Also, what an amazing match from Karolina Muchova and Xinyu Wang! So many twist and turns, and what an amazing showcase of their tennis skills. Both are such smart players, lovely game sense. Muchova prevailed and won in the third set!
Wang is still very young, so i rly hope to see more of her in the future.
Muchova played a brilliant match, wish her all the best in the next round (and hopefully more rounds after that)!

RG WD F: Su-Wei Hsieh/Xinyu Wang def. Leylah Fernandez/Taylor Townsend [10] 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-1 Match Stats
Tumblr media
📸 Eurosport
Hsieh/Xinyu raised their level in the second set, which took effect at the third where they outplayed Leylah/Taylor by returning the breadstick after the first set breadstick. This was reflected in the break points conversion rate, where Leylah/Taylor had their chances (13), mostly as a result of Hsieh/Xinyu’s shaky start and the momentum-setting attempt in the other sets, but Hsieh/Xinyu’s baseline-net balance enabled them to maximize their chances, converting 38% of their break chances.
Interestingly, although both pairs did not score an ace, Leylah/Taylor landed 67% of their first serves, and their service games dominance was reflected in the statistics (but not necessarily at the flow once the third set arrived). Winning 4% more of their service games than Hsieh/Xinyu, Leylah/Taylor won 2% more points from their first serves and 5% from their second, as well as winning 3 more points in general. However, since parts of this match was return and rally-heavy, hence even slightly excelling at the service games was insufficient for Taylor/Leylah to take the championship.
This marked Hsieh’s first Grand Slam title after his comeback, specifically after Wimbledon 2021 (partnering Elise Mertens). For Xinyu Wang, this is her first ever Grand Slam doubles title. A Grand Slam final for Leylah/Taylor (another one, apparently, for Taylor while Leylah was the US Open 2021 singles runner-up) could also be a boost for them moving forward, together. Definitely some interesting pairs to look up to in the future!

@BendouZhang: After Zheng Qinwen withdrew from the mixed doubles after marathon matches in singles, ZZZ checked with Wang Xinyu. Xinyu still stayed in Paris because she found "the flight ticket is too expensive." She came to play, with a pair of hard court shoes. Now they get silver medals.

Can't think a better way to celebrate Christmas rather than watch these guys playing tennis(although it took me 10 hours on the road now I'm soooooo tired)(thought I deserve an award like the most supportive ruudfan or something)(you owe me a lot of wages man)🎄In the second photo Casper was actually eating an apple during Jerry and Kei's match. What a chill guy. Love it. (sounds like I wouldn't appreciate whatever this stupid Norwegian did anyway)
Sadly didn't catch my man to get a photo or signature. But I look awful today so maybe not a bad thing at all. Wait for next time. Will get you Casper😈

Despite how close the third set looked like, Hsieh/Xinyu’s level-raise back at the second set was imminent in the third set. The beginning of that set looked close and so did the middle, but Hsieh/Xinyu turned out to dominate the rest of the set, hence they returned the bakery favor for the championship.
After holding their service games (1-0), Hsieh’s volleys fumbled Taylor/Leylah’s game point and created the former pair’s break point until they broke early to 2-0 at the expense of Leylah’s volley going too far, consolidating to 3-0 right after. After that, Taylor/Leylah held their service game to 3-1, but the subsequent game turned out to have an entirely different story.
A see-saw happened in the fifth game as 6 deuces happened, one of which was a result of Xinyu’s forehand error. Noticeably, Taylor tried to paint the lines with her backhands, where Hsieh got run over at the net for one of their break points (they had 3, another one came from Hsieh’s volley error), but got foiled. Leylah’s forehand error then resulted in the fifth deuce, but Hsieh’s working volleys secured the hold to 4-1 after the sixth deuce, which happened thanks to Xinyu’s working forehand.
Somehow, Hsieh/Xinyu had the chance to serve for the championship at 5-1, breaking at the expense of Leylah’s forehand error and another error by Taylor, implying the pressure points’ execution was not in their favor. They successfully served for the title, returning the breadstick (6-1) after a rocky hold (to 30), inferring how their level-raise paid off by the end of the match.
