I’d love a request where the reader is Bobbys daughter and dating Buck. It’s a hot day and the reader has gone to the firehouse to see everyone but she ends up feeling unwell because of the heat and Buck looks after her.
hello, love! ahh thank you so much for this request! and thanks to everyone who voted! it's my first time writing for Buck so I hope you like it! also, I'm not sure why, I swear I read somewhere that Bobby didn't know they were dating so that's kind of the course this took, so I hope that's okay! Warnings: reader faints because of the heat; I think that’s it, but always let me know if I missed anything Disclaimer: I don’t own 9-1-1 😊 gif isn’t mine 😁
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Heatwave
"Okay, how does this look?" you asked, placing the lasagna in the middle of the table. Buck had texted you that the team was on their way back so you needed to hurry up.
"For the third time, honey, yes. It looks good" Athena said as she brought the bread with her and you went over to finish the salad you were making. You had learned a thing or two from your father and you started to actually enjoy cooking. It brought the two of you together after you lost the rest of your family, and it usually helped calm you down, but not today. "Look, I know you're nervous about telling your dad about you and Buck, but you need to breathe and relax" she said, walking closer to you.
You had been seeing Buck for a long time now. At first, you didn't want to tell your dad, mostly because you weren't even sure if the two of you were serious. Then, it got serious quickly and the two of you agreed to tell your dad when you were both ready. So now, because the two of you wanted to move in together, you knew you had to tell him. So, here you were, cooking your father's favorite meal for lunch, and hoping to have your dad in a good mood for later tonight when you were going to finally tell him.
"I know, I know" you said to Athena, who had kindly volunteered to help you since it was her day off. "It's just... my dad has hated every single boyfriend I've had" you told her.
"Oh, I know. He's told me about all the insipid, idiot, good-for-nothings you've dated before" she said, making you widen your eyes at her. "His words not mine" she said, making you roll your eyes. "But he adores Buck, like his own son. I mean, they even went to a Bruce Springsteen concert together" she reminded you.
"Ugh, I know, nobody loves Springsteen as much as those two" you said, making Athena let out a chuckle. "Look, I know he loves Buck... as part of his team. I'm not sure if he's gonna love Buck as my boyfriend" you said, nervously.
"Of course he will. Because as much as he loves Buck, he loves you more than anything and anyone" she reminded you. "And he's going to see how happy he makes you" she smiled.
"You really think so?" you asked, smiling back.
"I really do" she nodded. It actually meant a lot to you what Athena thought too. You knew she didn't particularly like Buck at first, but she had mentioned to you how he's changed and how she sees that the two of you brought out the best in each other. "Looks like they're here" she said, when you saw the truck pulling into the station.
"Okay" you said, placing the salad on the table. "I think the bear claws are done" you said, wiping your hands on your apron, and went over to the oven.
"Really? You had to make his favorite dessert?" Athena said, rolling her eyes. "Aren't you trying a bit too hard?"
"Better safe than sorry" you smiled nervously.
"Hey, what's all this?" Hen asked, being the first one to get upstairs.
"Do I smell your dad's famous lasagna?" Chim was the next one to appear. "Please tell me I'm right" he smiled, seeing at the setup table.
"You are correct" you smiled.
"Oh, this is why you're my favorite Nash" he smiled.
"Hey! I heard that" you heard your father coming up. "This is a nice surprise" he smiled, looking at the two of you before he went over to his wife and gave her a kiss.
"Yeah-" Athena started before you interrupted her.
"It was Athena's idea" you quickly said. "I uh, just... tagged along to help with the cooking" you smiled as Buck and Eddie finally made it upstairs.
"Hey, little Nash" Eddie said, walking over to greet you. Aside from Athena, he was the only one who knew about the two of you. And Christopher.
"Well, I'm happy to see you" Bobby said, before walking over to you and kissing your head. "Both of you" he added. "This looks good, duck" he smiled as you rolled your eyes a little.
"Why is it that he calls you duck?" you heard Chimney ask when he was taking his seat.
"Why does he call you Chimney?" you smirked and he glared at you.
Your dad laughed and walked over to the table with Athena as he started telling Hen and Chim that he called you duck because you used to be a really grumpy kid and when you were a toddler, you sounded like Donald Duck whenever you argued with him about something.
"Hey" Buck said, walking closer to you as you walked to the oven. "How are you feeling?" he smiled.
"I'm... fine" you smiled wearily.
"You're a terrible liar" he chuckled.
"I know" you said, opening the oven and feeling the heat struck you. It was already extremely hot outside. This just made it ten times worse. "I'm just a little nervous" you said, getting back up, suddenly feeling dizzy, and making you drop the tray with bear claws a bit faster and louder than you intended on the counter, getting the attention of the four people on the table.
"Whoa" Buck said, worriedly, getting closer to you.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Eddie asked. "You're sweating a lot"
"Yeah, no I just... felt a bit light-headed" you said, placing your wrist on your forehead.
"Did you eat something today? Maybe you need to sit down" Buck said pulling you closer to him. "Look at me" he instructed.
"I'm fine, sweetheart-" you tried smiling before Buck saw your eyes roll over to the back of your head and you collapsed in front of him. He quickly wrapped his arms around your waist, preventing you from falling all the way to the ground.
"Bobby!" Buck yelled, even if Bobby was already rushing to you as Buck and Eddie carried you to the sofa.
"Chim! Hen! Get your bag!" Bobby ordered. "What happened?"
"I think it's the heat" Eddie said as Chimney came running back up with his bag, handing Hen what she needed.
"Did she eat anything at all today?" she questioned.
"Not while she was with me" Athena replied.
"She didn't have breakfast either" Buck said, feeling guilty. He was the main reason why you were late and didn't have breakfast.
"What? She didn't?" Bobby asked, confused. "Wait, how do you know that?"
"Um... she texted me?" Buck smiled, nervously as Eddie and Athena shared a look, thinking it was probably best to give everyone some space.
"You two... text each other?" Bobby asked as Chimney and Hen shared a different, confused look.
"Oh, I did not see this coming" Chim muttered to Hen.
"Seriously? You didn't?" she asked before going back to examining you.
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
You slowly opened your eyes and realized you were at the 118 station and you had a cold cloth pressed against your forehead. You tried to sit up but Buck quickly ran over to you.
"Whoa, easy there, love" he said, sitting on the coffee table in front of you. "Hi" he smiled sweetly at you, offering you a bottle of water. "How are you feeling?"
"A bit dumb, to be honest" you chuckled, accepting the water and taking a sip. "W-what happened?"
"You fainted" he reminded you. "Sweetheart, why didn't you tell me you hadn't eaten today?"
"I'm sorry" you frowned. "I didn't think it would be a big deal. I didn't have time to eat this morning and, then I went to work, and then I started cooking and I lost track of time and, I guess the heat didn't help" you said shyly.
"No, it didn't" your dad said, walking over and sitting on the edge of the sofa. "How are you feeling duck?"
"A bit better" you said.
"Well, it's a good thing your boyfriend is always alert and quick on his feet" he said, casually.
"Yeah, he- wait, what did you say?" you froze, realizing what he'd just say. "Did I hit my head?" you asked Buck. "Did my dad just call you my boyfriend?"
"Yeah, I'm sorry, sweetheart" Buck smiled apologetically. "I know you had a whole thing planned tonight, but I let it slip that you didn't have breakfast today, and well... I kind of told him" he explained.
"Y-you did?" you asked, feeling a bit nauseous again. "Does he know we're moving in together?"
"What?!"
"He does now" Buck said with a tight-lipped smile.
"You're moving in together?" your dad asked.
"I uh-" you stuttered. "Y-yeah" you admitted. "W-we were going to tell you tonight at dinner" you insisted.
"Is that why you came to make my favorite lunch? So I'd be in a good mood?" he asked, knowing you too well.
"M-maybe?" you smiled. "A-are you mad?"
"No, honey. I'm not mad" he chuckled, pulling you closer and kissing your temple. "I don't love the fact that you hid it from me for so long" he added. "But I'm glad you're with someone who I know cares about you as much as I know Buck does" he smiled. "And, if I'm being honest, I kind of suspected it for a while" he said, surprising you.
"You did not" you glared at him.
"You both are terrible liars and I mean, you only make bear claws when you're giving me bad news" he smirked, making you roll your eyes.
"Wait, does that mean, I'm bad news?" Buck asked.
"What? N-no" you said unconvincingly. "I make them when I'm not sure how he will react" you insisted.
"Yeah" Bobby said. "To bad news" he repeated with a chuckle. I'm glad you're happy, duck" he told you.
"Thanks, dad" you smiled. "I really am" you told him.
"I'm gonna go get you something to eat, okay?" he said, getting up and kissing your head again. "Don't ever scare me like that again" he muttered before walking away.
"So, your dad knows about us" Buck smiled at you.
"Yeah, and it didn't go bad at all" you said, excitedly.
"Not bad at all? Sweetheart, do I need to remind you that you just fainted?"
"Well, yeah but... I mean aside from that" you pouted, making him smile at you before giving you a peck on the lips.
"You really scared me" he said, worriedly.
"I'm sorry, love" you insisted.
"You don't have to apologize" he said. "Especially since it was kind of my fault you didn't have breakfast" he said, blushing a little. "But now that we are going to live together, I will make sure you don't leave the house without eating first" he instructed, making you roll your eyes a little.
"Fine" you smiled before he leaned in for another kiss. "I love you" you told him.
"I love you too" he smiled.
The End

okay but bobby saying he needs his team in the first episode and then them showing up right in time in the third is just, there's something there. because bobby says he needs his team almost like he believes he can't do this without them. because who is bobby nash? he's the captain of the 118 and his back is constantly covered by his team and he's used to directing them more so than himself. and even more than that all of them have been a huge support for him not just professionally but personally as well and now he's in this dangerous situation without them and maybe that felt lonely. maybe bobby has thought that without his support he isn't anything. but we see him do it, yes with help, but also it's just him taking charge and diving in and doing what needs to be done, even going off on his own to save that kid. and it's just, maybe this showed bobby that he is enough, that yes he's so lucky and happy to have these people in his life and he wouldn't ever choose to be without them no matter what they do or don't give him, but he's capable and strong on his own and he (and athena ofc) did so much for themselves and those people on the ship with them and then during the one moment where it was too much and too close and bobby was struggling, there his team was, reaching in a hand and helping him out. and like, on his own bobby is great and on their own the team is great but together?? goddamn, together they are a dream and a family and an unbreakable unit.
#yeah im sorry idk if this made sense but its been kicking at my brain#i just lovw bobby and his growth okay#bobby nash#911#911 abc#firefam#911 spoilers

Epic the musical Catfied: Telemachus concepts and notes
Telemachus‼️‼️‼️‼️
(Im physically dying right now waiting for the wisdom Saga)
anyways here’s some expression notes, fur and body concepts I did!
starting with the first one: I just wanted to do a little test drawing of how Tele’s fur looks in the wind. His fur is thick and round and slightly wavy (Penelope’s fur type) he has a lot of it, and it’s hard to get fully wet (due to some headcanons, though this is up for change)
second one: I wanted to draw his physique! Telemachus is a very spindly, lengthy and quite muscular after training with Athena. He’s quite long in length and tall due to is mother. You may notice that he has a tuck, which means his stomach dips in when it reaches the legs. Cats normally don’t have that and when they do it’s not a good sign, but dogs do! I gave him one because he’s based off of a golden retriever, he’s a cat, yes. But this is art, so there isn’t any limits to what I can add in a design. He also doesn’t have it all of the time, he mostly has it since his body tapers like his fathers, but it changes a bit when he squishes his long body.
third and fourth one: expression notes! I’m actually not done with these, as I’m drawing a whole page of them with notes and details. I won’t say much about how he emotes here? Because that’s the whole point of the drawing, and I do plan to post it when I done! I will say some face notes! For one Telemachus as massive eyes, like- huge orbs. I mentioned it a bit in one of my others posts. His massive eyes were mostly an accident? I was trying to make him look friendly and almost naive, so I made his eyes quite wide and round. Anyways, most of how Telemachus emotes is similar to his father, but when the expressions are more soft and tender he looks more like his mom. he does have his fathers exact smile, very wide and toothy and it sorta squishes up. They sorta have crinkly sparkly smiles is the best I can describe it. Odysseus’s does squish up a bit more and looks more crinkly due his age, but also because his face is shorter then Telemachus!
you may notice some inconsistencies between these, that’s because they were drawn on completely different days and I wasn’t really paying much attention to detail on some? For example his fur doesn’t look all round in the expression ones and he doesn’t exactly have that sharpness of his mouth in the physique concept that’s described in the others.

I'm right there with you. Cheating plot-lines are huge squicks for me. I almost stopped watching the show bc of Hen's cheating in s1, and again when Buck cheated. Part of the disappointment now is that it's a THIRD time they've had a cheating plotline- actually FOURTH since Michael had a secret relationship when he and Athena were still married, even if they hadn't been sleeping together for a while.
So I think part of it for me is "I know this is different, but I don't want to go through this AGAIN."
Either way, I save my own sanity by fast-forwarding through scenes that I don't want to see, and I'll infer/learn things from other people who have watched the show later.
I hate it here so much and, honestly, with how this show usually treats cheating storylines, I don't actually have that much faith that this will get the fallout it should.
With Michael, I understand the handwave - they were separated, for all intents and purposes, and that was discussed afterwards and Athena sees where he's coming from now. And them writing canonically queer characters into cheating arcs that end poorly would be messy, even if they don't necessarily learn anything from it.
Hen... did face consequences for her actions. We got to see the fallout of it with her and Karen, and how they handled it. But I feel like most of that was off screen, and then they forgot about it beyond season one.
Buck's "cheating" storyline was wild, in a way that... was barely cheating? He was on the receiving end of the kiss that only happened once, he kissed back in the moment because he was drunk. Lucy is not the bad guy in this situation either, because she had no idea he was in a relationship and was also drunk. Should Buck have told Taylor sooner? Yes. Was the entire storyline a mess for other reasons too? Also yes.
This... it feels different but the same. No, Eddie hasn't done anything physical with Kim that we know of, but this is the first time, other than Michael whose cheating didn't get much of a storyline beyond cementing the end of his relationship with Athena, that it has been a consistent choice made over and over again. Hen slept with Eva the night of the full moon and then that was over. Buck and Lucy was one drunken night that didn't go beyond a kiss or two. This? Eddie is going after Kim and her attention again and again.
He's showing up at her job. He's taking her out to dinner. He's telling her he's single. And it's really shitty. I just have to cross my fingers and pray this doesn't get brushed off like every other time.
(and I totally understand fast forwarding when you have that ability, definitely do whatever you have to do 💛)

Rooster tries to go after Thena, but Ron’s hand stops him from getting his car keys.
“Give her time, Bradley. It’s been a long week for her.”
Rooster is confused, to say the least. Slider just witnessed her daughter fleeing the house, but he has said or done nothing to him.
“Aren’t you gonna ask what has happened?”
Slider sighs, his hand moving to Rooster’s back and guiding him to the kitchen, where all the family is reunited. There’s not even a trace of surprise on anyone’s faces. Not even deception. They just seem to be concerned.
“You knew,” Rooster whispers, sitting in the closest chair.
“Of course, we knew,” Iceman scolds, giving him a hot mug of chocolate. “Do you think you can make your family believe you’re dating her, out of everyone, with the amount of history you two have together?”
“It was real after a few days…”
Becca puts on her jacket, waiting for Jesse to come from his bedroom with one of his own. “Don’t worry, Bradley. We’ll go with her.”
“Can you tell her that it’s not what it looks like?”
She shakes her head, kneeling when Jesse walks in the kitchen, to help him with his jacket. “I know better than to interfere in something like this. You two need to work it out”
“Uncle Roos.”
“Yes, buddy?”
Jesse runs to the Christmas tree, getting a box wrapped in red wrapping paper with different sized roosters spread all over it. He would laugh if the situation was different. “Open this.”
“It’s not the time, Jesse,” Rooster pushes the box away slightly, but Maverick moves the gift even closer.
“Open it, Bradley.”
He reluctantly opens it, an old Polaroid camera lying inside the box, on top of a brand new album, with all the Polaroids his father had made during his life, perfectly organized and secured inside. He keeps turning pages and pages of old photographs, the last one making him choke on a pained laugh: it’s him, a four-year-old him with Thena in his arms.
There’s a note, he recognizes Thena’s handwriting, with love embedded in every stroke.
It’s time to add your own memories, nugget.
Nick takes the box from his hands before it falls to the floor.
He’s fucked up. Again.
He’s fucked up his second chance with you.
And he doesn’t know if you will give him a third one.
After Becca and Jesse come back, assuring him that Thena is as well as anyone could be given the situation, Rooster gets in the car and drives. He drives for hours, not knowing where, just driving. His heart does know where he’s going, because by the time the sun rises on the horizon, having stopped once to fill the tank at a random gas station in the middle of nowhere, he parks in front of a place he used to visit every week when he was younger.
The cemetery.
Muscle memory seems to have brought him to this place, and it’s also making him stroll in the right direction, finding his parents' grave in just a matter of minutes. He sits down, legs crossed and head down, like a little kid who is being reprimanded. Rooster knows that wherever they are, his parents are mad at him.
“Mom, dad, it’s been a while, isn’t it?”
He sits there for hours. He talks to them, filling them in on the missing parts of his life that they don’t know about. He tells them how he tried to move on from Thena with the first girl that appeared in his life: Mandy. He knew she wasn’t the one. He knew it from the moment he kissed her for the first time.
One of her kisses didn’t warm his heart the same way Thena’s smile did.
But he had lost the right to see those smiles long ago.
So he tried. He tried to move on, but to no avail. She had left an imprint in his soul that followed him everywhere and haunted him with memories of past mistakes. It was like his own personal ghost of the past Christmas.
When Mandy left him, he actually didn’t care. He felt even worse, knowing that another girl had deemed him unworthy and left him to spend the rest of his days in solitude.
He tells them about Thena, how she has become an excellent pilot, a wonderful aunt, and an incredible friend.
And how someone harmed the purest soul he'd ever met just to be like him.
He tells them how he tried to help her in the best way he could. He even tells them how Slider suggested that Thena shouldn’t be alone in a big apartment. He was the one that told him about this arrangement he had suggested to Thena, and how she was excited and scared at the same time to make such an important change in her life and in their relationship.
But he had shattered her last shred of faith in him. He does not, however, explain why. That's something he should tell her when the time comes.
When he has the necessary proof to show her how things aren’t what they look like.
Iceman and Mav find him hours later, asleep next to his parents’ graves. Nobody knows how this will play out; how will Thena forgive this jerk who has only ruined his relationship with her by doing what he thought was best?
Iceman knows that time healed this relationship once.
Only time can heal it again.
Three months and a half later
His car. That’s the first thing you see when you get to the Hard Deck. His Bronco.
You should have known that he would be here. It’s the best of the best, right? Of course he’s here.
You walk inside, looking for Phoenix. You’ve been her wingman for the past three months, and even though she’s an excellent pilot and your best friend, it’s not the same as flying with Bradley.
Nothing is the same without him.
“Thena!”
Phoenix sprints in your direction, placing her hands on your shoulders in an instant. “He’s here.”
“I know. I saw the Bronco outside.” You glance around, spotting the back of his head among the multitude.
“You’re ready for this?” She questions, her eyes never leaving your face, judging if you’re really ready for this.
“Nat, I’ve been going to therapy for months; I’m as ready as I’ll ever be.”
She nods, placing her hand on your back while she walks with you to see the rest.
“Athena Kerner? Oh my god, it’s been a whole minute, isn’t it?” Mickey walks directly in your direction, hugging you tightly.
“What’s with the hair, dude? Didn’t know where to stop?” You joke, making him chuckle.
“Shut up.”
You greet each aviator, saving Rooster for last. He looks different. Mature. Observant. Three months can really change a person.
A deeper dive into his eyes shows you a completely different look. His eyes are gloomy, longing orbs staring at you as if you were the answer to all his prayers.
Yeah, you still love him after all these months.
“Hey, Rooster.”
“Hey, Athena.”
He opens his mouth to say something else, but you’re dragged away from him. Phoenix wants to introduce you to his new backseater.
Or perhaps she just wants to avoid the fight; too many emotions are being held in, unshared, and this can only lead to a fight that would blow up and cause damage to the people involved.
It's been two days since you came to Top Gun, and you haven't shared a word since that quick and short greeting. Mav, who you only saw the next day, knows better than to put you two together in any exercise.
Mav talked with you in private, checking on how you're doing and what you've been doing these past months. He even asked you about your therapy sessions—if they've been helpful and if there's something he needs to know.
It's too soon to see proper results, but at least you don't think of Rooster as a traitor. There had to be a reason—you just never stopped to listen. But at that time, you weren't in the right mindset to do so.
You've missed him. Not the kisses or the compliments, but his presence. You miss looking at your side while flying and seeing him awkwardly waving at you. You've missed knowing that no matter what, you've always had him beside you. You miss his ugly Hawaiian shirts, his cologne, his incessant humming, his bad jokes, and his smile.
He left a void in your life that time couldn’t erase. The emptiness is always present, almost like a part of you. Maybe it's time to stop and put you two out of your misery.
After the mission, of course.
You run through the academy halls, looking for the infirmary. It's been so long that you almost can't remember where it is. Eventually, you find it at the end of a white, eerie hallway. What's the deal with medical wings and creepy environments?
"They're with the doctor now, we can't enter."
It's the first full sentence he has said to you since Christmas. You were so focused on finding the right room that you haven't seen him sitting down, waiting for the doctor to leave.
"Are they okay?" You mutter, not looking at him.
"I didn't see any blood or injury, so yes. I think they're okay."
"Thank God"
You sit in front of him, looking at his boots, the right one bumping up and down.
"How…how are you?" You ask, your words leaving your lips before you can stop them.
"I've been better," he shrugs. You can feel his eyes on you. "I heard you've been going to therapy."
You nod, glancing at his hands—big, calloused hands that you want to touch. "I can be in a changing room now"
"Really? Gosh, I'm so glad you're making such a big progress, grouchy"
You both stop breathing at the same time. It's the stupidest nickname ever, but it held a lot of meaning for you.
"Shit, I'm sorry." He quickly apologizes.
You waved it off. "Old habits never die, I guess."
"It's not even old," he whispers, knowing that you can hear him.
"Roos-"
The door opens, and a blonde nurse is looking at both of you. "Lieutenant Kerner?"
You stand up. "That's me"
"Lieutenant Trace is asking for you."
She enters the room, and you follow her. You can hear Rooster's steps as he walks down the corridor.
Another time, then.
You’re afraid that you won’t be able to talk to him after the mission. This is an extremely dangerous mission; you should have known better than to hold the conversation for so long. Now you can’t stop hearing Maverick’s words, which are repeating over and over in your head.
He wants Rooster to be his wingman.
You have heard people talking. You’ve heard people say that someone wouldn’t make it. Some of you would come back home in a wooden box. That’s if they can find the body.
You’re now standing next to Hangman; he’s watching Rooster talk with Maverick before he gets into his plane.
“You should talk to him before he goes,” he whispers while bumping his arm with yours.
“He’s coming back, Jake,” you say in a convincing tone, not sure if you’re trying to convince yourself or him.
“Yeah but… what if?” Jake insists before leaving you alone with your thoughts.
Two seconds later, your feet are moving toward Rooster. “Hey, Rooster.”
He double-checks that you're talking to him, as if he can't believe you'd waste your breath talking to him. “Is everything okay?”
“Yes, it’s just…” you sigh, raising your eyes and looking at him. “No, nothing’s okay. You’re going up there without me, of course it is not okay!”
Of all the things he expected to hear from you at this moment, snapping at him because he’s flying without you is not one of them. "Amm... well, I didn't choose to be on this dangerous mission, you know."
“Just…just come back, please.”
“Athena, I always-”
“Don’t Athena me. For fuck's sake, Rooster, we've known each other our entire lives; we can have a normal conversation!"
He throws his helmet inside the plane, hands on his hips, and frowns at you. “I’m not the one that runs away every time we’re in front of each other.”
“People keep dragging me away from you!”
“Oh, yeah, blame the rest. As if you want to talk to me” he scoffs, turning around, ending the conversation.
“Would I be here right now if I didn’t want to talk to you?” you state.
“I still don’t know what you want”
You grab him by the collar of his flying suit, pulling him down until his lips crash against yours. “Come back to me, please.”
He doesn’t open his eyes when you pull away, only presses his forehead on yours, whispering over your lips. “I’ll always come back to you, fly girl.”
Tears fall from your eyes, and he kisses them away, covering your face in kisses.
“Go find Coyote and stay with him, please. Don’t be alone”
You nod, hugging him tightly before kissing him one last time and getting in his plane.
“Goose, wherever you are,” you whisper to yourself while walking inside. “Make sure he comes back safely.”

Here’s my initial Spoiler Thoughts for 8x5 in no particular order.
Y’all, I laughed so much in this episode. I think this may be the funniest episode yet for 9-1-1. 😆
Bobby was so cute, he was so excited to play Cap Dracula. Heh, he's also competative with the other houses.
Eddie’s costume was not scary hahaha and he knew it.
“Oh my god, he’s real! He’s real! HE’S REAL!!” vghwsdjbk BUCK. OMFG. What is this like the second or third time Buck has traumatized kids on some holiday??? Sometimes Buck isn’t always uhhh intuitive?? with kids?? hahahaha
Tommy stayed the night to take care of Buck AND stayed on the couch to be close to him. 💕 And! He was indulgent in a positive way of Bucks ramblings and hyper focus on a topic.
Chimney likes scary things, and yet is kinda scared easily. He contains multitudes. =3 Meanwhile Eddie could not be bothered. 😎
I was LIVING for the Buck and Eddie and Tommy dynamic this episode. They’re comedy gold together. I need soooo much more of it please!!
Shirtless Buck. 👀 👀 Although r.i.p. his chest hair and arm hair for that matter.
Hmmm Tommy’s comment near the end at the hospital, something about his amazement about having a support system that Buck has with the 118. Like, he’s already friends with Eddie and he’s Bucks boyfriend, and on good and friendly terms with Bobby, Chimney, and Hen. But I wonder if he’s still feeling jealous about Buck's family, the way he was back in 7x4? He shouldn’t at this point, but we’ll see if this is still a thing later on.
I love Buck so much. He has such a compassionate heart, what with showing compassion towards Billy Boils at the end and visiting his grave, and saying Billy isn’t alone anymore. That was so dang sweet. 🥺
Karen. Just Karen. =)))
Was - was Josh supposed to be dressed as Eddie? Like why the mustache????
I can’t recall the phrasing, but Buck said something about counting on the people in his life and he was looking at Tommy when he said it. 💕💕💕💕
"Even my own BOYFRIEND won't kiss me." Like we know, but ahhhhhhh!!!
Tommy was SUCH a good and supportive boyfriend the entire episode I’m on cloud fucking nine! He may think curses are bullshit just like Eddie, but he was still supportive and there for Buck all the way through. Hello!? He dressed up in a suit to accompany Buck to visit Billy Boils’ graveyard!! This is the kind of partner I want for Buck!!!! He meets Buck where he’s at and shall I say, there for him in sickness and health. 👀
I need to think on it, but I didn’t feel super great in how Athena talked to and generally treated the teenage girls. Were they dismissive in the first classroom scene? Yes. But idk idk… maybe someone else will be able to articulate better my feelings on this. Like good for the girls for wanting to change their “whatever” attitudes, but yeah.
Goddddd the entire Denny scene I was fighting back tears. Great work in the writing, acting, directing, editing, just all aspects of it. 👍
Nurse: Do you need to see a doctor? Buck: No, this is just my face. fcghvjhgfcghh 😆
Denny is the best older brother oh my god? He saved Mara’s life. 🥺🥺🥺
Jee-Yun was 1000% adorable as Toto.
Hm. Hmmm the theme of this episode was missing out on important moments, but also your friends/family’s life. I wonder if Denny’s near death will be the kick in the pants Eddie needs to really start to work on himself, because he needs to, to then work on repairing things with Christopher. I also think at some point Eddie may go down to Texas to either just see Chris in person, because I really think that’s needed at this point, and/or to pick Chris up and bring him home. Very interested to see what Eddie will do next for himself and for Chris too.
Tommy made Buck breakfast!! Literally no other partner has done this for Buck.
I really enjoyed this episode! In true 911 fashion I laughed a lot, then bam! Basically sucker punched with Feelings. I honestly want to rewatch this again because I enjoyed it so much, but also to watch all the Buck/Tommy scenes again too. 😌❤️

Platonic baby making? Is this your Buck mpreg fic?
One of two yes! (Other one is 5b au I could tell more if you would like too)
This fic has a title!!!! "Sometimes it takes a baby"
Basically after delivered Kameron's baby Buck is happy he helped, but he wants to be parent and he's tired to wait for parner. So he looks for donors, but he wants parner to raise a baby, not anonymous donor. And as he and Eddie established they are co-parenting Chris, he goes to his bestie. Eddie agrees and they start some test to make sure everything is ok, then they are ofc make baby (completely platonic sex cause it's just more convenient), then they have positive test and their live changes. Eventually they ofc have to face that it's not platonic at all
I actually have a plot kind of done, just can't sit and write
Old snippet
And thing I wrote yesterday:
It’s a long and heavy emotional, and just really overwhelming month for Buck. First week after Kameron gave birth to her baby he spent time researching: everything about pregnancy he should know, how already he should prepare his body, best clinics to find a donor and prices and how many attempts are needed on average. Everything to make a plan.
Then he went to the clinic to take tests and make sure he was completely healthy to get pregnant. All tests have shown that he is more than healthy and ready for this.
So he moved on to the third and probably the most difficult stage: choosing a donor.
For two weeks, Buck spends the last two weeks constantly selecting the best candidate, each time some even small detail forces him to move on to the next and the next and the next.
He knows that he behaves strangely at work, refuses to meet friends outside of work, and even refused dinner with his boys yesterday in order to come home and spend hours flipping through possible candidates again, feeling like they always lack something.
The eyes are not brown, or the wrong shade of brown, the hair is too dark or light, there is no beauty spot under the eye, but the most important thing that stops Buck is he absolutely doesn’t know these people.
The anonymity of the donation, the fact that his child will never know their second father, he does not like it. He never knew the true love of both parents until he met Bobby and then Athena, and the feeling that envelops his heart every time he sees their care cannot compete with many things.
He wants to know the person from whom he will give birth to a child, but most importantly, he wants his baby to be loved by them. He wants to raise the baby with a partner he trusts. So after closing the next donor file from the clinic, Buck takes his folder with his medical documents, papers from the clinic, his plan of what he will do until he can't work and goes to the person with whom he wants to have a child.
Even if it would be just platonic, Buck wants to be pregnant and raise a child with Eddie. So he’s going to try to do it. Starting with a conversation with Eddie.

'If you go look at the Patreon-exclusive Discord thread I have for this episode—and yeah, I recognize this is an extremely venal opening sentence—there’s a moment where I note that the second pre-released clip, with the “David Tennant spits out ‘the Toymaker’ in the same voice he did ‘the Macra’” moment, was squarely at the twenty minute mark, and where I bet on another big turn at 40. And yes, I knew my spoilers and was expecting bi-generation, but I still just want to start by pointing out the fucking clockwork of it. In fact there’s another turn at roughly 30–that’s where the “return to 2023” beat happens, neatly bisecting the second act. And I think that’s key, in the face of the sheer, stupid cheek of this episode, to understanding why it works so well.
I mean, it’s worth saying it out loud, just so I can get it quote-posted on Tumblr—a pantsless Ncuti Gatwa emerges like Athena, instantly establishes himself as the faggiest Doctor ever to fag, then hits the TARDIS with a giant mallet because “we won the game, you get a prize honey” to split it in two so that David Tennant can be the Doctor forever. You can’t make it up, not least because Russell T Davies already did. It sounds like a joke, and in many ways is—the clue’s in the title and all. It was essentially spoiler-proofed, because anyone who’s the sort of fan that’s pouring over spoilers reads that and is just left wondering how this could possibly work out. And the answer is that it’s being done by a damn maestro of the form who understands how to structure the mother of all throat clears before you go and reset the show for gen alpha TikTok users.
The central trick is, of course, that third act pivot into doing a multi-Doctor story for the anniversary after all, with David Tennant having turned out to be the past Doctor all along. That is, above all else, simply fabulous television, and Davies understands that all you actually have to do is put it on a platter. Everything around it is just a series of decisions about tone—an almost mechanistic execution of scaffolding to ensure that moment is a thunderous drop that sends the dance floor wild instead of landing with a damp thud of authorial perversity. It’s fitting that he has the Toymaker attack through television because at the end of the day this operates through literally nothing save for the fact that Davies understands how to use the medium to engineer what is at the end of the day its original pleasure—its creation of cultural events. At the end of the day, there are rules, and Davies knows how to play.
Much as with Rose, there’s a real temptation to break it down scene by scene, but this is the fast reaction, so let’s work in outline. Like I said, three act structure. Act one uses a cold open to put two premises on the table: Neil Patrick Harris is a weird evil guy and he’s done something to television. Then, on the other side of the credits, it shows Harris again as an evil clown and has him wave goodbye and exit the story. Davies proceeds to enter the UNIT show—a backdoor pilot for an entirely coherent Kate Stewart show complete with whatever the fuck the V’linx is besides an absolutely gorgeous reveal (one of the rules there—if the Doctor just accepts something so will the viewer). We tarry in its pleasures a bit—reintroduce Shirley, reveal/establish Mel, and give everyone a couple good beats, including for the first time bothering to use the fact that you’ve got Jemma Redgreave in the part (her shattered horror at her own actions and apology to Shirley!). And we have the Doctor and Donna catch up with the cold open, untangling the “evil television” thing so it can be explained more slowly to the viewer. Twenty minutes in, he dutifully brings Harris back, catching the other ball thrown by the cold open and moving into the second act.
As I noted, this one’s bifurcated. We do ten minutes of spooky horror set pieces while we reiterate the emotional beats from Wild Blue Yonder (another rule there—explain something twice to the audience in rapid succession and they’ll both understand it and understand it as important), split the Doctor and Donna up, give them each a scene’s worth of puppet horror, then get them back together so the Doctor can confront the Toymaker. This mostly just means monologue set pieces—Davies rolls out a bit of rhythmic poetry and gives it to a good actor. We gesture at the past, then conspicuously throw a ball for the future to catch, thus reminding the audience there is one. And in a puff of smoke we vanish back to 2023, crashing the Toymaker back into the first premise. Ten more minutes of the UNIT show round out the act, anchored by the musical number because hey, you did hire Harris for the part, and then do a monologue duel before the Toymaker kills the Doctor fifteen minutes early to kick off the third act.
And it is here, of course, that Davies makes his move. At first it looks like we’re just going to do a shock pivot to Gatwa, which is already clever—an unexpected use of the rules right as the narrative collapses, like you do. And then we do a record-scratch moment—literally, as Gold cuts the soundtrack—use the Doctor accepting something to sell it (lol at the shrugged reprise of “feel’s different this time”), swirl the lights a different color, strike up the band a second time, and bigenerate (even bigger lol at splitting the triple what across characters).
From here, everything hinges on one bet—the same bet, ultimately, that everything hinges on in the larger cultural context. Davies has given us two hours and forty minutes of nostalgic greatest hits reprises. Now he needs to give us twenty minutes of Gatwa being phenomenal. There’s scaffolding, of course—it’s the mother of all “use the predecessor’s cast to establish the new guy new Doctor stories, and an astonishing amount of the heavy lifting is done by Tennant’s no doubt entirely sincere reinvention of his character as “past Doctor fannishly awe-struck by the future.” But at the end of the day it comes down to Gatwa. And what can you say but that you see why Davies gave him the part.
There’s a trick that’s useful sometimes in analyzing horror films where you figure out the theme by just literally stating the premise—It Follows is about how the stigma of sexuality follows women, Us is about how Black people have suppressed second selves, Tetsuo the Iron Man is about the constant agony of living in an industrialized society. And here it seems relevant to note that Gatwa defeats the Toymaker through sheer physicality. In his underwear. Which is to say that his performance is electric and charismatic—an instantly libidinous Doctor so charming the plot stops mattering, collapsing instead into a queer-off between Gatwa and Harris. Gatwa wins, of course—how could he not with all that beach-off experience from Barbie—and Harris is ushered offstage with ten minutes to go.
All that remains is for Tennant to hand over the keys, which he does with grace, dutifully reprising the Time Lord Victorious in all its burnt out horror so that Gatwa can pull him into a hug and say “I’ve got you” before sending him off to heal himself in a queer platonic relationship with Donna. Gatwa’s the Doctor now. It happened, just about five hours ago. It’s majestic. I can’t wait for more.
* So here’s the most criminal act of burying the lede I’ll ever commit. TARDIS Eruditorum Volume 8 is out. Covering the strange and surreal wilderness years of Paul McGann and the show’s triumphant return in the birth of what I suppose is now the RTD1 era. I’m hitting publish on the ebook edition as we speak, so it might be a bit before it’s live on Amazon—here’s the Smashwords link, which is live now if you want to use that—but the paperback is available for order right now and will arrive before Christmas.
* Also, my Patrons have my Wild Blue Yonder podcast with Eruditorum Press’s very own Jack Graham and Christine Kelley. It features Jack learning, live on the air, what the Timeless Child is. I’ll be doing one on The Giggle with Kate Orman and Jon Blum, and I’m delighted to announce that I’ll be joined by Rachel Stott and Penn Wiggins for The Church on Ruby Road in two weeks. Patrons also get all my ebooks automatically, by the way.
* As for Church on Ruby Road, man, that trailer looks fun. Introducing the Doctor in a club is breathtakingly fresh, and the trailer handles the goblins reveal so well. The whole thing looks completely mad. Can’t wait to hear the single on Monday.
* So, um… Tennant and Tate pretty much have to come back some day, right? Like, Davies has season finales to execute, and he’s not going to leave a gun that big just sitting on the mantlepiece, is he?
* A detail I like is that this mirrors the plot of Journey’s End, right down to the spare Doctor going off and living a quasi-normal life with the companion. There’s a lot of quiet parallels to be had here actually—the fact that Rose was also a toymaker, for instance, or the fact that the Toymaker and the Not-Things largely share motivations. All left entirely to subtext, acting as thematic reverb to give the episode more heft and weight.
* For all that it’s funny to read the lack of Chibnall companions in the Toymaker’s monologue as a dig, the real shade is being playfully thrown at Moffat for his tic of fake-killing companions. Once that’s gone three iterations, Davies structurally has to move on and so captures the Chibnall era in a reprise of the Flux angst from Wild Blue Yonder. No, the Chibnall shade is “I made a jigsaw of your history. Did you like it?”
* Speaking of the rule of three, using “Mavic Chen” to round out a list with the Time War and the Pandorica is god tier.
* All right, all right, I’m obliged to give my Toymaker take. Which is that Davies is very clever retconning the Toymaker as a character who just likes doing absurd caricatures of various nationalities. It doesn’t actually make The Celestial Toymaker any better, but it’s enough to salvage the character for a reprise.
* The more interesting reprise to my mind is Mel. We knew she was coming back for Gatwa, so her appearance here is more a moment of fleeting surprise, but it’s yet another example of Davies’s cool-eyed savviness—Bonnie Langford is by an order of magnitude the highest profile actor to serve as a classic series companion, and as with Jemma Redgrave Davies doesn’t have to do much more than actually give her stuff to do. The callback to her nonexistent debut story to establish her as an orphan is such a deft bit of characterization, and an intriguing parallel to Ruby, and for that matter the Timeless Child, whether or not that’s ever picked up on explicity.
* Which, it has to be said, gives at least some setup justification for bigeneration, if only because it justifies a slightly more “eh fuck it” take on regeneration in general. I gather Davies goes further in this direction on the commentary, which I’ll catch before I do the podcast.
* The fact that the Toymaker claims to have killed God is given entertaining credibility by trapping the Guardians in voodoo dolls and the Master in a gold tooth. Which, love the “cultist hand saves the Master” reprise.
* The invocation of the Gods of Ragnarok makes the absence of Fenric conspicuous. Think I’ll place a long shot bet on him as the big bad for Gatwa’s first season.
* By far the best bit of continuity fetishism, however, is the Alex Jones remake of Trinity Wells.
* Also if you complain that I said Gatwa was pantsless because he was properly just trouserless I will fire you into the sun.
* Let’s close this out with a note on Fourteen, even if we’re probably not saying goodbye to him. First of all, I love him accepting regeneration calmly—“it’s time” instead of “I don’t want to go,” and a cavalier “allons-y” to match Whittaker’s “tag you’re it.” But more to the point, I love the Doctor relaxing into found family, building force fields for his beloved moles, happier than he’s ever been in his life. Tennant commented that he and Davies largely decided to approach the task of how to handle the fact that this version of Tennant’s Doctor is older by just assuming that the fact that they were both older would come through. And I think there’s nowhere that’s clearer than Davies having the Doctor find peace in a distinctly queer shape of love.

Watched the new Knights of the Zodiac movie
That's right, for Mother's Day, I decided I was going to watch the live action version of my favorite series. Before I begin, let me state my feelings as well as the fact that because this is an adaptation, I won't spoil the movie. First off, I was in the "nervous" camp and my expectations were low.
However, once it started, in present time, I was just blown away.
When they said they got the people who choreographed the Shang Chi film, they were right. It's brutal and well done, especially the opening one. A lot of people compared this movie to Mortal Kombat (the first one) and that's a good way to put it. It has that touch of campy dialogue but it borderlines amusing without being stupid, and sometimes clever. A good example is that everyone keeps telling Seiya to "stop dancing", which is a nice callback to how the characters move in Things are very well adapted. One nice touch is that anytime a Saint runs fast, you see them dig their heels before shooting like a bullet. Speaking of bullet, it does adapt well on the idea of how a Saint can do against modern warfare in a show don't tell display.
First scene with the black Saints, you look at them like their an army of Terminators and they're unstoppable despite being unarmed. Lots of people die and it's great.
I think what is great about this movie, is that you can actually enjoy it even as an adult. This is because the movie does the one thing that the anime didn't and that is bring out the ethical dilemma about being a Saint. I also like how they portrayed Athena in this because unlike the Netflix adaptation where people are tricked into thinking Athena could be evil, it visually shows the two sides of Athena. If you weren't a Saint Seiya fan, you would believe by the end that Athena could be a force for evil or good.
Oh and third act, were there tears from the actors? Yes! Lots of lots of people cry, it's amazing. Lots of buildings get wrecked due to the power of the Saints and it's amazing.
I loved the actors and by the end, I seriously hope there is a sequel.
I have a feeling that it may not do great in the theaters because we all have live action anime fears, but I have a good hunch that once this hits streaming, I think it will be a cult classic. So please buy a ticket, support this film!

Hi there, its Athena for Sunday Ask-A-Thon week 2 at @ask-a-thon: Has there ever been an idea that you've wanted to write but never got the chance to because you feel like you wouldnt do it justice or you've been too busy with other wips?
Hey Athena! Amazing iniative with this. I didn't see you even created a blog but that's great. You're doing amazing, sweetie.
Yes and no, on this question. I've never felt I wouldn't do something justice. It's not that I think I'm the best author to ever exist (no such thing) but I don't have that mindset naturally. If it's not good, well, then I drop the idea.
I've had ideas I've written a rough outline for and go "ah, well, no, this won't do". It can be because I'm not well versed in the genre so it falls flat, or it was just a fun outline but I don't want to write a draft, and many more reasons.
It won't be great the first time, and to expect greatness is to set up myself for failure. The first time I baked meringue they were not great. They weren't great the second or third time either and I can't even remember how many times I've done it now, but they're great and I'm proud of my skill!
My FenHawke works in the DA fandom isn't that great because it was after I wrote those that I joined a Discord group of writers that helped me with English language rules. My first Steddie work isn't all that great either, and I dropped the series mostly because I felt that it sucked so bad I didn't even want to poke it with a stick.
Many ideas have vanished into the darkness because I've been busy with other wips, but that's mostly fanfic because I always get ideas like "What if Steve was the dangerous hitman and Eddie the FBI agent going undercover to frame him", or "What if Eddie was a stripper", "What if Eddie was trans", and I have to chose which wips to pour my energy into.

starfalled ☀️ julien enjolras :
"And yet, still so little has changed,” son of the Revolution mumbles quietly. And it’s not all true — not as black and white as he makes it. Nearly 200 years ago, he had not thought of what it would mean to be in love. He never imagined Courfeyrac sprawled like a cat over them both, with Kassandra’s fingers stroking through his hair as their third lingers in a world of wine-induced dreams. He’d wondered even then how he could sleep through it all, when there’s so much to be done. And in the end he’d lost them both.
Some days, it feels as though it was for nothing. On the darkest days, he wonders if it’s still for nothing, what they’re doing. And then he walks outside and sees rainbows, sees the glitter that covers every godforsaken surface of their flat. What he’d stood for all those years ago was not exactly this. But it hadn’t exactly not been this either. Each night, the window is open, and he can hear the people in the streets shouting, singing. Born this Way. Yes. Yes.
There have been so many bad things that have happened since a group of students had tried to change the world. There are so many bad things happening now, while they try to do it again. But their numbers are growing. Love for the people is growing. And perhaps, he thinks, it was always about people, more than the idea of a country. About all people. About equality that they still haven’t reached, but that more are reaching toward. He wants to lift their voices up. And he would die again to see the world be reborn in equality, in tolerance. But he thinks, perhaps he’d rather not, if it can be avoided. Each day is a new battle that he will proudly fight. But each night...brings him closer to home. He retracts. “Everything has changed. But there’s still so much to be done. You’ll stay with me this time? Don’t leave so soon.”
athena hears what the blond-haired revolutionist says as she sits at a sofa booth with him at the dilapidated cafe musain once radiant with light and laughter. there was an eerie haunting misting the place, they hearing distantly of the wind, and perhaps… a man’s voice? empty chairs at empty tables, where my friends are dead and I sit here… where I live and you are gone.
they had been reincarnated from the final battle, yet with timeline differing to when marius sung his song. the blood 🩸 pooling like red paint ( crude and predative, athena mused ) had ran a river in the ashen asphalt ;; they theorising why and when of this phenomenon.
courfeyrac was spinning a pistol in his hands casually, he being cheerful among the students. his friend enjolras had called him a kitten 🐈⬛ due to this.
the barricade comprised of mattresses, chairs, tables and doors was just outside, she seeing it through the dusty window. she is leaning her hand on her cheek ( feeling the warm sleeve of her jumper ).
as she looks and mutters under her breath on the interesting barricade once more, enj hears and says, ‘ the wheels of the wheelbarrow ; the civilian who bravely joined our crusade, jean valjean, donated this to our cause, he divulging it was from saving his fellow man from being crushed to death ‘ ( he then nods in fervent affirmation ).
she remembered she had met him while walking in the streets of paris ; he querying if she was lost perhaps due to the haunted look in her eyes. he had been holding a cup of coffee, coffee ☕️ which the grains were darkening brown, near black ( as he wanted to stay awake ).
she had recognised him to be the man talking about revolution speaking passionately about the freedom of the people of paris. she was quieter than the other students, and had started training to be a soldier, reminding her of her time with the vikings. she nods when he asks her if she would stay. ‘ yes, I’ll stay. ‘ as she found a family here.

𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐖𝐢𝐟𝐞 『Adam x Reader』
Summary: Reader was Adam's first wife before he married Eve.
Warning: Angst, a little fluff, death, deities are really cruel
15,8k
Author's note: Requests for Genshin have not been forgotten! I'm working on it BUT I just finished season one of Record of Ragnarok and needed to write about Adam. I think he deserves more writing about him...he's the best husband and father Earth could have!
"A demoness? A succubus? No! A human whose legends turn her into a fearsome ruler of the underworld! She rules an entire army with an iron fist! Made of the clay of creation, she is made in the image of the gods! N°00000000002 : Lilith!" shouted Heimdall to announce your entrance.
You have been chosen to save humanity. The creation of Adam and Eve. You don't know why Brunhilde trusts you to save the humans. What could she possibly have been thinking in choosing you? Were you the best choice for this? Protecting the beings conceived by your ex-husband and his new wife. Unlike your ex-lover, you refuse to walk around naked. Your body is far too precious to be revealed to the world. You stand in the middle of the arena waiting patiently for Heimdall to finish presenting your opponent.
Your eyes rest on your army led by your only son. The only being you have ever given birth to. The third human born. A slight smile appeared on your lips. Your son resembled his father, and you found that particularly funny. You couldn't help but think that Adam's genes were particularly strong. But the way your son stood proudly at the head of your army...he took that from you. Even if you were to perish in this fight, you know that your army and your son will come through.
Your right hand will be around the shaft of your spear. You hear the mocking laughter of the gods, announcing your crushing defeat. You hear the hesitant whispers of humans about your place among the fighters of humanity. You are known in human legends to be a danger to pregnant women and newborns. To be honest with yourself, you hate this legends. You are a mother, how can humans think that you would harm a woman and her child? Your eyes drop slightly to the floor and your lips pucker into an unpleasant pout. After a few seconds, your face frees itself of all displays of emotion and your hand rises to challenge Heimdall.
"Yes, Lilith?" asks the god who has the role of announcer.
"I will not fight under that name," you announce.
"Huh?" he blurts out in surprise.
"I will not fight under the name of the monster the humans wanted to make me," you reply immediately.
"So...what do you want to be called?"
Lying in a meadow, you enjoy the sun and the soft breeze on your bare skin. Rabbits and foxes quickly surround you to enjoy the comfort with you. Everything is perfect in the Garden of Eden. A shadow covers your face, forcing you to open your eyes to discover the obstacle between you and the sun. It is a pleasant surprise when you discover your husband's welcoming smile, his blonde locks framing his face. Adam sits down beside you, placing his fruit basket between his legs. He pulls out a bunch of grapes and takes one between his long fingers. He then brings the fruit to your lips to let you savour the sweet, pleasant taste of the fruit. A sigh of contentment crosses your lips. Your husband's smile widens as he notices your relaxed state.
"You have grape juice running down your chin, Lilith," Adam informs you.
Your eyelids droop slightly as your eyes express your displeasure. Adam only lets a laugh emit from his throat as he leans forward to lick the grape juice off. Your hand gently but firmly pushes him away. You want him to understand that his gestures of affection will not be tolerated again until he realises his mistake. And you know perfectly well that he has understood what he has done.
"Stop teasing me," you say, a frown appearing on your face.
"I like to see your eyebrows furrow. You look like that kitten that was trying to scare us." replies Adam, running his hand over your hip stroking it in lazy circles, as if to soothe you.
"But unlike that kitten, I can bite," you reply sharply.
"I know you can..." he hums in the hollow of your ear. "Y/N."
This memory was a moment of pure happiness that you experienced in the Garden of Eden before you were forced into exile. This name you chose with Adam was the beginning of your independence from the gods. You had never accepted the principle of being subject to a man and Adam always supported you in this choice. But the gods did not like this and in response you abandoned the name they gave you at your creation. Perhaps this is why Eve was created from Adam's rib? To prevent her from becoming like you.
"Y/N. Call me that," you proudly announce.
The gods of your creation frown but do not protest. They hope that you will perish against one of their own and that your soul will disintegrate in space and time.
Adam had slipped out of the room where he was locked up. When he learned of your presence here, he did not expect you to fight for the humans. The children he had with another woman. He snuck into the bleachers to get a better look at your figure. A sense of nostalgia stirs in his heart as he sees that you haven't changed in all this time. You stand with dignity, your weapon in hand. You are strong and independent, you have become the woman you always dreamed of. A woman you could not have become if you were in his company because...everyone wants his wife to be submissive to him.
Adam does not regret his married life with Eve, he enjoys it too. But he has enjoyed the life he has lived with you. He believes in your victory. He wants you to win. He does not want to witness your complete disappearance from the universe without any chance of reincarnation. Your first separation has already split his heart in two, Adam does not want to experience this intense pain a second time.
You swing your divine spear with one hand, deflecting your opponent's first blow. The strength in this attack was not worthy of a god, was he testing your abilities? Your eyes meet. The victorious and arrogant smile on the god's face already irritates you. He underestimated you because you are a human AND a woman. His leg comes to sweep over yours but you manage to dodge by gaining height. You position your spear, blade towards the ground to pierce his skull. The god quickly dodges in a backward leap, leaving you to land on the ground, puncturing the concrete floor which cracks under the impact.
Your exchange of blows lasts for a while. Or should we say: the god throws blows at you that you deflect with your spear. But suddenly, his paterne changes. The force that the god uses becomes more powerful. His leg comes to meet your stomach. You prevent the blow from reaching your skin by placing your spear between your stomach and his leg. Unfortunately, the attack sends you flying a few metres away. You manage to land with difficulty and before you can regain a stable footing, the god launches himself at you. You are forced to fall to the side in a roll to narrowly dodge the punch. Your cheek begins to bleed.
"Mother!" your distraught son shouts.
"Commander! Get up!" your soldiers shout to encourage you.
You let out a breath, your muscles relax, making your movements more fluid and lively. Your eyes fall on the figure of your opponent. The aura around you changes completely, causing the small smile on the god's face to disappear. Your hands grip the spear and your feet anchor themselves to the ground to give you a good foothold.
"Answer my question before we resume this fight. Why are you fighting for the humans?" the god asks.
"Do I need a reason to fight? The gods have forced me to be submissive and men have clothed me in a veil of monstrous lies. It's like choosing between the plague and cholera," you explain. "But I had to choose and I chose my ex-husband's children.
The humans observing the exchange begin to stir, either out of guilt or because they were moved by your story. Humans get teary-eyed easily, you think. But you can't help but find this side of them very touching. Perhaps it was a good thing that Eve was the Mother of humanity?
"Humans have the will to survive and a strength that allows them to constantly evolve. This is a strength that the gods can never possess," you say with contempt.
Your hatred for the gods is much stronger than your hatred for humans. On your words, the fight resumes. You manage to follow your opponent's movements. Like Adam, you were forged from clay in the image of the gods. You are Adam's equal, you have the same ability as him to copy the techniques you see. Your movements remind the gods of Athena. You had copied the movements of this goddess a long time ago.
Your body and that of your opponent are covered in blood. You are bleeding from the wounds inflicted on you, but you were able to avenge yourself by seriously injuring your opponent as well.
Adam clenches his lips into a thin line, his fingernails digging into the palms of his hands but he still believes in your victory. You must win. You can't give him up a second time...you can't.
"They've created a second wife for you," you scream indignantly.
"You're the only one for me," Adam admits in an attempt to calm your nerves. He can't bear to see you cry.
"It's only a matter of time before the gods kick me out of the Garden of Eden! I don't understand their desire to have me submit to male authority! Do goddesses submit to male deities?" you growl in frustration. The anger was so strong that you can't hold back the tears.
"If they chase you away then I'll go with you," Adam announces, interlacing your fingers together.
A soft warmth spreads through your chest as a gasp of surprise passes through your lips. A slight blush marks your cheeks as you look away from your husband. You can't help but enjoy the tender feeling. Adam wraps his muscular arms around you in a soothing embrace. His scent calms your restless nerves.
"Spend the night with me tonight," you whisper.
"We always sleep together," he says, tilting his head to the side, not understanding the meaning of your words.
"Adam..." you gasp shyly. It almost sounded like a soft moan.
His blue eyes widen slightly as the implied request is processed by his brain. A teasing smile spreads across his face as he leans in to your blushing ear to whisper provocative words.
That was the last evening you spent in his company before the gods kidnapped you and threw you away from the Garden of Eden. You never tried to return to that place, you knew it wasn't possible. So you did your best to survive. You were able to thrive and enjoy your newfound independence.
That night Adam gave you a gift, your son: Eurynome. A child identical to his father, who grew up with you as his only role model. He has become an independent young man capable of leading an army. But he remains a child... a child afraid to be alone without the reassuring presence of his mother.
It is impossible to understand the pain of losing a parent when you have not experienced it. No one could understand a tenth of the pain of Eurynome's scream as the god's fist plunges into your chest.
Your eyes crinkle under the sudden fatigue your body feels. Your right hand struggles to hold the spear. The humans weep in despair as the gods celebrate the downfall of Lilith, the woman who did not obey divine orders.
Nausea takes hold of Adam's body. All that blood, your blood spilling on the floor. Will you die? Disappear forever...you don't even know that he witnessed your fight. You will never know that he missed you terribly. You will never know that he wanted to feel your warmth in his arms again and whisper those three words to you.
Your eyes linger on your son's tear-streaked face. A peaceful smile appears on your lips. A fire of determination shines in your eyes. Your hand tightens around the spear and you slice the god's jugular before collapsing to your knees. If you must die...then you will prevent the gods from achieving a victory as well.
Your eyes slowly close and your hearing becomes increasingly blurred. The voices are now just an indistinguishable din.
Adam could only watch as your body and the god's dematerialize into a smoke of green glitter. His legs move towards the battlefield as if trying to retrieve the flakes that represent your soul dissolving into space. But your son's crying snaps him out of his trance. His eyes fall on a miniature version of himself.
Cain and Abel have some characteristics of their father but Eurynome is a carbon copy of Adam and you would have to be blind not to notice. Adam walks over to your son and takes him in his arms, sharing his pain. Adam fully understands the tug of war that Eurynome feels.
That night Adam gave you a gift, your son. Today, this gift will show the world that you existed. That you are not like your legends.
You are an independent woman, a mother and Adam's wife.
"Adam," you call to your husband, who is perched on a tree branch.
"Yes?" he hums, keeping his eyes closed.
"Don't you think I'm strange?" you finally question him. "Do you think I owe you obedience too?
Silence passes between the two of you. A pain assails your heart at this lack of response and you instantly regret having asked him the question. The disappointment was much stronger than you had thought. You look up abruptly when you hear a thud only a few feet away. Adam had just jumped from his branch. His back was to you. He turns towards you, his face devoid of emotion. He encircles your cheeks with his warm palms. His piercing blue eyes almost seem to probe your soul and you struggle to hold his gaze. But your desire to know the answer prevents you from looking away.
"We are husband and wife, I accept you as you are. Don't change for the world, for anyone," Adam says with conviction.
"So...you love me like this?" you ask aloud, wanting to sound confident.
Adam looks at you slightly surprised at this sudden question. He hums softly before leaning in to kiss your forehead. The smile he flashes makes your heart race.
"I love you," he says.
"I love you too..." you admit after a few moments.

begging for footnotes in the story of your life
Ana learns a lot about Buck while she’s dating Eddie, like how Buck’s the one who should be dating him.
Ana learns about Buck in stages.
First from Christopher, when she was his teacher, and he would mention his Buck or draw Buck in family pictures.
The second from the school nurse telling her that Christopher is being signed out to go home and she sees his name on Chris’ school forms.
The third is from Eddie, when he brings him up as a work colleague even though she suspects it’s more than that.
She just doesn’t realize how much more until the first time she sees the inside of Eddie’s house.
His house is homey, much cozier than she’d expect for a single dad who’s a first responder. She says as much and he chuckles.
“Some of this I did, but most was my Abuela.”
Ana nods and walks over to the mantle to look at the photos.
She sees a picture of a younger Christopher sitting in a high chair between Eddie and a woman who she assumes is Shannon.
“Shannon?” She asks quietly.
“Yeah. Chris, uhh, wanted to put some up.”
Ana nods and continues looking. There’s some more of Eddie and Chris, people she assumes are Eddie’s parents and his Abuela, and then there’s Buck.
Or well, she thinks it’s Buck, with how Chris has always described him. She notices one photo in particular that causes her to pause.
“Is that?”
Eddie reaches up and grabs the back of his neck, almost like he’s nervous.
“Uh, yeah. Buck built him a skateboard, we tried it out at the park.”
So, Buck built Chris a skateboard after Ana wrongly said that Chris should know his limitations.
“I’m sorry for saying what I said.”
“It’s fine, Ana.”
“It’s not.”
Eddie shrugs and Ana considers bringing it up again but she chooses not to, instead focusing on a Christmas photo that was taken at the station; Eddie, Chris, and Buck in the back smiling.
Eddie follows her eye movement and he smiles. “Buck and Athena set that up. We were on shift on Christmas and he surprised us with our families and dinner.”
“That was sweet.” Ana feels a little out of her depth here. She doesn’t think she’s ever seen this soft look on Eddie’s face before but she doesn’t want to ruin the moment.
“It was, yeah.”
They finish going through the photos, as Ana learns more about Eddie’s life.
He makes them dinner, although he sticks a pan of lasagna in the oven so she doesn’t know how much he actually cooked.
They’re about to sit on the couch, when he stops and says he’s going to grab something from his room. She follows him and notices for the first time that his room is a different sort of style than the rest of the house.
It’s all dark blues and grays with some stylish lamps and photographs on the walls.
She almost wishes she didn’t know about Buck now.
“I like your room,” She comments while he grabs a blanket from the bed. It’s a soft black velvet.
“Oh, thanks. This was mostly Buck. My room apparently looked like a boring hotel room so he’s been giving me some of his stuff.”
“That’s?”
“Nice, right?”
No. She was going to say weird. But she nods instead.
“The photo?” Ana asks as she walks closer to the print on the wall. It’s the typical California style photo, the palm tree lined street, but it’s in black and white, tasteful, where they’re usually cheesy.
“Oh, uh, Buck took that. Had it framed for my birthday last year. Said it can remind me of why I moved us here, for a fresh start.”
“Huh.” Ana can tell it’s important to him, can tell that he loves the photo and the sentiment behind it. What she can’t tell is if he loves the photo more or the person who took it.
“C’mon, let’s go watch the movie.” Eddie grabs her hand and she forgets about the room and Buck, at least for the night.
~~~
Ana meets Buck in stages.
She thought she’d meet him at school, when he came to pick up Christopher, or at the school play, where Christopher was the main character, or at the science fair, or bake sale. All events she knows Buck was there for.
But, she never does. Whether it’s by luck or design, she doesn’t know. But she wishes she had, because she meets Buck, awkwardly, while on a date with Eddie.
The one night Buck isn’t babysitting Christopher, Eddie’s Abuela watching him after Chris and Eddie’s talk, they run into Buck.
So, she meets Buck outside of an ice cream shop.
“Buck.” Eddie freezes beside her and she sees a tall man, taller than she thought with the pictures, with a cone halfway to his mouth. Buck lets out a sheepish smile and shrugs.
That’s when Ana notices the woman next to Buck, she’s pretty, her red hair is gorgeous, and Ana thinks she looks familiar.
“Taylor,” Eddie says clipped, in a voice she hasn’t heard from him since the skateboard incident.
“Eddie,” The woman, Taylor, says just as clipped.
Ana wonders what she missed.
“What are you two doing here?” Buck asks and then he holds out his non sticky hand. “Sorry, Eddie’s rude, I’m Buck. You must be Ana.”
She nods and looks between Buck and Eddie who are giving each other eyes. “Yes, hi, it’s nice to finally meet you.”
“You, too.” Buck looks at Eddie and realizes no one is going to say anything else so he looks back to Ana.
“Would you two like to join us?” Ana asks out of desperation and Eddie looks at her incredulously.
Buck looks at Taylor and she nudges him back. “We’d love to, but I have to get back to the station, I’m on nights right now. Next time? Buck and Eddie can schedule something.”
“Sure, bye Eddie. Ana.” Buck nods his head and she smiles at him. As they leave she can hear Taylor and Buck whispering to each other.
That was awkward Buckley.”
“It’s not my fault he didn’t say anything…” Buck trails off and then they’re too far away to hear anything else.
Ana turns back to Eddie. “They seem like a cute couple.”
“Huh?”
“Buck and Taylor? You didn’t tell me he has a girlfriend.”
“He doesn’t,” Eddie says sharply. “They’re friends.”
“Oh, could’ve fooled me.”
“Why do you say that?” Eddie asks, looking at her for the first time since they ran into Buck.
“They seem close.” Ana shrugs. She doesn’t know why she has to explain anything, or why it would matter if Buck’s dating someone.
“They, uhh, dated a couple years ago, but I think they’re friends now.” Eddie finally manages.
“Ohh. Okay. Friends with benefits. I get it.”
Eddie chokes on nothing and he looks a little green.
“Edmundo, are you okay?”
“Yeah, lets get that ice cream.”
She nods and follows him into the ice cream shop, not surprised in the slightest when he orders the same flavor Buck was eating.
~~~
The second time she meets Buck is at a party in his loft. Everyone is vaccinated and Buck wanted to have everyone over before his sister, Maddie, has her baby.
Eddie introduces her to everyone; Bobby and Athena, Hen and Karen, Michael and David, Chimney and Maddie, Albert, and then Taylor.
“It’s good to see you again,” Ana says kindly as Eddie goes into the kitchen to grab them drinks. The loft is nice, modern, and looking suspiciously like Eddie’s bedroom, but she keeps that to herself.
“Hey, not until after dinner. You’re worse than Christopher!”
Ana looks over as Buck smacks Eddie’s hand with a towel as he tries to sneak cookies and Ana laughs at their antics, although no one else even so much as blinks their way.
Taylor follows her line of sight and smiles. “Oh, they’re like that. You’ll get used to it.”
Before Ana can respond she sees Taylor slide up to Buck and helps him with setting up the rest of the food.
Eddie comes back over to her with a glass of wine and Ana smiles even as she notices Eddie’s face is pinched.
Before Ana can grab it she spills some on her dress and Eddie curses.
“Shit, sorry Ana.”
“It’s okay. I’ll just grab a towel.”
“Buck, I’m taking her upstairs,” Eddie shouts to Buck and he looks over and nods.
Eddie guides her up the stairs and when she sees Buck’s bedroom, she pauses. It’s almost identical to Eddie’s in style and color. He even has the same photo hanging up on the wall. She says as much and Eddie smiles.
“Oh yeah, he came to LA for similar reasons so he had one made for his place.”
“Huh.”
“There should be Shout Wipes in the bathroom. Medicine cabinet.” Eddie points to the bathroom as he sits down on Buck’s bed like he has every right to. He probably does.
“Thanks. I’ll be just a minute.”
Ana closes the door and finds a towel, wetting the stain first and then finding the wipes. As she cleans, she notices the meds in the bathroom.
She knows she shouldn’t snoop but seeing Chris’ name on one of the bottles surprises her. It looks like Buck keeps extra medicine here for backup. She notices painkillers and Eddie’s favorite brand of shaving cream.
Feeling like she’s crossed some sort of boundary she closes the medicine cabinet and is about to head back out when she hears voices from the room.
“You spill on yourself, too?” Eddie jokes and Buck groans.
“Albert ran right into me with the dip.”
“Sucks.”
“Seriously. I can’t wait til he leaves.”
“He could go back home, you know,” Eddie says gently as Ana hears what is likely a shirt being thrown in a hamper.
“I’m not gonna do that to Maddie.” Buck moves around and then asks. “Which one? Red or blue?”
“Blue, definitely,” Eddie responds and Ana can’t see them but she has to agree, whatever blue shirt Buck puts on will bring out his eyes.
“Good, I think this red shirt is actually yours.”
Eddie laughs and Ana pauses a moment because she’s never heard that laugh before. Part fond, part exasperated. She wonders why he laughs like that with Buck.
“Makes sense.”
“Okay, come down when you’re done, I can’t have Albert setting my kitchen on fire.”
Ana can hear Buck heading down the stairs so she leaves the bathroom. Eddie stands to come closer and she accidentally blurts out what she’s thinking.
“You have clothes here?”
“Huh? Oh, well I did live here for a couple of months, but with the firehouse and everything we all probably have each other’s clothes.”
Eddie says it so nonchalantly that Ana can’t even respond as he heads towards the stairs. He turns to look at her.
“Coming?”
“Yeah, sorry.” She doesn’t think it’s nonchalant at all.
~~~
Ana meets Evan all at once.
It’s her first night staying over at Eddie’s, with Christopher at Hen’s house for a sleepover of his own.
She isn’t sure what wakes her up until she hears Eddie’s sleep rough voice.
“Evan?”
Who’s Evan?
“Yeah, no, we’ll be there.” Eddie pauses as he sits up. “Don’t worry about it, I wouldn’t miss it.”
Eddie hangs up and looks at her sheepishly.
“Is everything okay?” She asks as she sits up as well.
“Yeah, Maddie’s gone into labor, so I was gonna head to the hospital.”
Huh? Eddie isn’t family, why is he going to the hospital?
“Okay. Let’s go,” Ana says instead of asking that question.
“Are you sure? I can drop you off first.”
“No, it’s fine, we can go.”
Plus this is a way for her to assert herself as an important person in Eddie’s life.
“Thanks,” Eddie say, relieved, as he starts getting dressed.
Ana follows suit and when they finally head to the hospital Eddie’s a bundle of nerves.
“She’ll be okay,” Ana says quietly as she places a hand on his leg. He nods but he doesn’t relax.
He doesn’t relax, that is, until he sees Buck in the waiting room.
“Evan,” Eddie breathes out as they hug. Ana’s momentarily shocked, because Eddie isn’t overly affectionate with anyone other than Christopher, but he hugs Buck like it’s a normal thing.
Both of them calm down when they hug and then it hits her that Eddie called Buck ‘Evan’. She’s never heard someone call him that, but it must be his first name.
She wonders when Eddie got that privilege.
She feels like she’s intruding so she taps Eddie’s shoulder and he turns toward her.
“I’m gonna grab coffee, you two want anything?”
Buck smiles at her but Eddie answers her.
“Black with cream for me, sugar and cream for Buck.”
“Okay.” Ana walks away and turns around just to see Eddie and Buck sitting down and bringing their foreheads together, almost unconsciously.
“Oh, Ana, hey.”
Ana turns and sees Chimney.
“Chimney, hi. How’s Maddie?”
“She’s good. I’m grabbing her water. And waiting for Albert to get here. I take it you came with Eddie?”
“Yeah. Is the whole station coming?” Ana asks even though she thinks she knows the answer.
“No. Only family. Hen and Bobby said they’d stop by after she’s born,” Chimney responds and then he’s quickly turning back towards the rooms. “Tell Albert when you see him that he comes in second since he’s late.”
“Sure,” Ana says quietly as she takes the coffee back to Buck and Eddie. After they grab theirs she sits next to Eddie and sees what they’re looking at on Eddie’s phone.
“Is that Christopher?” She asks and Eddie nods.
“Yeah, I got so many photos of him when he was this age,” Eddie speaks quietly and Ana realizes that he got sent photos of Christopher because this must’ve been when he was deployed with the Army. He doesn’t talk about it much but she can tell Buck knows because Buck squeezes Eddie’s knee in support.
The biggest shocker, though, is when Eddie grabs Buck’s hand and squeezes back.
She once again feels like she’s intruding on something private, something theirs, and she doesn’t know what to do.
Luckily she doesn’t have to think too much because Albert comes running in and he and Buck start arguing over who’s going to go in first, who’s going to be the better uncle.
“Should we?” Ana gestures to them and Eddie shakes his head.
“Nah, they’re fine. This is fun for them.”
Ana nods and sits back to drink her coffee. Before she knows it, Chimney’s back in the waiting room telling them that Maddie and baby are fine and that they can all come meet her.
Buck and Eddie jump up and Ana trails behind with Albert.
“You don’t want to run in there?” She asks Albert.
“Oh I do, but I don’t want to overwhelm Maddie.”
Ana nods and keeps walking towards the room. When she gets there what she sees stops her in her tracks.
Buck is holding his niece and Eddie, well, Eddie is staring at him with so much love, adoration, and abject want that Ana feels like she’s intruding.
Eddie turns to her and holds out his phone. “Can you take a picture? I promised Chis I would show him before he meets her.”
“Sure,” Ana says like she’s underwater. Eddie’s lockscreen, a picture of Buck and Chris, barely registers.
She hears the baby's name, Kylee Danielle, after her uncles, and watches as Buck tears up, and Eddie grabs the back of his neck.
She then watches Buck pass Kylee to Eddie, and if she wasn’t so shocked she would notice the way Buck was watching him, the way Maddie was watching her, and the way Albert was videotaping everything.
She would notice that Eddie looked damn good holding a baby.
If she didn’t feel like she was intruding on a private family moment.
She doesn’t belong here. She doesn’t belong with Eddie.
She looks toward Maddie and Chimney, Maddie has kind but sad eyes looking at her and Ana knows now that she’s not who Eddie is meant to be with.
“Congratulations,” Ana says quietly. “Eddie, I’m gonna go.”
“You don’t have to go,” Eddie says as he hands Kylee to Albert.
“I do. It’s okay, I’ll call you.”
It shouldn’t surprise her when he nods and turns back to the others but it does.
She nods to Maddie and Chimney and then to Buck, who’s looking at her with an odd expression on his face.
“It was nice to see you again, Evan,” Ana says and she hears his breath catch.
She calls an Uber, waits outside for it, and when she finally gets home, she realizes she took some photos on her phone, too.
Ana looks at them, sees Eddie and Buck, looking like they belong together, and sends them to Eddie with the text ‘you have a beautiful family.’
~~~
Ana learns about Edmundo and Evan Buckley-Diaz when she gets a change of name form for one Christopher Buckley-Diaz.
Along with the name form is an official form of guardianship for Buck, declaring him Christopher’s other father.
~~~
Years later Ana learns about Ellie Buckley-Diaz when her fathers drop her off for her first day of kindergarten.
“Eddie. Buck. Hi,” Ana greets them as they come out of the front office, paperwork in hand and an excited five year old bouncing on her toes.
“Ana,” Eddie says warmly and Buck smiles. “Principal now?”
“Yeah, for a couple of years.”
“Congrats.” Eddie smiles and then turns to his daughter who pulls on his shirt sleeve.
“Daddy, I want to see my classroom.”
“I’ll take you,” Buck responds and gives Ana a smile. He squeezes Eddie’s shoulder once and then takes Ellie’s hand.
“Papa! We have to see it right now!”
“Okay, okay, little monster, we will,” Buck chuckles after her.
Ana turns back to Eddie and he smiles after them and then turns to her.
“I’m happy for you,” Ana says and Eddie looks at her curiously.
“Thank you. I am sorry about how…”
“Water under the bridge.” Ana waves her hand and points to a photo of her and her son, Milo, and Eddie smiles.
“He’s beautiful.”
“Your daughter is, too.” Ana wants to say she looks like a perfect mix between the two of them but she keeps those thoughts to herself.
They’ve never been close enough for that kind of conversation.
“Thank you. She’s certainly energetic, takes after Evan,” Eddie says this with such fondness that Ana’s thrown back to the hospital when Kylee was born, and how he looked at Buck even then.
“Nothing wrong with that.”
“Nope. Well, it was good to see you, I’m sure we’ll run into each other again.”
“Yeah, of course.” Ana smiles as he walks away, towards his family.
Ana looks at the photo of her son again.
Learning all of these things about these great people led her to her greatest joy.
She can’t be mad about that.
Snowed In - C.W.
Charlie Weasley x fem!reader
Requested: yes! by my love @lupinsclassroom
Ah HA I finally came up with a Charlie request. Okay, of course it’s professor reader because I’m obsessed with them but like....Charlie visits hogwarts, and then (I know logistically this isn’t possible bc ✨magic✨) but he gets snowed in and has to stay in the castle for the weekend and it’s just cozy and soft 🥺
Word count: 2.6k
Summary: sometimes, it takes just the right circumstances to get what you want.
Warnings: meal mention, reference to/implied sex (blink and you’ll miss it), winter fluff!
A/N: this took me so long to get done aaaaaaaa 😩 but yay ! more COMC professor & charlie 🥰
–
Christmas at Hogwarts was always a spectacular sight. The professors always loved to go above and beyond with the decorations, but even without them, the grounds and the castle looked, well, magical.
“Professor L/N?” a voice from across the room mumbled.
Y/N looked up from the stack of papers she was grading to see Eloise Abbott, wrapped in her cloak and her Hufflepuff scarf, standing at the entrance to her office. A neatly wrapped present was clutched in her gloved hands as she waited for her professor to invite her inside.
Athena was perched on her stand behind Y/N, resting after a long afternoon of delivering various Christmas gifts. Her sleeping figure seemed to appease the student’s apprehension slightly as she called out, “Come on in, Eloise!”
“Isn’t the train supposed to be leaving soon? What’re you still doing in the castle?” Y/N questioned, stashing away the stack of parchments on her desk, that way her attention would be fully on the Hufflepuff.
“Yep!” Eloise replied quickly, “I just wanted to drop off a present for you before I go! I know that you’re staying here for the holidays, right?”
“You’re right.” Y/N smiled. “Thank you for thinking of me, Eloise, that was very sweet of you.”
A swift nod was her reply, and as quick as she had come, Ms. Abbott turned on her heel and darted out of the room. Thankfully, she remembered to yell a hasty, “Happy Christmas!” over her shoulder before she was fully out of hearing range.
Y/N shook her head with a soft smile on her lips. Even after being her professor for nearly six years now, Eloise was still a shy little thing when it came to communicating with professors or any sort of authority figure. Still, the gesture warmed her heart greatly.
The thought of gifts and spending Christmas alone, well, not exactly alone, but not with the Weasleys this year put a slight damper on her mood, though. Minerva had asked her if she could spend the holidays at Hogwarts this year since they were running short of staff who could chaperone the students. Of course, Y/N could never say no to her favorite teacher turned cool boss. It was the least she could do.
With a sigh, she stroked Athena’s soft feathers and came to the conclusion that she was too distracted to continue her grading.
Despite her attempt for some alone time, Minerva managed to stop her in the hallway.
“Ah Y/N, just the person I wanted to see,” the older professor smiled.
“Anything I can do for you, Min?” Y/N replied.
She nodded, “I need your help with a particularly odd creature in my office. It doesn’t seem to want to leave.”
The two professors briskly walked towards the Headmistress’ office side by side, their winter robes swishing around their legs. Professor L/N’s brows furrowed at the lack of concern Minerva had shown at the fact that there was a creature in her office. Of course, the older witch was highly skilled and educated, so maybe it wasn’t that big of a problem. What did she need Y/N’s help for then?
“Er, Minerva,” Y/N began as they turned a corner, “What creature exactly is in your office? Do you think we need backup?”
“I didn’t exactly get a good look at it, I just saw that it had orange-colored fur.”
“Minerva.”
The sly grin that she was met with did nothing to help the situation. Y/N simply rolled her eyes and went along with the all too obvious scheme the Headmistress had hatched up this time.
The pair said nothing else as they continued their journey to the Minerva’s office, save for the password–’panthera leo’–once they reached the gargoyle statue. Y/N’s curiosity got the better of her as they ascended the spiral staircase, especially since the older witch hadn’t stopped grinning.
“So, you’re not going to tell me what’s going on despite the fact that you’re grinning at me like a cheshire cat?” Y/N probed, raising an eyebrow.
“You’ll see, dear.”
The younger professor had to push down the urge to roll her eyes. Thankfully, they had reached the top of the staircase, and the words she was about to say got stuck in her throat as she saw what, or rather who, was in the office.
“Charlie?” she gasped, after pushing the door open.
Leaning against the large oak desk with his legs crossed in front of him was Charlie Weasley with a shit-eating grin. Y/N paused at the entrance to the Headmistress’ office, her eyes darting between the redhead and her boss.
“He’s the orange-furred creature that you can’t seem to get out of your office?”
Even as she spoke the words, her head couldn’t wrap around the absurdity of the situation. Charlie let out a loud laugh at her question, his eyes moving his former professor and head of house, who had just slipped past Y/N and into her office.
“I asked Minnie here to help me out some with surprising you,” he grinned cheekily.
He pushed off the desk and took a few short strides. Faster than she could comprehend, he was standing in front of her, soft eyes staring down at hers and rough hands grasping at her arms.
“Hi,” he spoke softly.
In an instant, she practically melted in his arms, “Hi Charlie.”
The sound of someone clearing their throat brought them out of their little bubble and their heads turned in Minerva’s direction.
“Alright Mr. Weasley, I helped you surprise Y/N,” she smiled knowingly, “Now off with you two! I’ve got a school to run.”
With a shout of thanks, Charlie took Y/N’s hand and practically dragged her out of the office. Biting her lip to contain her grin, she felt like she was a student again, laughing through the deserted hallways as she and her boyfriend ran towards her quarters.
There was a lot of tripping over their own feet and a lot of giggling, but she hadn’t felt this elated in a long time. Whenever Charlie would turn to look back at her, the edges of her lips would turn upwards automatically, as if he was the source of her happiness and her laughter.
Which, in a lot of ways, he was.
Y/N had never been so glad to see the castle empty. It meant that she could let her professional professor facade down and let loose without having to think too hard about the repercussions.
“So,” she started as they reached the hallway containing her room, “Care to tell me when you planned all of this?”
The sparkle of mischief and delight in Charlie’s eyes nearly made her swoon, “I can’t stay long, unfortunately. Mum’s expecting me at the Burrow tonight, but I got an early portkey so that I could see you before Christmas.”
Pushing up on her tiptoes, Y/N kissed him softly, “You’re wonderful, do you know that?”
“Careful there, love, we don’t want to boost my ego too much.”
–
“You all set?” Y/N asked, smoothing out the creases in Charlie’s scarf and trying to busy herself in an attempt to distract her mind from the thought of not spending Christmas in his arms.
With a deep sigh, he answered, “Yep, just about.”
Majority of their afternoon together was spent in bed, much to their joint amusement. In Charlie’s defense, he had come to do whatever it was that Y/N wanted, and well, that was what she ended up choosing. In hindsight, it was probably their best option anyway, since the weather outside the castle had slowly begun to worsen.
By the time they had stumbled out of the warmth of Y/N’s bed and had gotten dressed once again, it was practically dark outside due to the snowstorm that rolled in.
“It’s looking pretty rough out there,” she noted, as the pair of them walked hand in hand down the deserted hallways.
Now and then, a student staying at Hogwarts for the holidays would pass by them and try their hardest not to stare at their hot Care of Magical Creatures professor and her equally hot dragon tamer boyfriend.
Each time a student rushed past, Charlie would wait until they were out of sight before making eye contact with Y/N and smiling so big it shouldn’t have been humanly possible.
“You’re insufferable,” she grumbled after the third student they encountered disappeared around the corner.
“You love me,” he shrugged.
The bickering pair paused mid step when they heard a new set of footsteps approaching them. For the second time that day, Y/N watched as Minerva approached.
“I’m afraid your journey to the Burrow has to be put on hold, Mr. Weasley,” she spoke as she reached the pair.
“What?” Y/N and Charlie said together.
“The storm outside is much too harsh for anyone to walk past the apparition wards, even with impervious charms,” she explained.
“What about your floo, can’t he use that to get to the Burrow?”
As Y/N spoke, she couldn’t help but feel a little guilty at the pang of excitement she felt at the thought of being able to spend more time with Charlie.
“Ministry’s just gotten back with word that the Floo Network is under maintenance until further notice.”
Charlie’s eyes flickered from Minerva’s solemn eyes to Y/N’s slightly confused ones, before he nodded, “Alright. Seems like I’m spending the night at Hogwarts then.”
–
Dinner that night was amusing to say the least. As most students were at home with their families, those who stayed behind all fit in the long table that was usually the Head Table. Minerva, Charlie, and Y/N tried their hardest to contain their smiles at the incredulous looks that some of the students had.
For some, it was their first time being in such close and intimate proximity to their professors. Others were wary of the attendance of the non-Hogwarts staff member, partly because he was a dragon tamer and mostly because he was Professor L/N’s boyfriend.
Y/N’s heart had melted, however, at the sight of Charlie having a chat with the younger students. She had a flashback of summers at the Burrow when his younger siblings still weren’t old enough to attend Hogwarts, and how they looked at him with wide eyes and thought everything he said was gospel.
“And then he opened his mouth so big I thought I was done for,” he spoke with such a tone that even Y/N was drawn in, “But turns out the old bugger was just going in for a yawn.”
The end of his story elicited a giggle from the youngest student at the table and Y/N was sure that her heart was positively a pile of goo.
As discreetly as she possibly could, she placed her hand on top of Charlie’s thigh and grinned cheerfully as he took the signal and placed his larger one on hers.
“Is it bad if I said that I’m glad you’re going to be here tonight?” she whispered when most of the attention wasn’t on them anymore.
“Absolutely not.” Charlie grinned and squeezed her hand. “Don’t you think the Floo being down sounds a little odd, though?”
The pair glanced at each other and then their eyes drifted towards the Headmistress. As if she could read their minds–which was entirely possible–Minerva caught their eyes and smirked from behind her goblet as she took a sip from it.
“Honestly, who knows what Minerva can come up with,” Y/N murmured, “She could tell us that there was a rogue Ministry gryffin creating potions in the dungeons and we would believe her.”
The nonchalance of her statement choked out a loud laugh from Charlie. The stilted noise coming from him as he tried to contain his amusement ended up making her giggle as well. As the group finished up with their meal, the pair of them would catch each other’s eyes once in a while and another round of trying to repress their laughs would begin.
They waited as everyone shuffled out of the Great Hall, stomachs full and eyes slightly droopy from the big meal. Their hands found each other as they walked down the chilly halls, providing a source of heat and comfort in the midst of so much cold.
Once they reached Y/N’s quarters, Charlie flopped down on the bed with a sigh, stretching out on the comforter with a groan.
Y/N couldn’t resist the urge to crawl onto the bed, tucking herself at his side. The familiar warmth of Charlie’s strong arm wrapping around her was enough for her to sigh contentedly, closing her eyes and succumbing to the gentle pull of sleep.
“Wait, wait…” she heard him mumble, feeling the words vibrate through his chest.
A groan escaped her lips as she felt him shift, pulling the both of them into a seated position.
“Can’t, ‘m comfy here,” she grumbled, refusing to open her eyes.
Instead of replying, Charlie carefully maneuvered them so that she lay back on the cold sheets and he slipped off the bed. It was silent for a few moments, save for the sound of his footsteps echoing through the room. Y/N was tempted to crack open her eyes just to see what he was up to, but the comfort posed by the bed was too strong.
She knew he would eventually come back, and he did, the bed dipping as he kneeled on the space next to her.
“Love,” he whispered, his hand brushing her cheek softly.
“What’s it?” she mumbled, finally easing her eyes open.
Beside her, sitting on the backs of his heels, Charlie held out a wrapped gift. The sight of him with a sheepish smile on his face, hands fidgeting nervously with the ribbon wrapped around the package, was enough for Y/N to sit up quickly.
“Charlie?” she asked, tentatively taking the gift from him, “What’s this?”
Her boyfriend cleared his throat before speaking, “I, erm, I was going to wait to have this delivered to you on Christmas morning but, I figured I’d rather see you open it in person.”
Y/N didn’t need any more explanation as she tore open the wrapping. An intricately designed box opened to reveal the most beautiful necklace she had ever laid her eyes on. It was fairly simple, the design, a single pearl-like object in the center of a silver chain. If it weren’t shifting through iridescent hues of pink then blue then green then purple, she would have thought it were a pearl.
Tentatively, her fingers glided over the small round thing and it was warm to the touch.
“Oh it’s gorgeous,” she breathed, her eyes flitting upwards to meet Charlie’s.
“You like it?” he rubbed the back of his neck.
“I love it!” she grinned, “Will you put it on me?”
For having such large and calloused hands, Charlie was nimble and quick with the clasp of the necklace, his fingers sending shivers down her spine as he placed the necklace on her.
“It’s made out of the shell of an Antipodean Opaleye’s egg,” he explained when she turned to face him once more, “I asked a friend of mine back in Romania if he could fashion it onto a necklace. I saw the shell and thought it would look stunning on you, I was right.”
With a soft smile, Y/N’s arms snaked around his neck and she pressed a soft kiss on his lips, “It’s perfect. You’re perfect.”
“Love you.”
“I love you too.”
The couple stayed in each other’s arms for a long time, relishing in the warmth and comfort of the other. When they finally managed to get dressed for bed and Y/N was tucked under Charlie’s arm for the night, their hearts were full.
“Happy Christmas, my love,” he whispered as they were lulled to sleep.
I see we're going ape over buddie and Choices tonight so
Yknow in 2.07, when Shannon comes back and her and Eddie have their first scene together? The argument at the end, after Eddie says it wouldn't be a good idea for her to see Christopher bc she left them, she says she needed him, she needed a husband and a co-parent - and "I needed someone to have my back!"
To which EDDIE says, "I always had your back"
*insert Incredibles "coincidence? I think NOT" gif here*
(Also side note, I do like that the show doesn't try to sugarcoat what Shannon did being messed up, and that Eddie's own actions weren't really the right thing either[thinking about his conversation with Buck where he says he got to pretend he left for a noble cause even tho he was running], and that it was just a sticky situation that neither of them were equipped to handle in any way, and snowballed. I do kind of wish we could've gotten post-divorce Shannon and Eddie and Christopher interactions, figuring out how they fit together, if at all, bc I like those intricate and messy situations but I could see how that might get too close to retreading old ground re: Michael and Athena's divorce. But I do hate how ive seen the fandom like. Seem to oversimplify things with Shannon sometimes? And make her the ultimate villain, and Eddie Did Nothing Wrong, Ever)
Hi Anon!
The decision to have Buck and Eddie's first bonding moment end with "You can have my back any day" and "or, y'know, you could have mine" only to then six episodes later find out that at least a contributing factor to Eddie's marriage dissolving was that he "didn't have her back" is like. Such a galaxy brain chaos move for them to take, honestly. Like?? They could've had the phrasing be literally anything in 2x07 but instead they had it directly echo Buck and Eddie in 2x01. What was the reason? Why did they do this?
As for the rest of your ask:
(gosh this got long and, uh, opinionated. It is Not Pretty below the cut)
One of the things I really liked about Eddie Begins is that we did get to see him at the beginning of his journey in being Chris's dad because it gives us an opportunity to appreciate how amazingly he's grown as a father. Like, he didn't start out as a perfect dad and he was definitely kind of lost in the woods at the beginning there when it came to the whole "how do I parent" thing. And before Eddie Begins, we'd only ever seen the end result of the growth he's gone through, where he really is a fantastic dad whose son is basically his entire reason for being. Before Eddie Begins, we get to hear him say things like "I left first" and "I've failed that kid more times than I can count but I love him enough to never stop trying" but we kinda have to take that on faith? Because we hadn't actually seen him be anything besides a good dad until we saw his Begins episode. (And even then in his begins it's like "area man in his early 20s unsure how to care for small child while also coping with PTSD and a toxic support system" which like. yeah. no shit. there's one hell of a learning curve there)
The thing about Eddie and Shannon as a couple and as parents that always gets to me is that they were so fucking young. We don't know exactly how old Eddie is in the show, but we can guesstimate pretty safely that he's around the same age as Ryan which would make him between 23 and 24 when Chris was born, and it seems reasonable to believe Shannon was around the same age. It's also a pretty common reading in the fandom -- although I'm not sure how much canon support there is for it because we really, really don't know anything about their relationship pre-Christopher unless I'm forgetting something -- that they got married because Shannon got pregnant and that was the Done Thing. And when you're 23-24, baby on the way, freshly married, that is just like. So much. It sure as hell ruined my parents' relationship when they did that exact thing, and then they disliked each other until they were 27 and then they got divorced, and no one was happier than me about it, I have to tell you.
Back to the show, I can only give you my impressions, obviously, but the impression I have always gotten from the whole "I left too" conversation and the context that goes into it and the different behaviours we see exhibited by the characters is that Eddie "left" first and it comes across to me that he was basically an early twenty-something kid running scared from the abstract concept of being a father in general, and then when he was forced home by an honourable discharge, and was confronted with the reality of Christopher, he managed to step the fuck up and become Christopher's dad. It's there in 2x02, right? "Oh, you've got a kid? I love kids!" "I love this one." Eddie doesn't strike me as a Swiss Army Knife all-purpose Dad(tm) the way Bobby is. Eddie is Christopher's dad. (and like, of course, he's obviously moved by kids when he's on a call, we've seen that enough times to know that if there's a child who can even glancingly remind him of Christopher, Eddie's sense of self-preservation goes out the window, and I love that about him as heart-stopping as it can be in practice)
Shannon, on the other hand, didn't run from the idea of being a mother -- at first. When she left, it wasn't from the abstract. She left Chris (and "gave up" on Eddie, thanks Helena). She was not running from a concept, she was running from a reality. I think Shannon is a fascinating character to include in a television show as a side character, because she really isn't a one note character. Like, she was unarguably a bad mother, and from what we saw, she was a questionable romantic partner to have (but as you said, anon, Eddie was also not 100% the best romantic partner when he was with Shannon either; their entire relationship so far as I can tell was built on sexual chemistry which, uh, super does not sustain a relationship), but she also seems to have been a devoted daughter? I mean, yeah, it's entirely possible that her mom being sick was a convenient excuse to bail -- and obviously she didn't come back after her mom died, and didn't, y'know, contact her son or husband in the interim, so yes, I can see that being a valid way to read the situation. I don't think she's the Ultimate Evil, because she strikes me as a very human character in all the ways that people are more often than not really fucking flawed.
But then we get back to the actual break-up scene. The first time I watched it (and second, and third; then the fourth time the person I was watching with was like "I mean, sure, but it could also be read in this light") her "I'm just learning how to be someone's mother" speech really bothered me? Partly because it was the abstraction of it, right? Eddie doesn't like kids, he likes Christopher, and Shannon sort of had the inverse journey there, I guess, where it went from she didn't know how to be Christopher's mother, to she didn't know how to be a mother. And that speech bothered me because it always sounded to me like she was bailing again. She begged Eddie to let her back into Christopher's life (guilt? I guess?) and like, straight up bribed him with sex which was sure a choice, and then decides -- for a second time -- that she's out. It sounded, to me, she was handing Eddie papers and maybe, in a few years, possibly, once she'd had "time" to "figure out how to be someone's mother" she would try again. Just like she had in the interim between leaving when Christopher was little and the time of season 2.
And like, that could totally be a misunderstanding of the scene and what she was saying. It's what I took away from it, but that could very well be influenced by the fact I was raised by divorced parents and my dad had custody and if you count up all the time I spent with either parent when I was a minor, I was predominantly raised by my father and have had an especially tempestuous relationship with my mother that is mostly (sometimes) repaired now that I'm in my late twenties and have not lived with her since I was sixteen.
Back to the show, and to your comment that the fandom tends to treat Shannon like the Ultimate Evil and act like Eddie Did Nothing Wrong, I mean. Yeah. Fandom as a rule tends to shirk nuance. We're all fools here on the internet sitting in our blue industrial waste container crying about a wee woo show. I personally believe a more nuanced take on that might be that Eddie has shown a great capacity to learn from his mistakes (sometimes to make fun, shiny, new ones, but for the most part, just like ends up doing better the next time) and Shannon did not show that capacity in the time we knew her.
I think, depending on what they did with it, there was potential for an interesting storyline if they'd played through the divorce. I don't think it would've been rehashing ground covered by Michael and Athena's divorce because I can't see Eddie and Shannon having reached a point of amicability and friendship. The only thing we know they had in common was Christopher, and frankly, when you boil it down, the ways they engaged with Christopher as a person were so disparate that -- to me -- it really didn't seem like they had Christopher in common when you get right down to it. But I wouldn't have wanted to see Christopher and Eddie dragged through an ugly divorce process. They deserve better than that.
There's also a conversation to be had about Shannon's blatant ableism towards her own son, but that is extremely not my lane since I am not disabled myself. But even from an outside perspective, basically their entire parking lot conversation in Haunted, uh, haunts me with it's repugnance and the fact that instead of calling her on any of it, Eddie "Chronically touch starved" Diaz's response was to kiss her? Gosh golly do I wish that was one of the mistakes he learned from properly instead of finding a new, shiny version.
ANYWAY this got long, tl;dr (although if you clicked on the read more, you probably read it) version is No, Shannon is not the Ultimate Evil, she's a shitty mom not a demon in a skin suit and a pretty yellow sundress; and No, Eddie is not a flawless human who's never done wrong in his life but holy fuck is he trying and he'd be the first person to tell you he's made mistakes (and often has been); and no, sorry, I don't want to see the divorce storyline play out because we probably would've had to see either Eddie Bashing, Shannon Redemption, or Shannon turning up again like a cardboard cut out of a cartoon villain the way Eva did and I want to be witness to exactly zero of those things.
#the ghost ship answers questions#I...honestly don't know what to tag this as#I have thoughts about eddie and shannon's relationship#that are probably unpopular opinions#teal dear she's a shitty mom not a demon in a skin suit and a pretty yellow sundress#and I also don't like her for personal reasons#and eddie is not perfect but I wouldn't want him to be and like seeing him try to improve constantly#and also am personally predisposed to like single dads#also for personal reasons
