REIMAGINED WINGS OF FIRE DRAGONS

This is a small project about redesigning Wings of Fire dragons with a small bit of speculative biology. Not evolution though; these creatures would barely evolve naturally.

Important mention: all of these redesigns are inspired by real life animals and creatures from Monster Hunter series. I do not own the originals, these are just fanart. Also, this artstyle isn't common for me, I mostly draw cartoony stuff.

SANDWINGS: inspired by scorpions, sand vipers, fennec foxes and sand cats, and also desert lizards.

SKYWINGS: inspired by eagles, hawks and pterosaurus.

LEAFWINGS: inspired by leaf-tailed geckos, anteaters and chameleons.

RAINWINGS: inspired by chameleons, boas and octopi.

NIGHTWINGS: inspired by bats and cave animals.

ICEWINGS: inspired by polar animals in general.

SEAWINGS: inspired by seals and catfish.

MUDWINGS: inspired by water buffalos and pseudosuchia.

BEETLEWINGS: an insect micry.

HIVEWINGS and SILKWINGS: inspires by wasps and moths. Descendants of BeetleWings.

Important mention 3: Lizard/Freedom. Because she is practically nothing out of these.

Yknow? I think there’s such a sad element to Freedom seeing that other dragons are full of love.

For her entire afterlife she’s told herself dragons don’t care for their young. They’re reptiles, they leave them behind. For five thousand years she believed her mother burning entire villages wasn’t from love or grief, but just annoyance that she was stolen from.

And then Luna shows her that dragons care for their young, that they love eachother, that they’re kind… and Freedom has to process that her mother loved her. Would have cared for her. Would have given her a name, raised her, taught her lessons, held her when she was scared.

One of Freedoms last sentences before she dies is “I don’t know what my mother would’ve named me.”

Because her mother would have named her… and she never realized that until then.

What do you guys think about “flames of hope?”, I know some ppl didn’t like the book but I quite liked the end bit having all the memories of the characters being shown to freedom, Tsunami’s memory gave me so much nostalgia!

Well, I finally finished to read The Flames of Hope, drew a picture of Freedom aka Lizard. And... I`m not going to tell my opinion about the book, because a lot of people have already told it and mine will change nothing. I want to tell what I think about this series in general.

Tui should end it. Seriously. With all this Pyrrhia-Pantala contact being established, dissapearing of animus magic and the conflict beetwen scavengers and dragons solved TFoH looks like an obvious finish of this story. Yes, it is messy, weird and somewhat disappointing (IMO), but it`s what we have now. It`s written. And I see no sense for author to continue it all (except squeezing the money out of the franchise, of course).

Plus it feels like Tui is burnt out (and I'm not alone who notices it). Continuing to write the series in such state and with such attitude is not a good decision and there`s a big possibility of WOF turning into WC 2.0. I don`t mind more Winglets or something like this, but the main storyline should be left as it is.

And yes. Tui, where`s ref of Freedom? Same question about Hawthorn. There are a lot of characters who were written to be dead, but at least we know how they looked like

Wings of Fire thingy

I loved doing this, it was really fun. I couldn’t fit everyone I wanted to, I may do this again with more dragons, I just thing the book series is pretty neat. Some notes about the designs and the characters in general:

DARKSTALKER: I hate him, but I think he is quite interesting, I want him to die in very horrible ways, and to study him under a microscope. Regarding his design, I tried to make him green because of Foeslayer, and also wanted to nod to Arctic with the diamond shaped scales, instead of the teardrop ones. Also i gave him huge pupils, to make him more creepy i guess.

GLORY: I just think she’s neat, I didn’t change much about her design, since its pretty recognizable and cool. Her book is my favorite one out of the first arc ones, I really like when she first entered the rainforest, she’s just badass overall. Glory honestly slayed the whole book and I kinda hate how Tui gave her a love interest, i just feel like it wasn’t necessary and it just annoyed me lol.

PERIL: I honestly kinda hated her at first, but she’s one of my favorites now. Her story is very interesting and I think that her whole character growth journey is very endearing. Her design was always pretty cool, But i added some more light blue accents because i think they just bring the design together better.

ANEMONE: She is just neat to me, and i really like her design, mostly because of her colors. I always imagined her with glasses for some reason, I didn’t add them because I don’t know how to draw them lol. Something I didn’t like about her character, was that the only reason she had animus powers was because of Turtle, i really hated that.

SNOWFLAKE: I just related to her, like quite a whole lot. I would like to see more of her, I feel like they could do more with her character. I gotta be honest, i hate drawing icewings, they all just look the same to me.

SNOWFALL: I really liked her book, probably my favorite out of arc 3, I really liked her story and personality, her interactions with Lynx were also very entertaining, her warm tones are based on the cover of her book, i know its just the lightning but i felt like it was something worth nodding to.

FREEDOM: She was a very entertaining antagonist and the only reason i like Luna’s book to be honest…. She’s pretty tragic and I find her interactions and whole dynamic with Cottonmouth really funny. I felt inclined to give her antennae like the silkwings but ultimately decided against it. Her personality reminds me of myself and we have same vibe.

PYRITE / HAILSTORM: They are just… tragic, And I crave for more of her story, its just left unfinished (at least that what it feels like to me) I just need to know what happened to her after the whole duel with Winter, I need to know what happened, Its just- DCBUDHCJSKSMLX.
