propaganda works.
Watch out for these red flags in spiritual groups.
And watch out for this red flag.
Understand that belief doesn't have to be binary.
So yeah, hopefully this'll give folks some actionable advice. I can't promise it's going to help each and every person out there, but hopefully it'll give a lot of you something that will help.

On the election-
Guys, I know it might not seem like it, but it’s going to be okay. This is when we start exercising our rights of protest, of holding that goddamned orange to the law like our lives depend on it, because in some cases, they will. This is when we remind all of our government that they serve us, not the other way around. Make your voice heard. Fight for our rights. Sign petitions. Stay active. Do not give in to defeatism. This isn’t just for Americans- I know that every country is going to be affected by the results of this election, and I'm sorry that America has failed the world yet again, but it is all of our job to continue to fight, to hold onto hope, to keep trudging forward, no matter what evil orange does or says.
Trans people, I see you, I love you, the world is better with you in it. Stay with me awhile.
Here are some resources. Please, use what you need to, and never feel ashamed of asking for help.

LGBTQ Book Recommendations
In the year that has seen the heartwarming second season of Heartstopper comes the news two school districts in the US states of Florida and Oregon have banned the graphic novels and a public library in Mississippi removed the works from the shelves claiming they were somehow “pornographic.”  It never seems to fail; every time there is societal progress, you have a wave of those throwing up restrictions trying desperately to pull everything and everyone back.
This heinous attack on LGBTQ literature, works on the African American experience, and tragic historical events are why we fight back everyday to keep these works available for all who seek their content especially during Banned Books Week.  It’s not about corrupting or grooming the youth; it’s about truth, love, life, compassion, and understanding one another.  What follows are seven LGBTQ books by seven different authors you may want to consider reading beyond Heartstopper, Fence, and Love, Simon.  Remember, just because your favorite book isn’t here doesn’t mean I didn’t like it or you shouldn’t give try.  Always enrich your perspective by trying a variety of works in the plethora now available.  Happy Banned Books Week!
Tumblr media
1.  Boy Like Me by Simon James Green – I first ran across this author when I read his book Alex in Wonderland a few years ago being greatly amused by the antics of boy working a summer job.  It is very fitting to begin with this recent release set in a UK High School back in 1994 during Section 28 banning books on gay relationships.  The main character, Jamie, is lead to such a disguised novel where he finds a connection to his own personal truths and to a mysterious other person who feels the same way.  Will Jamie ever find this other person or will they be forever shunned by their small community?  It’s always a important to remember where we’ve been so that we can better guide ourselves to where we need to be.
Tumblr media
2.  The Music of What Happens by Bill Konigsberg – Two boys operate a food truck Coq Au Vinny for the summer out in the heat of Mesa, Arizona.  Max, a baseball jock, is trying hard to forget a rough experience with a college boy while hanging out with his friends and working.  Geeky Jordan, is trying to raise the money with his late father’s old food truck and keep his mother from spiraling while hanging out with his gal pals.  Along the way they find friendship and love while working through their past traumas and current struggles.  Easily one of my favorites.
Tumblr media
3. Check, Please!  Book 1:  #Hockey by Ngozi Ukazu – Join baking vlogger Erik “Bitty” Bittle from Georgia as he makes his way through the first two years playing hockey at Samwell University in New England.  Originally an online comic, this first volume in a two part set explores Bitty’s time interacting with the team and getting closer with their Captain, Zimmerman.  This was a charming story with entertaining characters, and, of course, the love of hockey.  Be sure to also read Check, Please!  Book 2:  Sticks & Scones.
Tumblr media
4.  Lions Legacy by L.C. Rosen – Tennessee “Tenny” Russo had tried to leave his adventuring days with his father’s reality show behind and have a normal life with his mom in Greenwich Village.  Two years later, his boyfriend is cheating on him, his “Good Upstanding Queer” friends don’t care, and his dad comes back into his life with a potential lead on the Rings of the Sacred Band of Thebes.  Tenny could stay miserable in New York or join his father in Greece to recover a lost piece of queer history to share with the world.  A wonderful, thrilling story heavily influenced by Indiana Jones exploring struggle of keeping LGBT history from being swept under the rug or modified to fit a heteronormative viewpoint.
Tumblr media
5.  Thunder by Dylan James – Teenage Grant Peters and Logan Summers have been long neighbors and rivals on the rodeo circuit in the upper plains of the United State or Canada.  With his parents thinking of selling the ranch due to a drop in profits, Grant is desperate to find a way to keep competing with his beloved horse Thunder.  He stumbles across evidence of a cougar attack and is drawn into an investigation along the property line with his nemesis, Logan.  Along the way, the boys develop a connection and uncover a secret hidden from both families.  Will they make it out alive?
Tumblr media
6.  Howl by Shaun David Hutchinson – When Virgil Knox stumbled into the town center of Merritt, Florida battered, bloody, and raving about the monster that attacked him, nobody would believe him, not even his own grandparents.  Already struggling to make friends in his dad’s hometown after his parents’ divorce, Virgil knows what he saw and finds himself reliving that night.  Can Virgil find a way to move on with his life?  Will the monster find him again?  Is he on his way to becoming one himself?
Tumblr media
7.  In Deeper Waters by F.T. Lukens – Prince Tal has a secret.  Fire mages are not to be trusted ever since his ancestor used the ability to fight wars against the other kingdoms and practitioners of other magic, the ability has been shunned.  The mysterious castaway Athlen also has a secret that enables him to somehow survive the deep oceans.  Together the boys will survive pirates, kidnapping plots, shapeshifters, and a grand political plot threatening the kingdom and Tal’s sister, the queen.  Can they stop a war before it’s too late?

The Evolution of First Aid Training in Winnipeg
Tumblr media
Winnipeg has seen a transformation in first aid and (health care provider) HCP Courses Winnipeg over the past decade. What was once seen as basic skills for babysitters or summer camp counselors has evolved into comprehensive certification courses that set the foundation for careers in healthcare.
This evolution has been driven by a few key factors. Read on and let’s learn more about them in detail.
Increased Need for Trained Professionals
With a growing and aging population, there is an increased demand for healthcare workers in Winnipeg and across Canada. This includes demand for jobs like paramedics, nurses, personal support workers and medical office assistants. Proper First Aid Training Winnipeg and HCP training provides a pathway into these professions. Many healthcare employers now require applicants to have their HCP or other first aid certifications.
Some of the most popular HCP Courses Winnipeg today include the Red Cross HCP course and St. John's Ambulance Therapy Assistant program. These intensive classes teach critical skills like CPR, use of AEDs, assessing vital signs, managing illness and injury emergencies, and more. Graduates earn certifications that allow them to work in healthcare settings.
Focus on Workplace Safety
Legislation in Manitoba workplaces has also evolved to mandate proper first aid coverage for employees. Under the Workplace Safety and Health Act, employers must ensure adequate first aid equipment, supplies, and personnel during working hours. This has increased demand from both employers and employees for comprehensive first aid training Winnipeg.
Many workplaces now sponsor their staff getting HCP or standard first aid/CPR-C certifications. Top first aid providers in the city have developed dedicated workplace training programs to meet employer needs. Refresher courses are also commonly provided to ensure skills stay sharp.
Accessibility of Training
Advances in online learning and part-time class schedules have also helped fuel growth in first aid enrollment. In the past, Manitobans interested in intensive HCP Courses Winnipeg would have to take time off work or quit their jobs to attend full-time classes. The development of night school, blended e-learning and condensed weekend programs has made First Aid Training Winnipeg more accessible.
For example, the Winnipeg-based UpSkills for Work program allows students to take HCP courses Winnipeg and workplace mentorships. This provides unemployed and underemployed adults a pathway into community health careers.
Training for Personal/Family Safety
There’s also been a realization amongst everyday Winnipeg residents that first aid is an invaluable life skill. Much like learning to swim, more people want training in areas like choking rescue, CPR, bleeding control and shock management whether at home, out in the community or on the job.
Standard first aid and CPR-C courses are now staple classes for high school students. New parents are signing up for infant and child CPR Training Winnipeg. Community centers offer discounted first aid programs for youth, seniors, newcomers and Indigenous residents throughout the city.
Importance of Staying Current
With advances in first aid protocols and techniques, it’s important for both healthcare providers and community members to stay current with their training. Best practices for lifesaving interventions do evolve over time as new evidence and technologies emerge.
For example, guidelines on opioid overdose response had to rapidly equip both medical and non-medical audiences to administer naloxone nasal spray or injections amidst the devastating impacts of the overdose crisis. Or the increased availability of AED devices in public spaces necessitated widespread training on safe automated external defibrillator usage.
Whether you learned first aid 20 years ago or just attended refreshers last season, look for opportunities to stay up-to-speed with the latest protocols. In emergency medicine, even small deviations from evidence-based standards can severely impact patient outcomes. Your skills truly have the power to save lives.
The Future of Training
As healthcare needs and workplace safety standards continue to evolve in Winnipeg, so too will first aid and HCP Courses Winnipeg. People can expect continuing education options for credential renewal and maintenance. Additional legal protections may be granted specifically to those with HCP status versus standard first aid training.
New modalities also promise to expand access and improve outcomes. Virtual reality programs allows first aid students to simulate high-risk scenarios. Advances in CPR feedback mannequins provide instant assessment on chest compression effectiveness.
No matter what the future brings, quality First Aid Training Winnipeg will continue offering life-saving skills while connecting Winnipeggers to careers making a difference in their communities.

Immigration Programs for you to immigrate to Canada
Tumblr media
Are you dreaming of starting a new chapter of your life in the beautiful land of Canada? Well, you're not alone! Canada is known for its stunning landscapes, friendly people, and diverse opportunities. But how do you make that dream a reality? Fear not! Canada offers various Canada Immigration Programs designed to welcome newcomers like you. Let's explore some of the easiest and most accessible pathways to immigrate to Canada.
Express Entry System:
Think of Express Entry as your fast track to Canada. It's an online system that manages applications for three major economic immigration programs:
Federal Skilled Worker Program
Federal Skilled Trades Program
Canadian Experience Class
To apply through Express Entry, you need to create an online profile and submit your credentials, including your education, work experience, language proficiency, and other relevant details. Based on a comprehensive ranking system, you'll be given a score, and candidates with the highest scores are invited to apply for permanent residency.
Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs)
Each Canadian province and territory, except for Quebec, has its own PNP. These programs are tailored to address specific regional labor market needs. Through PNPs, provinces nominate individuals who have the skills, experience, or connections to contribute to their local economy. To apply, you must meet the eligibility criteria set by the province or territory you're interested in.
Atlantic Immigration Pilot
If you're eyeing the maritime provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, or Newfoundland and Labrador, the Atlantic Immigration Pilot could be your ticket. This employer-driven program aims to fill labor gaps in the Atlantic region by facilitating the hiring of skilled workers and international graduates. To qualify, you need a valid job offer from a designated employer in one of the participating provinces.
Family Sponsorship
Do you have a family member living in Canada who's willing to sponsor you? If so, you might be eligible for family sponsorship. Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their spouse, common-law partner, dependent children, parents, or grandparents for permanent residency. This pathway fosters family reunification and support.
Start-Up Visa Program
Are you an entrepreneur with an innovative business idea? The Start-Up Visa Program could be your avenue to Canada. This program targets entrepreneurs who can contribute to the Canadian economy by launching a start-up venture that creates jobs and drives growth. To qualify, you need support from a designated organization and meet certain eligibility criteria.
Caregiver Program
If you have experience caring for children, the elderly, or individuals with medical needs, the Caregiver Program might be suitable for you. This program provides pathways for caregivers to obtain permanent residency in Canada, acknowledging their valuable contributions to Canadian families.
International Experience Canada (IEC)
Designed for youth aged 18-35 from participating countries, the IEC program offers opportunities for temporary work permits, allowing individuals to gain valuable international experience while exploring Canada's vibrant culture and lifestyle.
Before embarking on your Canada Immigration Programs journey, it's essential to thoroughly research and understand the requirements of each program. Consider consulting with immigration experts or legal professionals to ensure you're on the right path. With determination, patience, and proper guidance, your Canadian dream can become a reality sooner than you think!

About
name: vayu chandra das alias: yuya age: 38 gender: trans man pronouns: he / him occupation: line cook / hunter sexuality: ace spectrum, romantically interested in men and women alike, but otherwise unlabeled height: 5'6" hair: black, long, wavy eye color: black scars: scratch marks on cheek, burn marks on neck and torso, vivisection marks on torso birthplace: Khulna, Bangladesh current home: Toronto, Canada nationality: Bangladeshi / Canadian ethnicity: Bengali languages: English, Bengali, some Sanskrit
Personality
Vayu looks like a quiet and dreary, but gentle and helpful person. And he is. In that way, he’s quite simple, but there are a lot of wrinkles even in those traits.
Vayu’s first instinct is to help others. He wants to treat others with kindness and hospitality, and even if there’s no reason or reward, if he finds someone in need, he wants to help. This kindness has its limits, of course. But Vayu’s own needs and wants are not part of those limits, and he’ll give to others far more readily than he’ll ever give to himself. He’s remarkably patient when it comes to others’ attitudes, too. His treatment of others, other factors aside, is one of understanding and gentleness.
On the outside though, Vayu’s attitude is lonesome, depressive, and occasionally even resentful. He was always quiet and socially awkward, but furthermore, he’s not a naive youth anymore, and the cruelty he’s faced has worn him down. He often feels exhausted, both physically and emotionally. Sometimes even his patience cracks when tested, and he’ll get passive aggressive or show genuine frustration or anger. None of this will stop him from doing what he feels is right or needed, but it does affect him -- and he really, really doesn't like that about himself. He feels like he's been tainted, somehow. It's not really a rational feeling, but he often sees his cynical and resentful streak as proof of that.
What keeps him going despite all this is unshakable loyalty and determination. There are people who depend on him and there is always something left to do. Vayu gets his resilience from the people he cares about, and the sense of responsibility he feels for them – and Vayu quickly and easily comes to care about others.
Abilities + Skills
Slow regeneration: not nearly potent enough to be worth much in the moment, but helpful over longer periods of time, as even fairly severe wounds will heal.
Burning blood: situationally useful, but Vayu’s blood will catch fire from a spark, at least when fresh. It has a low, warm glow to it, like embers, when fresh.
Skill in hunting and combat, in a rather intertwined fashion. Weaponry, anatomy, tracking and situational awareness, archery etc.
A deep familiarity with the fantastical and occult elements of his world. Knowledge of ghosts, undead, and the magic associated with them, though he can’t use much of it himself. He knows some basic stuff, useful for sensing, warding, and talking to spirits and similar powers, though.
Other interests and skills are:
Cooking, which is his day job. That’s sucked some of the fun out of it for him, but he’s fairly good at it still.
Poetry and literature. He had more time and energy for long books as a teenager, but he’s trying to get back into it by reading poetry collections.
Additional Traits, Fun Facts
Despite being a hunter by training, and being willing to prepare meat dishes, Vayu is a vegetarian himself.
He was a grunge and metal fan in his youth, and remains one to this day.
Vayu has a facebook account he never uses, posts on some forums that have still remained up, and that's about it in terms of internet presence. The only thing that can get him online is classic doom.

Canada Summer Jobs 2024: Application Period for Employers Begins November 21, 2023
Tumblr media
When young people have the skills and experience they need to join the workforce, communities and the economy both benefit. That is why the Government of Canada supports youth at every stage of their journey towards a bright future through its comprehensive array of youth programming, that includes Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ).
On November 21, 2023, the Honourable Marci Ien, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth, will launch the employer application period for CSJ 2024. Employers from not-for-profit organizations, the public sector, and private sector organizations with 50 or fewer full-time employees in Canada can apply for funding until January 10, 2024, to hire young Canadians next summer. Full-time job placements will become available starting in April 2024.
CSJ 2024 will aim to create 70,000 summer jobs for young Canadians, with an emphasis on creating jobs for youth facing barriers to employment. This is part of the over 140,000 opportunities that the Government of Canada aims to create for youth this year.
Each year, the Government establishes national priorities for CSJ to reflect Canada's diverse population and evolving needs. The priorities for CSJ 2024 are:
Youth with disabilities or with organizations that provide services to persons with disabilities;
Youth that are underrepresented in the labour market, including:
Youth in rural areas, remote communities, or official language minority communities;
Jobs that provide exposure or experience related to the skilled trades, which may include opportunities in the residential construction sector; and
Sustainable jobs that support the protection of the environment or delivering positive environmental outcomes.
Employers interested in applying for CSJ 2024 funding are encouraged to submit their applications electronically on the Grants and Contributions Online Services (GCOS) portal. Creating a GCOS account is a one-time process that allows organizations to apply for various Employment and Social Development Canada funding opportunities  in a secure web environment.
The CSJ program is one of two programs that Employment and Social Development Canada delivers under the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS). Delivered in partnership by 12 federal departments, agencies and Crown corporations, the YESS is a horizontal Government of Canada initiative that supports youth between the ages of 15 and 30 to gain the work experience and develop the skills they need to successfully transition into the labour market. In early October, the Government launched a call for proposals under Employment and Social Development Canada's YESS Program to fund projects that support youth who are facing barriers to employment.
Tumblr media
To further support youth, additional funding opportunities are currently available through the Canada Service Corps (CSC) for organizations that provide meaningful volunteer service opportunities for young people between the ages of 12 and 30. Organizations can apply for funding through the CSC call for proposals until December 19, 2023. Through the call, the CSC will aim to create approximately 36,000 service opportunities for youth.
This comprehensive array of programs represent the Government of Canada's commitment to ensuring that youth have meaningful and effective supports to enter the job market and build their skills and experience. Young people across Canada all have one thing in common – they want to create a better future for themselves, and the Government remains committed to supporting their success.
Quote
"When our young people have the tools and opportunities to succeed – they thrive. This is why our government will continue to invest in the success of our youth through an array of programming, including the Canada Summer Jobs program. Our young people deserve the very best, and that includes getting them into the job market, into careers they love, and making sure no one is left behind." – The Honourable Marci Ien, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth
Quick Facts
Since 2020, CSJ has created more than 300,000 job opportunities for youth.
CSJ has a proven track record of providing meaningful job opportunities for youth. In a survey of CSJ youth participants for 2022, 97% of respondents reported that they had developed and strengthened transferable skills through their CSJ job placement, and 89% said that they had developed a positive attitude about their future employment prospects.
The unemployment rate for 15 to 29 year olds in October 2023 (both student and non-student) was 9.0%. However, for underrepresented groups, these rates tend to be higher.
CSJ-funded positions will be posted to Job Bank starting in April 2024 and will continue throughout the summer.

Spending lengthy periods of time sitting and playing video games or consuming digital information discourages individuals from participating in and engaging in physical exercise. The growing popularity of e-sports has pushed young people to pursue it as a job, pastime, and source of pleasure. As a result, the growing popularity of e-sports poses a significant threat to outdoor sports such as tennis and football. The growing popularity of e-sports causes a decline in young engagement in sports and physical fitness activities, which has a negative impact on the activewear market growth. Navigating the Path to a Work Permit in Canada
Introduction:
Canada, with its robust economy and diverse opportunities, is a popular destination for individuals seeking employment abroad. Acquiring a work permit is often the first step for foreign nationals who wish to work legally in Canada. In this article, we will provide a comprehensive guide to obtaining a work permit in Canada, including the eligibility requirements, types of work permits available, and the application process.
Tumblr media
Section 1: Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for a Canada work permit, foreign nationals must meet certain criteria established by the Canadian government. Here are the key eligibility requirements:
1. Job Offer: Applicants must have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer who has obtained a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). Some work permits, such as those issued under international agreements, do not require an LMIA.
2. Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA): An LMIA is a document issued by ESDC to ensure that hiring a foreign worker will not have a negative impact on the Canadian labor market. Employers must demonstrate that they have made efforts to hire Canadian citizens or permanent residents before hiring a foreign worker.
3. Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP): In certain cases, foreign nationals may be eligible for a work permit through the TFWP, which includes streams such as high-skilled workers, low-skilled workers, and the Global Talent Stream.
4. International Agreements: Canada has signed international agreements with certain countries that facilitate the issuance of work permits to their citizens. These agreements include the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
Section 2: Types of Work Permits
Canada offers various types of work permits to cater to different situations and employment categories. Let's explore some of the common types:
1. Employer-Specific Work Permit: This type of work permit is tied to a specific employer and job. It requires an approved LMIA, and the applicant can only work for the designated employer mentioned on the permit.
2. Open Work Permit: An open work permit allows individuals to work for any Canadian employer without the need for a specific job offer. This type of permit is available under certain circumstances, such as spousal sponsorship, post-graduation work permits, or the International Experience Canada (IEC) program.
3. Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP): International students who have completed a program of study at a designated learning institution in Canada may be eligible for a PGWP. This allows them to gain valuable Canadian work experience after graduation.
4. International Experience Canada (IEC): The IEC program provides work permits to young people from countries that have a bilateral youth mobility agreement with Canada. It includes three categories: Working Holiday, Young Professionals, and International Co-op.
Section 3: Application Process
To apply for a work permit in Canada, individuals must follow a structured application process. Here are the general steps involved:
1. Determine Eligibility: Review the eligibility criteria and select the appropriate work permit category based on your situation.
2. Obtain a Job Offer: Secure a job offer from a Canadian employer who is willing to provide the necessary documentation, such as an LMIA, if required.
3. Gather Required Documents: Collect the necessary documents, including a valid passport, job offer letter, LMIA (if applicable), proof of qualifications, and language proficiency results.
4. LMIA Application (if required): If an LMIA is required, the employer must submit an application to ESDC to obtain a positive assessment.
5. Submit the Application: Complete the work permit application form and submit it online or through a visa application immigration services Winnipeg center

Janira Moncayo landed three part-time jobs in fine arts when she graduated from university, and she took them all. Anxious about making it in a tough field, she threw herself into work, regularly working 56 hours a week. But it was too much. Her stress levels skyrocketed, and she would frequently end her days crying from the pressure.
"All of my time was dedicated to working," said the 23-year-old, who came from Ecuador in 2018 to attend the Alberta University of the Arts. Now she's joined others of her generation in pushing back against what she sees as an unhealthy obsession with work. She adopted a new philosophy and is now just working one job.
"I would like to live in a place where you can feel comfortable and not work yourself to death to try to prove something or even try to make a living." She sounded poised and sure of her choice at CBC Calgary's Young Calgary launch, a partnership with the Calgary Public Library designed to hear from more young adults in the news.
"So right now, I'm trying to really ground myself to figure out: Is this thing that I'm doing actually making me feel good?" Researchers and labor insiders have been tracking this generational shift in perspective across North America.
With an ongoing labor shortage among some professions in the province, they have some power, but that's not unlimited, she said. Last Friday, more than 200 young adults came out to Calgary's Central Library to take part in the mixer. They shared their thoughts with journalists on everything from dating in this city to where teens hang out and their dreams for their work lives.
Many looked anxious as they talked about an economy that is defined by its booms and busts. Others mentioned how the oil and gas industry doesn't align with many of their environmental values, causing them to look at different fields.
But the biggest theme at the library that night was that work shouldn't consume one's life. A few seemed driven to succeed no matter what, but most said mental health should come first. There are non-negotiables, they said, that were neglected by past generations of workers. They said they were not going to do the same.
At the mixer, CBC Calgary invited attendees to write about the kind of work-life they dream about. "A healthy one," wrote one participant. "A successful career while still having time for my family," wrote another.
That's exactly what Lane heard when, in 2022, the Canada West Foundation released a report that tracked trends among the province's youth. The organization ran focus groups for young people and surveyed 2,000 young adults online.
"They don't want to have the job be the only thing that drives them," Lane said. "They want to be able to enjoy life beyond the doors of the office or the factory or the hospital or wherever they work."
Most Gen-Zers around the globe share that view, and should it not be met, they're willing to move on. McKinsey & Company found that 77 percent of Gen-Z respondents in the U.S. said they were looking for a new job, almost double the rate of other respondents.
Perhaps this generation will change as they grow older and take up the jobs familiar to past generations of workers. But given the massive changes on the horizon for Alberta's economy, Lane sees another possible outcome. They might actually create at least some of the change they're looking for.
"The economic situation, which is in flux, means we just don't know if there is going to be a recession and, if so, how deep," she said. "But this generation, unlike generations before, is actually in the driver's seat, so to some extent there are choices."

Nature Canada
While doing this week’s readings I found the article “Evaluating environmental education, citizen science, and stewardship through naturalist programs” particularly interesting. In the introduction, it mentioned how there are a lot of people who find one species and study them until they are basically experts (Merenlender et al., 2016). This fact gave me a bit of a full circle moment, because I had mentioned Eleanor Fletcher earlier in my blogs who did exactly this. That is not what this article was necessarily about, but I enjoyed reading it.
As stated in the title of the article, the main focus was evaluating and comparing citizen science, environmental education and stewardship throughout different naturalist programs (Merenlender et al., 2016). Their main findings concluded that people who were taking naturalist programs were doing it gain knowledge of natural systems. They in turn would gain a better understanding of nature from engagement in the citizen science programs stemmed from a genuinely positive attitude towards the environment (Merenlender et al., 2016). Unfortunately, the lack of diversity is still very present and a major issue in these programs.
This article mentioned that Canada has a program called Nature Canada which oversee the “NatureNetwork”. A group of Canadian organizations that have over 350 clubs within Canada (Merenlender et al., 2016). I had never heard of Nature Canada before, so I decided to look on their website and see what they had in regard to diversity. Immediately I noticed that there was a lot about donation and what projects they were going to. There is also plenty of accessible information about a variety of nature related issues and facts. I think this is good for people who have money, but may not have time to manually help with environmental issues. In regard to diversity, I was pleasantly surprised. They have a program that helps racialized youth find jobs that promote and protect nature called Work to Grow (2023). “Tell Your MP to Take Action on Environmental Racism” is a current campaign that they are running where they provide you with a letter that you can mail to the MP to fight against environmental racism. They are aiming to pass Bill C-266, information directly from Nature Canada below, as soon as possible (2023).
“Bill C-226 will require the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change to:
Examine the link between race, socio-economic status and environmental risk
Collect information on environmental hazards and their negative health impacts
Assess environmental laws in each province
Improve federal policy to better protect affected communities”
Even though we can see that Nature Canada is aiming to make a difference regarding lack of diversity and environmental racism, there is still way more that must be done. I had never heard of Nature Canada before and never would have known about this campaign or Bill C-266 without taking this course. Social media is such a massive part of society and I think if they had a larger online presence it would make a bigger impact.
