BOYCOTT EUROVISION FOR ISRAEL PARTICIPATION.

I am the Eurovision gay this time of year, I love this show. Not only is my country hosting 2024 but it's also in a city I love, but I can't watch as people sing about peace and love while Palestinians are getting killed by one of the participants.

I've complied a couple of petitions, open letters and information regarding Eurovision: Eurovision isn't the highest priority regarding Gaza, but this show is marketing & tourism for countries, Israel is using it to pink wash their politics

According to SVT, Swedish television network in charge of Eurovision 2024 in Sweden Malmö, Eurovision is apolitical, and therefore Israel qualify. They refer to any calls for boycott meaningless ( via )

Eurovision has always been political, and was created as a celebration of peace after WW2. Songs are statements, and EBU took action by banning Russia and Belarus for the invasion of Ukraine. It's a way to show sympathy and solidarity, which Gaza is in need of now.

Why Eurovision is so important to Israel is the opportunity of pink washing, and appearing liberal and LGBTQ-friendly, that the show encourages. This leads to great marketing and tourism for the country, alqueerian on twitter did a great thread about it:

The absurdity and stupidity of all shitflix cancelations lies in one simple question: How many of those canceled shows have you actually heard of before they got canceled?

- Warrior Nun - never heard of it until the moment I started seeing its fans spamming every shitflix post. And that was its second season. It had two seasons, for fucks sake, and most of us have never heard of it. You wanna know whose fault that is? Let me give you a hint. No, it's not the viewing numbers.

- First Kill (or whatever its name is) - Never heard of it until, once again, I saw people complaining about the cancelation under shitflix posts. Once again, guess whose fault that is.

- Santa Clarita Diet - Never heard of it. Didn't even know it was canceled until it made it to the list of pissed of people counting how many of them they axed. Whose fault is that?

- Inside Job - Yeah, never heard of it until it got canceled. Also, canceled after they renewed it. Shitflix: guess we changed our minds.

- Archive 81 - Heard of it when the cancelation was announced.

- The OA - Remember just hearing about it through the fog, even though it came out years ago.

- Sense 8 - know about it only thanks to fans' videos and fanart. I don't remember shitflix ever mentioning it.

- Lockwood & Co - I know about it thanks to fans spamming posts asking for renewal news.

And the list goes on with, I assume, shows I have never heard of.

I've never seen any of these shows, but my open wound is 1899 that I believe got treated the dirtiest of them all.

I have heard of it two years before the premiere, thanks to a 50 seconds long teaser that got me patiently waiting for years because it was my cup of tea. It came from the people who proved themselves before by creating a critically acclaimed show that you can find on a top 10 list of greatest shows of all time. Those people have spent years developing a new filming technique for shitflix. What a way to say thank you.

8 out of 10 people around me have seen 1899. Those people haven't even seen GoT or LotR for fucks sake, the most famous show and movie ever, but they have seen 1899. But not because shitflix promoted it, but because people did.

There was zero promotion, zero cast interviews, zero mentions after the release. It was still watched and talked about by so many people. It has more viewing hours than their hit shows running for 3+ seasons put together. It's a show you can't just binge and forget, you have to actually turn your fucking brain on. It was released in the most busy time of the year, during the damn World Cup and winter holidays. It was still number one for weeks. It was given less than 30 days. They decided to cancel it before it even premiered. They deleted the trailer with 10+ million views from YT.

The same goes with other shows. I have seen zero cast interviews, zero promotion or mentions by their own platform and they still have loyal fan bases that didn't stop talking about them.

But then you have dogshit shows like the Night agent that is getting hyped by shtflix every single fucking day. Fake numbers, pumped up to get people to watch a generic, a hundred times seen before, piece of crap. It got more hype than fucking GoT, and yet I know zero people who have actually watched it. Yep, there is no one I know, in real life or online, that has actually watched this show. So you figure it out.

People who have watched the shows I've mentioned probably have the statistics for them, and have probably seen the viewing hours being blamed for it, which was bullshit.

The latest nail in the coffin was Lockwood & Co. They kept fans waiting for months, and then they announced the cancelation during Eurovision so that fans wouldn't be able to go viral about it because everyone talked about fucking Eurovision.

Shitflix has canceled 26 sci-fi/fantasy shows in the last 3 years. 26! Do you all remember when we couldn't even name 26 shows of all genres put together, let alone watch them?

What all these shows had in common is that they were original and more or less unique and creative, not something you can find at least 6 copies of in either streaming or network TV.

It's like they created all these shows just so they can cancel them, because they are doing their best to actually burn every trace they ever existed.

Shitflix is killing creativity in every form, but in the end, that will be their undoing.

At this point, why would anyone want to watch Eurovision?

First they've rigged 2023 voting. And instead of showing any remorse, they've doubled down on it in an interval song that was supposed to be funny, but came out as extremly offensive. Sweden is turning into UK 2.0 with how pretentious they sound.

The stage looks cheap af. Guess they were shitting their pants with just the mere thought of organising this event in a bigger city. Because bigger city = bigger riots.

Then they've allowed Israel to participate and honestly what the actually fuck???? Everything that could be said about it has been said already, so all I have to add is that EBU didn't stop there! They've actually muted people booing the shit out of Israel's representative and replaced it with a clapping track.

All of the performances I've seen so far were medicore. The only ones that absolutely ate were Portugal, Croatia and my favorite: Armenia. (Estonia, Finland and Netherlands are great as well but in a 'lets go bananas' category). And honestly, if you wish to vote for anyone, even though I really believe we shouldn't vote at all, let it be Armenia. Great folk song, funny, pure happiness, amazing vocals with Witcher III vibes. And if anyone in this god forsaken competition deserves any support: it would be Armenia.

Did I mention that fucking Azerbaijan was also allowed to pariticipate. Again???

Oh yeah, all of the artists are isolated from the audience by a big ass screen, so we can't witness any funny moments from them during the show. You know, in case anybody would like to flash out some Palestinian flag. Or if anybody from the audience wished to practice throwing their drinks at Israel delegation.

The atmosphere between participants feels heavy as fuck. No romance story between Norwegian Furrys and Spanish Belle this year for us. Or Italians trying to learn Ukrainian. Or people dancing together to the Train song.

Oh, and the guy who was basically singing this year's version of Love Love Peace Peace got cancelled. Possibly. We do not know.

Anyway. Do not watch the final. Do not vote. If you feel like you have to vote to stop Israel from winning, vote for Armenia or Croatia. Fuck EBU.

Hi everyone, I hope you all are doing well. I just wanted to hop on here and have a little chat.

First off, happy Eurovision month! I can't believe that in a week we will have seen the First Semi-Final and have our first qualifiers! I can taste the discourse as I'm sure most others can as well.

Second, you may have noticed that every Saturday I would make a random post just for fun to keep checking in and sharing random things. However, I don't think I will be able to put up a post this upcoming Saturday.

To put it simply: I will be going home from school and starting my summer break on Friday. And between that and finals, I'm really REALLY busy and don't think I can put something up in time.

To put it complex: On Tumblr, we have talked a lot about banning Israel from Eurovision this year due to the genocide in Gaza. You may have noticed that I didn't rank or talk about the song as well as the song for Azerbaijan for the monstrosities taking place in Nagorno-Karabakh. You may also notice (and I make rather clear) that I am an American Eurovision fan and have kept up with the news about the college encampments happening around the country among other places. My school is one of the places that had an encampment until it was stopped and destroyed by brutal force. Students were injured and arrested in this. Because of that, my mental health has really taken a plummet. I've had no motivation to do schoolwork, hence why I'm really busy this finals season as opposed to others. And even if I wasn't flooded with these finals (which in my opinion should be canceled), I probably would want to take this weekend off to rest and heal my mind from these painful events.

Luckily, what I was already planning on posting is already up. justastargirl9 is my Instagram, and I have a story highlight titled "esc in 30 days" where you can see my 30 day Eurovision Song Challenge by ESC Shane. You may know a lot of these, and some may even be unpopular (ignore "Most Overrated" though because I don't find a lot of the entries overrated).

While I will be taking this weekend off to recover, I should be back to talk about the big show as we are so close to the end, and I want to finish the season I started. EDIT - Nevermind lol. After their performance last night, I get it. While I still stand by what I wrote, their other stuff has been brought to my attention, and their energy yesterday was unmatched and I genuinely enjoyed the performance. The post below was my initial reaction after hearing the studio version and seeing their glam gett-up. Next time I'm gonna let my opinion sit for a while hahah. They deserved better 🇩🇪🖤🇩🇪

As a metalhead, I can't stand Germany's entry. You can cancel me right now, but it makes me cringe so much. I mean I did expect any attempt at metal for Eurovision be watered down or that the artists would stick with something like glam or power (can't be done properly in 3 minutes but still), but this just doesn't work. Not to be a genre purist, but it's glam rock at best, and not half the entry Lordi's Hard Rock Hallelujah was. The song is all over the place and it doesn't quite know what it wants to be (in a bad way). The chorus is awful and the lyrics are childish and abysmal. Is Eurovision so much about generic pop that the fans will give a uniqueness pass to any non-pop entry? I'd let it slide if they were campier about it, but this way, it just comes across as a Eurovision song that takes itself too seriously and sounds like a parody thing written for the side entries in Eurovision: A story of Fire Saga movie. I didn't listen to the band's other stuff, but if the "la la la" chorus was a result of them trying to cater to pop-inclined audience, Måneskin proved that you can win with non-diluted rock and Hatari proved that the audience doesn't mind a solid industrial track or some screaming, not to mention Hungary's AWS. I get that we're over "boring ballads" and we want campy and goofy, but the taste bar is way too low at this point. It's funny to me how Germany attempts a different approach every year and it just doesn't seem to work (this does seem like the most successful try yet, but still), and I wish them luck in the future lol

Belgium: My act was a bit dark, not bad, but not everyone's taste. We got 19th place and I was honestly already surprised I made it to the finale. I thank the jury because we got 3 televotes from Lithuania and Ukraine and 71 jury votes. 😅

Germany: At least you got votes...

Belgium: I know dear, I'm sorry ahahaha. Anyway, my favourite act was Ukraine's, I had no idea what it said but it was honestly such a mood and such a good vibe.

Luxembourg: Yes but that's the state not the private company and every time the state wants to fund the broadcaster, the people vote against it because it costs too much, and then they complain because we don't participate. I mean we had the highest amount of wins per participation, and we made many singers famous like France Gall. *sigh...*

Italy: *pats Luxembourg on the back* I know what it feels like, having to organise something but not having enough money..

What do you think about them pulling out of Reading and Leeds bc of "Scheduling conflicts" - they aren't slick, R and L clash with the VMAs so they're going there instead☠

i'm so glad someone asked me because i was holding my tongue cuz i didn't want to be "negative" unprovoked lmao

first of all i feel so bad for the people who bought tickets just because they were going, and i feel extra bad for the people who said they sold their o2 arena tickets because they were confirmed to play at reading and leeds. i honestly don't think there's any way to make up for those people. even if they play another gig in the area, those people still lost money, something regular people don't tend to have a lot of, if they forgot that by now, because festivals don't refund you if someone pulls out

now, the elephant in the room. i'm not surprised. i've been saying they've been hyper focusing on the us for a long time, and now that has come to bite fans in the ass. there's no other way to interpret that other than "we care more about an award show than our fans". that was certainly a Choice. and now it's like, do we all have to be worried about them cancelling on us if something shows up in the us last minute? it might seem alarmist, but what they did clearly showed us where their and their team's priorities are, at least to me

if they win, it wouldn't have been hard to have someone else accept the award for them. if they don't, how fucking embarrassing for them to pull out of a festival where so many people wanted to see them just to be clowns. and if they perform there, which we don't even know if they will, you traded playing your good songs to a live audience who actually likes you to probably play a cover people can't even stand anymore and/or your worst song to date, so congrats i guess

nothing stupid they do surprises me anymore, tbh. i'm just like oh okay, this is what we're doing now [ben affleck smoking.jpg]. they've been making poor choices since eurovision 2022, maybe even before that. what surprises me is that people are only now catching up

France The song is good, but the stage performance left a lot to be desired. One of my issues with this performance is that it seems to be relying on sex appeal that Amandine just doesn't have. Like she's alright but her dress and some of the camera angles seemed to be trying to sexualize her in a way that didn't come off quite right. Spain The live vocals here were... so bad. So bad. And I can't take that lead singer seriously because she for some reason reminds me of Dora the Explorer. Staging wasn't so bad I guess and tbh neither is the song itself. Germany This is actually pretty okay, bar Natalie getting extremely off from her backing track during the first verse. Like this song is very Cascada in that it's heavy, trashy schlager, but that doesn't entirely put me off the song. The staging was boring but it could have been way worse. And, aside from the backing track thing I just mentioned, Natalie does a good job performing. I remembered this song as being way worse than it actually is so I'm almost pleasantly surprised.

United Kingdom The song itself is actually pretty nice. I really like the chorus. However, the staging was boring as heck, and honestly? I don't like how Bonnie Tyler sounds here. Like Holding Out for a Hero was great and all but I just hate how she sounds live... especially in the verses, like it's just ugly and I don't like listening to it. Sweden You is another one of those songs that just hits me emotionally. Robin also has a lot of vocal power, which adds to the emotion of the song. I love You as a song, and I think Robin himself did a great job - my grievances here are with the staging. I don't know what was up with those dancers, why they were there, whatever, they added nothing to the performance and seemed out of place a lot of the time and tbh I think that's why this song tanked. Italy Nothing really happens in this song. L'essenziale falls firmly in the category of songs I usually label "it's good, I guess" in these reviews. It's a pretty song, Marco's a good singer, the staging (while not very engaging) works with the song, and Marco looks great in that suit... but alongside the many, many amazing songs from this year it's not hugely good. A little confused by the 21-29 range but for the most part this makes sense to me. The choice between Denmark, Russia, and Ukraine was so hard smh. Voting/intervals The Swedish Smorgasbord skit isn't actually that funny but nothing tops the stunt where Carola is literally blown offstage. That's fucking hilarious. Eric Saade is so... pesky. I don't like him. They seriously couldn't find anyone else to host the green room... Petra's a great host and all, but I need to point out how bitchy she was to the spokespersons after it became clear Sweden wasn't going to do well, she became very brusque with them which not all hosts do and I think it was pretty unprofessional of her. "TEN POINTS GO TO DENMARK I AM SO SORRY" remains one of the funniest Eurovision voting moments even 7 years later.

Thoughts after watching What easily could have happened here is a 2008 situation, where Russia, Ukraine, Norway, and Denmark all canceled each other out and landed solidly in places 2-5 the same way Ukraine, Greece, and Armenia canceled each other out leading to Dima Bilan's win. Clearly that's what Azerbaijan wanted to happen if the accusations of vote rigging have any merit to them. Luckily, though, Emmelie prevailed and gave us a great show in Denmark in 2014.
