I know this is still really early in the project, and things could still potentially change. But I really appreciate seeing "toxic yaoi" that is actually toxic. I'm sick of seeing toxic yaoi that's just two kinda sucky people. I'm so intrigued to see how downright awful some of these guys get/are

Thank you very much! I'm a bit of a For Real toxic yaoi connoisseur you could say. I don't like/wanna ruin the fun by saying "hey guys it's like toxic as in abusive" but like you said I worry that people will just me say toxic yaoi and think it's just two guys being kinda dicks to each other and then see what actually happens and get mad at me for being silly.

and uh, it gets bad. I would say act 1 is the most tame about those aspects of the story. So get excited (or afraid. whichever)

sometimes it feels like people call m/m ships they like yuri not because the relationship explores themes and tropes that are most commonly found in the genre, or takes inspiration from yuri, or even from any place of experience with yuri media to be drawing a comparison to things they like about yuri, but because they want to absolve themselves of liking "yaoi" by saying the BL they like is actually something better, because to paraphrase a really good post, admitting to liking yuri makes you look smart and admitting to liking BL makes you look like a pervert and no one unpacks what biases there might be in this

(also probably compounded by whatever compels people to say "he's a woman to me <3" to defend themselves on posts about how people don't treat female characters with the same depth and interest as male characters)

i can feel myself getting pretentious about people misusing the yuri meme i need to go to bed
