There are a thousand things Pete wants to throw at Tom's head. That he's selfish. That he doesn't care how Pete feels. That he doesn't appreciate what Pete does, work wise and at home. He's the one who literally fills up the fridge. Makes sure there's enough food in the house. Thinks through what to eat and prepares it. Because he gets it. Tom's job is important and Tom doesn't have that much time to do those things. And yes, he still loves Tom. So much. But God, he drives him crazy sometimes. Is it too much to ask to not talk about Tom for one fucking evening? Can't they talk about Pete? Or even something totally unrelated, something seemingly unimportant? Like what's your favorite animal? He's sure that would be an interesting conversation but no, all Tom thinks and talks about is work. Nothing but work.

January writing update

ok well!! this is what I meant about routine being key, and once broken, it's very hard to get back into it x)) I was doing so well until that sickness a couple of weeks ago... after I missed a few days then, I couldn't quite get back into the flow, so I practically had no choice but to wait for a new month and just do my best in the mean time 😩

anyway, I ended January with 45k words total in my draft, so I wrote around 23k this month. which isn't bad by any means, but still quite short of my original goal 😩 at least I didn't do worse than December lol...

since February only has 28 days, I'm gonna set my goal a little lower - 25k words. more than I did this month, but less than I'd wanted to originally, so I feel like it should be fine. as long as I don't get sick again I guess haha

gonna keep doing my accountability posts, and hopefully I can start a proper streak again lol

05/09/2024: everyone wake up it's take walks in the rain and hole up in the library season

academia: slowly working through preliminary research for a potential dissertation topic (women in medieval/early modern warfare), battling the university website for it to acknowledge me as an incoming student.

writing: ... so i accidentally started a new project again. that makes 13, not including the fanfic i write, but whelp. i'm hoping i can mesh it into a pre-existing project, since they're on a similar theme, and that'll feed two birds with one scone.

ADORIEL'S TEARS PROGRESS UPDATE

Hi everyone,

It's an even day, so I thought it would be a good time to give a quick summary of where I'm at with Adoriel's Tears.

As I hope you've noticed with the sneek peaks, I'm continuing to write in my corner and interacting a lot less here.

The last Q&A and some asks I received after it have a lot to do with it.

The end of 2024 and the beginning of this year has been and is hard for me in the real life I'm prioritizing, so I'm writing less regularly than before, but the days dedicated to this activity are generally enough to make up for the days off.

I lost a good part of my progress in mid-December due to an oversight on my part, but I eventually caught up.

So far, I've written the entire path of the Familiars and its various branches, added a little to the Plushie one and started the first scene of the one about Sirius.

This one is rich in branches and choices, but after having a fellow author read it, I know it's worth it.

I'm also continuing to polish up the old chapters and writing the Christmas special side story, which I'm thinking of charging for to be honest.

I've also decided that I won't be answering any more questions where Elianna and Ashlyen's names appear together and about how they're handling things with Mc. These questions have already been widely addressed and only serve to make me sullen and just want to either stop the whole thing or do a complete rewrite of the story, bypassing Mc's childhood.

I've also blocked Tumblr notifications as I found they were taking up too much space in my mind and I encourage anyone who might feel overwhelmed to do so if they wish.

That's it, I think I've covered it all, let's meet again for a new excerpt sharing very soon. 😊

Obviously, the entire game is not 1 million words, but with Chapter 11 now done and Chapter 12, an epilogue and edits still to go, I'm pretty sure we'll surpass the 1 million words mark.

Hi, 🌹🌹🌹 for sentences from your random drafts, please.

This is from chapter 5 of The Bad News & The Good, written today, really just a first version, largely unedited. It's part of a phone call between Ice and Bradley and Ice has just told Bradley that he has cancer. 

“Bradley?” 

“Sorry, I-” 

“It's okay.” 

Another sniff. “Thanks for telling me.” 

“Of course. You deserve to know.” He's weighing his next words for a moment. “You're still as good as a son to me. I had to tell you.” 

And that is true. He and Sarah had even signed papers making them his legal guardians in case anything had happened to Mav. It had never come to use but that Mav had asked them to do it had meant a lot to him. The trust he had always put into him still astounds him today. 

“I'm sorry, Ice… I… I should've… I shouldn't have…” he's sobbing 

Ice swallows, closes his eyes - and sees the fourteen-year-old boy who's lost his mom not even half a year ago and is forced to live with his godfather’s best friend's family. A man he's only seen a couple of times in his life and a woman who's a stranger to him, plus a first grader and a baby. Not exactly the company you'd want for a teenager but so much better than any feasible alternative. 

He sees the boy who lost his father because of him, because of this one damned hop. That alone had been enough to immediately say yes without even consulting Sarah when Mav had asked him for the first time if Bradley could stay with them until Mav came back from his deployment. 

He sees the boy who wakes up screaming and shivering and crying at night from being haunted by pictures of the past, from seeing his mom become sick and die over and over again. In ways even more contorted than reality and one nightmare worse than the other. 

And he sees himself, his younger self, again and again sitting on the edge of Bradley’s bed, a cup of tea in one hand and his other resting on Bradley’s back, resting on his sticky because sweat-through pajama top, trying to soothe him. Telling him that he's safe. Telling him that it wasn't his fault that his mom died, that he never possibly could've read the signs. Because nobody could have seen it coming. And he apologizes that he has to stay here now, that Mav can't be here, that he has to deal with living with this family now. 

He sees Bradley apologizing for just being there, for intruding into his family. 

He sees himself sitting against the headboard of Bradley's bed with the boy curled into his side, finally finding back to sleep. 

He sees himself fighting with Sarah because of that. Because he helped the boy find sleep while his own kids were already fast asleep. He never understood her problem with that. 

He sees Bradley babysitting Chris and Amber, sees them becoming friends despite the gigantic age gap. 

He sees Bradley visiting him in his study one Friday afternoon after school, reluctantly asking if a couple of friends could come over, just in general, because they kept asking why they never met up at his place. 

He sees Bradley winning his first little league game and he sees him crying his eyes out because his first crush told him that he’s disgusting because he's into girls and boys. 

He sees himself cheering over that win and he sees himself comforting Bradley and telling him that there's absolutely nothing wrong with him and that he'll find somebody much, much better. 

He sees Bradley telling him that he's thinking about joining the Navy and he sees Mav telling him that Bradley has left.

Another Prologue to...

Hello there, and Happy New Year!

It's hard to believe it's been a whole month since the conclusion to Riddle of Magic! For those of you who were waiting to begin your lessons after the story had concluded, you can now binge the entire saga here!

But what's next?

Well, there are still more Charlastor stories to tell, both in the Riddle-verse and beyond!

While the main Riddle series has reached a conclusion, across the Horizon of the Umbral Sea, another adventure awaits! I'm excited to announce that the next chapter of Relative Horizons is tentatively scheduled to release February 16th - just in time for that story to celebrate its own 1-year anniversary, with the conclusion to arrive March 9th!

After that, we're back to analyzing the Rumor Spectrum with a hopefully monthly release beginning April 6th!

Of course, much of the release schedule for these tales depends on the status of my largest project, a story that's been waiting for Charlie and Alastor's tale to conclude.

White Soul is coming soon - however, for exciting reasons I can't elaborate on, I can't offer a specific release date ✨yet✨. But I can show a little sneak peek into the creative process for it, and show a tiny preview of just how far it's come!

Writing Update

It has been an exhausting week and a half back at work. It really felt like I had no time for anything other than work and sleep. Thankfully, I did manage to squeeze in some writing here and there.

I am happy to report that I have added another 4k words to chapter two and I am tentatively on track for an end of January release. I want to release a 20k word update (at minimum) for the end of the month.

If I really dedicate myself this weekend, it should be possible. I'm still unsure about some sections I have written but I suppose that is where my beta readers will come in and help me polish.

✨ blog & writing & life update ✨

I haven't been here for a few weeks, but it was the best decision of my life: focusing on what's important helped me calm down and finish all the tasks I set for myself. My husband defended his doctoral thesis, and I finished my little book. The experiences and thoughts related to pregnancy inspired me to create illustrations in which I reflect how I see our parental roles: the characters look like me and my husband. Below you have an example of what it looks like inside.

My pregnancy is progressing well; my belly is already visible and I can feel the baby moving. It's a strange and magical feeling to know that there's another life inside you that's trying to communicate with you in this way. We still don't know the gender, but on February 11th we have an ultrasound where we should officially find out how things are going. We are so excited: if it's a girl, we'll name her Łucja (Lucy), and if it's a boy, we'll name him Ignacy (Ignatius).

My husband is suffering because he's sick and we're isolated in two different rooms. Seeing me pregnant has awakened a kink in him that he clearly wasn't aware of and he has to touch me all the time: not that I'm complaining. My libido hasn't decreased at all during pregnancy, so I'm happy to hear his words of excitement and observations about how my body is changing and how much it arouses him *cough* *breeding kink*.

Am I still writing? Yes! I'm working on a oneshot set in The Price of Pride universe, the one where Lady Royce meets Aemond as a child. It'll be a long, self-contained story, and a gift to celebrate my two years here. I'm writing very slowly, but because of the lack of pressure I don't care too much about it and I'm building it up into a whole piece by piece. I don't know when I'll be able to finish it yet, but I'll definitely publish it. I'm still on hiatus, but I want you to know that you have something to look forward to!
