Xaan
Character Type: Minion
Ability: On night X, all Townsfolk are poisoned until dusk. [X Outsiders]
Flavour Text: “Down they fall. One by one. By two, by three, by five.

Experimental character revealed 06/12/2024! 🐍
This character is powerful for evil and a lot of fun for puzzle-loving good players. Having outsider modification and poisoning in one minion is really cool!
I also really love the theming of this character, around ‘x marks the spot’ and sort of vaguely algebra, and the scaly (snake?) infinity symbol thing.
#i can’t believe i’m so late on this i literally just remembered i hadn’t posted it#botc#blood on the clocktower#social deduction#board games#experimental#xaan

My OC, Jedi Master Refeli Torkin VIII Zarander, is seeking answers to life's greatest questions from the Dark Lords on Korriban.
Torkin VIII was born with one of the greatest gifts - the ability to experience Force visions. Despite the good his abilities bring, he feels as though the fate of the entire galaxy rests on his shoulders. After all, not even the Jedi Grand Masters can provide answers to what the Force showed him...
(And yes, he got Marka Ragnos's scepter lol)
This scene is from my SW fan story called Pantora. Hope to put it on paper someday 👀

Man if you successfully introduce a piece of media to me you BETTER be prepared for the possibility of me being really fucking insane about it. I am physically incapable of not going feral when I like something. I either have no opinion on something or I make it my entire personality for at least 2 weeks. There is no in between.
#this is about bsd btw lol. xaan thanks for showing me ur special interest. our special interest now comrade#lostposts#ftr there are obviously exceptions to this dichotomy but yknow. jokes. funnies.

Script-A-Day #29: Ride the Cyclone by Paradox
How far can you push living when it's your turn to die?
Featured characters: Undertaker, Golem, Boffin
Fabled characters: Spirit of Ivory
Jinxes:
Boffin / Village Idiot: If there is a spare token, the Boffin can give the Demon the Village Idiot ability.
Complexity: Advanced. Recommended for bold bluffers who can outwit the Al-Hadikhia's choices, along with solvers who can eliminate Boffined Demon candidates and Goblins through social reads and mechanical info.
Database link (find the PDF and JSON for running it there!)
Writeup under the cut!
Before I say my piece, a note from Paradox himself!
Despite looking like an Al-Hadikhia script, Ride the Cyclone has certainly evolved into a Boffin script that uses the Al-Hadikhia as a loud and fun way to present it's simple but arguably powerful ability. With a mixture of confirmation, meta, and mechanical roles, it subtly provides misinformation into the good team through social plays and power. Each day and night is about making a choice in the moment and reading what others are doing, with no death protection as you might find on other Al-Had scripts, there's just what's happening now.
From Axolator's notes, I love highlighting that the High Priestess is sent to a player not a character as extra reasoning as to why certain picks should be made. With only Xaan and Puzzlemaster as direct sources of misinformation, you can often trust you've been shown the best person to talk to so talk! And speaking of High Priestess, remember Demons with cool Boffin abilities like High Priestess, Fisherman, and Savant can receive meta-info a normal Savant wouldn't learn and definitely shouldn't be telling town! Finally, I fully support the Boffin-VI jinx being able to make a Solo-VI completely drunk as to give a reason to use that jinx.
Ride the Cyclone is a script with the Al-Hadikhia as the only Demon with a bunch of characters that would really rather choose to live. With characters like the Balloonist, Dreamer, Undertaker, and Golem on-script, evil will have to lean on the Boffin and Mezepheles to sow distrust in players who can otherwise confirm themselves through their sobriety. Is that Dreamer really the Dreamer, or a Demon harnessing the power of their Boffin to cold-call people's characters? If they are the Dreamer, are they even still good, or are they mez-turned and waiting to lie about their choice come nightfall? Characters like the Village Idiot, Savant, and Fisherman can help, but can be foiled by a Puzzlemaster, Recluse, and Xaan, and even if you have narrowed down an evil, they could just be the Goblin!
Bag-building requires a decent amount of finesse here. With the Al-Hadikhia as the only Demon, consider how many characters would rather choose to live instead of die, and work from there: a higher concentration of powerful characters will often result in a shorter, swingier game, depending on if the evil team can get triplekills or get drowned in a sea of information pointing their way. A balance of characters that want to live and die is key to ensure a fun, fair game.
There are some character combinations that require some careful thought on this script. Notably, the Golem (while normally quite Outsidery in a quick Al-Had game due to its inability to nominate freely) can solve if a Goblin claim really is the Goblin by nominating them, putting an actual Goblin in a tricky spot. I wouldn't say to never put them in the same bag (after all, a Golem knowing there isn't a Goblin by their existence is incredibly strong), but be careful, and make sure the evil team has some outs that aren't the Goblin getting a win. On the other hand, a mez-turned Banshee can be an incredible force for evil, especially in smaller games: it's not a "never-do", for similar reasons, but handle it with care and make sure your good team can handle a potential surge of evil votes.
The Spirit of Ivory is on-script to prevent an evil team from repeatedly resurrecting their Mezepheles and turning more than one person evil with the ability.
Some notes:
I made this note in the School of Alteration writeup, but don't proc a Snake Charmer swap on the Recluse. I'm not even going to cover what could mechanically happen — just don't. It's not fun for anyone on either team.
I've mentioned the High Priestess a fair bit on my previous writeups, and discourse surrounding it has flared up again more recently. Personally, I find the High Priestess most fun when they're incentivized to have conversations with their pings and socially read them: I've said this a lot, but the operative word in the HP's ability text is "talk". A HP's ping should mean nothing in a vaccuum: instead of expecting your players to treat it like a meta-info role, make sure they understand that the purpose of the High Priestess is to talk to the people they see and make social reads. To that end - show them to players who benefit from being talked to! A Klutz looking for someone to pick, a Goblin floundering in a collapsing bluff, and a Savant who needs someone to check their notes are much better (and more fun) pings than the Shugenja sitting next to the Demon.
Remember that when a player chooses "die", they die at that instant: this means that the Banshee's announcement happens immediately after they pick die, not at the end of the night phase. This means that any players announced after the Banshee's call will know they can choose to live!
Be a touch careful with the Puzzlemaster here. It's much more damaging in an environment where everything goes faster, but given the mechanical and confirmatory nature of the characters on-script, can often solve who their puzzledrunk is and kill the Demon that same day. All that to say: be careful if you puzzledrunk the Banshee and can't sell that the Xaan night was that night?
Consider how you're running the Boffin-VI jinx. Different STs run different rules when it comes to whether or not the jinx impacts the VI's ability to self-drunk. Some STs rule that a solo VI in a game with a Boffin-VI can never be drunk, since the Boffin-VI isn't an "extra": others (like myself) think it's more fun and powerful if a solo VI can be self-drunk if there's a Boffin granting the VI ability as well. Think about which ruling you prefer, and let your players know how you'll run it.
That's about it from me! I'll see you tomorrow with the next script!
(If you're wondering about the Amnesiac, Alsaahir, and Zealot, this was an older version of the script, before characters like the Recluse and VI were added.)

I wrote something, it's not done, but I feel pretty good about this snippet
I'm trying to focus more on show and don't tell so... tell me how that goes pls <3
The set internal atmosphere of the Wo.Con.S. Heron reminds Rhea of Xaan-Ber when the vibrant grasses dried to stiff brown husks and Hadeena bore down, hot and unforgiving, onto the land below. She passes a few crew gathered together in the hall, mingling before take off. Cheeks pink and foreheads glistening, they pull at their uniform collars and fan themselves with their hands.
They pause to salute her as she passes, fluid, slumping bodies snapping taut as steel. One, a girl, curly redhead with more freckles than skin, looks ready to pass out.
She will have to get Ursa to recalibrate the ship’s temperature regulation. Perhaps sooner than later. Rhea tugs at the suddenly constricting collar of her uniform. Heat moves like fingers through her fur, pressing into her skin and drawing out sweat before the ship’s even left the dock.
“Commander Youngstar,” One acknowledges. Rhea observes his young faced appearance, baby-fat cheeks and wide eyes that scoop up the stars and planets and holds them tight. Rhea returns the salute with a nod and continues onward.
Quiet whispers and giggles break out among the group as Rhea turns a corner and crosses a corridor with considerably less traffic.
There is a sudden quiet to the air, even though the rest of the ship bustles back and forth behind her. The overhead lights glare down, reflecting off the newly polished floor. The shimmer ricochets from every surface turning the hallway into the hollowed out isoid shell she found when she was seven. Wet with pond water, the crystalline surface refracted Hadeena’s heated gaze in all directions.
Fractured by the light, Commander Youngstar peers back at her, from the floor, from the walls, from the ceiling with a stern expression. From every angle, sky blue eyes and dusky blossom fur stands, wrapped in her black uniform, square-shouldered and stiff.
Rhea continues towards the elevator stationed at the end of the hall. The doors open automatically and her stride does not slow as she steps aboard and turns to face the hall. “Haron,” Rhea addresses the voice automated system. “Bridge.”
When the door closes she finally sees herself in the chrome interior. It is also at this moment that she takes notice of an unruly lock of mane which managed to avoid its trim. Sticking up like a zagging lightning bolt, it almost resembles a radio’s bent antenna from Earth’s twentieth century.
“Dammit.” She breathes as she peers at herself. Using the rippling reflection of the elevator’s interior Rhea approximates the lock’s location on her head. When she feels the ghost of coarse fiber against her hand she grumbles, brows knitting together. Rhea runs her hand over her head, the lock flattens then pops back up. Frowning, Rhea runs her fingers through her mane. This time the straggler is hidden.
At least for now.
Her tail flicking, Rhea wrings her hands.
Then they smooth over her uniform. She looks at the white twine of which she had patched her uniform up. It's bumpy and uneven as she runs her palm over it again and again. Rhea bites her lips and picks at the string, the rough pads of her fingers causing the twine to fray. “No.” She mutters and lets her hands drop to her sides.
Suddenly, in the reflection, the patchwork looks like the scars she hides on her back and torso.
Rhea pulls on her collar again, attempting to fight the fabric as it tightens around her jugular.
