Sorry to my inbox, I know I have messages to respond to, unfortunately my state is currently under water and I have family and friends and neighbors I'm trying to locate and help atm. If you see me on here it's not because I'm here, it's because I'm trying to get five fucking minutes where my head isn't just airraid sirens
Much love to all, we are all just doing our best to survive ❤️💚
#finally heard back from my sister in law this morning#thankfully she and my brother in law and their kids are all safe#they've been having power outages tho which worries me because i know nico is still pretty medically fragile and he has a fair amount of#equipment that requires power like his oxygen tank and heart monitors#i asked if they have a generator and sil said no but thankfully none of the outages have lasted more than a few hours yet and nico is ok#but we're probably gonna work together to get both households a generator before the season ends#meanwhile my friends down south still can't be located for over 48 hrs now and the landslides have been a major safety concern#i've put feelers out in and out of the community but I'll be calling the red cross soon if I can't find them#black mountain is literally underwater and there's a number of people I know who are trying to help#lmao the crisis really never stops huh

when your bestie for life but also former co-worker tells you the former work tea and you just
#* &. ooc.#for context i used to work at a DV shelter#STRICTLY for DV women#there was a time they decided to let any woman in basically#like SEVERE MH but WITHOUT DV#stuff that we were not AT ALL equipped to deal with or handle#nor was it safe to us as staff or the clients in shelter#nor was it fair to the women who ACTUALLY needed our services but couldn't access because management decided#to let these aggressive borderline abusers themselves stay in shelter for 3+ months#anyway we had a do not access book where aggressive clients go after departing so future staff know not to let them back in as safety risk#low and behold my bestie just told me they let ONE OF THE WORST ONES in that book back in#i dont even work there anymore and im stressed FOR my bestie and another one of my former co-workers who is a sweet 73 year old lady#but that woman literally had like 5 pages dedicated to everything she did while in shelter#it just shows me that they STILL dont give a damn about staff safety especially nights#they still have people working nights alone#dealing with someone like that who was a CONSTANT TERROR to night staff specifically#omg i can't even right now guys i swear

Its the last day of my work week (and im not giving up the statutory holiday pay just because my paid off days reset today) but yesterday i popped my thumb joint so weirdly while unsticking a stuck suitcase from the xray and it went all red and bruised and still feels real weird and uncomfortable
But it still has full range of motion and doesnt feel painful (just a bit uncomfy) so i think i did the equivalent of rolling my ankle but where the thumb bone connects to your palm because some guy filled his entire bag with metal drawer slides
#i guess ill just keep an eye on it and try not to lift with my left thumb today#anyway fun fact this is why theres weight limits on carry on baggage#its a health and safety issue for us to move them and an equipment hazard since they get stuck if theyre too heavy#and we have to force them loose again when that happens#weve had so many musculoskeletal injuries happen doing that#work tales

I’m gonna rant for a second because I hate the shitty way visitors treat hospital staff, and I’ve spent all of my last 6 12 hour shifts dealing with it
Yes, I know you want an update with the nurse, but they aren’t available right now. It’s shift change, last night’s nurses are exhausted and want to go home, today’s nurses don’t even know who their patients are yet.
Yes, I know, it’s inconvenient. But every single fucking time I have to pull a nurse away from their patient so you can talk to them, that is CARE that the PATIENT ISNT GETTING.
Like, I’m really sorry, but when it comes down to your feelings versus a patient’s actual life, I don’t care about you. I’m sorry that you’re worried and anxious. I sympathize with it. But if you want your loved one to get the care they need, you need to handle yourself because you are a distraction to the nurse, you are hindering patient care, and the more often this happens, the worse your loved one will be, and I don’t get why that’s so hard to understand. If something significant happens, the nurse will call YOU. If they haven’t called, that means there’s no meaningful updates!
I’ve seen it time and again that people think by being the loudest voice in the room, they’re showing how much they care about the patient. These are usually the people that couldn’t give a shit about them when they were healthy. The son that hasn’t seen his mother more than once a month since putting her in a nursing home suddenly needs to be up everyone’s ass all the time. The daughter that hasn’t called her father in months screaming at the nurses over every little thing. It’s such performative bullshit and I hate it. We are not here to be your emotional punching bags so you can feel better about how you’ve neglected your relationships, as if abusing us makes up for your lack of contact and caring.
And the families that like to stand in the doorway staring at everyone who walks by, or come up to the nursing station demanding to speak to the nurse/a charge nurse, because they feel like that care isn’t happening patient care is done on a schedule. Everything is planned down to the hour. Yes, sometimes there are delays. But if a nurse should be providing something at a certain time and doesn’t, that usually means something more important is happening with another patient. Example: you want to tell me to remind the nurse that someone’s pain medication is due in exactly 11 minutes? believe me, that nurse knows down to the exact second when the last dose was given, she’ll be there on time, she does NOT need a reminder. (this is my BIGGEST pet peeve)
Even the people that are well-meaning about their calls, it’s still so self-centered to constantly demand a nurse’s attention every hour, every two hours. Again, I understand when you’re anxious, but the nurse isn’t here to reassure you. Work out your anxiety with a loved one that isn’t the current patient. Because all you’re doing is taking up the nurse’s valuable time, which is taking away from patient care, so that you can have your nerves soothed when there is ultimately no update to be had, other than “everything’s the same.”
If there is a significant change, good or bad, the nurse will call you.
If the patient codes/almost/actually dies, the nurse will call you.
If your loved one spontaneously wakes up from a coma, the nurse will call you.
If there is a major procedure, the nurse will (probably, it’s complicated) call you.
I am so done fielding phone calls from people that are passive aggressive, angry, or straight up yelling at me over the smallest thing. You are not helping anyone when you’re calling the nurse to demand whether the patient has eaten or not yet. Either they did, or they’re not able due to illness, or they’re not allowed to due to an upcoming procedure. Nothing you say or shout will change anything. Medications are added/changed/discontinued practically daily, don’t start freaking out just because the patient was on one blood pressure med one day and a different one/none the next.
If you don’t get a call for a day or two, the nurse isn’t refusing to communicate with you. They just have no significant updates to give, and their time is better spent on patient care than on the phone with you talking about how much the patient did or didn’t urinate.
This goes doubly for patients that are fully conscious/aware of their surroundings, and able to advocate for themselves. In those cases, any family members become entirely superfluous, because we do not need you. We don’t need you to understand what’s going on with the patient, because we don’t need you to consent to their procedures as a medical proxy. Your input doesn’t matter. And you better be damn grateful when the nurse is willing to give you any information at all, because at that point, it should really be up to the patient to disseminate the news of their condition.
Except because nurses are saints and recognize the mental and emotional strain that will put on the patient, they take care of that too. People need to start showing some gratitude instead of attitude, because contact with the nurse is a privilege, not a right, and people like me are incredibly happy to remove it when you can’t be respectful of everyone’s time.
Tl;dr not to be rude but if you’re not the patient, or the patient’s medical proxy, you don’t matter, so you better be nice
#cookie speaks#i'm so frustrated#i've had to have multiple people removed by security this week alone#for jeapordizing patient safety#fucking with equipment and meds#telling me oh im just looking when i can literally see it#I'm so tired of the entitlement#people act like nurses are evil for not wanting to talk to them#like no#they just want to take care of the PATIENT#not YOU#dw I'm a lot nicer than this at work#I'm just really fed up today#it's been a long few weeks

I did NOT do a good job in acting like I wanted the job I just interviewed for SFHSHFSFH.
Which is … true … but damn I really embodied “go girl give us nothing.”
#🎃 cryptid sighting#Admittedly I’ve been getting that quiet little voice in the back of my mind warning me against the job offered#Like safety-wise it’s been raising alarms#It’s basically the full time version of what I’m doing right now but with more heavy equipment & ‘mandated’ overtime#I’m already working about 40 hours/week part time during the busy season so eh- the extra $1/hour isn’t feeling worth it

Also idk if I can elaborate on this in beautiful enough detail, but I think that the Autobots going through unreasonable amounts of effort to save other people even at great personal cost to themselves is literally something good about them, and if you try to criticize that as a way the Autobots are “bad” then I really don’t get you.
#squiggposting#how do i say this without overstepping on experiences i don't have#in the real world when people do things like emergency services or whatever... the foundation of that type of work#is to do something objectively dangerous and risky to yourself on just the bare chance of saving others#there are a lot of safety regulations-- everything from just day to day use of equipment#to entire protocols that emergency services and other people use#whose entire purpose is 'we need to go above and beyond'#'so that we know beyond a shadow of a doubt we have done everything we can do to protect others'#and like that's the principle that the autobots embody. and it's not just a story thing#that's something that happens in real life too. in real life we valorize people who didn't have to do everything they could to save other pe#people but did it anyways. you know???#like the point isn't to say 'if you don't kill yourself to save others then you're a bad person'#the point is to say that we valorize people who DO go above and beyond because they embody the greatest standards of care and selfishness#so like for example yeah the autobots often protect organic species at great tactical loss and personal danger to themselves#but it's because the principle of equality and protection guides them such that they believe this is a noble pursuit#because it is. it is noble to do what's difficult and inconvenient to save other people without expecting recognition#and also in a way it's just the morally and philosophically correct thing to do? like if your choice could possibly do harm to someone#the moral response is to go 'maybe i shouldn't do that because i don't want to hurt people for my own ends'#not for you to go 'well i might NOT hurt them by accident there's only a chance of it so i'll just keep doing my thing'#people who disregard others because 'it's probably not going to hurt them' or 'it's not my problem if they get hurt'#are not people that we would generally call admirable or morally correct#and i think the existence of so many safety and ethical standards IRL proves this#because people/society as a whole know that we have a duty to be SURE that we don't hurt others even by accident#and we have a duty to check whether people might get hurt by accident even if we're 100% sure that no one will get hurt.#it's like fucking checking your windows before you reverse your car. yes you already looked once so there's probably no one behind your car#but it's the responsible and moral thing for you to keep checking your mirrors for the 1% chance that there IS someone#sorry for ranting

we go through this every hurricane season but the way people will find any excuse to point the finger at the victims of natural disasters and say cruel shit like "fuck around and find out" like it's not horrifying having to leave behind your home and all your belongings and potentially your pets with the full knowledge that there might not be anything to come back to after... ignoring that there are people that don't have a car or the money to evacuate, ignoring disabled people who have no way to get out, ignoring people that can't find places for their pets to shelter, ignoring people that have medical equipment that can't be moved or replaced, etc... and even if someone stays behind solely because they want to, they still don't deserve to suffer.
as someone who worked extensively in disaster response previously, it is not easy to "just" evacuate, and the relief that comes afterwards is intentionally difficult to obtain. and already the forces that be are trying to spin this narrative that the victims are at fault, to put the blame on them so that if (probably when) people are forced to resort to looting (because the aid never comes) everyone will nod and agree that they're all bad people and deserved it... rather than acknowledging the fact that there was no attempt to make the evacuation accessible and safe for everyone, no guarantee that aid will be waiting for them when they return to a home that has been swept away... no empathy for the fact that these people's entire lives are potentially destroyed with no safety net to catch them.
#you dont know what you would do in that situation until it happens to you so perhaps withhold your snarky comment#especially as the climate crisis worsens and the people in the margins are left behind to suffer the consequences#one day it WILL happen to you

George Nissen maybe didn't deserve that though
no idea where i was going with this but i abandoned it at the most disconcerting moment possible
#I know his daughter and several people who were his colleagues/associates back in the day#the man basically singlehandedly invented both the trampoline and the sport of trampoline gymnastics from the ground up#(the idea of flexible netting was taken from trapeze safety nets but the frame and springs that makes it rebound was all him)#and the trampoline and loose foam pit basically completely revolutionized the sport of gymnastics#the world would not have gymnasts doing what Simone Biles and Jade Carey and Kenzo Shirai and so on do without Nissen's work and influence#and like... let me be clear#Nissen equipment is HIGH quality#(not just the trampolines; his company also made all of the regular artistic equipment)#and decades after it ceased operation many clubs out there are STILL using their Nissen equipment because it LASTS AND LASTS AND LASTS#and if you've been on a Nissen trampoline you know... there have been imitators there have been duplicators but there is only ONE originator#it really was a case where there's a marked difference between the trademarked Genuine Article and the shoddy knockoffs#and the trademark has a role in consumer protection knowing that you're actually getting what you think you're buying#idk. call me crazy. he's got a sport he invented in the Olympics and you don't though#RIP

My family, my dear friends and everyone who knows me or not ، we are Issam and Sahar , newly married and living in Gaza, I'm 30 years old and Sahar is 26.
Everyone who knows us knows that we are a reserved, quiet and reclusive person. We have always been an independent person and used to do everything ourselves for our family. So, I hope you understand that today it's difficult for us to talk about our personal issues and finally ask for help. I will tell you my story briefly, after I realized some of my dreams a short time ago by marrying my life partner and moving into my house, which we only stayed in for a few days until we were in the middle of the war, we fled to save ourselves and stay alive, we lost hope in life after all our dreams that we had dreamed of since childhood were shattered.
One of our dreams was to settle in the house we built stone by stone and be happy like other couples, but we couldn't because of the war.
I used to work as a lawyer in several companies, I am unemployed, I lost my job, I have no source of income, and everything I saved I put in the house, the house was destroyed and I have nothing now.
This is a picture of me as a lawyer with the head of the Bar Association
My wife and I decided to start a fundraising campaign so that we can get some money to evacuate us after we lost everything, to rebuild our house that was destroyed by the occupation, and to get food, water and other necessities of life so that we can live first and then think about our future, which we don't know anything about.
Now, this is our house, which was destroyed by the occupation after my wife and I equipped it
The place where we live now is devoid of all the necessities of life, and we struggle with access to water, food, safety, and all the necessities needed to live.
I realize that we're all going through tough times, so anything that helps, whether it's your love and support, your donation, sharing my story, or sending love and prayers, it's all accepted and greatly appreciated, and I hope that anyone who is able to help me will help me and spread the link, because literally every dollar makes a difference.
Here is the link to the private fundraising campaign
