Submas Nutcracker AU (Part 4): How Ingo Became a Nutcracker
(Part 1) (Part 2) (Part 3)
This post will exclusively be devoted to how Ingo got turned into a nutcracker in the first place.
So, in this AU, as you may recall, Ingo and Emmet are toy makers. Years ago, they lived in a kingdom far away where their skills and craftsmanship were so well-known that they were installed in the palace as royal toy makers for the young princess. Now, the princess, Lillie, was a sweet girl, pretty as a doll with an even lovelier heart. Her mother, Queen Lusamine, was even more beautiful. However, whereas Princess Lillie was kind and gentle, her mother was, well, kind of scary. She had an intimidating air and a wicked temper, and she was ruthless toward anyone unlucky/stupid enough to earn her wrath.
But neither of the brothers blamed her, for they knew she was suffering from a broken heart. You see, her husband, the Prince Consort Mohn, left on a diplomatic voyage with the young Prince Gladion years ago, and neither of them ever returned. Gladion was Lusamine’s only son, and Mohn was the only man she’d ever loved. She was devastated when they disappeared, and since then, she viewed the world with bitterness.
However, she was not so bitter that she didn’t delight in spoiling her daughter. For her birthdays and Christmas, Lusamine had Ingo and Emmet make Lillie the most fantastic playthings. Lillie was always grateful no matter what they gave her, so they put so much work into their creations more out of professional pride (and fear of displeasing her mother) than to please Lillie.
However, all of their lives changed late one Christmas Eve, when Mohn and Gladion returned.
Queen Lusamine, of course, was overjoyed to have her husband and son back. She threw a magnificent celebration the next day. The brothers had never seen her so happy. Mohn and Gladion reinstalled themselves in the palace at once, helping themselves to all the food within reach and enjoying all the pampering Lusamine and her servants heaped on them.
But as the days went by, oddities began to pile up. Why did Mohn and Gladion spend so many hours a day locked up in their rooms without admitting anyone, not even the queen? Why, when they were asked how they survived the storm that scuttled their ship, did they give such vague answers? How did they even get here in the first place? And why was Lillie’s Vulpix, a Pokémon she only received after her brother and father had gone missing, so openly hostile to Mohn and Gladion, always snapping and snarling at them whenever they approached?
What’s more, even since the two princes returned, the servants had spotted several Zorua creeping around the palace grounds and even sneaking around the interior of the palace itself, usually lurking around the kitchens and the orchard.
Ingo, Emmet, and even Lillie herself all noticed these things and tried to point them out to Lusamine, but she was too overjoyed to have her family complete again to heed their warnings.
The truth, however, could not remain hidden forever. One day, Lillie failed to keep hold of her Vulpix while Gladion was in the room, and it broke free of her arms. As if it had long been waiting for just such an opportunity, the Vulpix made a beeline for Gladion and bit him on the ankle. As Gladion yelped and snatched his leg away, before everyone’s eyes he transformed into a young Zorua! Vulpix’s bite had caused his illusion to fail.
Seeing that the false Gladion’s disguise had been revealed, “Mohn” transformed into a female Zoroark, snatched up the Zorua, and ran out of the room. Queen Lusamine’s husband and son had never returned at all. Instead, a powerful female Zoroark, known and feared throughout the land as “Lady Zoroark,” had impersonated Mohn, and her son, a young Zorua, had impersonated Gladion, solely to install themselves and their pack in the palace and live in luxury. Lusamine’s heart was broken all over again.
It didn’t take long for Lusamine’s sorrow to turn to rage. She swore that she would have her revenge.
Now, you might never guess from looking at them, but in addition to being skilled toy makers, Ingo and Emmet were also experienced battlers. Lusamine knew this, and so she commanded them to punish Lady Zoroark’s pack for the outrage she had committed.
The brothers accepted the queen’s order and set to work. They set traps for the Zorua that Lady Zoroark had let into the palace, luring them with food and then battling them into submission with their own Pokémon.
But Lady Zoroark, who since being discovered always kept her son tucked in her mane, was too intelligent for such tactics. Emmet and Ingo had to borrow Lillie’s Vulpix to help track her down, and she was strong enough to hold her own in battle. Battles with Lady Zoroark were often chaotic. Lusamine had told the brothers that she didn’t care if anything in the palace was damaged. All that mattered was defeating the Zoroark.
Emmet supposed, in hindsight, that if Lusamine had not given that order, the brothers might have been more careful, and what happened next might have been prevented.
The brothers managed to corner Lady Zoroark and her son in the dining room. There was a magnificent chandelier hanging above the dining table. A battle was soon raging, and even Lady Zoroark’s son joined the melee. Attacks were flying back and forth. Ingo ordered his Chandelure to use Will-O-Wisp. Lady Zoroark saw the attack coming and hit Emmet’s Eelektross with Night Slash, knocking it backward into Chandelure. Chandelure’s aim was thrown off when Eelektross slammed into it, and it ended up firing its Will-O-Wisp directly into the chandelier above the dining table, where young Zorua was standing.
Chandelure saw what was about to happen and threw itself in front of Ingo while using Protect in order to shield him from the glass. Eelektross and Emmet, however, weren’t able to move fast enough to evade the flying debris, and a shard of glass struck Emmet in his right eye.
Poor, young Zorua, however, got the worst of it. The chandelier fell directly on top of him, and when the dust cleared, Ingo and Emmet were horrified to see the little Zorua lying dead beneath the chandelier.
Ingo and Emmet may have been hired to clear Lady Zoroark’s pack from the palace, but they loved Pokémon and never meant for something like this to happen. Their remorse, however, meant nothing to Lady Zoroark, who hissed that Queen Lusamine better watch out, lest Lady Zoroark bite her pretty princess in two.
Lusamine immediately ordered her guards to watch over Lillie day and night with their dog Pokémon, but it did no good. One night, while everyone was sleeping, a guard checked on Lillie to find Lady Zoroark looming over her bed. The guard immediately sent his Growlithe after her, but while his Pokémon was able to drive Lady Zoroark away, the guard saw that Lady Zoroark had cast a horrible curse on the princess. Sweet Princess Lillie had been transformed into an ugly wooden doll.
Lusamine blamed Ingo and Emmet. It was their bungling, she said, that had gotten Zorua killed and earned Lady Zoroark’s wrath. She was on the verge of ordering them both to be put to death, but her advisor, Wicke, who was of a much calmer disposition, convinced her to stay her hand. Wouldn’t it be more prudent, Wicke, suggested, to give the brothers time to fix their mistake?
Lusamine ultimately agreed and told the brothers they had one week to find a way to break Lillie’s curse or else. Luckily, through their work, the brothers had met many children all over the kingdom. One such child, Sabi, was a clairvoyant who could read the future in the stars. So, with their necks on the line, the brothers immediately went to see Sabi and learn if she knew of a way to break Princess Lillie’s curse.
After consulting the stars, Sabi told them that breaking this curse would not be easy. This was a very strong curse, born of malice, and, therefore, required a very complicated series of steps to break. First, the brothers would need to find a Mythical Pecha Berry, which even an expertly cared for Pecha tree will only produce once every few years. Unlike normal Pecha Berries, each Mythical Pecha Berry has a seed in the middle, protected by a hard shell. A human has to crack the seed of the Mythical Pecha Berry with their teeth, feed it to the princess, and then take seven steps backward with their eyes closed and without stumbling. If the person who cracks the seed somehow fails to take the required seven steps back, the curse will rebound onto them.
The brothers carried this information back to Lusamine, who immediately ordered her men to raid the royal berry orchard for a Mythical Pecha Berry. The royal orchard was huge, but after five straight days of searching, one of the queen’s men finally found a Mythical Pecha Berry with a seed inside.
Now all that was left was to find someone to break the curse. Lusamine promised that anyone able to crack the seed and break the princess’s curse would be handsomely rewarded, but the seed was hard as a stone. Even worse, many from around the kingdom were too afraid to even approach the palace, much less break the curse, in fear of Lady Zoroark’s wrath. The few brave enough to even attempt to break the nut usually went home with broken teeth.
Finally, after yet another brave soul had broken his jaw, Ingo announced that he would give it a try. Emmet urged him not to. Never mind the dental bill, what would Ingo do if the curse rebounded? What if he attracted Lady Zoroark’s wrath? But Ingo would not be dissuaded. He pitied the princess, and he still felt guilty for the role he had played in the death of Lady Zoroark’s son. He was determined to make this right in any way he could.
Ingo took the seed into his hand and thought. He could never hope to break its shell using only his teeth. Was there something he could do to make the shell more brittle? After thinking it over, he called out Chandelure and ordered it to use Will-O-Wisp on the seed. Once burned, the shell became much more brittle. Ingo was able to crack it easily between his teeth.
Ingo presented the seed to the princess without flinching from her hideous appearance. As soon as she had eaten the Mythical Pecha Berry seed, Princess Lillie was restored to her former self. The princess was almost as relieved to see the curse broken as Lusamine, who Ingo could have sworn he saw shed a tear.
Emmet kept an eye out while Ingo slowly took the seven steps backward. Suddenly, a pair of Zorua ran into the room. Emmet immediately sent out Eelektross to fight them off, but this was only a distraction. While Emmet and Eelektross were occupied, Lady Zoroark shrunk herself down to the size of a Cutiefly and ran under Ingo’s feet. He stepped directly on her, stumbled, and fell to the ground just as he was about to take the seventh step. The curse rebounded upon him, and by the time he hit the ground he was no longer a man of flesh and blood but a small, wooden nutcracker. Lady Zoroark, lying in a puddle of her own blood, gave one final smirk and died.
When Lusamine saw what had become of Ingo, she was disgusted. Against Princess Lillie’s protestations, she banished both Ingo and Emmet from the kingdom for all the trouble they had caused. Emmet supposed, looking back, that Lusamine didn’t want any reminder of the suffering Lady Zoroark had brought to the palace, and Ingo’s cursed form was too painful for her to look at.
Ingo has been cursed ever since. He and Emmet were forced to flee the kingdom, all the while being hunted by Lady Zoroark’s son, who had returned as a vengeful ghost. The violent way he and his mother had died had infused his soul with feelings of malice, resurrecting him as the terrifying Fox King.
This is the story that Emmet told Akari when she asked for the story of the Fox King. But there’s another part of this story that Emmet didn’t tell Akari. After they had left the palace, Emmet and Ingo saw Sabi one more time to see if there was a way to free Ingo from his curse. After consulting the stars again, Sabi told the brothers that because Ingo was transformed via a rebounded curse, the circumstances surrounding his transformation would likewise have to be reversed. Ingo was cursed when he made a sacrifice for a girl but was rejected in disgust. Therefore, to break the curse, a girl would have to make a sacrifice for him, and she must do so out of love.
This is why Emmet gave the transformed Ingo to Akari. He believes that Akari will be the one to break Ingo’s curse.

Pokemon Scarvi thoughts/theories with the Professors, Arven and Area Zero
Spoilers for the endgame; also featuring original Sun/Moon (not Ultra)* because ~*mommy/daddy issues*~
*Sun/Moon is the only other pokemon game I’ve personally played in full (as opposed to watching Let’s Plays), I tried playing Ultra** but it was too much the same and I prefer the original version of Lusamine so that’s what we’re going with.
**Ultra Recon and Rainbow Rocket would have worked so much better as DLC for the original game instead of being locked behind a remake that came out literally right after the original and I’m very salty that we didn’t get that option until switch games.
My basic theory for the Professor’s backstory is this: Sada and Turo are Arven’s parents in both versions, and they both have the obsessive personality shown. Scarlet!Turo and Violet!Sada both left their partners when Arven was young, and I’m going to say it was because of the other’s obsession. There’s a few variations on this; either:
- They were also obsessed with Area Zero, but they ventured too deep and got trapped somewhere or thrown into another dimension - this is my main theory and it ties into the Lusamine parallels because it means the game’s main professor might have been trying to reach them (we’ll get into that later)
- They also wanted to build a time machine, but were heavily in disagreement over whether it should reach into the past or the future, so much so that they left to do their own research elsewhere and never came back.
- They were not as obsessed as the game’s main professor with Area Zero, completely disagreed with the other’s idea to build a time machine and/or even use the tera energy at all, and left out of frustration. (Why this version wouldn’t have taken Arven, especially since it would make more sense for them to want to keep their son out of Area Zero, is a mystery. Maybe they lost a custody battle idk.)
Anyway the point is that one of them leaves, and the other is left a single parent, and this probably hecks them up, and this is where the Lusamine parallels come in so we’ll address those now:
- Basically the other parent leaving suddenly sparks an obsession for the remaining parent to fill that gap with something so that their family will be whole again: for Lusamine this caused her to keep messing with the Ultra Wormholes that took Mohn away in a desperate attempt to find him which lead to her getting infected by Nihilego and going crazy, while Sada/Turo try to fill that gap with Paradox Pokemon and their idea of a “paradise” which leads to them becoming so obsessed with keeping the time machine running that they create a bunch of insane security measures to preserve it.
- Lusamine’s infection cases her to become manic and lose any inhibitions or sense of right or wrong or empathy, leading to her completely abandoning the search for her husband and to start treating her children and pokemon as objects that she wants to be perfected. (It’s a really good metaphor for kids having to deal with a parent that develops a mental illness but that’s another discussion)
- Sada/Turo’s obsession causes them to neglect their son, because they’re so enamored with the idea of a past/future “paradise” that will make their family feel whole again that they don’t realize that what Arven actually needs is for his remaining parent to be there with him. I would like to add that I believe that the pokemon behind the whole tera/paradox phenomenon may have been mentally affecting the Professor just as the Ultra Beasts’ toxins affected Lusamine, even further convincing them that keeping the time machine running was the only was to fix everything, causing them to become so paranoid that they create the Paradise Protection Protocol without even considering that maybe they should have included an override in case their son got caught in it.
- (I have a lot of thoughts on this relating to troubled parents from other media as well, with like Hawkmoth/Gabriel’s obsession with bringing his wife back and Endeavor’s obsession with becoming number one hero and raising a superhero child that didn’t have his weaknesses; basically “if I can achieve this one grand goal it will fix my family/make everything I’ve done worth it in the end”, when it’s the smaller things like consistently being present in your child’s life and supportive of them that would have ultimately meant much more to them than any grand goal and you’re really just doing it for yourself...but this is a POKEMON post and I still haven’t gotten all my theories out yet.)
Actually this is even more interesting of a parallel when you consider what Lusamine tries to do in the endgame - she preserves a bunch of her pokemon in their present forms so that they will stay the same forever, not caring about the past she had with them and stopping them from changing in the future; while Sada and Turo would have destroyed the present ecosystem by bringing back primal pokemon from the past or advanced pokemon from the future because they cared more about those unseen eras than their actual present.
ANYWAY FINALLY GETTING TO MY FIRST THEORY ON WHAT HAPPENED TO ARVEN’S OTHER PARENT
this is where the common “the time machine isn’t actually a time machine it’s just the being responsible for the tera crystals creating “pokemon” based on the Professor’s desires to see past/future pokemon (or pulling them from other dimensions or changing actual pokemon into these paradox forms which is why they’re all so aggressive they’re really just disoriented as hell from dimensional travel/being mutated without consent)” comes into play.
So the “Tera Pokemon”, as I’ll call it, wants to draw humans in and get them obsessed with using it’s power for some unknown reason. It first gets into Scarlet!Turo/Violet!Sada’s head and gets them to leave their newly created family in order to chase their idea for a time machine so they can travel to the future/past, but they end up getting sucked into a wormhole or something before they can get very far with it - possibly ending up in a pocket dimension, or somewhere else in the world but with memory loss? (It is also possible that they actually time travel, but presumably the Tera Pokemon can’t actually do that so maybe another Legendary causes it in that case idk.)
So then game version Sada/Turo comes in also researching Area Zero but maybe also trying to figure out what actually happened to their partner after they left, and the Tera Pokemon gets to them and convinces them that if they succeed in creating the time machine they’ll be able to find their partner and restore their family. In other theories where the partner just left, the Tera Pokemon may have instead tried to convince them that creating their “paradise” would cause S!Turo/V!Sada to see that Sada/Turo was right all along and convince them to come back.
I know that the line about “three of us” living together in paradise is taken to mean the game Professor, Arven, and either the ‘Ridon or Mabosstiff; but what if it was meant to be Arven and both his parents? The past, present and future family and pokemon all living together in harmony?
But then if we go with the theory that the Tera Pokemon can’t actually mess with time travel like some of the other legendaries can, the question arises: where did the AI professor end up after going through that portal at the end of the story?
My theory is that they actually end up in a wormhole/pocket dimension inhabited by the Tera Legendary, and maybe even meet up with S!Turo/V!Sada on the other side. And that’s one of the places we’ll go in the endgame (and we’ll bring them back with us somehow because let this poor boy have parents even if one of them’s a corrupted AI and the other one’s got amnesia or whatever).
And also this Pokemon/phenomena is tied to other legendary Pokemon/phenomena like Mega Evolution and Z-Moves and Dynamaxing and giant boss Pokemon because there’s a lot of similar themes like form changes and type changes and special moves and crystals and willpower and maybe it’s just a bunch of legendary “Pokemon”/creatures tapping into human’s collective unconscious to see what they think is cool and affecting pokemon based on that idk.
That’s my thought’s for now. I might post some bits separately and I’ll also probably make more theories when new DLC stuff comes out, but for now I’m done and I’m gonna go find some sweet herb for my teacher and do job evaluations and whatever.
(Wait one more thing the History Teacher is gonna have some kinda evil plot in the DLC maybe even trying to use the Time Machine again, and also let us overthrow La Primera and put Larry in charge plz)
ok bye. Thanks for reading my insane rants.

Hmmmm.... You're avoiding the question.
Okay, is it true that neither of your parents are actually blonde but you are, due to contact with an ultra beast at a young age?

Gladion initially stole Type: Null with the aim of exposing Aether, hoping to lash out at his mother by showing the world what kind of perilous experimentation was taking place under her orders. When he bonded with Null, however, he abandoned the plan, afraid that the beast would be taken away - and possibly destroyed - if the authorities discovered its existence.

Ok now I’m genuinely curious on WHY Arceus keeps throwing people through time. Like I researched a bit and learned QUITE a few Pokémon trainers have been put through wormholes, traveled through time, and lost their memories. Anabel was one and I learned she was originally a young girl who was apart of the battle tower and was named the Salon Maiden:
Then there’s Looker who we’ve seen quite a few times to help with his work, then we find him in Hoenn with forgotten memories. Which is pretty sad seeing in omega ruby/alpha sapphire….
And now Ingo??? Hell I didn’t know Ingo that much and when I learned about his BROTHER??? Omg I felt so bad….(and his pose 😢 in memory of his brother subconsciously…). Like arceus why you letting this happen? Is there a reason? Hell he did it to the MAIN CHARACTER in legends:arceus. Why???
Update: In the comments, someone reminded me of Mohn, Lillie and Gladion’s dad. Smh him too….he has no idea of his family. Even met Lusamine but she decided to not press him even when she recognized him. That meeting hit hard on the feels since it made me realize how sad and frightening amnesia can be too.

* Hapu is an odd case because she seems quite wise however she lives with her grandma and is incredibly short which likely pegs her as being as young as some of the younger trial captains like Lana & Mallow so she must be around 12-14. Hapu very much gives ageless deity vibes though but I'll go ahead and pin her in the middle as 13 for the sake of having round numbers. Also, fun fact: Hapu's Mudsdale is genderfluid. Diversity win! That horse is gay!

(( I’ve discussed with Leo a little bit about Lusamine’s feelings about immortality and if she would want it and tbh it’s... Complicated??
Though not as dominant as it used to be, she still obsesses over perfection and beauty, and things that are perfect and beautiful should be perfect forever. We’ve seen her freeze Pokemon to immortalize them and keep them perfect and beautiful, and we’ve seen the lengths she’ll go to obtain something that she deems perfect and beautiful in Nihilego Quest. You get to live forever, you get to be beautiful forever, you get to be perfect forever. It should be a no-brainer that she’d want to be immortal, right?
Well. Yes and no?
Had you offered her immortality three plus years ago, I think she would have taken it. She thought herself perfect and beautiful back then, and immortality could be a way of maintaining that. That would be her main focus in accepting it, I think, but with all the time in the world, she would also be able to do whatever she wanted. I think she would still continue reservation work and help Pokemon for as long as possible, just like she dreamed of doing when she was young, but she would have also been even more determined to obtain Nihilego, so she could truly be with her precious beast forever. It would have motivated her to go to even further extremes to get what she wants, because she can’t die. What’s the risk, if you’re immortal?
These days, though... She’s just tired.
Nihilego’s toxins gave her a plethora of health problems that totally ruined her body, she barely has the energy to get the work done that needs to get done, and she struggles with feeling.. Imperfect? Her scars are a massive reason for this, but it’s also her kids abandoning her, it’s Guzma leaving her, it’s Mohn being presumably dead... She’s in constant pain, and she’s totally alone, and in the deepest parts of her that she refuses to acknowledge, she knows it’s her fault. She’s hurting all the time, and she doesn’t have anyone to love her anymore - She doesn’t have anyone to control anymore.
Things like that could change, of course, but Lusamine genuinely cannot imagine living another 30-40 years in her broken excuse of a body, let alone an eternity. Sure, she would be youthful and beautiful forever, but isn’t there a chance that she would still hurt like this? That wouldn’t go away, would it? Her body wouldn’t magically heal itself, right? To live an eternity with this pain - pain that gets progressively worse with age - would be a fate worse than death to her.
She would still think about it, if immortality was ever somehow offered to her. She would lose sleep over it, she would ignore work over it, she would give it so much thought that absolutely nothing productive gets done. In the end, though... I don’t know if she’d take it. Unless it was guaranteed that her body would heal, I think the most likely outcome would be rejection. ))

@musesbymeri
They had just come back from shopping. Gladion was with Mohn, so it was just she and Lillie for now. She set the bag of toys down, smiling at her young daughter.
“Now that we’re home, I think my pokemon would like to be out with us.” she murmured, before kissing the top of Lillie’s head. She took out her pokeballs, releasing the six of them two at a time. First Clefable and Lilligant, then her Buneary and Milotic, then Beware and Mismagius. Buneary immedately hopped over to Lillie, excited to see her.
“What should we do, hm?” she asked Lillie. “As I’ve said, I don’t have work today, so we’re free to do whatever we want.”
Her work was steadily growing, their new organization, the Aether Foundation, was recently taking a lot of both she and Mohn’s time, but they still both did their best to take time off work to spend with their children. Mohn was working on what would become Aether Paradise, and instead of doing so alone, he brought Gladion, as he wanted to talk to him about something, while Lusamine elected to spend the day with Lillie.

Dream
Gladion never tired of stargazing. The night skies above Alola were always beautiful, and there was a special kind of comfort he found only in lying on the sweet smelling grass of Ten Carat Hill with Moon.
He loved being with her.
"Okay, my turn!" Moon said. She scrolled through the list on her Rotom Dex. "Aha! This is a good one. What's your dream?"
"Dream?" Gladion repeated.
"Yup! Goals, aspirations, ambitions... What do you dream of?"
Gladion rolled onto his back and stared up at the starry sky. It was quiet, apart from Moon's light breathing next to him, and the occasional Pokemon cry in the distance. A light breeze tugged at his hair and the warm blanket wrapped around them both.
When Gladion was young, he dreamed of becoming a Pokemon Master. Not just a trainer who would win countless battles with his Pokemon, but an expert who knew all about Pokemon, what they eat, how they live, what they evolve into. An intelligent, knowledgeable, strong and kind person. Someone just like Father.
Then Father disappeared, and Lusamine... fell sick. He'd taken Type: Null and ran, and for two years, all he could think about was surviving. Growing stronger. There was no time for dreams, not when he worried about Lillie, and the Ultra Beasts, and Lusamine's schemes for Ultra Space.
Even when Moon and Lillie had put an end to Lusamine's plans, that didn't really change. Aether had fallen, and Gladion had to spend every waking moment figuring how to get it up again. It was the Aether that Father loved. The Aether that Mother and Lillie loved, too. There was no time for dreams.
And now?
Aether was flourishing. The company had regained its feet, regained the trust of Alola and the world. Its conservation projects were doing well, the Pokemon in their care were given the best treatment. As President, Gladion was more than satisfied that this was the Aether that Mohn would be proud of.
But was there anything else left? Was there... any of Gladion left inside him, that still dreamed?
"I don't know," Gladion said. "I don't even think I know how to dream anymore."
Moon laughed and elbowed him.
"Ow, what!!" Gladion jerked upwards, staring down at her in annoyance. "What was that for?!"
"Don't be so melodramatic, Mr Edgelord," she said, smirking. "You have all the rest of your life ahead of you. You can learn to dream again."
She sat up and took his hand into hers. The moonstone ring on her finger twinkled.
"And I think you already have," Moon said gently.
Her blue-grey eyes were soft, full of warm affection. As he gazed at her, he felt his own lips curl into a smile. Pulling her close, he lay his cheek against hers.
His new dream had already begun.
