Lathyrus japonicus (beach pea)
Ah, perfection! The Pacific Ocean on a sunny day, windsurfers doing their thing and Lathyrus japonicus blooming all over the place. I guess they don't call this plant 'beach pea' for nothing.

Summaryβ
After severing his connection to Odysseus, instead of just reconnecting with him, Poseidon decides that he should ask Athena for one more favor that'll help him move on, even if that's not what the Goddess of Wisdom sees but instead of taking his niece's smarter and healthier advice, he doubles down...
After Athena tucked Odysseus back into bed, she watched him closely for a moment, seeing if he had awoken time during the walk-up here, but she only watched him simply snuggle against his beloved wife, resting his face in the crook of her neck as she sighed sweetly at the contact, still sleeping soundly in their marital bed, which she was still surprised that existed to this day, but she had to admit, he was one hell of a carver to have it all the way up here and still alive too no less. πAthena...π πYes, uncle?π The Goddess of Wisdom asked from her mind now that she and Poseidon were having a mental connection with each other, she quietly walked over to the doorway of the newlyweds' bedroom, and she stopped there to look back at them so swiftly that if one of them were awake they wouldn't have been able to close even one of their eyes yet she saw nothing but the two still in deep sleep with Hypnos so she turned around and continued walking into the hall and down it to leave the castle, well aware why the elder God was speaking to her in the conspicuous way possible without his presence being here. She walked over to a window, looked out at the town below, and saw how nice it would be to fly around the now-empty streets colored in blue and violet hues thanks to the moon and accompanied darkness enveloping the place.
The Warrior of Tatic and Strategy then transformed back into an owl and flew from the palace down to the town, flying through the buildings and the streets before she flew over to the stone walkway to the sea God's shrine, flying up the stairs languidly before she reached the alter and looked around it to see where she last saw the gift Odysseus left for him and spotted not too far from the statue of Poseidon, swooping down and grabbed it up in her beak before flying off and down to the sandy shores where she left him at. His figure slowly came into view for her, and when she was close enough to him, she seamlessly transformed back into her more humanoid form once more and kept her knelt position in front of the God of Tides, who stood there, staring down at her, his eyes had turned back to normal a while ago before she came back, his entire being was now out of the water allowing his pale blue toga to form the illusion of his precious waters at his feet like a waterfall. "Did you getβ?" "Yes, uncle, I got it here." She said, holding out her hand up to him, which held a sack with a painting of waves with the finest paints imaginable for any God to appreciate on it and was tied shut with a Persian blue ribbon.
Poseidon blinked at it in confusion. That was nice, but he was wondering what was inside of it. Seriously, what could Odysseus have been up to to make such an effort to place whatever the gift was in such a sweet-looking sack of his vision, reaching down to pluck it out of his niece's hand and holding it in his own, his curiosity devouring his sense of hearing apparently blocked by his mind going still from how thoughtful the sack alone was until a feather stuck out in front of him before quickly tickling his nose, making him scoot back sharply with speed rivaling the gout of wind that calmly blew by. He shook his head heavily and then sneezed just as heavily, then soon looked up at Athena angrily, watching her snort before chuckling quietly to herself at the sight, her mouth covered by her scarred hand while she tried to gain her composure back as he opened his mouth to speak. "You do that again, I'll make sure you won't fly again with those pesky feathers, got it?" "Way to kill the vibe, uncle." Athena chastised lightly in an airy tone, far from the serious one she was carting around so much. It actually made him wonder again when she became so strict on herself from the child she used to be from what felt like a day ago when it was only many years.
He couldn't help the small smile, warm and genuine rest on his face that made him seem more capable of the act than his usual deep scowl, even his horsetail wagged in response to his emotion. "So what do you think is inside?" Athena asked, her voice residing of little emotion, yet her cape feathers twitched just enough to show how eager she was to know, but Poseidon knew that she really should be going to Olympus by now as much as he wanted to open it right there and then for his sake as he wasn't sure if he could rush back to Atlantis to open it, he knew he should be the wiser of the two but he had a very important question to ask the Goddess of Wisdom, one that may soften the blow he was still reeling from in his mind. "Athena, I'll tell you what I have from your student if you do me something that's well-needed." She blinked owlishly but nodded all the same. "Sure, seems like a fair enough trade as I'm due to return home anyways. What is it?" He sucked in a deep breath, letting the cold air fill his lungs before he let it go, finally finding the courage to speak some more. "Can you...keep me updated on Odysseus' life?" Athena looked like a confused mortal with an air bubble in her mouth as she stared dumbfounded at her uncle as her brain tried to allow her to process the absurdity of that request, finally, she managed out a rather strained "Why" like it was bitter nectar she struggling to swallow as this was the most ridiculous thing to ever be said, one the Goddess wasn't taking all to well.
"Because I...want to, okay?" Poseidon answered snappishly like a dog barking for authority, but he realized this was going to be harder on him than he thought as he saw the Goddess of Wisdom's expression of confusion grow more pronounced before she asked. "Why not wait for him to call you? He has been at your shrine, so I don't see whyβ" "I severed my connection with him..." Now the younger being looked at the elder one with bafflement at his perplexing decision, and he didn't blame her. This was really stupid to hear. "Why would you do that?" "I-uh did it a while back, and I never reconnected with him since." The God of Tides lied as swiftly as he could to make it look like he had simply forgotten about it when he was really tricking her and being the oldest God of them all he knew Athena was just going to have to take his word for it, which thankfully for him, she seemed to accept it a little, good. "Okay, but why not reconnect with him? If you want to be in contact with him, he would probably be overjoyed about it." Ah, if only she knew it was far too late for that to work in both their favors. "I don't feel that comfortable in doing so." "Yet feel comfortable enough to task me with being your personal Hermes?" "Do you intend on not being his mentor after this night?" Athena blinked before answering with a questioning tone. "No?" "So what's the problem with my request?" "Nothing, aside from the fact that you have to be your personal Hermes rather than reconnecting with Odysseus for unknown reasons you won't entrust me with but want me to gossip about my student with you." The King of the Ocean wrinkled his nose and let out an indignant snort at that.
"You make it sound as if I'm using you to take his kingdom or something." He said hotly, his eyes slowly reverting back to those threatening waves again as he spoke, but Athena stared up at him with a raised brow and a look of indifference as she crossed her arms again. "I'm just saying that if you don't feel comfortable with reconnecting with him but insist that I should tell about his life from here on out and with no reasons given, you can't expect me to just be carefree about this when it looks suspicious." She explained in that expected blunt way of hers whenever she felt she was right about something, which she wasn't, but she really didn't need to know it. Poseidon sighed heavily, his tail whipping around behind him in a show of his growing irritation as he rubbed the bridge of his nose. "I don't intend on doing anything but listening to what you tell me about him, I promise." He finished through gritted teeth when the Warrior of Tatic and Strategy didn't look convinced, but now she held a satisfied smile on her face. "Good, and I would still like to hear what the gift Odysseus gave you was." "Very well..." The God of Tides reluctantly drawled but was so glad that Athena accepted his offer before turning around and letting her cape unfurl to flap and lift her high into the sky to be at Olympus Poseidon sighed heavily in relief, thankful the Goddess didn't question things further, but now he stewed in the thought of why Athena loved acting like a mortal when she could just do that, yet, he told himself he'll have plenty time to ask that, now, he needed to head back to his own home to process tonight.
He walked into his palace, large and vast, resembling that of coral with various shades of blue making up the color scheme of his wonderful home, white accents making it pop but the lots of pearls and jewels of many sizes yet placed in the right spots with the right amount of them that brought much-needed color to not have it be an eyesore of bleakness for his home, reliefs of many large sizes filled the hallways he walked down as he made his way closer to his room, finally stopping in front of the big, ornate dark blue door of intricate details with that contained mostly a large horse and dolphin in the center of waves that formed a heart around the animals, it was in his best choice to have done it to show his love for his wondrous queen; Amphitrite. Opening the door, he walked in and closed it behind him before a light, catty voice spoke up. "Hello, my dearest grumpy horse! Did you have fun listening to one of Odysseus' ramblings again?" His beloved pearl asked him from their bed that she languidly lay upon, her pale legs crossed over each other as she kicked the foot that rested on her lower leg lazily, Poseidon blinked, he didn't expect her to come back from her little trip so soon, but he was happy to be in a welcomed presence due to still feeling at sour feeling that rested unwittingly in his gut, so he smiled widely, showing his shark teeth to her perfect pale cyan eyes. "Yes, my giggly jellyfish, I even have a gift from him too." "Oooohhh, he gifted something to you, oh, you must unravel that ribbon this instant~!!" She enthused, something that had the sea God soaking up her good mood that he was jittery about it too!
However, it was when he sat on the bed and felt his wife's gentle hands on his shoulders that the anxiety trickled through his veins like the raindrops of a cloud until it became a storm of nerves as he slowly reached up and grabbed the ribbon to tug it loose from its perfect tie to open the sack up, something as red as a mortal's blood was the first thing they saw, reaching into it, Amphitrite pulled out a big Red Delicious apple from the sack which made them both blink in surprise at it then Poseidon reached out for the next big red thing inside, however, it was plush of red fabric when his fingertips brushed against it, making him grab it up gently than his inattention and pulled it out for his wife to see as she snacked on the apple lightly, he then placed the sack down next to his right side to hold the red fabric underneath, it unraveled slowly to show a multitude of red grapes that made the sea God's heart jump with pure excitement, his tongue snaking out to lick his lips slowly in a show of his quick hunger pang he felt in that moment as the Goddess of the Sea giggled lightly at the reaction.
"Eat those after you show me what else is inside that sack." She said airly, making her husband glance at her with squinted eyes for a split second before he handed his grapes off to her to hold as he grabbed the sack up again and dug in to pull out a small, yellow, wooden horse, it was like a miniature figure, the couple blinked at it until Poseidon found himself eagerly pulling out more wooden horses, his tail wagging happily like an excited child on their birthday, each horse had beautiful designs all sculpted from the wood that made them up, from lilypads, small frogs, fish of all types, and even a pair carved together that was of a loving couple, nuzzling their heads together, one with dolphins on it and the jellyfish, making the aquatic couple to awe at it before he hands it to his beloved to have her swim over to the alter in their room with the other smaller horses, clams that held big pearls, and coral that made shapes of pear beauty or about him and Amphitrite. As Poseidon was about to pit the sack aside, assuming it was empty, the Queen of the Ocean saw something sparkling from within. "Hun, wait, there's still some inside," she pointed out wistfully, making him blink in surprise before he opened the sack again and slowly dug into it, feeling something cold inside and soon a piece of paper. He slowly pulled the last item out, and he lost his breath in an instant. His ears twitched slightly in acknowledgment of the quiet gasp he heard from Amphitrite as the two stared at the dark blue, glass sculpture of the King of the Ocean, whose eyes sparkled and glowed heavily in a cheery happiness that had his tail wagging around and making loud thumps against the mattress, his wife's dolphin tail wagging in tune with his.
"It's beautiful." Amphitrite breathed softly, giving Poseidon more goosebumps as he turned the figure around gently, carefully in his hand while he gawked at it with loving eyes. It captured him in his younger days when he wore gladiator attire and had a large Friesian horse, his horse, from his past and for his form, the details were extraordinary with fine groves and curves that made up every single one. He fixated on the sculpture for what felt like long moments, moments that apparently had his eyes more than his wife's hand that reached over and grabbed the note that sat on his lap, read it, and then with a small smack on his thigh, he snapped back to reality to look over at said note and see what it says. 'Dear King of the Ocean, if you're reading this, that means you have my gift to you from going to your shrine yourself or Athena handed it to you out of the kindness of her heart-or maybe because she thought I would pester her about which she wouldn't be wrong about-however you got it, this is my goodbye present to you in case you have heard my ramblings-sorry for bothering you for so long if you did-I want to at least remember me in a favorable light, so I made you these from my hands, and had some help with the glass figure-Athena really knows her stuff, so lucky to have her too! But this is about you finding my parting gift to you to your liking; I hope you do at least entertain this man who adores your seven seas as much as you do. Take care, my epithet. Sincerely, little king Odysseus' πOdysseus, your kindness seems so endless. May it never change.π "What do you think about this young mortal?" Amphitrite asked sweetly as she took the blue figure from her husband to place with the others. "I think," He started softly, looking at the figures on the altar before he continued. "I think he will be a fine ruler."

Windwalker
As I understand it, windsurfing is when the board stays on the surface of the water; its offshoot, windfoiling - as seen here - is when the board goes airborne, anchored only by a hydrofoil fin that protrudes from the bottom of the board.
On Tuesday we were in Petoskey and took a walk on the pier that juts out into Little Traverse Bay. A cool, robust wind kept most people off the pier, but the weather was custom-made for taking a flier in the bay.
Windsurfing, the Internet tells me, emerged in the 1960s from California's aerospace and surf culture. It became an Olympic sport in 1984.

Summaryβ
Odysseus finally became king tonight, but this soon became the start of a horrible thing for Poseidon to hear as he no longer has a reason to be excited to hear more of the mortal's stories or see his presence anymore. The sea God has no idea how to take this, and thus, himself being the dramatic type, does something drastic to cope...
"Oh, I wish Athena could've seen how I finally became king~" Odysseus swooned over the cool ocean. It was a calm, nice night for the young King of Ithaca, who just became the bearer of the title tonight after hisβtheir wedding, and he was completely smitten over it, yet his nerves made him come out here on the canoe he always used to set himself far from hisβkingdom nowβto talk to himself to clear his mind, however, he always felt like he was watched by the God of Tides, King of the Ocean; Poseidon, whenever he was even near the ocean, near his domain. This was different. However, he was unsure how long he would be cooped up in the castle, but he would make sure to make this final speech of his right, after all, before Athena, the sea was his first friend and it was only fair that his goodbye made it count, but he couldn't help but think this was his way of saying farewell instead.
"Lord Poseidon, King of the Ocean, God of these very tides, I need to thank you especially for being there for me the most, when I was taught how to swim so much so that skill is embedded into my very soul, even if I were to fall asleep in your cooling embrace, I would learn how to stay above it for my survival. I am really honored you took the time out of your busy day to listen to me and my woes. Even if you had something more important to do, I'm still glad you did, and I will be indebted to you for a lifetime, even if this is the final time you see my face because I became king, I will be just as busy as you, my father, and Athena, I will be a king dealing with problems and listening to the woes of his people like you and Athena have for me, especially when I talked your heads off about my beloved Penelope, who I married now, she's everything imaginable to the word of perfection, plus more~"
Odysseus swooned again, falling back on the canoe, his arm landing above his eyes lightly, especially for the rough texture of his leather armband as he lay there like a tired starfish basking in the moonlight's reign to feel the sweet embrace of Selene, sighing heavily as exhaustion befell his body before he continued in a much softer tone now. "I wanted you to know, my Lord, my epithet, that I'm glad you were the first ever friend I made and kept for so long, I'm so glad I did, thank...you...my friend..." Odysseus drawled slowly as Hypnos' hold finally took over him, to bring him to the land of dreams, to which he soon started snoring softly, completely asleep with a small smile on his face, a large webbed hand rose quietly from the water, even the droplets made no noise from the extraction since they were being absorbed by the appendage.
The olive, calloused hand was attached to a strong arm with a dark blue rippling fin on the forearm. The rest of the body soon lifted upwards to show pure black curtain bangs that almost overshadowed aqua-blue eyes that stared down at him with a warmth that was a surprise from the usually grumpy sea God, whose horse ears twitched around to make sure no dangers were coming to the young king before him, a small smile tugged his lips upward, lifted his long, wavy beard up with the motion. He was, of course, none other than Poseidon himself, who simply stared at Odysseus as he slept, appreciating how his peachy skin shone underneath the moon's glow, how his messy chocolate brown hair was swayed by the wind of salt water to flow calmly in its hold until it finally let go to still the locks over the man's face just a little but it was enough to have Poseidon brush it away feathery light with his hand to see that short bearded face more, appreciating how there was only that much hair there to come off as stubble, thin lines of it fitting his smooth and soft skin to perfection.
Yes, Poseidon remembered, he remembered the conversation that Odysseus thought he was having by himself that Eurylochus-his friend, he thought, got his beard growing in fast and before him, who had yet to see a strand of it until it finally came the day after his complaint, making him talk about until he fell asleep, allowing the God of Tides to make sure he was sleeping soundly, he soon realized that this sleeping-out-in-the-sea act had become a normal thing ever since he was a boy and with it came the God's overwhelming desire to watch over him. At first, it was just out of the blue, he honestly didn't know why he was watching aside from seeing the man toss and turn, possibly ending up in the water, but he slowly found himself getting closer and soon making sure Odysseus didn't do no such thing, and soon the mortal's company on his waters became more welcomed more than his father's as he came to visit more and more, talking endlessly about things that made King of the Ocean feel many emotions.
Some range from amusement to slight irritation whenever they contain something or someone slightly slighting the young king or another emotion that appears when Odysseus talks of his beloved wife, Poseidon knew what it was, deep down he did but he scoffed it up to it being a phase, a phase he was going to have to outgrow as this was last time he would see this bright mortal again...huh. Now that the message was settling clearly in his mind, he realized just how much he was going to miss the man before him, how much he was going to miss his ramblings, how much this was going to be silence from Ithaca once again, how much it was going to affect him. He truly didn't realize how this was going to affect him until he allowed himself to think about it, the one thing he hated doing when things never worked out for him and this, this was the one thing he wanted to avoid when he heard Odysseus' goodbye, making him growl in annoyance and something else he couldn't afford to think about now, not when he was thinking about kidnapping the King of Ithaca for himself to be his, and his alone.
"Uncle, I know that look. Why are you planning on killing my apprentice? He's not doing anything to warrant your anger, so why the look?" A familiar voice called out to him, making him look up to the source as an equally familiar owl flew over to them and landed on the end of the canoe, slowly transforming into his niece with her signature owl-like cape draped over her shoulders and held in place with her golden clip that had her owl design on it that held it in place, allowing her tan, muscular arms to cross over her chest with her usual imposing stance her mother would be proud of but now her critical eyes were on him from underneath her helmet that hid her face from view and he blinked at it before asking. "What are you talking about, Athena?" "I am talking about how you planned on drowning my student just for existing." Poseidon tilted his head in further confusion because what? He stared at her for what felt like a century until he chuckled and soon the chuckling turned into stifled laughter that was loud but his hand was covering his mouth to not wake the sleeping mortal before them, a tear dribbled down his face as he went on until finally he breathed a long-winded sigh of joy with a couple of chuckles that indicated his dying down laughter. "Oh, I can assure you that I don't intend on drowning him, especially when I have no reason to." Athena blinked in surprise through her helmet because she didn't expect this. Clearly, Poseidon could even swear he saw her feathers actually ruffle in her disbelief at what she was hearing.
"Oh, I thought you were going to kill Odysseus for just sleeping here. Good to know it's just your resting look tricking me again. Sorry, uncle." Athena said before she sat down and looked over at him again, this time with expectancy before he reluctantly moved away from the canoe to watch as she grabbed the ores and began rowing back to Ithaca, the island that would take the young king away from him for good, something that made him sick with...dread? Why dread, On his name, what was he feeling was he feeling during this, how could be feeling such a thing for no reason, this was just a random mortal, a man who should mean that much to him and yet here he was, watching over him as he turned on his other side to snore about more. "Why are you following?" The sudden question from the Goddess snapped him out of his thoughts, and he looked up at her with a horse-caught-in-water expression. "Huh?" "Why are you following us, I'm not going to do anything reckless, so you don't have anything to worry about." Oh, that's what she was talking about, Sweet Atlantis-what else could she be talking about, Poseidon!?
"Uh, because I want to..?" He answered, sounding unsure, and apparently, it was enough to have the Goddess of Wisdom squint her eyes in suspicion at his answer, but she turned forward once more to focus on her task at hand as she covered more ocean and got closer to Ithaca, the sea God tensed at it, a queasy sensation overtaking him, his ears flattening close to his head as his hair became more wavy in nonexistent wind and slowly became an ultramarine blue that glowed brightly, Athena noticed but forced herself to not say anything until Poseidon asked. "Why did you come out here, anyway?" She glanced back at him, seeing he was staring at Odysseus with his eyes now fully consumed by his eye color with waves flowing through them, yet she knew the question was directed to her so she answered calmly. "I saw Odysseus wander out here. He was at your shrine before he came to his canoe, I was watching from atop the tower of his kingdom." "Is it true that he's married now?" "Yes." The Warrior of Tatic and Strategy responded quietly, her cape fluttering a little in happiness over the fact, much to Poseidon's further salty wound on the matter.
"Okay." He answered softly just as they finally came to the shore, and that was when he finally let go of the boat as Athena got up and reached over, grabbing Odysseus up from in her arms gently even if she did look a little uncomfortable doing it which is expected when she wasn't the one who never did this in her life, especially now, just as she was about to turn around to walk up to walk to the castle, the God of Tides couldn't stop himself even though he wanted to, he couldn't do it anymore, even though this request was stupid, he couldn't do it anymore. "Wait, can you bring down what he offered me..?" He asked softly when he got Athena's attention, who blinked in confusion before she answered him. "Okay." With that, she turned around and walked away from him, leaving him with his thoughts as he wondered. πWhy the hell is she so invested in living around like a mortal? She could've just flown here.π Then again, he knew she was fascinated by the transports and ways humans got around on land that her curiosity practically made her forget how far apart she was from them, even if she stated what she was many times, she never truly tired acting like it when it came to something even more interesting to do that mortals can, so he honestly couldn't blame her.
But now, he has left alone with his thoughts once more, and he could not help but feel this was the ending of something that gave him a reason to relax and warm up a bit until now, when everything went to shit because of a stupid coronation and fucking wedding, now everything was that made him calm and question mortals out of amusement gone in a single day and he was even unsure if it would be the actual end or a new beginning, but to him, he felt something snap within himself as he let this weird emotion sink in until he made a drastic mistake that would haunt him afterward but at this time it was the right thing he could think of doing. He severed his connection with the Warrior of the Mind. He knew that if this was the end, he wouldn't contact him anyway, so he could be at some peace, knowing that this goodbye signaled a necessary end for both of them, so he knew this was okay. πThis is better for us, better for you, goodbye, little Odysseus, may you and your wife live long and bear a child as strong and smart as you, you cunning little soldier...π
