how to do things offline

either on your personal hard drive (just because it’s an app doesn’t mean the information is stored in your device) or on paper. I’m not saying the collapse of the internet is imminent, and I’m not suggesting we do everything completely without technology, or even stop using it until we have to. (to be clear, I also don’t think the internet will just blink out of existence, suddenly stop being a thing at all; rather I think it might continue to lose its usefulness to the point where it’s impossible to get anything done. anyway) but some people may have forgotten how we got by before the internet (I almost have!), and the younger generation might not have experienced it at all.

I figure most people probably use the internet mainly for communication with friends and family, entertainment and creation (eg. writing), and looking up how to do things, so here’s how to do those things offline:

First and most importantly, download everything important to you onto at least one hard drive and at least one flashdrive! files can get corrupted and hardware can get damaged or lost, but as long as you keep backup copies, you have much-closer-to-guaranteed access versus hoping a business doesn’t decide to paywall, purge, or otherwise revoke your access. I would recommend getting irreplaceable photos printed as well

download and/or print/write down:

anything important to you - photos/videos, journals, certificates, college transcripts

contact info - phone numbers and/or addresses of friends/family (know how to contact them if you can’t use your favourite messaging app), doctors (open hours would be good too), veterinarians if you have pets, and work

how-to’s - recipes (one, two), emergency preparedness (what do I do if… eg. I smell gas)

other things you might google: cleaning chemicals to NOT mix, what laundry tag symbols mean, people food dogs and cats can and can’t eat, plant toxicity to pets

and know offline ways to find things out - local radio station, newspaper, a nearby highway rest area might have a region map, public libraries usually have a bunch of resources

also, those of you who get periods should strongly consider not using period tracking apps! here’s how to track your period manually

free printable period tracker templates (no printer? public libraries usually charge a few cents per page, or you can recreate it by hand)

moving on to entertainment, you can still get most media for free! it’s completely legal to download your favourite movies to your own personal hard drive, you just can’t sell or distribute copies (not legal advice)

read, write, draw, or whatever your craft is, sing, dance, clean, reorganise, take a bath

go outside - excuses include napping (if safe), eating, reading, finding cool plants/animals/rocks, playing with the dog

library, mall, or game shop

i need ppl to know that

1. you can install an app called "youtube revanced" to have youtube on your phone with no ads and with background play as well as other useful features like sponsor skip (the app isnt on the app store bc obviously google doesnt want you to have it - look up "youtube revanced apk" to find the download file. you can find tutorials on setting it up on reddit or just by looking it up.)

2. speaking of that, you can use the addon "sponsorblock" for firefox or chrome (but, like, come on. switch to firefox.), and it will automatically skip past sponsor read sections in most youtube videos. the timecodes are inputted by other users, so you dont depend on some kind of shitty recognition algorithm to detect the sections, and you can modulate which sections it skips or not (no, this does not hurt the youtubers revenue - manually skipping sponsors is the same and also does not impact revenue)

3. for many mobile games (such as puzzle games and other cozy games), they work offline and either only need to access the internet once in a while for updates, or not at all. you can see if a game works offline by just turning on airplane mode then booting the game. depending on your device, you can either go into the app settings and remove its access to wifi and data, or use an app such as netguard to block wifi/data access from specific apps, and only turn it back on if and when the game needs updating. for any mobile games that work offline, this will stop the game for playing ads between levels/at startup/etc entirely and leave you with only gameplay.

it is a bit harder to get away from ads on mobile because you cant just add an ad blocker to your browser and block everything, but you definitely can avoid ads even in apps that seem to have ads built-in. if you just take the time to download a couple apps or change a couple settings you can just stop seeing ads in many places without needing to pay for any premiums or whatever.

“HOW DOES MOBILE APPS BECOME PART OF MY DAILY LIFE?”

Given that we currently live in the modern era. Anyone has access to the internet through their smartphones, which are truly important to people's everyday tasks nowadays. It can be used for a wide range of purposes, including education, online businesses, and many other things, where it can be applied as fundamental information to many facets of life.

I can't deny that I still have many things to learn about the course I have been chosen for, even if I decided to pursue a degree in information and communications technology and become a teacher soon. Although it may be difficult to evolve, I hope to see an exciting future, five years or ten years from now on. My aim is to provide important information to my incoming students regarding the significance of using mobile apps and the possible advantages as well as disadvantages that may occur for them.

And now for the very interesting part. I created this blog because I was interested to discuss some of mobile apps that I use the most and provide honest feedback based on my experience dealing those apps carefully and using them in the right manner. Let us start and see! 😁👀

Facebook is the leading app I am using everyday. Why? Because, I discovered that I could socialize with people using this app in many ways other than face-to-face interactions, such as reacting and commenting to their posts, sharing memes that I saw on newsfeeds and could apply to my real-life status, joining various group pages to share my knowledge, selling things that can generate a profit and starting a business, and a ton of other freely made things.

Google comes in second. This app is already available on all cellphones that you could purchase. However, when it comes to complete my schoolwork and other assignments on time, that's when it becomes resourcefulness for me. I should not really 100% trusted this app, because, there are some things aren't true to know or can be lead into “misinformation” like in the website of Wikipedia. That's why, sometimes, I love to do my self-tasks alone.

The Messenger, the third one. It was an app that linked to Facebook, making it simpler to send messages to people you knew. I have been using this to connect with my teacher and classmates ever since the pandemic. It can't be access whenever I'm offline but, there's another variant of this app which is called, “Messenger Lite” that even basic mode can still access. Unlike the regular version, I guess.

The next one is YouTube. Through this app, I can watch the daily news that I couldn't watch on TV, to gather an additional information about the lessons in school I think it's hard to be understood, have a good time to watch those missed music videos that came from my favorite artists and so much more things to do.

For the fifth place, Spotify is always there at my phone to save me every time. When I listen to songs out there, it makes me heal from everything I pissed off. But, unfortunately, data or Wi-Fi is needed for this app. That's why sometimes, I listen to my download songs playlist. Whenever I don't have an internet to be used it. This kind of music streams is the best app that I had in my whole life and also, you can subscribe for its premium version (just optional only, if you want to remove ads while having a sound trip alone or with your family everywhere, especially, at home).

The two apps next to Spotify are named, “Microsoft Office 365” and “Canva.” Both are eligible to be used and finished on time, the tasks you want to overcome in everyday life. It makes me assist like an instructor that you can learn a lot from these two apps. That's why, I'm thankful that they created a superior & perfect app for every person who have a struggling problems that unable to solve when it comes to work that include time management.

The eighth one is “Google Chrome” that designed to be that's fastest web browser. With one click, it loads web pages, multiple tabs, and applications with lightning speed. Whenever I'm using this app, there will be always ads popping up. So, as a result, I easily annoyed sometimes but, we can't deny the fact that ads is everywhere, even for those online gamers can relate. As what I said, it allows me to set up tabs as many as I can, just in case I needed those pages.

While, the two left apps on my list are called, “MVLE Mobile” and “Google Classroom.” These two educational purpose apps makes me help to fulfill the tasks that I should be finished on time. Aside from that, they're lessons can pin and students can able to download it then, having a takes notes. So, just in case, our instructors may ask some questions about the lessons we read about the learning materials s/he has given through online access.

As I end of my discussion about my experience that I shared here to those TOP 10 mobile apps that I am usually using everyday. I gained a lot of knowledge to them and since everything we use nowadays are related to technology. We can't force ourselves to be able silence but, to inform other people these apps are having an advantages and disadvantages at the same time. But, I would like to say that, “Be a responsible mobile apps user, especially when you're in social media. Think hard first before you click anything, not everything you may see are true. Just be careful with yourself and others that may affect, if ever you do wrongdoings that's not acceptable in our society.”

YouTube's "smart downloads" is the worst feature I've ever seen and the fact that it's turned on by default for premium users is fucking ridiculous. Apparently it just... downloads some recommended shit in the background "so that you have stuff to watch when you're suddenly offline" and... never autodeletes it??? I've had it turned off on my account from the start and forgot it even exists, but my mom approached me tonight asking to look into why her iPhone storage is suddenly full and I found 96 FUCKING GIGABYTES of downloaded videos on it. What the actual fuck. Why is it called "smart" downloads. It's literally dumb as fuck and also incredibly user unfriendly. And it's a paid feature. Which they just shove down your throat by default even though you were paying so you can watch stuff in the background and without ads, not so that an algorithm can clog your device memory.

method 1: mp3 app theres multiple apps you can download that allow you to upload mp3 files from your computer onto your phone and listen offline and free from interruption (there might still be ads but not ones that screw with your music). if you have a spotify playlist you can use a website to transfer download it as mp3 files, the way they do this however is through youtube and sometimes they may chose the wrong video to save. so what i do instead is transfer the spotify playlist to a youtube playlist, edit that youtube playlist to make sure all the videos are of the exact versions of each song that i want, then download the youtube playlist as mp3s. then the app on my phone connects to the browser on my computer and lets me upload the files.

method 2: mp3 player you can also just get an mp3 player, they still make them and they also make them with bluetooth, you can just put your files on that.

method 3: CDs + portable player sorta vintage but fun anyway. you can buy disc burners, CDs, and portable CD players (yes they make ones that connect with bluetooth). just burn your files into some CDs (every CD can hold a little over an hour) and you can take physical copies of your playlists everywhere!! you can also make little pictures to put on every one which is so cool :) i think this is so cool because its like having records of your favorite artists without having to have a record money!
