Saw this ask. Speaking as a creator:
uBlock Origin
If your browser is based on Chromium or Firefox, go to the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-Ons and just search for the uBlock extension.
For Android, install Firefox or Waterfox, in settings go to Add-Ons and get uBlock and Video Background Fix, then in Settings again set Open links in apps > Never. This should block ads and let you minimise Firefox or lock your screen without stopping the audio from playing. You should also get PiP if you make the video fullscreen first then change app but it can be a little buggy.
iOS is a bit more annoying. Download the Adblock Plus extension for Safari, and I think the PiPifer extension, can't remember if you need both or just the former - set your video fullscreen and then swipe to main menu to go PiP before locking your screen - and make sure your phone doesn't get too warm while playing audio with the screen locked. I think Brave browser also works on iOS for both adblock and audio while locking your screen but I can't recommend it because of the developer.
If you want to still support your favourite creators while blocking ads, see if they have options to support them directly so that YT or Twitch don't take a cut, such as merch or via Ko-fi or Patreon, though always support through browser and never through the Patreon app since Apple also takes their own cut of transactions done via iOS apps.

hey! do you know if blokada works with youtube+twitch as well? tired of wanting to watch things to get ads in my face
Not sure, I don't personally use those apps. But you have options!
Use a "front-end client" app. Basically an unofficial youtube app that can fetch yt videos, comments, etc, but blocks the ads itself. For ad-free Youtube I recommend using NewPipe. For ad-free Twitch, I've heard Twire is good. (I have a longer post about how to do this stuff here. It also links to an app for ad-free Spotify Premium, if you're interested.)
Try it out and see if it works! Blokada is a filter for all your phone's network connections, so if those apps use separate connections for ads versus regular content, then you can block just the ad connections. So, open an app you want to try, (you may need to wait til you see an ad), then go to Blokada and look for connections that look ad-related. Block em and see what happens. It will either A) block some ads, B) block some other functionality, or C) do nothing. Worst case, you can always unblock the connection again. Just by toying around with this, I've discovered some domains can be blocked for Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat to reduce ads and trackers.

God bless the uBlock origin team. The internet is so choked with ads these days, and I really didn't know how much it was bothering me and making my life worse until it all went away--a constant background buzz that got turned off.
Also my self-esteem was MUCH improved by not constantly seeing ads--it's so much easier to look at myself and my life and see what's there instead of focusing on what isn't.
I get that websites and creators have to make money somehow, and sometimes people give me a hard time for ""stealing"" but in that whole conversation there is always a missing piece. People really downplay the actual costs of constantly being shown this crap. If it was just an annoyance, that would be one thing, but the huge quantity of ads add up to have a real, tangible, and undeniably negative effect on mental health, and I simply don't agree that choosing to spare myself that is tantamount to stealing.

Lengths I would go to to watch a youtube video:
open it in anonymous window because the "disable you adblocker" seems to only display to logged-in accounts,
make a list of the small amount of creators I follow, log-off and check each account manually every couple of days for new stuff, never logging back in,
only watch stuff on mobile through services like NewPipe,
or even not watch the video at all, and simply go to other places for content.
Things I certainly won't do:
turn of my adblocker,
buy youtube premium.

I really really hate this whole "YouTube blocking adblockers and forcing you to either buy Premium or have ads" thing. It's so fucking stupid. I shouldn't have to play an Uno reverse card every time YouTube gets wise to a filter in it.
Premium isn't even all that good! It was great when you had access to original series, but once they stopped coming out with those, it's become so hard to justify having it solely to use when I want to listen to videos when I'm at work or moving about with no room in my hands for my phone, especially since it seems like the price for it keeps going up.
They're really intent on killing yet another platform, huh.

Interesting... I switched browsers, away from a chromium-based one (Opera GX) to Firefox and suddenly tumblr is less buggy, too.
A welcome outcome...
Let's hope it stays that way. It's certainly less annoying to navigate the site now.

I just had to get amused again at YouTube's category summary on my main feed.
Yes, that is probably a decent genre summary of my recent nerd viewing. No, you do not need to rub it in.
