I know I promised you a September-Johnlock wedding, but death and real life got in the way.
I changed the date, by now ideas are still a bit blurred, but I see a wonderful winter wedding with happy guests, Mycroft and Greg as best men, a bee dress for Rosie, and most of all two men who love each other to the moon 🌙 and back 💕

Everything was flawless: the dress, the flowers, the church, the ceremony, the dinner with good friends at their favorite restaurant afterward.
But, but...
And then, suddenly, the sky filled with snow, and Rey was in Ben's arms.
The perfect winter wedding.

Why Winter Weddings Are the Coolest Choice: Your Guide to Planning a Magical Winter Wonderland Wedding
Tumblr media
So you’re thinking about a winter wedding, huh? First of all, congrats on finding your forever person! Now, let’s talk about why winter weddings are an absolute dream – and, yes, sometimes a challenge. Winter weddings are like stepping into a magical wonderland, but there's also the cold, the holiday hustle, and a few tricky logistics to consider. Here's the full scoop on planning the winter wedding of your dreams, the pros and cons, and all the details you might not have thought of (yet). Let's dive in!
Tumblr media
The Perks of a Winter Wedding
Romantic Vibes and Cozy Feels: Imagine saying your vows surrounded by snow-dusted trees, candlelit pathways, and crackling fireplaces. Winter weddings practically glow with romance.
Off-Peak Prices: Most wedding venues, photographers, and vendors offer better deals in the winter since it’s technically “off-season.” Fewer brides mean more availability and maybe even a little wiggle room on prices!
Less Sweating, More Snuggling: With a winter wedding, say goodbye to melting makeup and sweaty brows. You can actually snuggle under faux fur throws and wear long sleeves without overheating – dreamy, right?
Unique Décor Possibilities: Winter opens up a whole new world of decorations: pinecones, evergreen branches, snowflakes, candles, and even twinkle lights. Plus, you can embrace rich, cozy colors like deep reds, emerald greens, and metallics.
Things to Consider (and Plan Around!)
Holiday Proximity: Timing is everything. Avoid dates too close to Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s. These holidays come with family commitments, travel chaos, and added expenses for your guests. Aim for early December or January for a winter vibe without holiday conflict.
Weather Wildcards: Winter weather is unpredictable. Snow sounds magical until it turns into a blizzard on your wedding day. Plan for potential delays (especially if guests or vendors are traveling) and choose a venue with indoor options, even for photos.
Sunset at 4 PM: Days are shorter in winter, meaning less daylight for photos. Work with your photographer to plan an earlier ceremony or schedule some cozy candlelit portraits indoors. Golden hour hits around 3–4 PM in winter, so don’t sleep on that timing!
Guest Comfort: Think about the extra layers your guests might need. Providing blankets, shawls, or even a hot drink station is a cute touch and keeps everyone cozy.

Winter Wedding Do’s and Don’ts
DO:
Embrace the Winter Wonderland Theme: Think rich textures, twinkle lights, and jewel tones for a romantic, warm vibe. Velvet bridesmaid dresses, plaid shawls, and string lights go a long way!
Offer Cozy Extras: A hot chocolate or mulled wine station will keep guests warm and add a fun wintery element. Even better, consider s’mores by the fireplace if your venue allows it!
Prepare for All Kinds of Weather: Have backup options for photos, travel, and ceremony locations. Clear umbrellas for snow or rain photos are also super cute!
Get Creative with Florals: Winter florals can be stunning and unique. Think lush greenery, amaryllis, roses, and even eucalyptus. Throw in some pinecones or berries for a festive touch!
DON’T:
Overdo the Holiday Vibe: Unless you want a holiday-themed wedding, avoid red and green together. Instead, opt for whites, blues, or deep jewel tones like burgundy and navy.
Skimp on Lighting: Winter evenings are dark, so make sure your venue has plenty of lighting. Fairy lights, candles, and lanterns can create a cozy glow.
Forget the Footwear: Stilettos and snow don’t mix. Consider winter-friendly footwear options – maybe even matching boots for the wedding party? Guests will appreciate a note about appropriate shoes too.
Stress Over the Weather: Embrace the season! Snow, rain, or shine, it's going to be beautiful.

Small Details Brides Often Forget
Transportation: Make sure transportation is winter-ready. If there’s snow, a limo might struggle to get through, so think about backup transportation or check that your venue has plowing capabilities.
Wardrobe Extras: From warm wraps to scarves and gloves for the bridal party, make sure everyone stays cozy. A faux fur shawl or velvet cape can be stunning in photos!
Guest Accommodations: Guests might prefer to stay overnight, especially if they’re traveling in unpredictable weather. Book a block of rooms nearby and send info with your invites.
Heating Options: Whether it’s heaters for an outdoor space or plenty of warmth inside, make sure your guests won’t be shivering.
Bridal Emergency Kit: This one’s a lifesaver. Include hand warmers, Chapstick (chapped lips are no joke in winter!), tissues, and a mini hairspray for those flyaways.
To Sum It Up – Is a Winter Wedding Right for You?
Winter weddings aren’t for everyone, but if you love the idea of cozy fires, twinkle lights, and maybe even a little snow magic, winter could be your perfect season. You get unique perks, a beautifully intimate vibe, and (most likely) some great off-season discounts. Just make sure you plan for the quirks of the season, keep your guests cozy, and embrace the unpredictable weather. After all, a little snowfall on your wedding day? That’s pure magic.
Happy planning, winter brides-to-be! You’re about to pull off something seriously unforgettable. ❄️
