Because one (1) person asked This is me info dumping.
the inca mythology is so deeply fascinating to me because of how much the organization depends on the notion of how horizontal and vertical lines in hte universe converge. Everything exists in matching sets of four or six, with the main points of the world (what organizes the tahuantinsuyo basically) divided into four parts. With this particular division and cosmology comes a deep sense of responsibility for one another that is super present in the forming of relationships (as it tends to happen in civilizations and latam cosmovisions), which is expressed as Reciprocity. all this to say that the incan deities represented key facts and geographical phenomenons from the world and these are too connected in deep and meaningful relationships of reciprocity: the sun and the moon "owe" one another and that's where the cicles of day and night and harvest/planting comes from.
In true deity fashion, all deities are vaguely related, though it is less about family and more about the patrilineal kinship stuff. in a sense, all gods were gods because they were related to wiracocha, who was the god of all things, in the same way all great things are great and big because they were created that way. inti is the sun god born from the sun and wiracocha (queer love #InAWay). He take over the sun's place though the reasons as to why are muddy. He is generally depicted as a man, there is evidence of him using gender neutral hats. he was the Guy to ask favor for, as he rarely disappeared (unlike mama quilla or other mayor gods such as the wind or rain) and he was so very adored, people would show their alliances to him by wearing gold and the sapa inca was crowned because it was believed he was related to him by blood.
mama quilla is, on the other hand, was the god of the moon and motherhood, wife of inti and was meant to represent the menstrual cicle and the importance of the water cicle in the planting season. her heavy symbology caused her image to be conflated with the idea of mother maria. in contrast to the inca's gold, she wears and is attributed the creation of silver, and she was dedicated to the protection of women. she was followed by her own sequit of women, the Coyllur (stars). a cute little fact that i've always adored is that whenever there was a lunar eclipse it was believed she was in danger and the folks would prepare as if going to actual war for her and threw rocks at the sky in her honor :( she was very loved
and hey whats up with the hats?
in incan society, your "hats" or chucu/hat troncocónico was your ID. your only way of being recognized was by the symbols and use of gold and silver to make them (the % of silver/gold mattered!). inti (fem version) is using a plaque inspired by the warrior hat and the inti symbol, which is repeated on her chest because representations of gods would generally insist on the symbols rather than facial features (again, your face doesn't really matter, your hat does).
Textiles were incredibly important to the reafirmation of identity too! there were pattern specifically created for each scale of society the person wearing participated in, and with the patterns you could tell exactly from where a person was, what role they served, who they were married to, etc. mama quilla's mantle holds her star sequit and used a basic form of rombus that would've been threaded (if accurate) with at least four different colors and patterns. I'm too lazy for that my bad. I think here the four for everything motif is noticeable!
I decided to add the wings behind mama quilla because the colonization did a funny thing with incan deity representation and added things such as feathers to them. historically, incan's used feathers but rarely in the manner colonialist would depict them. I have always thought it was interesting how gough in the poem makes a whole point of the two deities always being there but by different names—which happened a lot after the prosecution of incans and other natives in latam for refusing to join christianity. to this day, mama quilla is still worshiped, but under a much more christian perspective that severs her connection to women's reproductive circle and importance in the social and political sphere. #Thoughts
i was originally gonna do XD/HD talking but then the lines father sun / mother moon took me back and I Needed to draw inti and mamaquilla. Who here cares about incan/andean mythology..........

The archaeological zone of Huchuy Qosqo or “Little Cusco” was known during the Inca times as Qaqyaqawana (which in Spanish means “place from where you can see the thunder”).
According to the chroniclers, this enclosure was inhabited by the Inca Wiracocha until his death. It is mentioned that of them there are at least 2 buildings. In addition, the presence of platforms and cliffs.
Also, from Huchuy Qosqo you have a spectacular view of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the mountains of the Cordillera del Urubamba.
