a letter to the boy i grew up with:
the passage of time is a concept i’ll never truly understand, what i do know is one direction have been one of my greatest loves and special interests for a long long period of said time. i grew up with liam, his face and his voice is as familiar to me as family. i’m a patch quilt of my greatest passions and experiences that inform who i am now as an adult, and one direction are some of the most integral threads, woven between an overwhelming abundance of memories spanning the last 14 years. my environment is a scrapbook of the many things i dedicate my time to loving wholeheartedly, and now everywhere i look i’m surrounded my memorabilia of him. the posters litering my walls, the 1d mug my friends got me for my 1d themed birthday years ago, the 1d notebook i turned into a cookbook full of exactly three recipes that i’ve alternated between every night for years that i have open on my counter every time i cook despite knowing the recipes like muscle memory, just so it can be splashed with ingredients and become torn and tattered and used and loved, jewellery, books, concert dvds, tour programmes, an unfinished 1d painting lying discarded on my floor, and of course the 1d vinyls i got that started my collection which has since spawned into 80+ records spanning a vast discography of music that 1d opened me up to. liam is a powerhouse of vocals and lyrics, the grounding presence the band could not exist without. and so i mourn the person i’ll never get to see him heal and grow into, i mourn the band i’ll never see or listen to the same again, and i celebrate the boy i grew up with and the things he’s achieved with that band. i still shimmy like leeroy every time i put on a headband. i hope you are warm and at peace, rest easy lad. Always in my heart payno <3

Come on man, let me take you to my grandparents house. No, not THAT one. The house down the street from the public park. The brick house with the porch swing. Yeah no the one where you always hear wind chimes when you’re in the yard. The one with the old creaky floorboards that somehow always sound friendly. The house that feels like the personification of being a little kid falling asleep while you hear people laughing in another room. The one that smells faintly of cigarettes and aromatherapy and a hint of weed. Bro I’m talking about the one where you always hear some sort of old music playing in another room, and it’s such a tangy and savory and lively beat that you can feel it faintly shaking in the walls and the floorboards and the very air you are breathing. The one with the beautiful stained wood staircase. With all the abstract art? Yes, the one with all those cactuses and flowers in the flowerbed in the back yard, the backyard that’s surrounded by a wooden fence? The one with the lawn that’s always perfectly manicured. Yeah with the screen door on the back snaps shut loudly but somehow the sound feels like a hug. The one with the big basement, that had a small shrine to Marilyn Monroe and a big leather couch and a table for playing cards? The one that has the bathroom with the pink tiled walls and the black tiled floors with the big bathtub. Yeah you know how that bathroom has the mini vinyl records hanging on the wall? With the air conditioning that seems to be working perfectly all the time. I love how grandma has those cut glass ornaments hanging in the kitchen window. Remember when grandpa went up to those and spun them and we tried to catch the rainbows they flashed on the walls thinking they were fairies? I miss that. The kitchen was beautiful, with the multicolored tiles on the wall and the woven rugs. Grandma was always keeping that kitchen so clean. Yeah the one with the cement patio in the back yard that grandma kept so clean that she could bring out that popcorn machine and pop popcorn with the lid off and we’d try to catch it in our mouths and whatever ones we missed we could pick up off the ground and eat because we trusted that it was clean. Grandpa was always the best with the grill. Whenever you are in the kitchen or the back yard you can hear ice clinking up against the edges of a cup of iced green tea. The one with the grand piano that was almost never used. Yeah we could stay in my aunts old room, the light green one, with the big bed and the quilts, and the vanity desk that had the pretty beaded lamp. When we stay in that one you can crack the window and hear the outside evening while we get our pajamas on. Or if you prefer we could stay in my uncles old room, the beige-yellow one with the sports art on the wall. You can crack the window and hear the outside with that one, too, and you might have a better view, but for some reason I’ve never been able to sleep all that well in that room. The house where there is always at least one light on. The one with the red dining room that has that one silly Coney Island poster on the wall. Yeah with that big stained wood dining table? Though no matter how big that table was grandma and grandpa always had to put out another folding table in the living room. Yeah the living room, with the big windows that showed the street? And the fireplace, and the couch with the crochet blankets. And the wicker rocking chair that I was forbidden to sit in after a certain age. Yes, my grandparents house. The one that the whole family loves. Let’s go there.

Some very rudimentary sketches of Perihelion’s interior.
I wanted the hatch to have a very distinctive look to it, and I couldn’t help but envision an archway as something evocative of a university building.
My thought is that corporate ships would have a very utilitarian design with a lot of hard, uncomfortable angles, stiff plastic and vinyl furniture, harsh fluorescent overheads, and zero character or warmth. Things that are cheap to replace and cheap to clean.
In contrast, because ART was “raised from a child,” I thought that its shipwrights might have put more care into their work and included some more architectural details, like arched hatches, which aren’t necessarily economical but are just kind of nice. The hatches are mentioned as sliding closed, so I envision the doors sliding down from the ceiling and taking up a much bigger space than the doorway—possibly even the entire wall for a section like this.
I also put indirect lighting that would run along the lower edge of all the ceilings, although this is just a flat view of the end of a hallway. The ceilings seemingly extend further than the walls to account for this, and I think the same space could also be used for concealed air vents and speakers. There would also be sconce lighting along the walls, but I haven’t made up my mind on how to depict them yet.
I think ART would have processes that adjust the color temperature of the lighting throughout a cycle in order to mimic the feeling of planetary daylight—at least when its humans are onboard (and sometimes it may passive-aggressively dim the lights when someone refuses to sleep). I think it would only have overhead lights in task related areas like the lab module and Medical. I don’t think MB would even notice this. But more sensory friendly lighting would be something that makes MB more comfortable on onboard ART even realizing why.
ART would also have small directional spotlights that it can point in people’s faces when it feels like being a particular ass.
I also drew up my idea for the padded couches in the crew lounge. I wanted wide, curved arms that would be comfortable to rest a head or back against. The fabric is a thick, woven material as opposed to the creaky vinyl of a corporate couch, and the padding is firm enough to provide good support (like a 6+ inch seat cushion as opposed to a 3 or 4 or god forbid a 2 inch cushion).
Multiple characters are mentioned as sleeping here, so I think it should be a comfortable, nappable couch without being a couch that is difficult to get up from in a hurry.
One thing I thought would be interesting is if the piping on the cushions used the same “space velcro” tech as sealable pockets, so all of the cushions would sit completely flush against each other. That way you could prevent objects or crumbs from getting stuck inside the couch, while also still having the benefit of individual cushions that are easier to repair or replace than the entire couch. Yes, I did spend my day off thinking about the piping on a fictional couch.
I also included some pylon things along the back of the couch in order to give some visual rhythm to the silhouette, since it’s so long. Honestly anything could be done with these, like having a touchscreen for whatever spaceship purposes, but I thought it would be nice to have some concealed speakers covered in acoustical mesh fabric. There’s still speakers along the ceiling in this room, but the couch speakers would be for the display surfaces rather than ART’s voice, since it can be confusing for some ppl to process multiple outputs coming from the same source. Also I think ART should have nice quality speakers in general, rather than the flat, tinny sort of wall speakers that are common in ship designs.
The toeboard of the couch is made from a sort of antique bronze material. The finishes that I generally associate ART with are titanium for practical purposes, and bronze for aesthetic touches.
The floor looks like wood but it’s a very durable, recycled composite material. I wanted the floor in this room to be a darker, more grounding color since it’s a lounge, but most of the ship probably has floors closer to the color of the walls.
The opposite side of the room has four chairs in the same style as this. I also drew the folding tables, so I might post those later. There’s a lot of other spaces I want to design as well, but I’ll have to see what I have time/energy for.
Anyways thanks if you read through all of this. I don’t generally draw unless I’m sketching a design for something I’m making. And I’m certainly not an actual designer, I just enjoy thinking about these kinds of things. And these are just my thoughts on what I think these things could look like. That’s all.

“5 Decor Changes That Instantly Make Your Home Look More Luxurious”
Creating a luxurious ambiance in your home doesn’t always require a massive budget or a professional overhaul. With a few strategic decor changes, you can elevate the look and feel of your space, making it stylish and opulent. Below are five easy and effective decor tips that will transform your home instantly.
1. Incorporate High-Quality Textiles
Nothing says luxury like plush fabrics and high-quality materials. Upgrade your cushions, throws, and curtains with premium fabrics like velvet, silk, or cashmere. Opt for rich textures and elegant patterns to create a sophisticated vibe. If you’re looking for expert guidance on textile choices, consult an interior design professional who can recommend options tailored to your space.
Quick Tip: Layer your textiles for added depth. For example, drape a cashmere throw over a velvet armchair or mix silk and linen pillows on your sofa.
2. Add Statement Lighting
Lighting plays a pivotal role in setting the tone of any room. Replace generic fixtures with statement lighting pieces such as crystal chandeliers, sculptural floor lamps, or elegant pendant lights. The right lighting not only enhances the functionality of a space but also acts as a piece of art. An interior design expert can help you choose lighting fixtures that align with your home’s aesthetic.
Quick Tip: Use dimmer switches to control light intensity and create a warm, inviting atmosphere.
3. Invest in Art and Decorative Accents
Art and decor pieces add personality and a sense of sophistication to your home. Choose large-scale artwork, unique sculptures, or timeless decorative accents that resonate with your style. Incorporating a curated gallery wall or a single dramatic piece can make a bold statement. For tailored recommendations, seek advice from an interior design specialist who understands how to blend art with your home’s theme.
Quick Tip: Mix high-end and affordable art to create a balanced yet luxurious look.
4. Declutter and Organize
A clutter-free home instantly feels more polished and luxurious. Invest in stylish storage solutions like woven baskets, chic boxes, or built-in cabinetry to keep your space organized. A minimalist approach to furniture and decor ensures your home feels open and airy. Collaborate with an interior design professional to create storage solutions that are both functional and visually appealing.
Quick Tip: Use mirrored or glass furniture to reflect light and make rooms appear more spacious.
5. Upgrade Your Flooring
Floors are often overlooked, but they have a significant impact on the overall aesthetic of your home. Consider upgrading to hardwood, marble, or luxury vinyl flooring for a sleek and elegant finish. If a full renovation isn’t feasible, add high-quality area rugs to elevate the look of your existing floors. Consult an interior design expert for flooring options that suit your budget and style.
Quick Tip: Layer rugs for added texture and dimension, especially in living and bedroom areas.
Transforming your home into a luxurious haven is easier than you think with these decor tips. For personalized advice and professional assistance, explore the services offered by Kasapros, your go-to resource for exceptional interior design solutions. The Art of Layering Textures with Luxury Vinyl Flooring Patterns
Interior design is about creating spaces that are not only visually appealing but also engaging to the senses. One of the most effective ways to achieve this is by layering textures—a technique that adds depth, warmth, and personality to any room. Luxury vinyl flooring (LVT) patterns have emerged as a versatile tool for texture layering, offering a variety of finishes, styles, and designs that complement diverse aesthetics. Whether you're crafting a cozy living room or a sleek kitchen, LVT provides the perfect foundation for exploring texture-rich interiors.
Understanding Texture in Design
Texture refers to the surface quality of materials, which can be perceived visually or through touch. In interior design, layering textures creates contrast and harmony, making a space feel dynamic and inviting. Luxury vinyl flooring, with its ability to mimic wood, stone, and tile, offers endless possibilities for adding visual and tactile interest.
Why Luxury Vinyl Flooring is Perfect for Texture Layering
Luxury vinyl flooring is an excellent choice for texture layering for several reasons:
Variety of Finishes: Available in woodgrain, stone-effect, and tile-look finishes, LVT mimics natural materials with remarkable accuracy.
Durability: Its wear-resistant surface allows for versatile styling without compromising functionality.
Affordability: Compared to genuine wood or stone, LVT offers a cost-effective way to introduce premium textures into your home.
Ease of Installation: Click-lock and glue-down options make it easy to incorporate into your design plans.
Textural Elements in LVT Patterns
Luxury vinyl flooring can replicate a range of materials, each contributing unique textures to your space.
1. Wood-Look LVT
Mimicking the grains, knots, and tones of natural wood, wood-look LVT is perfect for adding warmth and authenticity.
Rustic Charm: Reclaimed wood patterns provide a distressed texture that pairs beautifully with industrial or farmhouse decor.
Smooth Elegance: Sleek oak or maple designs lend a refined touch to modern or minimalist interiors.
2. Stone-Effect LVT
Stone-look vinyl brings an earthy, natural texture to interiors, suitable for both traditional and contemporary styles.
Marble: A polished marble effect adds luxury and sophistication to bathrooms and entryways.
Slate: Rougher textures mimic slate’s rugged appeal, ideal for kitchens or outdoor-inspired spaces.
3. Tile-Look LVT
Perfectly replicating ceramic or porcelain, tile-look LVT patterns add a clean and structured texture.
Matte Finishes: Ideal for understated elegance in minimalist designs.
Glossy Patterns: Reflective surfaces bring vibrancy and a sense of space to smaller rooms.
How to Layer Textures with LVT Flooring
1. Pairing LVT with Rugs
Soft and Hard Contrast: Lay plush area rugs or textured runners over wood-look or stone-look LVT to create contrast and coziness.
Patterned Rugs: Add visual complexity by pairing simple LVT designs with bold, patterned rugs.
2. Mixing Textures in Furniture and Decor
Wood and Metal: Combine woodgrain LVT with metallic decor for an industrial-chic aesthetic.
Natural Materials: Pair stone-effect LVT with woven baskets, linen throws, or leather furniture for an organic vibe.
3. Incorporating Wall Finishes
Shiplap or Paneling: Pair wood-look LVT with painted shiplap walls to enhance a coastal or farmhouse theme.
Stone Walls: Complement stone-effect vinyl with exposed brick or textured plaster for a rustic appeal.
4. Lighting for Texture Emphasis
Directional Lighting: Use floor lamps or spotlights to highlight the textures in your LVT flooring and decor.
Warm Bulbs: Enhance the grain and depth of wood-look or stone-effect LVT with warm, ambient lighting.
Room-Specific Ideas for Layering with LVT
Living Room
Choose a wood-look LVT in a rich oak or walnut finish, layering it with a large woven rug and velvet-upholstered furniture. Add throw pillows in varying textures—like wool, cotton, and faux fur—for a cozy, layered look.
Kitchen
Opt for stone-effect LVT in a slate or marble pattern. Pair it with matte black cabinets and stainless-steel appliances for a modern aesthetic. Introduce texture through woven barstool seating or a ceramic backsplash.
Bedroom
Select a smooth, light-toned wood-look LVT for the flooring. Layer with a soft area rug under the bed and linen bedding for a serene and tactile retreat. Accent the space with a knitted throw or rattan decor.
Bathroom
Marble-effect LVT can set the tone for luxury. Add fluffy towels, a wooden vanity, and metal fixtures for a textural interplay of soft, hard, and smooth elements.
Tips for Successful Texture Layering
Balance is Key: Avoid overwhelming the space with too many textures. Let one or two standout elements take center stage.
Stay Cohesive: Use a consistent colour palette to unify the textures and maintain harmony in the design.
Scale and Proportion: Ensure textural elements vary in size to avoid monotony and enhance visual interest.
Experiment: Don’t be afraid to mix unexpected materials—like pairing sleek LVT with rough-hewn furniture—for a unique look.
The Sensory Impact of Texture
Layering textures goes beyond visual aesthetics; it creates an environment that engages multiple senses. The soft feel of a plush rug against the smooth surface of LVT flooring, for instance, adds a tactile element that makes a room feel welcoming and complete.
Overall, it may be said
Luxury vinyl flooring patterns provide a versatile and practical foundation for exploring the art of texture layering. From rustic wood grains to sleek marble finishes, LVT offers endless possibilities for creating dynamic, textured spaces that reflect your personal style. By pairing LVT with complementary materials and thoughtfully chosen decor, you can design interiors that are not only beautiful but also rich in character and sensory appeal. Embrace the transformative power of texture and let luxury vinyl flooring be the cornerstone of your next design project.

nerding out about dragon age again sorry (a little)(feel free to scroll)
so I doubt we'll ever see robust dlc and hopeful-but-squinting that we'll ever get another DA (maybe probably possibly one set at the end of the century, at least) but I'm still stoked at the prospect because just based on natural evolution of base technology and not even accounting for Ms. Bianca Davri, with maybe a little fudging for the allowance of magic, Thedas is on the verge of a technological revolution which will, of course, change everything BUT ALSO should maybe, possibly, bring such answers as: why the fuck are the outer seas/oceans such a barrier to exploration? where are the kossith+humans from? what 'calamity' struck overseas? what happens when we give Antivan Crows fucking pistols? how fast can lyrium trains go? (I mean, if we ... get those answers).
Currently we're roundabouts "Golden Age of Piracy", just without a couple of the key things that allowed for it (namely, better navigational tools popularized and made difficult voyages easier), and seeing Northern Thedas really just confirms we're bursting at the seams here for an explosion of invention likely courtesy of Bianca and Dagna and Dorian and others. Hell, we've got smokeless coal, that's a hell of a great start.
So anyways
Clocks everywhere, starts as a fad for the rich and quickly filters down to basic pocketwatches (actually may be a bit late for this just based on Orlais, but this 'clocks are rare, dwarves may use waterclocks' is ridiculous by now). Highly complicated (and magical!) navigational tools for difficult sea voyages. Somewhere soon surely education expands beyond the Circles/elites to the general populace in some way. Early, heavy (steam? Lyrium? Combo? Something else?) machines, and related labor. The introduction of early en-masse production, and its affects on handmade artisan products and markets (less demand, dwindles/outmuscles supply; higher prices, forgotten skills?). Agricultural revolution, especially Ferelden, after the Davri machine (seed?? iirc?) surely further basic farming machines. Fertilizers. Plumbing!! at least early rickety wooden scaffolded slapdash networks, but moderately reliable and fairly universal at least in cities, etc etc etc.
Depending on how far we wanna stretch it or fill in the gaps with magic, other reasonable inventions that could/should happen relatively soon: firearms; cameras; indoor lighting whether gas or magic; bicycles; boilers; machine-woven linens; steel architecture; early motion pictures; indoor environmental control (heated floors/radiators, hand-crank or however-powered fans) ; personal vehicles; barges; typewriters; fountain pens; printing press/magical mass materials reproduction/whatever idk newspapers and magazines and pamphlets everywhere, explosion in fiction and the general written word; wax recordings and vinyl records!!! leisure music!!!
just!!! one teensy tiny little nudge, just a decade or two or five, and all of Thedas is wholly different. And this isn't even touching on potential sociopolitically-driven inventions, spurred by war and necessity, this is just what's feasibly in range based on current utd Thedas canon, and the simple early explorations of physicists and chemists (and farmers and everyday people) and those resulting inventions are surely within reach of mages playing with and inventing fucking time magic.
Idk but if there are any other DA nerds who are also into this kind of shit please bounce ideas at /correct me because I'm too hobbyist to really get deep into this as it deserves but just. !!! I want to !!!! put the entirety of Thedas in a tupperware and. shake it

Combining Black and White Floor Patterns with Contemporary Décor
Black and white floor patterns are timeless, offering a striking contrast that perfectly complements contemporary décor. From geometric designs to bold checkerboards, these patterns can act as a statement piece or provide a versatile backdrop for your modern interiors. Here’s how to seamlessly integrate black and white flooring with your contemporary design style.
Start by choosing the right flooring pattern. Checkerboard tiles are a classic option that can evoke a retro or modern vibe depending on how they’re styled. For a more subtle and sophisticated look, opt for herringbone or chevron patterns in black and white. Geometric designs such as hexagons or diamonds add a touch of visual intrigue and are ideal for minimalist or industrial spaces.
When combining black and white floors with contemporary décor, consider your colour palette. Keep walls neutral to let the flooring shine—white, grey, or even soft beige tones work well. If you prefer a bold approach, an accent wall in a vibrant colour like teal, mustard, or emerald green can create a dramatic contrast while maintaining balance.
Furniture selection plays a crucial role in enhancing the overall aesthetic. Choose sleek, modern furniture with clean lines and minimalist designs. Materials like metal, glass, and polished wood pair beautifully with black and white floors. For added warmth, incorporate natural textures such as woven baskets, jute rugs, or leather chairs.
Layering is key to softening the boldness of black and white flooring. Rugs can help define spaces and add a layer of comfort. Choose rugs with subtle patterns or solid colours that don’t compete with the floor design. Monochromatic or neutral rugs in shades of grey, cream, or taupe can balance the room while maintaining a cohesive look.
Lighting is another important consideration. Use contemporary light fixtures like pendant lights, track lighting, or floor lamps with sleek finishes. Black or chrome accents on lighting fixtures can tie in with the floor pattern, while warm bulbs create a welcoming atmosphere.
Artwork and decorative accents allow for personalization. Black-and-white photography, abstract art, or metallic sculptures enhance the contemporary feel. For a touch of vibrancy, add pops of colour through throw pillows, vases, or books. These accents can be easily updated to refresh the space without altering the flooring.
Black and white floors work well in open-concept spaces. Use them to delineate different areas, such as the kitchen, dining, or living spaces, while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic. In smaller rooms, these patterns can make the space feel larger when paired with strategically placed mirrors.
Maintenance is straightforward with black and white flooring, especially with vinyl or tile options. Regular sweeping and mopping keep the surfaces pristine, while the high-contrast design hides minor scuffs and dirt.
By thoughtfully combining black and white floor patterns with contemporary décor, you can create an interior that is both timeless and modern. This bold flooring choice adds character and sophistication, ensuring your space stands out with style.

How to Choose the Perfect Carpet for Your Home Installation
When it comes to enhancing the comfort and aesthetic appeal of your home, choosing the right carpet is crucial. At Superior Custom Flooring, we understand that selecting the perfect carpet can be a daunting task, given the plethora of options available. This guide will walk you through the key factors to consider, ensuring your carpet installation is a seamless and rewarding experience.
Tumblr media
1. Understand Your Lifestyle
Before diving into styles and colors, consider your lifestyle. Do you have pets or small children? If so, you’ll want a carpet that can withstand heavy foot traffic and is easy to clean. Look for durable materials and stain-resistant options. If your household is quieter, you might prioritize comfort and style over durability.
2. Choose the Right Material
The material of your carpet plays a significant role in its durability, maintenance, and feel. Here are some popular options:
Nylon: Known for its resilience, nylon is perfect for high-traffic areas. It resists wear and tear and comes in a variety of styles and colors.
Polyester: This material offers a soft feel and vibrant colors. It’s more affordable but may not be as durable as nylon.
Wool: A natural option that provides warmth and comfort, wool carpets are hypoallergenic and incredibly durable but can be more expensive.
Berber: Ideal for busy households, Berber carpets are tightly woven and resistant to stains.
Consider how each material aligns with your lifestyle and preferences.
3. Color and Style Selection
The color and style of your carpet can dramatically influence your home’s ambiance. Here are some tips:
Light Colors: These can make a room feel more spacious but may show dirt and stains more easily.
Dark Colors: They tend to hide stains and can create a cozy atmosphere but may make a room feel smaller.
Patterns: A patterned carpet can add visual interest and hide wear, making it ideal for high-traffic areas.
Consider your existing décor and how the carpet will complement your home’s overall look.
4. Padding Matters
Never underestimate the importance of carpet padding. The right padding enhances comfort, extends the life of your carpet, and provides better insulation. Look for padding that suits your carpet type and your installation area. For example, a thicker pad may be ideal for bedrooms, while a denser pad can be beneficial in high-traffic areas.
5. Professional Installation
While some homeowners may consider DIY carpet installation, hiring professionals can ensure a flawless finish. Superior Custom Flooring offers expert carpet installation services, guaranteeing that your carpet is laid correctly and efficiently. This is essential to prevent wrinkles and prolong the carpet’s lifespan.
6. Explore Other Flooring Options
If you’re renovating or building, you might also consider other flooring types alongside carpet. Tile installation, hardwood flooring, and luxury vinyl planks offer excellent alternatives, each with unique benefits. For instance, hardwood flooring adds elegance and value to your home, while luxury vinyl planks provide a durable and water-resistant option. Our team can help you decide if combining these styles with carpet in different areas of your home is best.
7. Consult with Experts
Finally, consult with flooring experts who can guide you through the selection process. At Superior Custom Flooring, we specialize in Chester County flooring solutions and can help you find the ideal carpet for your home. Our experienced team will walk you through your options, providing samples and insights tailored to your specific needs.
Conclusion
Choosing the perfect carpet for your home installation involves careful consideration of your lifestyle, material, color, style, and professional support. At Superior Custom Flooring, we are dedicated to helping you make informed decisions that elevate your living space. Whether you're looking for plush carpet, elegant hardwood flooring, or trendy luxury vinyl planks, our team is here to assist you every step of the way. While standard tarps may be suitable for light protection, such as covering a picnic table during a rainstorm, super heavy-duty tarps are designed for demanding tasks. They are often used in construction, agriculture, outdoor events, and even emergencies where protection from harsh weather or debris is critical.
These tarps are characterized by:
High thickness (mil): Typically 12-20 mil (1 mil = 0.001 inches).
Heavy-duty grommets: Usually made from brass or rust-resistant metal.
Reinforced corners: These are for added strength when securing.
UV protection: Designed to resist degradation from sun exposure.
Waterproof or water-resistant coating: Provides complete protection from moisture.
High-density material: Often made from polyethylene or vinyl, ensuring durability and resistance to tears, punctures, and abrasions.
Common Uses for Super Heavy Duty Tarps in Columbus
Given the diverse weather in Columbus, from hot summers to cold winters, super heavy-duty tarps are used year-round for a variety of purposes, including:
Construction site cover: Protecting building materials, machinery, and work areas.
Roofing projects: Temporary cover during repairs.
Emergency shelter: Provides rapid protection from storms, snow, or wind.
Agricultural uses: Protecting crops, hay bales, or equipment on farms.
Truck bed cover: Securing and covering goods during transportation.
Temporary outdoor flooring: For events, fairs, or gatherings.
Pool cover: Preventing debris from entering a pool during the off-season.
Key Factors to Consider When Choosing Super Heavy Duty Tarps
1. Material Type
The material of your tarp is one of the most important factors to consider, as it will dictate its durability, weight, and performance in various conditions. There are several materials to choose from:
a. Polyethylene (PE) Tarps
Polyethylene tarps are some of the most common types of super heavy-duty tarps. They are made from woven and laminated layers of polyethylene, which makes them both lightweight and extremely durable. Key features of PE tarps include:
Waterproof: These tarps are fully waterproof and are excellent for outdoor use.
UV-resistant: They protect against sun exposure and can prevent fading or degradation.
Tear-resistant: Their construction makes them resistant to rips and tears, even in high winds or heavy use.
b. Vinyl (PVC) Tarps
Vinyl tarps, also known as PVC tarps, are thicker and heavier than polyethylene tarps. They are made from polyvinyl chloride and are ideal for more demanding applications. Features include:
High durability: Vinyl tarps are resistant to punctures, abrasion, and chemicals.
Fire-retardant options: Some vinyl tarps come with fire-retardant coatings, making them suitable for industrial or high-heat applications.
Heavyweight: Vinyl tarps tend to be heavier, which can make them more stable in windy conditions but harder to maneuver.
c. Canvas Tarps
Canvas tarps are made from heavy-duty cotton fabric and are often used for more rugged applications. While they are less common than polyethylene or vinyl tarps, they have some distinct advantages:
Breathability: Canvas tarps allow moisture to evaporate, making them ideal for covering items that need airflow, such as firewood.
Eco-friendly: Made from natural fibers, canvas tarps are biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
Not fully waterproof: While canvas tarps are water-resistant, they are not entirely waterproof like polyethylene or vinyl.
2. Tarp Thickness (Mil)
The thickness of a tarp is measured in mils, where 1 mil equals 0.001 inches. Super heavy-duty tarps typically range from 12 to 20 mil in thickness, with thicker tarps offering greater strength and durability.
a. 12-15 Mil Tarps
Suitable for moderate to heavy use.
Ideal for covering vehicles, and equipment, or using as a tent or canopy.
Easier to handle and install due to their relatively lightweight nature.
b. 16-20 Mil Tarps
Designed for the most demanding applications, such as construction site coverage, roofing, or long-term outdoor use.
Extremely resistant to punctures, tears, and abrasions.
Can handle harsh weather conditions, including heavy rain, snow, or wind.
3. Waterproof vs. Water-Resistant
When selecting a tarp, it's essential to determine whether you need it to be fully waterproof or simply water-resistant.
a. Waterproof Tarps
Waterproof tarps are completely impervious to moisture and are ideal for applications where total protection from rain or snow is necessary. This includes roofing, construction sites, and transportation of goods.
b. Water-Resistant Tarps
Water-resistant tarps can repel water to some extent, but they are not entirely waterproof. These are better suited for temporary coverings or situations where some airflow is beneficial, like covering firewood.
4. Size of the Tarp
The size of the tarp you choose will depend on the specific job you need it for. Tarps come in a wide range of sizes, from small 5’ x 7’ tarps to massive 100’ x 100’ covers. Consider the following:
Measure your space: Before purchasing, measure the area you need to cover, and choose a tarp that provides adequate overlap for securing.
Consider storage and portability: Larger tarps can be heavy and difficult to store. If you need a portable tarp, opt for a size that balances coverage with ease of handling.
5. Grommet Placement and Quality
Grommets are metal rings that are placed around the edges of a tarp, allowing you to tie it down securely. For super heavy-duty tarps, the grommets should be made of rust-resistant metal, like brass or aluminum, and placed every 18-36 inches along the edges. This spacing ensures that the tarp can be evenly secured, preventing it from tearing in high winds or harsh weather.
6. UV Protection
If you’re using the tarp outdoors, UV protection is essential, especially during the summer months when Columbus experiences intense sun. UV-resistant tarps are coated to block harmful rays, which not only protects the tarp from degradation but also shields whatever you're covering from sun damage.
7. Fire Retardant Coatings
For industrial or construction use, especially in environments where heat or open flames may be present, choosing a tarp with a fire-retardant coating is critical. Fire-retardant tarps can prevent the spread of flames and are required by safety regulations in many work environments.
8. Color Considerations
The color of your tarp may seem like a minor detail, but it can have practical implications depending on the application:
Silver or white tarps: These reflect sunlight and are ideal for keeping areas cooler during the summer months.
Blue or green tarps: These colors are common for general-purpose use and tend to blend into outdoor environments.
Brown or camouflage tarps: Great for covering items in nature without standing out.
Black tarps: Absorb heat and are useful for applications where you want to dry out items or keep heat contained.
Specific Applications for Super Heavy Duty Tarps in Columbus
1. Construction Sites
In Columbus, construction projects are often exposed to unpredictable weather conditions, making super heavy duty tarps a necessity. These tarps can protect tools, machinery, and building materials from rain, snow, or wind, ensuring that the project stays on schedule.
2. Agriculture
Farms in Ohio use super heavy-duty tarps to cover hay bales, protect crops, and shield livestock from the elements. Because these tarps are durable and can withstand exposure to rain, sun, and wind, they are ideal for long-term use in agriculture.
3. Roofing and Home Renovations
When performing roof repairs or renovations, super heavy-duty tarps can provide temporary protection, preventing water from entering your home while work is being completed. The waterproof and UV-resistant properties of these tarps ensure that the interior remains dry, even during heavy storms.
4. Emergency and Disaster Relief
In emergencies, such as after a tornado or severe storm, super heavy-duty tarps create temporary shelters or cover damaged structures. Their ability to withstand harsh weather makes them an essential tool for disaster recovery.
How to Properly Care for Your Super Heavy Duty Tarp
To ensure the longevity of your tarp, it's important to follow these maintenance tips:
1. Cleaning
Clean your tarp regularly, especially after exposure to dirt, chemicals, or heavy rain. Use a mild soap and water solution to wipe away debris. Avoid using harsh chemicals, as they can degrade the material.
2. Storage
When not in use, store your tarp in a cool, dry place. Fold it neatly to avoid creases or tears. Keep it away from direct sunlight to prevent UV damage during storage.
3. Repairing Tears
Small tears or holes can be patched using tarp repair tape or a patch kit. It's important to address any damage immediately to prevent it from worsening.
Final Thoughts
Choosing the best super heavy duty tarp in Columbus depends on understanding your specific needs, from material type and thickness to size and special features. By considering factors like weather resistance, UV protection, and intended use, you can ensure that your tarp will provide reliable protection and long-lasting performance.
Whether you're a homeowner looking to protect outdoor furniture or a contractor securing a job site, investing in the right super heavy-duty tarp will save you time, money, and effort in the long run. Make sure to explore different materials and designs to find the tarp that meets your needs and stands up to the varied weather conditions of Columbus.

A Guide to Bamboo Flooring
Tumblr media
Introduction In recent times, bamboo flooring has increased in popularity. Seen as modern and eco-friendly, bamboo floors combine aesthetic appeal with durability offering style and sustainability. This article will explore the different types of bamboo flooring available, the associated advantages and disadvantages of bamboo flooring and how to clean and maintain your bamboo floor properly. Let’s make a start!   Types of Bamboo Flooring - Solid Bamboo: Made from strips of bamboo glued together, solid bamboo can be laid with horizontal or vertical grains, which affects the floor’s appearance and durability. - Engineered Bamboo: This flooring consists of gluing a bamboo top veneer onto a plywood or fibreboard base. This makes the floor more stable and therefore less likely to warp with temperature and humidity fluctuations. - Strand-Woven Bamboo: This durable flooring is made from compressing shredded bamboo fibres together using an adhesive and high pressure. The result is a hard, dense and durable flooring.   Advantages of Bamboo Flooring - Sustainability: The plant bamboo grows at an incredible rate; some plants can grow up to one metre a day! This means that repopulating plants that are harvested is easy. Also, bamboo plants demand less water than traditional trees used in wooden flooring, such as oak and maple. This also saves our planet’s water resources. Win-win! - Durability: Bamboo is a durable natural material. If you choose a high-quality bamboo flooring (particularly a strand-woven floor), your bamboo floor will last for years and can easily be used in high-traffic areas. - Beauty: Bamboo has natural aesthetic appeal. With natural variations in colour, pattern and texture your bamboo floor will look like a work of art! - Cost: Bamboo flooring usually comes in cheaper than buying real wood or engineered wood floors made from other trees, such as oak and maple. You get that same natural beauty at a fraction of the cost! - Indoor Air Quality: Indoor air quality plays an important role in healthy modern living. Bamboo’s hypoallergenic properties reduce the likelihood of allergens lingering in your living space improving your overall air quality. - Refinishing: Like other wooden floors, bamboo flooring can be refinished. This involves sanding down a tired-looking bamboo floor, then refinishing it with a new top coat polish. This can help extend the lifespan of your bamboo floor.   Disadvantages of Bamboo Flooring - Quality: Like any flooring, if you buy high-quality bamboo flooring then you are in for a beautiful and durable treat! But if you buy cheap bamboo flooring, then some problems may occur. Always choose a high-quality flooring product from a reputable brand. - Moisture: Whilst engineered bamboo floors are more stable, solid bamboo floors are prone to warping with moisture changes. This means that it is best to not use bamboo flooring in bathrooms or kitchens where humidity changes occur. - Manufacturing Process: Whilst bamboo itself is very sustainable as a material, the process of manufacturing bamboo into flooring involves a lot of chemicals (adhesives and finishes). Look to buy bamboo floors with eco-friendly or low-VOC labelling. - Scratches: Whilst durable, bamboo floor is still prone to scratching. The risk of scratching can be reduced by using furniture pads and keeping pets’ claws trimmed, but it is still something to bear in mind. - Cost: Yes, cost was also in the advantages list because bamboo is cheaper than other real wood flooring materials. However, when compared to laminate and luxury vinyl flooring, then bamboo is actually more expensive and therefore not so budget friendly. Hence why cost is on the disadvantages list too.   Cleaning and Maintaining Bamboo Flooring Like all other hard flooring, bamboo floors will benefit from a regular sweeping routine. It is advised not to use a vacuum cleaner on bamboo, as it can scratch the floor. A weekly sweep with a soft-bristled brush should be enough for residential spaces. On top of this sweeping routine, the occasional mop will help keep your bamboo floor looking showroom ready. Tips: use a damp mophead and not a dripping wet one to prevent water damage. Also, use a specific bamboo floor cleaning solution in order to avoid chemically damaging your floor with a harsh cleaner. A bi-weekly or monthly mopping should be plenty for residential spaces. So that is your bamboo cleaning routine. Now in terms of maintenance, a periodic re-sanding and resealing will help breathe new life into tired-looking bamboo floors. Re-sanding involves using a sander to remove the top tired layer of bamboo to reveal a fresh new layer underneath. Resealing involves applying a sealant or polish over the new bamboo surface to recolour and protect it. Some flooring products and professionals recommend resealing your floor every 3-5 years. But in all honesty, you can use your own eyes and wallet to judge when your bamboo flooring could do with a new lease of life and protection through re-sanding and resealing.   Conclusion   So there you have it – a guide to bamboo flooring. This beautiful and natural flooring is taking the flooring and interior design world by storm thanks to its sustainability. There are many advantages to bamboo flooring including beauty, durability, sustainability and cost. That being said there are some associated disadvantages with bamboo flooring, such as quality, moisture, scratches and cost. Thankfully, bamboo flooring is easy to maintain with a regular sweeping and mopping routine. Add to this an occasional re-sanding and resealing and you should have a beautiful, natural floor that you can enjoy for decades. We hope you enjoy your bamboo flooring for years to come! Preparation: The Key to Perfection
Preparation is crucial in Wallpaper Installation in London. It involves more than just selecting the wallpaper; it includes preparing the wall surface and ensuring all tools and materials are ready.
Wall Surface Preparation
Proper wall preparation can make or break a wallpapering project. Follow these steps to prepare the wall surface:
Clean the Walls: Remove any dirt, grease, or dust interfering with the wallpaper's adhesion.
Smooth the Surface: Fill in any cracks or holes with filler, then sand down to create a smooth surface.
Prime the Walls: Apply a primer or a wall liner to ensure the wallpaper adheres well and to prevent the paste from soaking into the wall.
Remove Old Wallpaper: If the walls already have wallpaper, it must be obliterated to avoid lumps and bumps.
Choosing the Right Wallpaper
Selecting the appropriate wallpaper involves considering factors like room function, style preferences, and the wallpaper material. Here's a brief guide:
Paper Wallpaper: Traditional and often the most affordable option, though it can be less durable.
Vinyl Wallpaper: Highly durable and easy to clean, ideal for kitchens and bathrooms.
Non-Woven Wallpaper: Easy to install and remove, suitable for living rooms and bedrooms.
Fabric-Backed Wallpaper: Adds a luxurious texture, perfect for feature walls or upscale settings.
The Wallpapering Process Explained
Once the wall is prepared and the wallpaper is chosen, hanging the wallpaper begins. This involves careful measuring, cutting, and applying the wallpaper.
Measuring and Cutting
Accurate measurements are essential to avoid waste and ensure a neat finish. Follow these steps:
Measure the Wall Height: Measure from the top of the wall to the floor, adding a few extra inches to allow for trimming.
Cut the Wallpaper: Roll out the wallpaper and cut it to the measured length, ensuring any patterns match up if you're cutting multiple strips.
Number the Strips: Label the back of each strip to keep track of the order, especially when dealing with complex patterns.
The Hanging Technique
The technique of hanging wallpaper involves several steps to ensure a smooth, bubble-free finish:
Apply Adhesive: Use a pasting brush or roller to apply adhesive to the back of the wallpaper or directly to the wall, depending on the type of wallpaper.
Fold the Wallpaper: Fold the wallpaper loosely (paste-to-paste) to allow it to "book" and become pliable.
Hang the Wallpaper: Start at the top of the wall and align the edge of the wallpaper with your reference line. Smooth it downwards with a smoothing tool or brush.
Trim Excess: Use a sharp utility knife to trim excess wallpaper on the floor and ceiling.
Smooth Out Bubbles: Work from the centre outwards to remove any air bubbles or wrinkles.
Special Considerations in Wallpaper Installation
Wallpapering involves addressing various unique challenges and considerations:
Corners and Edges: Ensure precise alignment and avoid overlapping at corners to maintain a seamless look.
Pattern Matching: Carefully align patterns at the seams to ensure a cohesive design.
Electrical Outlets and Fixtures: Precisely cut around outlets and fixtures to maintain the wallpaper's integrity.
Dealing with Challenges
Wallpaper installation can present numerous challenges, from matching patterns to dealing with tricky wall surfaces. Here are some common issues and solutions:
Bubbles and Wrinkles: Smooth out bubbles with a smoothing tool, and gently lift and reapply sections if wrinkles appear.
Mismatched Patterns: Double-check measurements and align patterns before cutting and hanging to avoid mismatches.
Peeling Edges: Ensure edges are securely pasted down, and use a seam roller to press them firmly.
Environmental and Safety Standards
Wallpaper installation must comply with environmental and safety standards to ensure a safe and healthy living environment.:
Use Low-VOC Adhesives: Opt for adhesives with low volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to reduce indoor air pollution.
Ventilation: Ensure proper ventilation during installation to disperse any fumes from adhesives.
Safety Gear: Wear protective gear such as gloves and masks to avoid skin irritation and inhalation of adhesive fumes.
Disposal: Dispose of old wallpaper and adhesive containers responsibly to minimize environmental impact.
Conclusion
The skill and technique of wallpaper installation involve a blend of careful preparation, precise measurements, and expert application. By understanding the tools, processes, and challenges involved, one can achieve a professional-quality finish that enhances the beauty and style of any room. Whether tackling a DIY project or hiring a professional, following these guidelines ensures a successful wallpapering experience.
