What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? I don't really do angst-angst, but The Winding Roads They Led Me Here is probably the most obviously not-a-happy-ending thing I've written?

What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending? I am surveying my corpus and learning that wow, I write a not inconsiderable number of things about learning to live when you don't really want to? Shan't be analysing that too closely, tyvm, but I do remain pleased with the way And Green the Ground Below and Breathe In For Luck came out. For sheer straightforward glee at the ending, it's gotta be never knew a part of you / you didn't set in ink

Do you write crossovers? No, I imagine crossovers at great length and then make no moves towards writing anything down (see: the sprawling Nirvana in Fire/Vorkosigan series Entity that gets passed around between me and several friends, which consists entirely of one of us going 'hey have you thought about if X met Y?' and then yelling about that for several hours straight)

Have you ever received hate on a fic? lol, only from the one person who told me 'toxic xiyao' was ruining MaMG, which is very funny to me because that's kind of the point in that fic

I doubt I ever would, because I'm not confident in the spoken forms of any language I quote-unquote 'know', and I also find the 'multilingual character uses non-English endearments for their beloved' trope to be...a little painful, but I'm not averse to the idea on principle, though I suspect it requires more skill than people generally think to pull it off well

What was the first fandom you wrote for? hhhhh fucking. Sherlock Holmes (ACD stories), I think. Maybe the Psmith books by PG Wodehouse? I think it's for the best that the fic I wrote as a teen is marooned somewhere on LJ

What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to? I'm not going to do it, because it involves way too much compartmentalising not to set off my RPF squick, but god those sad boat men from The Terror are compelling and would bring me nicely back into my wheelhouse of repressed Victorians and also the Navy (I think I never actually finished writing anything for the Hornblower fandom back in the day, but my god it was not for lack of trying)

K: What’s the angstiest idea you’ve ever come up with?

I feel like angst is my wheelhouse, my main inspiration, my true writing love, so this is hard to answer lmao.

Overall it's proooobably a Berserk fic idea I had which was an AU where the darkest most fucked up moment in canon didn't happen; instead there's a long drawn-out plot where Guts the protag becomes a monster, Griffith the other protag is traumatized as hell after a year of torture, they're obsessively in love and it's fucked up, they conquer a kingdom together in some very dark and ruthless ways, and it ends with Griffith realizing he has to keep going and expanding the kingdom to pursue his dream and instead goading Guts into killing him. If done right it would be worse in some ways than canon - the slow creeping dread of things getting worse and worse and more fucked up, eg. Casca would get a happy ending though lol.

For Mash... I have some subtler angst ideas along similar lines to stuff I've already written, but probably the most overtly darkficcy idea I have that I mmmmay one day post is one where Frank happens to get proof that Hawkeye and Trapper are fucking, and stumbles into blackmailing Hawkeye into sex. Though that would have a hefty dose of black humour too, since it's Frank, especially Frank from Hawk's bitterly scathing pov. But yk, still fucked up and dark and angsty.

L: What’s the weirdest AU you’ve ever come up with?

AUs on the other hand are not my wheelhouse because I'm not creative lol so hmm... maybe the vampire AU idea I had for Mash? I wrote like 5 pages of it at one point and probably won't finish it but it's an idea and it's kinda weird. Basically Trap and BJ are vampires, Hawkeye is someone who has magically fast-replenishing blood as a result of having been fed on habitually in the past (he dated a vampire and it's a perk), so he's drafted in the dual role of surgeon and vampire food. Something about the army treating people as commodities, and also vampires fucking while feeding because duh.

M: Got any premises on the back burner that you’d care to share?

One I don't think I've chatted about with you before, is one where Hawkeye pretends he lost a bet and crossdresses for a day when he discovers that it's one of Trapper's major turn-ons, even though he doesn't see the appeal himself. Sort of a combination historically grounded discussion of androgyny, and just plain kink. Inspired by seeing a lot of fandom talk about and portray Hawkeye as like, blushingly nervous/awkward about crossdressing/femininity (either as a gender awakening thing or just as a cute awkward thing) and wanting confident Hawkeye who has already had all his awakenings and just has fun with it.

U: A pairing you might like to write for, but haven’t tried yet.

For Mash, maybe Hawkeye/Charles? I haven't posted any Hawk/BJ yet but I've definitely written it so I'm not counting that. Hawkeye/Scully one night stand would be good too, though I'm not super motivated on that bc you've filled that niche well already lol.

FINALLY!!! THE TIME HAS COME!!! ANIME IMPULSE TIME W/ MY FRIEND!!!!!!!

as it turns out, we may or may not have arrived 2 hours before opening time, so we may or may not have had to wait in line for 2 hours until the gates opened and we were free to wreak havoc. but in the meantime, i tried to grind out some of my arcaea stamina and finally tried out Party Vinyl BYD-10, which - to my surprise - was actually a really fun and good chart??? ik this one is really widely hated so i was surprised by how good it actually was, no idea where the hate comes from now. loved it so much that i ended up getting an EX after a few tries!!! (same with Quon BYD-10, which i also played for the first time and ALSO really liked!!

here's me briefly using my friend's hands as a phone stand and clearing the funny hold note song while i was at it LOL

but eventually, after waiting a full 2 hours in line and being hyped up by the staff there, the floodgates opened and we were allowed to dive right into the chaos... of ANIME IMPULSE!!!! while my friend wanted to go straight to the VA signings, i had my eyes set on playing one game in particular for the first time...

you may have noticed the title of a unique game that hasn't appeared on this account so far. why's that? originally i meant to play it at sakuracon earlier this year, but i was drawn too much to chunithm and other games to pay it any mind (and also the lines for the cab were too long). but finally, being one of the first to see the cabs, i was able to jump right on it and, for the very first time in 2dkaps ddr history... play O.N.G.E.K.I.!!!!! ...of course, i kinda sucked at it, but that didn't stop little ol' me!!! (this GP system is so confusing though)

aaaaand that's all!!! (for ongeki, that is)

afterwards, i hopped on chunithm to experience it again in all its beautiful 120hz glory... but i then came to the realization that i was proooobably gonna be stunted by this Hellish glare being casted onto the screens (from all the skybridge windows). yes, what you see on the screen in each score is exactly what i saw while playing. yes, i had to set my field wall to 6 to make it even a slight bit readable, no, it didn't stop me from getting some fucking INSANE scores today like holy SHIT HOW DID I DO ALL THIS

first was just a 990 on a 14, nothing special, cool cool, but then i tried shukusei shinpan on my card for the first time (previously only got to play it in guest mode) and got a really good 995 at first??? followed it up with a 998 or something like that (not pictured) before... at long last... after so many grueling attempts and so much trouble posed by the evil screen glare... it actually happened...

I ACTUALLY GOT IT!!! AFTER SO LONG!!!! SHUKUSEI SHINPAN (MASTER 15) 1,000,155 SS!!!!!!! 15 SS #1!!!! MY FIRST 15 SS EVER!!!! AND IN AOYAGI TOYA COSPLAY!!!! (the score is somehow actually more visible in the selfie because of the glare being lower LMFAO)

BUT THAT'S NOT THE END OF MY SESSION!!! NOT EVEN *CLOSE*!!! THERE'S *WAY* MORE WHERE THAT CAME FROM!!!! examples? why, of course!! 8-EM (Master 14+) 999k into 1.001M SS, followed by a sightread SSS on Inpaqq (Master 13+), and then an almost-SSS+ Full Combo on BlythE (Master 14)!!!

went to the artist alley for a little while with my friend, trying to find stuff to buy but almost coming back empty-handed (though with a few exceptions of purchases since . yaknow .) but once i got back from my spree and went to the arcade with my friend again, we hopped back on danevo and i IMMEDIATELY took the opportunity to sightread and get this really funny AA on Memeshikute Master (pictured)

back to chunithm, where i got the really funny thought of "what if i hit rainbow while i was at this con?" looking through my options and really having nothing better to do (other than spend More money at the artist alley), i gave it a go, intense cloudy glare and all. this gave way to... a lot of really damn good scores, actually! SS on a lot of 14+s that turned out to be 14.9s when i looked them up... it was really surprising to see myself perform at this caliber honestly LOL

oh also, an almost S+ on World Vanquisher (Master 15), a 995k on Contrapasso -inferno- followed by a 999k on it somehow LMFAO (Formerly Master 14+, now Master 15 as of Chunithm New Plus (please get me updated aghh)), a first try 992k S+ on POTENTIAL (Master 15), a sightread 997k S+ on We Gonna Journey (Ultima 14+), a clean SS first try on Viyella's Tears (Master 14+), and then a 985k S on ANU (Master 15)!!!

...whew! that was a lot of grinding and a lot of really good scores. but i'm still not quite at rainbow... ah well, let's take a break anyways with some really glare-filled DDR A20 PLUS!!! ...oh, how i missed you... (but also how i hate this glare of yours)

a brief return to chunithm in a desperate attempt to get as much rating before the end of the day... which was surprisingly soon!!! everything closed at 7 PM, and it wasn't until it was almost too late that i realized... but as i bid farewell to the cabs and went to the artist alley to get one more thing, i got in a few more scores that were just. Insane beyond belief. so there's the SS on Apocalypse ni hangyaku (Master 14+) of course, pretty cool pretty nice upscore, but then.... out of absolutely nowhere and completely unexpected... i got a FULL COMBO ON ELEMENTAL CREATION ULTIMA 14+??? A 14.9??? AND I GOT A FULL COMBO??? HOW??????????? I WAS IN SHOCK WHAT THE HELL

even more than that, i got 15 SS #2 IN THE SAME DAY ON CONTRAPASSO -INFERNO- AFTER JUST A FEW EXTRA TRIES!!!! I WENT *OFF* THIS SESSION AND I'M STILL IN SHOCK . HOW DID I EVEN DO IT

but alas, of course, it was closing time, so i had to head home and give up on my dream to jump from 15.74 to rainbow in a single day... but from all this work, i managed to get up from a measly 15.74 rating from last con to a massive 15.94 that's in the top 100 of the server's rankings??? i'm really excited to see what i can do if given another opportunity, and it looks like i'll have one soon... but for now, i'd like to appreciate this session well done! i'll say it now while i'm writing this in the future, but due to homework and general business i wasn't able to make it to the second day of the con and thus i actually didn't have another chance to get rainbow. but it was far better for my future tbh, and i'll always have another chance for this. thanks for reading!

Phil sat back in his chair unable to look away from the screen, every urge to deny what was happening etched onto his face but, science didn't lie... "Be with the people you love tonight..." John said it quietly. You couldn't believe what you were hearing for different reasons. You'd finally found something SO good. You'd had a crush on Phil ever since you'd started working here. He had boundless enthusiasm for space, just like you did. And you could sit and talk about your projects for hours. He made you feel welcome right away, and always took time to walk past your office and see how you were doing. But, you weren't even really dating yet... And now.... Everything was going to be taken away from you? John took his leave, leaving you both still sitting there in silence. Was there anything you could even say…? What about all the things you couldn’t say? What about all the things you wish you could say… That it was far too early to say!? Phil swiveled his chair to you, and opened his mouth. But nothing, there was nothing in this world that he could say that would make anything about the situation better. His eyes dropped from yours, sorrowful and he turned back to the computer. You decided not talking was wasting time you no longer had; "Is there anywhere we can even go?" He shook his head at the simulation "Trying would be too desperate. We're talking at least 1 miles’ worth of penetration... I don't think there's anywhere on Earth, conceivably, we can get to AND survive in. This is our extinction event..." It was weird, when you thought about how long you now had left, that something that small was now the most significant thing he could possibly do - "So the question is... What would you like to do with the time we have left? Where would you go? Who would you want to be with..." He twisted back to his computer, trying to figure out where he could drive to in those amount of hours. If he could see his family one last time. If he could Introduce them to you... The prospect of a shot-gun wedding even sounded tempting. You took a deep breath, taking his hand in yours "I want to be right here. With you." He looked to you again, eyebrow raised "You want to spend your last few hours working!!” "It's not just work! It's our life's work! We will be recording something no-one else ever has or ever will! Surely, someone out there needs to witness, to record exactly what's going to happen." "... You're crazy." You shook your head "I want to be with you. In the place I met you."  ** The sunshine was too bright, too hot. And you were in this room together alone, away from the chaos outside. The screen distorted, once, twice, then fizzed out and back to life. You both knew, time was near. You stared at the numbers again. Horrific though it might have been this was the most fascinating thing. But you were scared. Would you feel anything? Would you feel nothing? What happened afterwards??  You must have looked scared because Phil took your face in his hands and turned you towards him. "No more. Ignore it. Our work is done. It's over. It's complete..." "But Phil I..." "I’ll be damned if the last thing I ever do is look at numbers on a screen, and not your face." Your eyes widened in the shock of his honesty. You bit your lip, and then closed the gap. The kiss was beautifully bittersweet, and he wrapped his arms around you and held you as close as he possibly could. Everything was almost blindingly bright white when it was over. He pushed his forehead to yours; "I love you." It was the first and last time he was ever going to get to say it to you; "I should have told you sooner." "I love you too." you wound your arms around him "... We didn't know it would end this way..." He placed a hand to the back of your head as everything started to get hazy pushing your face protectively into his chest. Taking your other hand in his he entwined his fingers with yours and placed your hands between you, so you could feel each other’s heartbeat. "Close your eyes..." Phil’s voice was on the edge of breaking. But you did as he asked. He buried his face in your shoulder and you knew instantly, the warmth you were feeling was from him. Somehow as your body and your brain accepted this was your fate it tuned everything out that wasn't Phil, his heart, the way he felt holding you. He closed his eyes too, and all at once he knew this couldn't be the end, his voice now a whisper; "I will find you, Y/N... Whatever happens after this. I promise... I will find you."

Rhapsody on Seven Days Rhapsody

zenigata has canonically trained his ears to recognize the sound of the fiat starting up. fiat whisperer. fhsjadfask I love you pops (he's mostly here for comic relief in this one but by god he does it so well)

honestly the subtitle of this special could be 'polycule scheduling problems' (also incontrovertible proof that if it ever really came down to it fujiko would 100% get goemon in the divorce. fujigoe folks come get your good fucking food)

- a particularly upsetting jigen's evil exes situation in this one, but at least the dude is arguably kind of handsome and quite clever this time so I guess there's always that. somehow it's so sad to me that the thing he offers (and knows jigen won't turn down) is to 'fix their relationship'. uuuuugh you just know this guy would sometimes stroke his hair and smile at him while they were fucking and jigen's poor fucked up love starved brain looked at that very barest veneer of human care and decency, however feigned, and went and decided that meant he owes him.

in some ways this dude's much worse because he's not stupid or just plain nuts, tho. like jigen honey I know this is not your strongest suit at the best of times but self respect, buddy, don't let people push your buttons like this ;___;

- a lady plants an impassioned surprise kiss on jigen in a flashback near the beginning and HE DOESN'T EVEN TAKE HIS HANDS OUT OF HIS POCKETS AT ANY POINT OF IT fkjhdsjklasfsdaljkh iconic (he did clearly care about her but proooobably not in quite the same way as she did for him huh lol)

yes. indeed. this did happen. more than once, in fact. this whole special is SPECTACULARLY gay, which I know is a high bar indeed for a lupin installment. some of it is in the form of gay jokes but it didn't feel like particularly malicious ones as these things go this time around, if you see what I mean. also fuck you I'm not taking it as jokes it's just nice to have on-screen confirmation that lupin is into goemon's tits as much as fujiko's (great content for most pairings in this tbh)

- this is of course an incredibly silly stupid story, as all lupin iii stories are, and don't let the fact that I found it very entertaining fool you into thinking otherwise, but it feels like there's something real and quite sweet in the running theme around heaven and hell in this one, especially when lupin and jigen have that reconciliation conversation where, I don't know... all the dread and deadness is taken out of it by that sense of looking at someone like 'I know I'm going to hell in the end, but that's okay because I'm going there with you and as long as it's the two of us we could make even that a fucking party'. like yeah, I think that's what it's all about when you get right down to it, that kind of partnership.

(also jigen's stone cold "you can't" in response to riat trying one last ditch guilt trip *chef kiss*. again -- this idea of both heaven and hell as lonely places vs. what lupin and jigen talk about ever so indirectly in that scene after the fire, tho. thoughts. emotions.)

- goemon and taking down a helicopter name a more iconic duo (possibly 'zenigata and crashing them' gets close)

how am I supposed to not be ready to lay down my life for him at a moment's notice. what do you want from me. am I fashioned from cold unfeeling steel? is my heart a lump of ice? am I to remain unmoved by him using a high squeaky voice to make the puppet go 'hai!'????

- this one has some GREAT lupin characterization for me. it's the perfect blend of silliness and competence (and occasional straight up ruthlessness). the god of failing upwards and having fun the whole face-planting way

- still thinking about how, when lupin shoots jigen's hat off in their standoff, it's treated as more of a disarming than if he'd actually, y'know, disarmed him. that part is also the only time you see jigen's eyes in this entire special, I'm pretty sure, which is really emphasized by all the close ups during the scenes where he's realizing just how fucked up his employers are and you don't get access to his eyes at all. sort of like a mix of emotional vulnerability + helping him see clearly again going on here, especially since it's heavily hinted riat brings out old bad habits in him (namely numbness, near-fatal levels of unassertiveness and a light sprinkle of suicidality, what a cocktail).

WHAT A FUCKING POWER MOVE!! Lupin really went 'I stole your diamond, I stole your hostage, most importantly I stole your man and unlike you I'm gonna treat him right... and I did it all without wearing any pants (they're in custody. zenigata's got them)'

the way riat keeps talking about lupin in relation to jigen is so funny tho he is one step away from pulling out the 'don't worry I'll get you back to the ol' ball and chain in one piece by the weekend buddy' card

- I'm still cracking up about the fact that lupin made jigen come with him to the store where he was planning to buy ice (as in frozen water) and nothing else, apparently just because he wanted the company, and all he seems to have needed to do was go 'hey jigen c'mon I need you for something let's go' with no further explanation lmao. you needy lil shit lupin <3 (adorable to just have them have a cute domestic conversation as they walk through a comically bad neighbourhood haha, lupin's infodumping about an extremely niche yet intense current interest of his while jigen both follows along and offhandedly averts a robbery, and the situation has the definite vibe that this type of conversation happens regularly between them)

- warning that there is some very questionable stuff around an underage female character in this one and while I think they don't quite cross the line into completely heinous territory with it, it did make me a bit uncomfortable in places so, y'know, mind how you go etc.

I'd wanted to see the Theron romance and ended up choosing the Worst Possible Character for it, so that's why I never mention it. Xaerez romanced him, too, and it's canon for his story

Raphios is in the process of doing the Lana romance, I just need to finish Yavin with them so I can continue the romance

Synnda! He was my OG toon (I can't remember when I started playing, rip), the one my legacy shares a name with (Synnda V'ehsz / V'ehsz Legacy), and he has, ah...quite a few clones scattered across the various severs. OG Synnda is more or less retired on Satele Shan, and the version I currently play on Star Forge is an Outlander Token clone, but yeah! he's my oldest

Feymark! for my pub-side HM prog team, I figured I should proooobably make a shadow tank for those fights that shroud is important (only had vanguard or guardian tanks before), so that's what Fey was created for

he's actually Kitty's kid that he had, and gave up for Fey's safety, when he was younger and fleeing the Empire. Fey knew this (or at least part of it) thanks to his adoptive parents, and while it saddened him he didn't hold a grudge against Kitty (undecided if he'll ever actually meet Kitty, or at least know Kitty's one of his biological parents)

he's half-Miraluka, and "sees" better through the Force than with his eyes. he grew up wanting to help people, and provides aid for Alliance relief efforts into later V'ehsz Canon

in-game he's a Jedi shadow, but canonically he's neither Jedi nor Sith, and also not interested in taking part in the Alliance's Force Enclave. due to lack of training, his Force abilities are limited to natural Force-sight as a result of his species, and using it randomly/lashing out in times of severe emotional distress

I discovered Kaylor during the promo for the Bad Blood MV.

I had been a fairly casual TS fan all my life, but I dove in *hard* on Tumblr during 1989. I did not have any suspicions of "narratives" or public image manipulation at that point. In May of 2015, one of the Bad Blood posters released was Karlie. She was unique to me because she was one of the handful I didn't recognize. I started looking into her and who she was to TS.

I don't remember how exactly I got here, but I do remember the London boat trip. I remember being baffled by all of this bearding information. About TS' gay history. And I cried because I was so ecstatic that my hero might be one of us.

Kaylor has been an unspeakably massive and influential part of my life since then. Last fall I transferred to a public relations major because of my years of fascination with Kaylor, bearding, and publicity overall. It has been the greatest decision I've ever made; PR is endlessly fascinating and fun! And I can't even list all of the incredible friends I have been blessed enough to meet through the Gaylor fandom...

ANYWAY!

Ignis is confused but that’s okay because the Prince is actually being the Prince of Lucis and that’s all Ignis ever really wanted? The special uniform and the pastries are nice and they make Ignis feel appreciated but he’s also super stoked to actually be able to do his job. This is fantastic Ignis doesn’t know why Noctis getting a boyfriend seems to have unlocked the Prince’s previously unexplored nobleese oblige but Ignis will cut anyone who tries to interfere.

Poor Gladio is doing a lot more lifting than he’s used to. No, Prince Noctis you cannot fight the Minister of the Interior. Yes, I did hear what he said about the Glaives and I agree that was very rude of him. Seemed like a very stark contrast between this guy and him. While Terry seemed to be excitable and eager, the same couldn’t be said for ol’ ass-cape over here. Curious, probably? But not one for playing around, she assumed. Seemed like a straight edge.

Not that she hasn’t made friends with straight edges before~. She found the differences fascinating. How there could be bots so advanced, and also so different. A lot were no better than overgrown punching bags, and yet, these two were… well, people.

Couldn’t help but smile at the thought. Something about it all just warmed her heart.

“… Personally, I would have concluded that it was merely to keep your face warm…” She appeared to have pretty short fur, and winter was on the horizon. Thankfully, Neo never had to worry about such things; without the summer heat or humidity of spring, his cooling fans could finally take a God damn break.

He’s getting there, slowly- being… Cooperative. He does find this conversation to be interesting. As one could imagine, most of his life & core memories were spent under the thumb of his creator. The Doctor was a genius, bestowing sentience & self-awareness upon him, being able to make far more calculated decisions in his missions… Before that all went up in flames by Neo’s hands.

But Neo had barely dipped into the surface of what lies beneath… Well, all of that. It seemed he may have been coded with a streak of stubbornness. His head tilts at her next question, quite amusingly similar to that of a confused pup.

“Friends? I don’t have friends. I don’t have interest in making friends. I make alliances.” … He does believe a relationship should be of exclusive mutual benefit, a very black & white ideal, for certain. But he doesn’t scoff or roll his eyes at her, like he may have done under usual circumstances… Admittedly, he’s invested in this conversation.

“I don’t have a need for ‘company’ or ‘companionship’, as I was not created to be social.” He probably doesn’t need to clarify that. She can almost certainly tell. “If I believe someone may be of use to me, and I may be of use to them, we are allies… The only perhaps ‘meaningless’ connections I have are to the other Metal Sonic series robots. I could compare it to something like a familial relationship.”

They all shared the same goal, in the end; kill Sonic. But some of them that he’d been in contact with had since given up on that goal- granted they shared the similar ability to think for themselves. But some of them hadn’t. And his respect for all of them were shared, equally, no matter what.

Unconditionally.. As if they were family. They were technically related, if only by being the same line of robot, and being created by the same person.

“But they are machines, like me.” He adds. “I’m far more inclined to trust something that I am… The same as, so to speak. I can imagine you feel the same way about me.”

Well, most people have an inherent distrust towards him, because… He was created to be a danger… But you know.

Stupidest Thing You've Ever Done: Oooh god, my childhood friend and I once found an old shed on the far back of my property as kids and decided we wanted to break the windows, we just took rocks and bricks and when we were finally caught, my excuse for how the windows got broken was that "we were throwing rocks at the tree and they bounced off and hit the shed." There were no trees even close enough to the shed for that to happen but it was my story and I was sticking to it. 8 year old me was not changing my mind.
