I wasn't sure if you wanted me to draw Aster from my comic Gaster's Return, or Gaster in general, but after a bit of reflexion I decided to draw Aster x) I can't tell too much about them, since Aster and those two are a big deal in his backstory, but I'll tell you as much as I can He was pretty close to Asriel, just as much that he was close to Asgore and Toriel. He would accept to take care of him when Asgore and Toriel are busy, and Asriel treated him as his weird adult friend (Little guy was lonely 💀)

Now for Chara, it's a bit more difficult... At the moment when the human fell in the Underground, Aster became more distant with the royal family in general, due to some disagreements. So they didn't interacted a lot, Aster took some BIG distances with them But, since you asked, here's some interactions between them

Wait... I realized something that is really obvious. TT^TT

Sans and Papyrus's first name are their font, so W.D./Wingdings Gaster's first name is Wingdings/W.D., and Gaster is his last name. Like Asgore and Asriel also have the Dreemur at the end. It's not like in the languages where they put the first name at the end when introducing themselve... So if Papyrus and Sans was related to Gast to Wingdings? W.D.? (wow it will takes time getting used to it), their full name would be Sans and Papyrus Gaster. :0

Or not. I don't know but it would be weird to stop thinking of him as Gaster at this point. But also, it is logical... I don't know anymore, maybe I got something wrong?

Dr. Gaster could do some basic veterinarian work if pressed; his knowledge bases in both medicine and in biology as a whole give him enough to do it, but it's far from his specialty as a doctor.

The difficulty in using healing magic on non-sentient animals made veterinary science a lot more emotionally taxing, because it was less likely to be able to save your patient, if they were seriously injured.

Healing magic.

That's why he quit. That's why he stopped being a doctor, focusing on research. He couldn't heal. Why couldn't he heal anymore?

In reply to the original submitter : I'd looked and no, the cabbage man didn't have a name when you submitted him. However, I had another look just in case recently... and it looks like he's going to be known as Cai in the children book focused on him that should go out this Summer. According to the wiki, "if he shares the same last name as his son Lau Gan-Lan, That would make his name "Cai Gan-Lan", a play on "gan-lan cai", the name of a vegetable dish."

This probably isn't the worst theory but its one that bugs me, this old one I spotted that the reason Undyne has determination is because Alphys puts it in ice cream she eats

Any theory that goes "Gaster because Gaster" despite there being no need to include Gaster, and no evidence supporting his involvement.

Chara committed genocide on the humans before they fell underground. If I remember correctly their reasoning was that they said it was the only explanation as to why Chara was able to achieve as high a damage number as we see when they erase the world.

Soulless Pacifist is just Chara pranking you and that everyone's actually okay anyway since they're just reminding you that you did the genocides!!!!. Might as well just remove everything from the game but the Undyne the Undying and Sans fights without dialogue since there's literally no stakes in the story whatsoever if that's the case, just do the two challenging fights then be done.

alright so i was the guy who figured out the wingdings translate to and i quote "The phrase is aster". That took 5 minutes of actual effort. Yall should be disappointed in yourselves since it would have been a 1 minute google search and 4 minutes of a not that hard puzzle. Skeletons and Fonts

It is a well known fact in Undertale that skeletons are most commonly named after fonts. Skeletons have both first and last names and while it is most common that a skeleton's name is a font, there can be instances where they would have normal, human names.

Skeletons can also see other's fonts.

What this look like is whenever a someone speaks to a skeleton, (human or monster), their words appear in a speech box with a certain font. The fonts of most humans and monsters do not very too greatly, however skeleton fonts come in a very wide variety with fonts like Wingdings being more rare. (Skeletons who speak in wingdings often speak with a form of accent)

Family names typically come from the name of the font the parents use, and first names are usually derived from the skeleton's spoken font.

I finally written it all out because I can't draw but certainly can write myself into an hole. Haveing been in the fandom for more than six years I supposed it was finally time I share my version of Gaster.

General

Gaster's name is actually Wingdings Aster rather than Wingdings Gaster. He never had the heart to correct the king and queen about how his name is actually pronounced.

Gaster isn't related to Sans and Papyrus, he is friends with Sans and resultingly Papyrus.

Wingding's has a sweet tooth though he doesn't openly admit such things. At the same time he'll never turn down sweets.

Gaster's an boss monster. His level of violence sits at five, very close to six from the war, he was only a late teenager (17) when the monsters were sealed underground. His LV is only that high from needing to defend himself.

Dings has had mental health issues since the war, depression and anxiety hung around long term which greatly affected his self worth.

His right eyesocket has always been deformed in a permanent halfmoon. Due to the deformity his sight out of that eyesocket don't work properly, once the crack forms in that eyesocket he loses full sight out of it. Due to what caused the one crack his equilibrium is distorted though most wouldn't notice this.

Before the CORE accident

He used to paint frequently but he slowly stopped doing so. He lost enjoyment in the activity years ago but never could bring himself to get rid of his equipment to paint.

The cracks on his face were not always there and rather born from a mix of stress and a repercussion of a failed experiment. His hands were his own doing as well but that isn't to be spoken about. Visually his hands even with being healed have permanent cracks that break off from the holes in them, they don't fully go through the bone but can be felt and seen.

His smoking habits were born rather innocently at first, he simply wanted to understand why cigarettes were labeled as addictive for humans. Turns out skeletons can become addicted to nicotine much like humans. (Or at least for Gaster)

Post CORE incident

After haveing been in the dark for an intangible amount of time he's grown an intense fear of the dark, artificial or otherwise.

Under stress his full body becomes more melted in an similar manner an wax figure melts under heat. Stressors can be from outside forces or lack of sleep.

Due to the incident his magic isn't what it used to be. His magic being rather erratic even by his standards, he only has the use of one set of extra he can depend on while useing more then one set can become risky.

With his major fear of the dark his sleep schedule is ruined. The doctor sleeping during the day while staying awake at night to make sure this tangible reality doesn't disappear around him.

Detailed appearance

Before his fall Gaster was an skeleton fully. Sadly he had the same deformities his mother had in her own bones. Due to this his appearance is as such before he gained the cracks. Sadly I don't have any commissioned artwork of him without any cracks.

After the incident the Royal scientist takes on a more heavily melted appearance. His upper and lower arms missing with his hands intact, the rest of his body having a more pure black appearance than don't show any shadows cast onto it. His physical bone structure ends at the spine vertebrae L3 with the black goop that's replaced his legs starting at L3 almost L2 visually. The image provided shows both an idea of his stable and unstable appearances.

Vastly different.

Mars would have been something like a rancher that cared for livestock, I think. Even though he has a scary appearance, the large beasts of the plains don’t seem to fear him.

Jupiter would probably help Ursa (outertale paps) work as this worlds equivalent to a Cub Scout or Boy Scout troop leader. Learning about the outdoors. Ursa would handle teaching about the flora and fauna, while Jupiter would teach them how to survive in the wild should they be ‘up shits creek without a paddle.’

Polaris (outertale sans) would also study the local plant and wildlife and end up as a professor at the university in St. Calibri. When he isn’t doing that, he also likes to learn about insects. He probably falls asleep while studying and some of them hitch rides on Polaris into the house, much to Ursa’s dismay.

(Their dad thinks it’s endearing, as Polaris makes sure they all get out back outside, safely.)

Red is a mechanic. Cars exist but someone still has to fix em when they break.

Edge would become quite the amazing cook and teach others how to cook.

Milord would be a lawyer.

Mutt would have ended up with a much gentler disposition. So eventually with how smart he is, he would have opened his own gardening or landscaping business.

Blue would be a sheriff/ the sheriff or a firefighter.“This town isn’t big enough for your troublesome antics, evil-doer!”

Orange’s laid back attitude makes him a good bartender/ keeper. (He’d run the saloon.)

Aster would be a doctor. (Granted that’s kinda the same as what he currently does. Though that’s a field medic.) He is very generous with his time and service to his community.

G would be a private eye. He has a natural charm and charisma that allows him to get closer to people than one normally would. Not to mention his intelligence and natural curiosity would make him a good sleuth.

Sans would be a deputy to Blue- doing a lot of the under cover work and ‘bad cop’ing. Actually getting the results as his more excited counterpart goes on the chase for the bad guys and all that fun jazz. He would also be the one to work with Milord for criminal cases, as well as Milord would be the on call lawyer for the jail.

Papyrus would be a handyman. If it can be broken, this master of all things ‘confusing contraption’ can probably fix it. Pluming, lightning, furniture. Etc etc.

Bonus:

The gasters-

Fell- He is still in the army as a top tier General. He was bossy from the day he was born and he’ll stay bossy long after he dusts. Where do you think edge got the audacity from? He learned it from someone and it wasn’t Red.

Swap- He would be a pre-school teacher. He didn’t earn his #1 Dad! Pin for nothing.

Starlord- He would study meteorology and probably be a forecaster.

Trocar- Like his son Mars, he has a way with animals. He would be a veterinarian.

Swiff (SwapFell Gaster) - Mans is a straight up fiend. He’s getting a head start on the brewing business for moonshine.

WingDing- He would teach mathematics at St. Calibri University…

The one that swung the door open was... was a very strange looking wolf- skeleton monster. Even for Grimm standards, he looked... off, somehow. The top of the head was completely skeletal, while the bottom jaw had grey fur. The front of the neck was open to reveal part of the vertebra while the back was completely close off. Not to mention the long and thin spiky tail that ended in a tuff of hair. And to top it all, he had eyes on his shoulders and in the back of his hands.
