#Wrath Month

im expecting a lot of "pride month is over, now it's time for wrath month" posts. that's cool and all. but july is disability pride month.

pride month is when you're SUPPOSED to be angry. it's a celebration AND a riot. that was the best time to get angry. second best time is now. but it's not wrath month. let disabled people have this.

please get angry with us. please fight with us! we are both losing our rights, if we ever even had them to begin with. please don't talk over us, especially during our own pride month.

did you know over 10,000 people die a year while waiting to be told whether or not they can receive disability benefits?

did you know while being provided disability benefits, disabled people cannot have more than $2,000 total in their bank account? the average rent for an apartment in the united states, as of last month, is $1,995. per month.

while they want to kill queer people, they want to kill disabled people just as bad. please look out for your disabled friends and family. please look out for those of us who don't have friends and family. those of us who are out on the streets.

There's so much wrong with "everyone is a little bit autistic"

Yes, allistic people might know a lot of facts about the things they like. Yes, allistic people might get a bit overwhelmed or underwhelmed sometimes. Yes, allistic people might not get an expression sometimes, mostly if it's the first time they hear it.

That doesn't make them autistic.

Those traits only make someone autistic when they become disabling. Because, big shock, autism is a disability. Yeah, even if someone is low support needs, because that doesn't mean they don't need any support at all.

Saying "everyone is a little bit autistic" is like saying "everyone struggles with this, so suck it up, you have no right to need help". Which is just pure ableist bullshit. It denies the fact that autistic people have higher support needs than NTs, no matter where in the autistic spectrum they are. We're not "neurospicy", we're disabled, and denying this fact is denying us the right to get the help we need, we deserve, to have a good life.

(yes, this rant is just because I made the awful decision of listening to "neurospicy (interlude)" by Jax. honestly I'd rather be called a slur than listen to that shit again.)

if you have any physical, mental, cognitive, or otherwise difficult or disabling conditions, take a moment this month to consider what helps you, and consider enforcing boundaries that help you.

if you aren't disabled - consider wishing the disabled people in your life a happy disability month, and check in with what they would like you to do better on. additionally, consider checking out a book on disability rights and history at your local public library, whether in person or via an app such as Libby.

In honor of July coming up I have my own disability pride month post.

Disabled people feel free to add on. Abled people can reblog.

If you add r slur discourse to this post I will block you. I am not interested.

Please remember to be normal around those with facial differences. It’s okay to look for a moment ( brains are super good at spotting differences ) but don’t gawk and absolutely don’t ask about it.

Do not use the word “Cripple” or “Crip” or “Cripplepunk” if you are able bodied.

Not all forms of autism are palatable. Do not judge those who have melt downs, who lack a filter or are weird. We are more common than you’d think.

Be kind to those experiencing delusions. And those who are involved with the justice system while experiencing mental and physical disabilities.

Remember that substance use disorders are a real mental health concern. They can not be cured through morality. Instead social, psychological and biological factors need to be addressed. Leave the word “junkie” behind and remove it from your lexicon.

Not all disabilities are visible. Even if you notice that someone isn’t using a mobility aid and is still using the elevator or is walking slower than “acceptable” or sitting on the bus, that they may have something going on.

Be considerate to those who need plain text without typing quirks and in general typing quirks can cause issues with screen readers, don’t be an ass.

Finally, if you are not disabled do not apply for ESAs. ESAs are incredibly important parts to some treatment plans especially for animals that cannot be certified as service animals. In my case mine allows me to finish out university at the dorms because of her helping me out with getting out of bed.
