Whyyyyy???? Why did they do this? I loved the before! Thank goodness they didn't remove the gorillas, at least. Here are the before and after photos of this 1998 roundish house in Wimberley, TX. 3bd, 2ba, 1,809 sq ft, $599k + $57mo. HOA, (reduced from $649k), and it now has a pending sale.

Before, it had red stairs, a yellow door & railings, and blue trim. They made everything gray and someone bought it. Take a look at the interior before and after.

Then.

Now. The cement floor is gray and the red accents are gone, except for the beams, fans, and wood stove.

The kitchen was the most colorful.

Everything is now white and it looks like they even put in new counters, changing them from blue to black.

At this rate, I'm surprised that people even bought it w/the red beams still on the ceiling. Look, they even swapped out the blue light for a gray one.

Even the slightest bit of trim colors are gone.

The primary bedroom and closet/dressing room were also whitewashed.

I don't remember if they changed anything in the bathroom, but the cabinet pulls still match the burgundy backsplash.

Large deck and gazebo in the back.

There's also a big tile outdoor shower.

it is permissible to make a 2nd residence on the land or use it for horses, etc.

5.17 acre lot.

The homes are so spread out, yet there's an HOA.

Hello Mr. Copperbadge. I live in Texas and have just moved from Houston to a town between Austin and San Antonio, which means I've driven through a very small town named Prairie Lea and every time I see the sign I think of Six Harvests in Lea, Texas. Coincidence or intentional? Either way, it's been a bright spot on the rather boring drives back and forth so thanks for putting that particular story out into the world.

Well, it's not a coincidence, but it's intentional in a different way than it seems!

Lea in the novel is actually based, geographically, on the town of Telephone, TX (now mostly a bar and a hotel). I named it Lea primarily because a lot of towns in Texas, around the time Lea was settled, were named for various local historical figures (Houston, Austin, etc). Lea was a name I turned up in googling for what names I could use; it's the maiden/middle name of Sam Houston's wife, Margaret Lea Houston. She was a Baptist and converted him to Baptist, which fits in with the Baptist origins of the town. But also Lea fit in nicely because when you are in the "lee" of something, you are protected -- the "lee side" of a ship is the side sheltered from the wind, and Lea in the book is very much a shelter for its citizens. (It's also a very quiet tribute to my stepfather, who has Lee as a family name.)

I did a quick google on Prairie Lea and sure enough, it's also named for Margaret Lea Houston -- was named for her by her husband, in fact.

So yes! Intentional in the sense that I took what I knew of Texan naming conventions of the era and applied it, but coincidence in the sense that both are named for the same woman, not one named for the other.

(Also if you're living between San Antonio and Austin, you're in my parents' neck of the woods; they live up near Belterra, north of Wimberley. Welcome! It's beautiful, weird country.)

I remember this house. It's one of my favorites, still on the market. Do you like primary colors? This is so my house- firstly check out the cement gorillas on the red front stairs w/yellow railings. 1968 home in Wimberly, TX has 3bd, 2ba, and was reduced $1K to 649K + 53mo. HOA fee.

As soon as you walk thru the door, into the foyer, you see the primary colors.

Ahead follow the red floor into the living room. And, you can see how prominent the red ceiling beams are.

It's like a carousel or a circus tent.

Round to the kitchen we go. It looks like a pre-school classroom, doesn't it?

It's a big kitchen, though.

This must be the primary bedroom and I'm sure that the rest of bedrooms look like this.

It also has a very large deck.

I can't tell if that's a car port, b/c I don't see that this is a driveway, but it looks like tire tracks on it. Unless they drive over the dirt.
